Chron columnist Rick Casey is apparently a little tired. Ripping off the Washington Post is hard work after all, even with a research assistant. So he’s taking a few months off:

But I am taking a sabbatical. For the next five months, I intend to relax, read and reflect without being within two days of a deadline.

All of us at Lone Star Times would like to wish him well.

We’ve seen attempts at BB-gun control, machete control, even pointy-knife control.

Add one more to the list — Samurai sword control:

The sale of imitation samurai swords could be banned by the end of the year, the Home Office announced today.

Importing or hiring the weapons could also be made illegal following a string of samurai sword attacks in recent years.

Who the hell rents a samurai sword?

Vernon Coaker, the Home Office minister, said today: “Samurai sword crime is low in volume but high in profile and I recognise it can have a devastating impact.

The plans are outlined in a consultation paper, Banning Offensive Weapons, published by the Home Office today.

At present there are 17 weapons, including knuckle-dusters and batons, on the Offensive Weapons Order.

Here’s a PDF of the “Banning Offensive Weapons” paper, courtesy of the Home Office. Money quote:

The most common types of weapons used were knives (used in 7% of all BCS incidents of violence), hitting implements (7%), and glass or bottles (4%).

Got that? Bottles are used almost as much as knives. Next up, bottle control.

$17 million in dope taken off Houston’s streets in less than 72 hours.

First on Friday, nearly $4 million worth from a sophisticated hydroponic “grow-house” in Montrose.

[Note to Drug Lords: Next time, hire goons with enough remaining brain cells to actually live in the house where they are growing all the pot, so neighbors don't become suspicious. Also, think twice about the "penny wise, pound foolish" practice of stealing the electricity needed to run the joint.]

Then on Sunday, almost $13 million worth of pot seized from two abandoned school buses on Houston’s south-east side.

Not an aficionado of the Wacky-Tobaccy cigarettes myself, I can’t be completely certain… but I have got to believe that at this very moment it is nearly impossible for reefer-fiends in the Greater Houston area to get their hands on the Old Mary Jane.

Congratulations Drug Warriors, you’ve got the drug lords scared and on the run! Certain victory is just around the corner.

Smack!

Joseph Knippenberg over at NoLeftTurns notes that during her Selma, Alabama speech over the weekend, Hillary Clinton…

… called climate change “tinkering with God’s creation.”

Wonder whether that applies to abortion and stem cell research too?

Heh.

Once again, we are reminded of the human costs of not controlling our borders:

Federal officials said 67 people were found in a one-story house in the 7000 block of Schley about 12:30 p.m. Thursday after a man flagged down a Houston police officer and pleaded for help.

According to the Harris County Appraisal District, the median square footage of the homes in the 7000 block of Schley is 1,453 sq. ft., approximately 22 sq. ft. per person. Do you think that this is what the immigrants had in mind when they snuck into the land of economic freedom?

The one-story residence was one of many “stash houses” that smugglers use in Houston for holding illegal immigrants until they can be moved elsewhere or released after relatives pay a fee, investigators said.

Last month, it was 46 illegal’s found in the Denver Harbor neighborhood of Houston, a 1,597 sq. ft. home.

“The conditions inside the house were extremely deplorable,” Deason said. “There was no furniture in the home. There were four or five bedrooms in which the aliens were being kept behind locked doors. There was a real bad smell in the house, and there was garbage.

You don’t have to search hard to find many, many examples of these atrocities. It’s time for LULAC and other Hispanic advocacy groups to stop protesting about border control and start being concerned about the people behind the stories.

We need a complete lockdown on our borders along with a guest worker program that will allow the US economy to continue to grow. LULAC needs to spread the word that our borders are closed and workers must go through legal channels to enter the United States. Mexico must control their southern border and help us control our shared border. The exploitation of human beings within the United States must stop now.

From today’s London Telegraph:

The United Nations headquarters in New York is infested with rats, mice, worms and even salt-water eels, according to staff members.

This is news?

Glad to see the Europeans are catching on.

Today, I’m happy to announce the latest cutting-edge frontier in new-media journalism:
