You want to know something funny? I had you pegged as BEING Pat Gray, when I saw your posts before. Am I right and are you fishing for compliments?
I always like listening to him, except when he gets on his anti-smoking wagon. “Public Safety” to justify the taking of private property is the same insidious slope that the democrats slide down with their “for the children” mantra.
Since this is open thread, I ask again: has anybody else run into problems with IE version 7? I’m using Firefox now, because posting with IE7 is so infuriating - I type a letter and it doesn’t appear! Firefox tends to throw me out of the post, especially if I doublespace after a period, but at least I can type (for the most part) at a comfortable speed. Also, making payroll payments on EFTPS is impossible - my password is not being read. My CPA says a lot of her customers are having these problems. Has anyone else had these problems, and do you know how to get around them?
I had the pleasure of meeting fasternu a couple of days ago. Typical LST’er- cordial, friendly, well-educated, hard-working, law-abiding, generous, politically astute, family man, etc., etc.

He let me touch his Plymouth GTX 440! I got the “all-overs!” Maybe one day I’ll get a ride! (Hint. Hint.)
Any of you out there or any of your contacts/associates that need t-shirts with graphixs, he’s the man! He does awesome work with a good turn around time at a fair price!
#10 tedtam, OK I’ll bite,…You’ve mentioned this at least three times, what is IE version 7? and no I’ve not had any trouble other than typing to fast; it sometimes makes ym letters transposed.
DJ: saw your post last night, and I’ll be at the pig races tonight. Carpooling with the kid, to help cut down of traffic, so KIA can’t complain about the traffic, since that is one of the issues being brought up against the Mosque. Sheesh! Rambling sentence! Great day to all! See ya at the races! 6-8pm!
My brother had a GTX 440 from the age of 16 to the age of about 45.
He sold it recently because he was offered something in the neighborhood $50K for it. That’s a pretty nice neighborhood to drive through, I’m thinking.
It was a 1968, convertible, serial numbers matched, and was in the kind of shape that only someone who truly loves a car can keep it in.
Me? If it goes the direction I want, when I want, that’s good enough. I’ve never been one for going ga-ga over a car. To me, they’re just tools, not toys. Probably why I drive a Jeep.
I’m not against smoking because of health reasons. I don’t think second hand smoke is very dangerous.
However, have you ever tried to eat a meal in a restaurant when someone is blowing foul, noxious smoke all over the place? Hey, how about the next time I see you eating, I’ll light some newspaper on fire, then blow the smoking embers all over your table, right in your face? How about that?
Bars are different, because when you go into a bar, you expect a different experience.
Of course, most of us are too polite to tell you what we think when you are with us, so we quietly accept it and prepare to spend an extra $20 the next day at the dry cleaners because of you.
But, hey, it’s your right, right? So what if I have to shell out an extra $20 a week at the dry cleaners? As long as you can have your precious cigarettes to enjoy… Wouldn’t want to interfere with your right to light up and blow nauseating smoke fumes all around the place…
Yes we are going to have the race from 6:00 - 8:00 PM but please note we are
going to have to charge adults $5.00, children under 12 will be free & teens
3.00 to try & cover part of our expenses. Thanks Craig Baker
Anti-smoking laws are takings. If I own property, I should be able to do whatever I like with it. Cigarettes are legal, and aren’t going to kill someone like the rat poison that PG likes to point out all the time. Sure, maybe in the long run, the smoker will die from a smoking-related cause, but he’s probably there eating something that can eventually cause heart disease, as well, which can also kill him.
So, it’s my property. If I want to sell food and let people smoke, it should be my choice. Since I cannot, the government has taken part of the usage of my property from me without compensation. That’s supposed to be illegal.
By the same token, if you don’t like it that much, open your OWN restaurant, on YOUR property, and don’t allow smoking. That’s YOUR choice, as well.
How would you like it if the government passed a law saying you HAD TO allow smoking in your house? If they can ban it, they can likewise make it required.
tedtam, I have IE7 on my laptop but have not infected my desktop yet, so I’ve had litter experience with it. I primarily use Firefox 2.0.0.1 and have experienced no problems on here with it. Opera has update problems, even with 9.10. I have heard there is a bug in IE7 that causes excessive CPU usage caused by the phishing filter. There is supposed to be an update released next week. Since you are having other problems with Firefox as well I suspect there is something wrong with your PC.

