This post is simply a favor to Edd Hendee, who wants to give some grief to Pastor Chuck Schneider of Sagemont Church, pictured below.

Let’s hope the good pastor does a better job steering the lives of his flock than he does his off-road vehicles.

The Houston Chronicle has written an editorial today addressing the legislative session that has just begun.

No mention whatsoever is made of the need for tax relief or appraisal reform.

Instead, we get these gems:

Texans are hungry for a leadership that puts more emphasis on their health, welfare and education and less on the personal political standing and the priorities of special-interest lobbyists.

Because, as we all know, the health, welfare and education bureaucracies are noble, objective and neutral observers–not “special-interests”–and carry zero weight among elected officials in Austin.

For the first time in years the Legislature has enough extra revenue to reorder priorities and deal with festering problems, such as rising tuition that is making it more difficult for members of the middle class to send their children to state colleges and universities. The dilapidated condition of the state parks system also must be dealt with by returning already dedicated state sales taxes to the purpose for which they were intended.

I have yet to meet a member of the middle class who is having difficulty sending their child to a state college or university who is not ALSO struggling even more paying for sky-rocketing home property taxes.

Maybe the Chron’s plan is for all of us to live with our college-aged kids in their dorm rooms, or in refurbished state parks.

BASTARDS!

The People finally get a Voice in Austin, and The Man goes out and puts Dan Patrick on some stupid “fruit committee.”

“RADIO HOST PATRICK GETS PLUM COMMITTEE POSITIONS”

Courtesy the Houston Chronicle.

Houston’s new state senator, talk show host Dan Patrick, will serve as vice chair of the Senate International Relations and Trade Committee, giving him a key voice in the state’s role on immigration and border issues.

Border security and illegal immigration were central themes in Patrick’s campaign to succeed former Sen. Jon Lindsay, who retired.

Besides that position, Patrick will serve on the Intergovernmental Relations and Health and Human Services committees, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst has announced. He also will serve on the Higher Education and the newly formed Flooding & Evacuations subcommittees.

Most of the six other Harris County senators kept their previous assignments, including Democrat John Whitmire’s chairmanship of the Criminal Justice Committee. Republican Kyle Janek will be the new vice chair on the Education Committee.

There was talk before the legislative session that Patrick, R-Houston, would get sidelined when it came to choice committee assignments because of his on-air criticism of lawmakers from both parties, who he says fall short of his conservative standards.

“The joke was, let’s see what committee assignments the lieutenant governor gives him,” Patrick said. “Some people were expecting me to be on all small committees. They were surprised with the quality committee assignments I received.”

Patrick said he is pleased with his appointments.

Oh. Never mind.

I swear….
