Yesterday, we brought you The Hill’s story about Rep. Keith Ellison whining to the Capital Police about Rep. Tom Tancredo, who dared to smoke a cigar in his own office.
Today, Ellison is backing off:
A freshman Democratic lawmaker sent a hand-written note Wednesday night to a neighboring Republican congressman to apologize for the situation that erupted after his staff complained to U.S. Capitol Police about cigar smoke.
Rick Jauert, a spokesman for Ellison, said he made the call to complain about the smoke last week. He said he didn’t think the complaint was worth the press it was getting.
Jauert said he wasn’t sure where the smoke was coming from and that the congressman didn’t know that he had made the complaint.
That doesn’t quite jibe with The Hill’s report yesterday:
Ellison’s press secretary, Rick Jauert, made the call to the Superintendent’s office when he noticed the smoke. “I called because the smoke was coming through the walls,” Jauert said, adding that the Superintendent’s office referred him to the Capitol Police.
Jauert said he then informed his boss what he had done. He said “fine,” Jauert said. “He’s complained of the smoke before.”
Come on, man. If you’re going to be an over-indulgent crybaby, at least stick to your story.