Did you all hear about the Quicktime security flaw? It’s for real. I just checked it out. Be careful viewing QT streaming videos. I don’t think there are any exploits out there yet, but to be safe, I’d shy away from untrusted video sources for a while.

I think I have a way to help any of those folks that just dont understand yet what is happening in this country. Here it goes.
We all know that liberalism is dangerous and destructive. We also know we have been over run by RINOs. A fancy acronym for liberal. Is it possible that the RINOs are the trojan horse to usher in the NWO? If the NWO is too much for ya’ll to digest then is it possible that RINOs are the trojan horse to bring us more ultra liberalism that is resulting in the NWO?
Keep in mind that we have had a majority for quite some time with no real results.
I know things dont happen over night but there are many things that can happen quickly as we saw after 911.
This theory also applies to the state and local level government also.
Whatever you think about my theory please dont just call me nuts. Something is happening we just can put our finger on it.
The repeated story of what illegals are getting away with both on our borders and within our borders is what made me say this today. All across this country we have republicans screwing us. This is my theory.
The list of issues is huge. Everything from red light cameras (liberal idea), socialized medicine, welfare and food stamps, no child left behind/TAKS testing, to open borders (liberal idea). The list of issues is almost never ending and got bigger via the trojan horse aka RINOs.
Thank You.

I will see you tonight. Beware, I look like a wolfman now. I hope to see many others there. This man is fighting what appears to be another trojan horse. Islam is as the muslims have openly said, not compatible with Christianity.
However, have you ever tried to eat a meal in a restaurant when someone is blowing foul, noxious smoke all over the place? Hey, how about the next time I see you eating, I’ll light some newspaper on fire, then blow the smoking embers all over your table, right in your face? How about that?
Well, at least your honest about it. I’ve long been suspicious that the real force behind smoking bans isn’t any stronger than “eww, nasty smoke!”
So it’s really a matter of taste, and now we’ve decided to let City Council decide matters of taste.
IE7 is the new Internet Explorer version 7, just downloaded last week. They are adding features similar to the Firefox web browser (tabs, add-ons).
#21
Sorry to hear that. Typing slowly for me is like scratching fingernails on a chalkboard while giving myself a papercut on my tongue while listening to a liberal call in on the radio.
Which sounds very much like nails on the chalkboard.
#30 Glynne
Thanks for the input. I’ll be sure to download the update when it comes. As far as the problems I’m having, they only occur when I’m posting in this forum. All other features seem to work fine. I’ll check for updates on Firefox to see if problems are resolved. Maybe LST doesn’t like Aggies? Doesn’t like me?
/sulking in corner, sucking thumb
I’m confused about the pig races. Last week they said donations would be welcome, then I heard they gave the money to the Childrens Hospital (I may be wrong on the charity). Now they need money to cover their expenses. If that is the case, why did they give the donations to a charity?
I agree with Matt on your stand with the smell of smoke. Now, lets have city council ban, homeless people, with no showers stink, people that eat garlic, that smell to high heaven, women wearing perfume that smell like French wh!#$%res, men that bath in cologne and any other smell that is offensive. Thunderhawkk where does it stop?
#37 Neo and ST: I heard a radio interview the other day with Mr. Baker. He does have some costs involved and he stated that he just wanted to recoup those costs. Anything over that would be given to charity. It sounded plausable and sincere to me.

