Terror Groups Capitalize on Alienation, Need for Sense of Purpose
An essay posted today on the New Yorker website is worth a read. Azzam the American by Raffi Khatchadourian explains how one Adam Ghadan of rural California drifted from his hippy parents’ farm, to death metal, to Islam, and finally to Al Qaeda propagandist. The post includes an insightful analysis on the path from confused teenager to latter day Joseph Goebbels:
“[forensic psychiatrist Marc] Sageman discovered that most Al Qaeda operatives had been radicalized in the West and were from caring, intact families that had solidly middle- or upper-class economic backgrounds. Their families were religious but generally mainstream. The vast majority of the men did not have criminal records or any history of mental disorders. Moreover, there was little evidence of coördinated recruitment, coercion, or brainwashing. Al Qaeda’s leaders waited for aspiring jihadists to come to them—and then accepted only a small percentage. Joining the jihad, Sageman realized, was like trying to get into a highly selective college: many apply, but only a few are accepted.”
Terrorists seem to play to the yearning and searching for a bigger cause.

What does it take to become a “jihadist”?? Here is my “Top Ten” list of requirements for an aspiring jihadist:
1) Must be willing to become a “sheethead”.
2) Must not be “playing with a full deck”.
3) Must have a “few screws loose”.
4) Must be a “few ‘cents’ short of a dollar”.
5) Must have a “few shingles loose”.
6) Can’t handle the truth if it bite you.
7) Your life must not be “worth a plug nickel”.
9) You must be a follower of false beliefs.
10) You must believe in a false god.
I’m pretty sure there are additional requirements, so feel free to add to my list.

In the old days they used to say ” Burn a witch, go to heaven.” How many pilgrims do you think got burned by the ashes while burning withches. And it didn’t even take a religeous holiday to burn the poor girl.
Not the right kind of Christian in the good old days? Then the Catholics would bomb the Protestents in Ireland.
I fail to see much difference other than one was then and one is now.

Not very many, in 1692 19 people were put to death in Salem Mass. Isolated incidents like that occurred. Everywhere Islam is the majority, there is death in its wake.
More people are killed by Islamists each year than in all 350 years of the Spanish Inquisition combined.
More civilians were killed by Muslim extremists in two hours on September 11th than in the 36 years of sectarian conflict in Northern Ireland.
Islamic terrorists murder more people every day than the Ku Klux Klan has in the last 50 years.
19 Muslim hijackers killed more innocents in two hours on September 11th than the number of American criminals executed in the last 65 years.
You had to go back quite a few years. Open the paper yourself and see how Islam is behaving today. The difference is that “Christians” do stupid and bloody things, but eventually condemn them and stop doing them for the most part. Islam continually is at war with everyone, including itself. Moderate muslims are as rare as hen’s teeth. Show me 5 muslim groups that condemn Osama Bin Laden.
