And here I thought jail was supposed to be a deterrent to crime. Heck, commit a crime and you get to participate in State funded orgies.

Legalized gay prison rape? Uh, if I’m not mistaken, there are more pressing matters these snapper heads could be working on!

Notorious B.I.G. - Was that a reference to retired DA Johnnie Holmes? If not, I think you meant “homes”(ref: “homie”, “home boy”, etc.). Clearly, the public school system failed you in their ebonics bi-lingual program.

Yo, lar-c, in the trailer park on the southside, the l is clearly pronounced. Might be a case of regional ebonics or southern adaptation.

maybe we are out of prison space again and this way they can sleep two and three in a bed

  11. PBFloyd on February 2nd, 2007 at 4:36 pm

Don’t they have flushing toilets in jail? I mean, I don’t know, have never been there?

I guess I grew up in a time where we managed to figure out all on our own how to dispose of a used condom.

Just how stupid are these people?

Who in the hell lobbied for this bill–and why???
    So freakin ridiculous

Sorry to throw a wet blanket on this string with those silly little annoying facts, but to be clear, the bill authorizes condoms to be distributed in prisons (by nonprofits), not just their disposal. Right now condoms are considered illegal contraband. If the bill only did the part you quoted, you’re right it wouldn’t make sense.

As for the question, “Who in the hell lobbied for this bill–and why??? So freakin ridiculous.” I’d respond: Not riduculous in the least, unless saving my tax dollars is ridiculous - I prefer to keep my money in my wallet, thanks.

HIV rates in prison are many times higher than in the outside world. Last I saw, AIDS was the third leading cause of death in Texas prisons behind heart attacks and cancer. Lifetime treatment costs can run into six figures per person for HIV+ prisoners. HIV drugs cost today 40% of the state prison system’s pharmacy budget. And who pays? You and I, though our taxes.

Like it or not, if you don’t think there’s already sex going on in prison, believe me you’ve got another think coming. You can take a reality-based approach, or a head-in-the-sand moralizer’s view. But bottom line, the state isn’t willing to pay enough guards to enforce prohibitions against in-prison sex. So if prisoners are willing to use protection, it’s ulitimately better for everybody.

You may now go back to your regularly scheduled Snide-Fest already in progress.