Can I be a teen? LOL. Maybe I can be a senior is he giving senior discounts? What age is it when you become and adult to be charged $5.00. Is that mental age or physical age. LOL. The men could probably get in on the teen rate then. LOL. I know some men are really older then a teen (hee hee tongue in cheek).
And cell phones. Nobody should be allowed to use cell phones around other people. And stuck-up people. I think the hoity-toity should not be allowed to hang around with real people. They offend me. And sunglasses. People with sunglasses can’t be trusted if you can’t see their eyes. They could be dangerous. So we must eliminate all smokers, people who use cell phones, arrogant snobs, and people who can’t handle the Texas sun. And cars. If you drive a car, your call emits an odor, which near a restaurant affects my dining experience, dammit. So no smokers, dirty people, people with cell phones, arrogant snobs, perfumes and colognes, fat people, sunglass wearers, and people who drive.
I really can’t stand to eat around people that think they somehow have a right to tell a business how the business owner how he MUST conduct business in his own establishment. If a person thinks he has a better idea, he can suggest or even open his own business, but the make a law telling me how to run mine…?
ROFL I think you have covered most people. Lets just ban everyone so the restaurant can close so unemployment will go up and then the Dems can take care of us and our children.
The day I depend upon a Democrat to take care of me is the day…well, it won’t happen. Let’s leave it at that.
I’ve recommended this short story (about 40 pages) to those who want to see what liberalism can lead to. I like SciFi. The name of the story is “With Folded Hands”. I believe the author is Jack Williams? I found the story in a scifi anthology of short stories. Scary, how being “helped” isn’t such a “help”.
#10 - IMHO IE7 is still a BETA and they just aint confessing that it is - loaded it on my new Dell for 2 seconds and it locked up like an anvil - immediately rebooted and removed it - they can shove IE7 where the sun dont shine till they debugg it
DJ / MsNeo / ST! We hope to be over at the races this evenin - yall should hear Gracie a coming so watch for us and say howdee!
We need to include all children in the ban. They are messy, noisy and, in these times, mostly out of control.
Yeah, and while we’re at it, how about people who cough? That aggravates me too. Watching them spread their germs throughout the facility without a shred of concern for my well-being is just more than I can bear.
And sneezers. What’s up with them? Miniscule particles of mucous just being dispersed willy-nilly through the restaurant like everyone wants to share their diseases. There should be laws against such a public health abomination.
Arrest the whole stinkin’ lot of ‘em, I say. Well, except for me of course.
The NA union has nothing to do with the ideology that is demonstrated in the story. If you read the synopsis, it all has to do with the government’s need to “protect” us from anything harmful. That we are unable to care for ourselves, that being injured physically or emotionally is the job of nanny government. Maybe I should more accurately say “libs” instead of “Dems,” although they are often interchangeable. Think about kids not keeping score in soccer; smokers being banned for our benefit; transfats being banned to protect us; the removal of corporal punishment; and the list goes on. But your attempt to either (1) change the subject or (2) make me look wrong failed. Stick to the subject, please.
There will be no more television, movies, DVD’s or video games for our children because they cannot differentiate or have not been told by their parents or gardian (or have enough common sense to know)the difference between real life and fiction: http://www.breitbart.com/news/2007/01/05/D8MF6V680.html
Funny thing though, when growing up, there were countless boys and girls who saw lots of cowboy and indian movies and never once came home and tried to shoot their friends with a bow and arrow or Red Ryder BB gun or saw a bad man get hanged in a movie, came home and tried to do the same thing to themselves.
Any theories as to why do you think that this is happening now?
They got by with the ’smoking’ and the recipes are next! Transfat or whatever the liberal census is at the moment. They are going to force restaurants out of biz.
#44 Tedtam, you are so right ban them all! You forgot those annoying smelly candles which actually emit more harmful fumes than a cigg. or a car!
I understand non-smokers can be offended, but they can go to a place that doesn’t allow smoking, instead of forcing biz owners to follow a faulty science law.
Wino, I think it was a t-shirt. I wanted a Harly-Davidson t-shirt for him, but I think you got him a different one. Look forward to seeing you again. Let me know how much the shirt cost and I will repay you. Thanks!
My theory, is a combination of alot of things. Here are just a few:
