The suspect remained inside for 30 minutes to an hour while police tried to talk him out of the house. A SWAT team was called in, but before it arrived three officers entered the home and the suspect charged them with the hammer, Ortiz said.
One officer discharged a shotgun with bean-bag pellets, but it did not stop the man.
“Apparently the man had three layers of clothing on,” Ortiz said.
A second officer fired a Taser, but it failed.
“The suspect again charged at officers with hammer still in hand,” Ortiz said. “At that point, the third officer discharged his duty weapon, striking suspect.”
Laurence had the best headline: “Hammer? Don’t Hurtt him!” He’s got video, too.

The story doesn’t state the type or weight of the hammer. If it was a small ball/peen hammer, these officers will be destroyed by the media. For their sake, I hope it was a large sledge hammer, or Q X will be after them!!

Anyone that is still coming at me after being hit with a shotgun bean bag blast and being tasered is going to be shot.
Did the police exhaust all their options before discharging their firearms?? Here is my “Top Ten” list of options that the police should have used before discharging their firearms:
1) Plead to the suspect’s sense of “right and wrong”.
2) Ask the suspect if “can’t we all just get along”?
3) Ask the suspect, “WWJD”??
4) Tell the suspect about all the paperwork that will be generated by his arrest.
5) Have the guys in the “white” coats take a shot at him.
6) Have a guy who knows karate or judo ready.
7) Have net or lasso ready to apprehend the suspect.
9) Tell him the paperwork that will be generated if they fire the shotgun with bean bag pellets and how much it smart when he is hit.
10) Tell him they will have Queen Sheila and Quanell Ten all over them if they have to discharge their Taser.
I know there have to be more options, so feel free to add to my list. We all know the police are not trigger happy!!!!!

Seeing the new article in the paper with its hyperbole and conjencture seems to paint a terrible picture of injustice.
If this guy was such a pussycat, then why did the family call the police to have him subdued? This is why we need to bring back the insane asylums and commit lunatics before they hurt themselves or others. The officer was well within his rights to use deadly force. The law doesn’t make an exception if the attacker is insane or not.
