Let me guess: giving officers on that beat a per diem for lunch so they’ll be bigger?

    Oooooooh! Cameras!

Before you depend on the government, depend on yourself……. Concealed Carry.

With all these stories on LST about crime, I hope they are not implying that Chief Hurtt and the police department are not doing their jobs. Maybe they are afraid if they have to discharge any weapons trying to apprehend the suspect that they will be second guessed and tried in the liberal media and have Quanell Ten or Johnny “The Pimp” Mata all over them. Like I said before being a cop is a no-win situation.

Robert, I have not seen the contributers on this site bash the police, only bad policies, poor leadership from Chief Hurtt and Mayor White, and lack of man power the previous two items have created. I personally don’t think Chief Hurtt is doing a very good job. To me he seems more interested in PC propoganda than trying real solutions.

I see a new Police Task Force. complete with an acronym for a name in St. Thomas’ future. I second the concealed carry recommendation. Reach back to get your wallet out and come up firing instead…

With all these stories on LST about crime, I hope they are not implying that Chief Hurtt and the police department are not doing their jobs.

I support HPD, and the rank-and-file cops who are doing their best.

I oppose Chief Hurtt, the mayor and their policies, because they refuses to address the massive surge in crime. Instead of more cops, we get requests for gold badges. Instead of more academy classes, we get Taser-mounted cameras. Instead of more patrols, we get “recruiting” jaunts to the sandy beaches of Puerto Rico.

Rumor has it that Chief Hurt has adopted Texas-border National Guard rules of engagement.

    Sound the retreat, Ollie.

…and my daughter is considering UST for next year…

I watched a movie called “Evelyn” just prior to Christmas, a true story starring Pierce Brosnan as an Irish dad whose wife abandoned her family, leaving Dad to try to raise the children, eventually challenging the constitutionality of the law that took his children from him. Anyway, just after his wife left, Pierce’s father convinced him to accept the state’s help in caring for his children. Finally convinced, Pierce said in his Irish brogue “Okay, send in the nuns.” It sounded like “send in the nuoons”. That has stayed with me ever since I saw the movie. All during vacation, I’d be watching a tv show and when some alien was threatening to invade or whatever, I’d pop out with “send in the nuns”. Drove my daughter absolutely nuts.

I told you all that to tell you this-> UST is a Catholic University. Any Catholic worth his salt will tell you of at least one robed wonder who knew how to scare the heck out of you. So I say: Criminals on campus? SEND IN THE NUNS!

Crime is up everywhere throughout the Houston area, are they really surprised?
Tedtam: I agree send in the Nuns, rulers included!

St Thomas has thier own campus police. 1 officer, seems like they need to hire some more.

Perhaps we should offer a course for a CHL in the freshmen year at all universities.

The story of the violent crimes at the University is missing one key detail.
Were the assailant’s black or white or hispanic?
    What gutless reporting.