1. The 60’s generation raising their kids to be best friends with them.
2. Turning the kids into latchkey kids because of the higher taxes. Mom had to leave the home to work.
3. Those 60’s parents turning into the “ME ME” generation and letting everyone and everything else raise their kids.
That is just a few and I am sure there are many more.
Wow,this is going to be cool tonight to see everyone at the pig races. Should I bring my oreo’s so we can eat them while the pigs chase the cookies. LOL.
I was a kid in the 60’s. Played cowboy and indians and also army. Lots of toy guns. Even had the AC Gilbert Chemistry Set which was the most dangerous of anything I had, but I digress. I had a Mom who worked and I haven’t killed anyone. I think the big problem is video games that are so real the killing becomes very easy. If they can do it in a video game, it becomes no problem in real life.
I wasn’t saying that all the kids turned out that way, I grew up in the 60’s and my mom worked also, but I do blame alot of parents for being selfish and putting their kids at risk. I think the video games has made our children lazy and fat. I guess what I am saying is, it started at home with the parents and thank God for some of our parents for doing the right thing in how to raise us.
When my kids were young, I made it plain that since I was responsible for their behavior and their future, *I* got to pick their music, their TV shows, their movies, their clothing, and even their friends if need be. Fortunately, they didn’t need much minding, but I did on occasion have to say “no”. My daughter (who was an adult at birth) helped monitor her little brother.
BTW, I don’t think a lot of parents teach their children their true worth. Not just boosting their self-esteem, but who they really are. I remember tucking my daughter into bed when she was about four or five years old and saying “I’m sure glad God loaned you to me to raise!” She asked me what I meant, and I told her “You don’t belong to me, you belong to God. He’s just letting me raise you, and it’s my job to teach you everything you need to know to grow up.” She looked at me with those big eyes and said “You mean I’m GOD’S child?” I say yes, and she teared up a little and hugged me. She has turned out to be the second-most godly teenager I know, and I’ve worked with the youth through my church. (The most godly was her confirmation sponsor!) Now, how many children see themselves not in terms of their ego, but in terms of their spirit? I don’t know where those words came from, but I believe that they made a major impact on my child, and through her, through everyone she’s met. Amen!
I also look at another person I know who was raised as a latchkey kid since he was 8 yrs old and had his video games to entertain him. He is one of the laziest person I know. He is a 21 yr old who has had one job in his life, and that lasted 6mos and got fired. Flunked out of college after his first yr and was out for almost 1 1/2yrs after that. It amazes me that my sister has raised such a unproductive person. We both were raised by the same parents what made her a parent like that. My two kids being raised by a single parent, and my sister with two kids being raised by both parents. What made the difference?
#89 Emme
My husband is THE most productive person I know. He works hard and accomplishes much. His brother is the exact opposite. Content to live on next to nothing, but first in line for freebies, he drives me freakin’ nuts! He’s already making noise about trying to break his mother’s will to get her property (which she doesn’t want him to have, because he won’t take care of it), and she is nowhere near death. It’s the family consensus that brother takes after some aunt of theirs who, after she died, was found to have six months of unpaid bills in her desk. Along with six months of undeposited paychecks. (Don’t know much about her, but I guess money wasn’t a problem.) My husband is much more like his mother. I firmly believe that some personality traits are inherited, otherwise these two would be much more alike.
How was this allowed to happen. We must have better border protection.
National Guard unit stormed while patroling the border Border attack raises security concerns
A U.S. Border Patrol entry Identification Team site was overrun Wednesday night along Arizona’s border with Mexico.
According to the Border Patrol, an unknown number of gunmen attacked the site in the state’s West Desert Region around 11 p.m. The site is manned by National Guardsmen. Those guardsmen were forced to retreat.
The Border Patrol will not say whether shots were fired. However, no Guardsmen were injured in the incident.
The Border Patrol says the incident occurred somewhere along the 120 mile section of the border between Nogales and Lukeville. The area is known as a drug corridor. Last year, 124-thousand pounds of illegal drugs were confiscated in this area.
The Border patrol says the attackers quickly retreated back into Mexico.

