Service with a smile

Letters to the Editor, Galveston Daily News
Not many times is paying your Galveston County taxes an enjoyable experience, but I did have a most unusual and mildly shocking one while paying my taxes at the building in League City.
Going to pay one’s taxes on the last day of January, I expected lines of procrastinators overflowing the building.
Much to my surprise, the minute I got in the line of about 30 people, the tax assessor herself, Cheryl Johnson, appeared, telling everyone paying by check or money order to step up to the barrier that separates the line from the cubicles.
She personally took our check and issued a handwritten receipt. She had a smile on her face and bantered in a friendly manner with everyone she serviced.

I felt she was going out of her way to ensure the office didn’t become overwhelmed.
It’s nice to know even the head of a department can get out and do some work with the public once in a while.
We need more department heads like Cheryl Johnson.

Residents of Harris County, meanwhile, have this to look forward to.
Then again, at least with Paul we get that charming laugh. ![]()

The voters need people like Paul B. and Cheryl J. to run for a higher office. The people who actually crunch the numbers know the facts better than some “rino” (aka Dimwit) will ever know. Since the “rinos” have infested state government, maybe voters should have a choice between conservatives and liberals. I, like many other Republicans, certainly didn’t intend on voting for the “rinos” we got.
I will say this much Paul will never beat Cheryl in a Beauty contest but it would be a close race between them to see who runs an orginzation better.
bweldon, I told Paul it was a case of Beauty and the Beast…..and he wasn’t the beauty! Amazingly enough, Cheryl looks even better for real than she does in that pic. Now that is saying something.
hubba hubba
Perhaps southerntragedy can be enticed to loan Ms. J her cheerleader outfit for a day.
“bantered in a friendly manner with everyone she serviced.”
Too rich a target….. This is a family site. I’ll just shut up and play nice
Although in the case of Ms. J, maybe Benzion should borrow the cheerleader outfit.
WOW - she’s a CUTY too!!!!
It’s not fair that you gave Paul a smaller picture than Cheryl. No, wait, that’s not just fair, it’s . . . merciful!
OOOH please Paul, laugh for us!!
Talk about a MILF.
Cheryl is the usual conservative lady…looks and brains.
Well out here in Friendswood we’re grateful to have Cheryl as our hommie! Not only does she do a great job collecting Galveston County taxes and fees (I had a similar story about her handing out candy at Christmastime at the Tax Office in League City) but she has also been selected to collect City taxes, by our conservative majority (at 1/10th the cost that our local school distrct was charging to do it)!
Paul B’s laugh is not a laugh, but a sort of braying. It seems forced. I think it will keep him from being elected to a higher office. He should tone it down.
#14 - The think about Paul is he is real. Yeah, he’s got a goofy laugh, but he’s genuine.
I don’t for a moment think it is forced.
I agree with Robert - folks like these two should run for higher office.
If I lived in Galveston County, I would think up excuses to visit the Tax Assessors office…
