Our beloved hometown rag has quite a few corrections of prominent errors in Friday’s paper:
•The Texas Department of Transportation will spend nearly $1.1 million to hire lobbying firms to advance its interests in Washington under a 13-month agreement that runs through the end of this year. A story on Page A1 Friday misstated the total amount.
•Supporters who each pledged to raise $30,000 for Republican Rudolph Giuliani’s presidential campaign exploratory committee were invited to a Houston dinner with the former New York mayor, with individual donors limited under the law to giving $2,100. A story on Page A1 Friday misstated the amount of contributions from each person invited to the dinner.
•Astros minor-league prospect Max Sapp bats left-handed. It was reported incorrectly on Page C1 of Friday’s editions.
•In a story on Page C9 Friday, the third-place team in District 20-5A was misidentified. Madison is the third-place team and Lamar is fourth.
•A chart on Page D1 Friday on the 2006 net incomes of some large U.S. companies, which accompanied a story on Exxon Mobil’s earnings, incorrectly labeled a column that listed the net incomes.
For those of you keeping score at home, that’s two goofs on the paper’s front page, one on the front of the sports section and one on the front of the business section.
Whoops!

Like they misstated the 1.1 million amount - I’m scared - what was the real amount? please don’t say 11 million
The good thing hopefully now that the super bowl is over is we won’t have to hear yet another story on the color of the two head coaches. Shameless.
But #2, don’t you realize it is such a compelling and pertinent story? I saw history made last night. I saw the first winning black coach in SB history. I saw the first losing black coach in SB history. I saw the first black announcer interview the first losing black coach. Amazing!!!
If that’s all they got wrong I’d say they were in pretty good shape. Unfortunately, I suspect otherwise, particularly in the areas of content and intent.

A World-Class city needs a World-Class newspaper with a World-Class corrections section.
Now that the Super Bowl is over, be sure to order the DVD from nfl.com
It will be a good chance to relive the first Super Bowl with two African-American head coaches. (Not sure if anyone was aware of that or not.)
I’m not sure if either man has ever been to Africa, or would ever want to go to Africa, or has any family in Africa, or gives one damn crapola about Africa, but nevertheless, they are forever known now as African-American coaches.

That just totally disgusts me! They are coaches, despite their skin color! When will this racism end? I saw commenters today who were black who actually commented on this! Who cares what the coaches skin color is? It doesn’t matter to me and most all of us, except those who want to denigrate America by playing the race card.
I know. I knew once those teams won their games to get to the Super Bowl, we’d never hear the end of it for two whole weeks. Thank goodness that’s over. Stupid commentators.