#72 I need to make it perfectly clear that I agree that ALL of the nonsense about second-hand smoking, transfat, etc. for “health reasons” is all a bunch of WHINY COMMUNISTS who do in fact want to control your (our) lives.
However, I just got back from lunch at a restaurant in Tomball with my 93-year old Grandfather. Okay, so someone lites up over in the “smoking” section. (Now, the entire restaurant becomes a “smoking” section… think about it…)
So, the people on LST believe we have to GET UP, and LEAVE the restaurant, because for SOME REASON, you believe that you HAVE THE RIGHT to fill the air in the building with disgusting smoke. I wish someone would explain this to me.
We sit there, eating, we don’t bother you. YOU sit there, blowing vast amounts of SMOKE into the air, and that’s the same thing??? Our rights to do our own thing equal out??
96
There are many smoke free restaurants. I quit smoking and now can’t stand to be around it. But I choose where I go to minimize my exposure to it. I don’t complain when I knowingly go where people smoke, it was my CHOICE to go where it is allowed. It is legal and the owner of the business has every right to allow or prohibit smoking in his restaurant. It should not be a law because some busy body wants to control a behavior.
I don’t go to gay bars and I am not exposed to that either… anymore. (joke…. really, I’m joking)
Denise McNamara, Texas Republican National Committee Woman has been a real tear lately. (A real good tear)
______________________________________________
The Question is: Are You Conservative Enough?
By Denise McNamara, Republican National Committee
The politics of labeling is alive and well. The broad classifications of conservative, moderate, and liberal are no longer adequate. If you’re a Republican, chances are you proudly claim to be a conservative. In fact, if you are not a conservative, you probably won’t be able to run for dog catcher. To be called liberal, or even moderate, is the death knell to Republicans. Even Democrats run from the liberal moniker. Hence, there are now varying degrees of conservatism. You may choose from neoconservative, social conservative, Christian conservative, fiscal conservative, right-wing conservative, Reagan conservative, compassionate conservative. My personal favorite, however, is the new brand of Republican: Kool-aid conservative.
This label is pretty self-explanatory. If you blindly follow directions and support non-conservative policy, you fall into this category. This label applies to a Republican who goes along to get along, regardless of principle. Some of our long-time Republicans think that if they say they are conservative loudly enough and often enough, that it will be true. The problem is that actions speak louder than words, and in order to maintain power, many so-called conservatives are selling out. These “Kool-aid conservatives” are voting for more taxes, more spending, and more government. Now call me a crazy conservative, but I thought that taxing and spending was the Democrat/liberal way of governing.
Blindly following orders regardless of principle is the hallmark of a Kool-aid conservative. Sure, our Republican leaders can lead us to the trough of taxing and spending, but they shouldn’t be able to make us drink. As our new legislative session promises to start off with a battle for control of the House, please consider which type of conservative you are. Then, call your elected officials and urge them not to drink the Kool-aid.
#96- I am sorry for your experience today at a restaurant that apparrently hasn’t spent the zillion $$ for the air equipment, like most have in Houston. However you said I want to blow smoke while you’re eating, I wasn’t there :))
The point that SHOULD be made is the restaurants can determine who they prefer to cater to - the smokers or non-smokers. I don’t usually sit in smoking sections because I don’t like the smoke either. !! The convenience of the customer of either party has rights correctly, the problem is they AREN”T the OWNERS & neither is GOV”T Yet! Customers will rightly dictate business, but business should not be DIctated to by customers.
“”Young women in Sweden, Germany and Australia have a new cause: They want men to sit down while urinating. This demand comes partly from concerns about hygiene — avoiding the splash factor — but, as Jasper Gerard reports in the English magazine The Spectator, “more crucially because a man standing up to urinate is deemed to be triumphing in his masculinity, and by extension, degrading women.” “”
As long as smoking is legal, too freakin’ bad! Don’t go out! Go to a non-smoking facility! See statements above about everybody else’s pet peeves! Sheesh!
Finally made it to the pig races after being stuck in traffic forever! Nice turn out! It was a lot of fun! Sorry Katfish and Barb that I missed ya!
As one who just started a new job a few months ago, I can see that it might be a bit difficult for Pat Gray to acclimatize himself with Edd ( who is not a radio guy per se, but a wonderful ‘VOICESTER’ and to my mind , the text book example of a Texan.) and Sean , in two cities and to a somewhat different audience. He ’s a great talent and should be kept and encouraged. ( We all have our quirks, don’t forget our fearless leader, Senator Dan, is not much of a 2nd amendment guy. But we appreciate the rest of his hard work.) My reason for logging on today is….. The Editorial page of the local ‘Rag’, reminded me this morning of the newspeak/double speak of the first Clinton budget. I didn’t get it all, ( I didn’t have time with a borrowed paper.) however the point that STUCK out to me, was their HORROR at the prospect of “funding the tax cut”. Maybe we should license the press by requiring that they read the founding documents of this Nation. If, in their minds, the money already ‘belongs’ to the State, then we have come 180 degree out of phase from the notion of being…. ‘endowed by our Creator with unalienable rights’. In addition to the notion of the Constitution being the License given to government from the aformentioned free people. You add to all that, the ‘cluster bomb’ positions of the Democrat leadership Coronation speeches and you wonder if the puppet masters at the DMC, actually came from a recently emptied Psyche Ward. It’s now time to be Civil. I suppose that means we don’t criticize them or heaven forbid, make fun of them. I do think I have a solution for the Federal and State buget problems. Stay with me now. We are all familiar with the famous,…”It was generally a good bill, however there were a few things I didn’t like. On balance I voted for it anyway etc.” Let’s (magically) get the law changed. Pay for more staff for these guys. Give them a hefty raise; and Make them vote on each and every item individually. NO MORE EXCUSES!!! You either vote for and expenditure or against it. It could make Pork become, Stick Insect? If we really did this, then we really might be able to afford to help a FEW really deserving folks and save the homes of the poor middle and upper classes.

