There is no such thing as rap music. It’s an oxymoron. I always try to refer to it as crap music, the ebonics spelling I suppose.

  2. Lawrence C. on January 31st, 2007 at 3:16 pm

The only crap song I ever listened to was the first one I ever heard on the radio - “Rapture” by Blondie. What a hottie in her day.

  3. PBFloyd on January 31st, 2007 at 3:22 pm

Rap does not pass for ‘music’, or even entertainment; it is cultural rot.

Rap is nothing less than vulgar nursery ryhmes for
    the intellectually challenged.

That our civic so called ‘leaders’ would honor this human POS, shows what a bunch of putrid swines we have for elected officials.

And I still want to know: WHEN IS CAROL AVOCADO GOING TO BE THROWN IN JAIL FOR FRAUD???????

I know the answer, and it is why I call them putrid swines!!!

  4. CRK on January 31st, 2007 at 3:26 pm

Actually I always referred to blondie as “skankie”
like many others in bollywood, she abused herself to the point of almost no return. Eventually, she cleaned up her act, but the damage was done.

I wholeheartedly agree that rap is not music. The rhythm is all it has going for it. The lyrics, instrumentals, and vocals are all a joke. It’t just another way that lower socioeconomic segments of the population have endorsed activities that began in prison.

Rap music is part of American society’s slow, inexorable descent into hell. It is getting damn near too late to bring it back…

Benzene - where can I get Mayor McWhifi’s email address?

BTW, what planet is this guy(Mayor White) from? From his looks, this guy has got to be a space alien!

The sad thing is he is a %1000 improvement over the last putris swine we had as a mayor!! But then a 3 toed-sloth would be an improvement over Leepy…..!

  9. Robert on January 31st, 2007 at 3:43 pm

In our politically correct society, this is okay because a minority does it. You cannot criticize otherwise your a racist. And people wonder why our society and our children in particular are all screwed up. Its going to take black on black criticism to get anything done, thanks to the Bill Cosby’s of this world.

  10. tedtam on January 31st, 2007 at 3:46 pm

I actually had a discussion with a black man who had some rapper’s picture on his t-shirt. We were waiting for our tires to be repaired and I asked about his shirt, not recognizing the silhouette. We began discussing the appropriateness of certain types of music around children (because of an event where a black man was playing obscene rap extremely loudly at a gas station when my husband had stopped to buy gas and our four year old daughter was in the car). I said I didn’t appreciate the disrespect shown my daughter, much less the threat to “beat up” my husband when he asked the “gentleman” to turn it down until he left, pointing out our young child. I told the man I was talking to that I picked my children’s clothes, music, TV, movies, and at times even their friends, since I was responsible for their behavior. He looked straight at me and said - I kid you not - “I like rap. I let my kids listen to it and I explain that they just can’t talk like that, they can’t talk like the rapper without getting in trouble.”

So he brainwashes his kids with trash because HE likes it, and devil take his kids as they incorporate those attitudes into their character. That’s lazy parenting, and incredibly selfish.

I wanted to snatch his kids away from him. I told him the only rap music my kids were allowed to listen to was from artists like Righteous B, who do Christian hip-hop, because I didn’t want that crap in my kids’ heads. Then I left before he could respond, since my car was ready.

  12. Neocon on January 31st, 2007 at 4:30 pm

I would like to ask this favor, however–Mr. Prince, could you please encourage your customers to be a bit more polite and turn their music down when stopped at a light?

David, I call that second-hand rap!

  13. southerntragedy on January 31st, 2007 at 5:15 pm

Neo #12: I think it is call second-hand CRAP! :)

But, but, but what about the Sugar Hill Gangs “Rapper Delight”? That was a good-un!

Have you ever went over a friends house to eat
and the food just ain’t no good?
I mean the macaroni’s soggy, the peas are mushed,
and the chicken tastes like wood.
So you try to play it off like you think you can, by sayin that you’re full.
And then your friend says momma he’s just being polite, he aint finished.. uh-uh that’s bull.
So your heart starts pumpin and you think of a lie
and you say that you already ate.
And your friend says man, there’s plenty of food,
so they pile some more on your plate.
While the stinky foods steamin, your mind starts to dreamin of the moment that it’s time to leave.
And then you look at your plate and your chickens still runnin’ into something that looks like cheese. Oh so you say that’s it. I’v got to leave this place. I don’t care what these people think.
I’m just sittin here makin myself nauseous
with this ugly food that stinks.
So you bust out the door while its still closed,
still sick from the food you ate,
and then you run to the store for quick relief
    from a bottle of kaopectate.
Then you call your friend two weeks later
to see how he has been,
and he says I understand about the food,
baby, but bubba we’re still friends….

“Rapper’s Delight” is to gangsta rap what “Leave it to Beaver” is to Paris Hilton’s “The Simple Life.”

Providing a link to the lyrics by clicking on the mayor’s picture is brilliant.

Yes, upon further review, it apears to have been a joint effort.

True story. This is why my kids do not go to Humble H.S….ahem…I was at HHS the last year my twins were at Humble Elementary. I was dropping off my niece who had missed the bus. I heard the morning announcements. The main PRINCIPLE was speaking, saying he was the OG. I asked what that was, and she informed me he was the Original Gangsta. I blew a fuse, but left without incident because I didn’t have bail money that day.

I informed all of my twins teachers that they would not be attending Humble Middle School or HHS until things got back in control. Needless to say, their teachers were very happy to hear that, but couldn’t tell me the jiggy. Fortunatley I pay attention. They are straight A (Sarah being the high A) students. No way was I going to hinder their achievments by attending those schools. /rant over

Yes, Carol Avacado should be in prison! So should this rapper trash. The scum of the earth. Doesn’t fool me for a second.

In my opinion, he is probably responsible for killing some of these kid’s parents.

So, are you going to vote for Mayor White for Senator?

  27. TEX06 on January 31st, 2007 at 7:43 pm

    # 26

Why not? He was an understudy to former President Slick Willie [just kidding!]

  28. sassy_sista on January 31st, 2007 at 8:01 pm

Methinks Mayor White is up to something! But again he is placing his efforts in something that does not amount to a hill of beans.

Try fixing the crappy streets that I drive on everyday to get to work (Bissonnet, Kirby) and maybe you’d have my attention ib something!

  29. bigjolly on January 31st, 2007 at 8:11 pm

    #28 sassy_sista

Excuse me, but why would he bother with repairing streets when he can be busy honoring thugs?

Hey, girl! Good to hear from you again! Don’t be such a stranger. We all miss you and Jeremy is such a poor substitute! hee hee! ;)

Maybe that should be the next poll question??

How do you properly convey the scratcy record noise online?

    1) whoopa whoopa whoopa whoopa
    2) er-er-eeer-er
    3) other

#24 agent: Good info, why am I not surprised?

I guess it would take someone in city gubmint here being caught with a suicase with a dismembered body in it before anyone would think about demanding they be accountable or resign??

We have about as chance of getting credible civic leadership someone playing pick-up sticks with their butt cheeks……!

  33. Jose on February 1st, 2007 at 7:45 am

I am a big fan of the Getto Boys. Seeing the lyrics of “Mind of Lunatic” posted reminded me of other songs like “Do it like a GO”, “Trigga Happy N….z”, and “Read these Nikes”. However, James Prince should not have been honored by the city. Keep in mind this is the same guy that Al Gore protected from federal drug charges in 2000.

This move by the Mayor White shouldn’t surprise anybody. This guy is obviuosly part of the Democrat Machine, and that party honors anybody that “shows them the money”