#18 ST Did you see my post #86, (open comments) last night about the pig race?
Just got this from Mr. Baker:
Yes we are going to have the race from 6:00 - 8:00 PM but please note we are
going to have to charge adults $5.00, children under 12 will be free & teens
3.00 to try & cover part of our expenses. Thanks Craig Baker

My wife loves it when Begala is in for Dan. Because I don’t walk around the house with my headphones on. I just turn him off.

Happy 12th Day of Christmas, y’all.
Another busy day for me.

#25 jphilb, I wonder Dan puts Begala on anyway, I always change the channel when he’s on. He’s awful!
DaveD, yes I did! You can read the support from all over the world on this site:

Click email letters on left side and you can see how much support Mr. Baker is getting. Really cool! Unlike what the reporters portray him!

Good morning all.
Thank You.
Southerntragedy
I will see you tonight. Beware, I look like a wolfman now. I hope to see many others there. This man is fighting what appears to be another trojan horse. Islam is as the muslims have openly said, not compatible with Christianity.

ST and DJ my granddaughter and I will be there. Neo said she would be there around 6:00. I am not sure what time I will be there.
Southerntragedy,
I’m confused about the pig races.

There, have I covered it all?

ROFL I think you have covered most people. Lets just ban everyone so the restaurant can close so unemployment will go up and then the Dems can take care of us and our children.
We need to include all children in the ban. They are messy, noisy and, in these times, mostly out of control.
In restaurants, churches and anywhere people gather.
And while you’re at it, no loud music in restaurant, too.
Offends me to no end.

I agree with you, the day I let a Dem take care of me, is the day I run for the hills with my guns,so I can wait for the second coming.
I found a review of the story by Jack WilliamSON, not Jack Williams.

If you can’t read the story, at least read the review. It’ll give you an idea of the world the Dems would give us if we let them.

I just got this email and wanted to pass it on to let everyone needs a heads up on this. It has been around for a while.

There will be no more television, movies, DVD’s or video games for our children because they cannot differentiate or have not been told by their parents or gardian (or have enough common sense to know)the difference between real life and fiction:

Well, I’m off for the rest of the day! TTFN!
Pork rinds on the list to pick up and take to the pig races. Done.
Got my Red on,Begala Rocks!!!!!!
I was the original latchkey kid. Have yet to hang myself.
I’m sorry, I can’t get this out of my head…
In Blazing Saddles, when the sheriff is originally released from jail, he goes back to the rail road work crew:
“We heard you was hung,” says his bald friend.
“And you heard right.”
bigmck, Shannon
I wasn’t saying that all the kids turned out that way, I grew up in the 60’s and my mom worked also, but I do blame alot of parents for being selfish and putting their kids at risk. I think the video games has made our children lazy and fat. I guess what I am saying is, it started at home with the parents and thank God for some of our parents for doing the right thing in how to raise us.
#87 Emme
#85 shannon:
Me too! I understand that you have met fasternu? I got to say hello earlier in the week. Nice feller!

Table A - No smoke.
Table B - Smoke.
I don’t know about you, but I see a difference.

If you think the Gov aint trying to rule you, check this out.Wait till they start telling you how to pee!
