At least there is some eye on our borders in Washington.

“The US, worried about the number of terror plots in Britain involving people with ties to Pakistan, is seeking to curb a visa waiver programme for British citizens to limit access to the US for Britons of Pakistani origin, it was reported yesterday.”

What exactly is the thought process and/or motivation that determines which OC pic to choose? On 2nd thought, never mind, that’s one Pandora’s box best left alone…

  9. duhmoose on May 3rd, 2007 at 7:02 am

Elizabeth, It involves a bottle of Jack, google images, and a key word list pulled from dailykos rantings.

  10. dowjones25k on May 3rd, 2007 at 7:05 am

ok i am confused, i understand perry wanting to do shots or his toll road thing he got greased.

but the problem is who is making money or getting greased for our boarder strategy?

it has been almost 6 years since 9-11-01 and no boarder control yet. what would the govt do if the citizens said “since you wont do your job we the citizens will. we shall take our guns to boarder and shoot all tresspassers unless you can give us a timetable with milestones on you closing the boarder and if you dont you wont get any tax money from us.”

shucks they cant even call out the guard to do it - they forgot their bullets.

these people need to be fired

  11. dowjones25k on May 3rd, 2007 at 7:09 am

hey i know what those politicians are doin instead of closing the boarder. the madam in d.c. has 1,000 clients - they are to busy!!!!

A couple days ago, Squawk informed us that the President keeps his veto pens in the upper right hand drawer of his desk.

Apparently, he didn;t open that drawer to veto the Surrender Bill:

    http://www.myfoxcolorado.com/myfox/pages/News/Detail?contentId=3083648&version=2&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=TSTY&pageId=3.4.1

Bush signed the veto with a pen given to him by Robert Derga, the father of Marine Corps Reserve Cpl. Dustin Derga, who was killed in Iraq on May 8, 2005. The elder Derga spoke with Bush two weeks ago at a meeting the president had with military families at the White House.

Derga asked Bush to promise to use the pen in his veto. On Tuesday, Derga contacted the White House to remind Bush to use the pen, and so he did. The 24-year-old Dustin Derga served with Lima Company, 3rd Battalion 25th Marines from Columbus, Ohio. The five-year Marine reservist and fire team leader was killed by an armor-piercing round in Anbar Province.

I know you shouldn’t judge someone based strictly on appearance; however, I’d bet that IF this guy has a steady job, it’s probably very low wage. So basically he’s not paying taxes and has no 401K; therefore, he’s just another freak that will have all of his ‘retirement’ and medical expenses paid by you, me and our kids.

  23. bigjolly on May 3rd, 2007 at 8:44 am

I decided I just couldn’t look at that guy all day long.

  24. gregg on May 3rd, 2007 at 8:44 am

If this debacle keeps up ol GWB will have plenty of new pens to use. I dont think I would brag about using dead soldiers pens. Maybe someone should send him 3000 pens for the dead soldiers and 50,000 for the maimed. That should keep him busy signing things for a while.

No comment on the Iraqi government wanting to take two months off cause its too hot?

Two things come to mind. One they are just taking their cue from our gov. Two you cant lead a horse to water. Its time to bring the boys/girls home and put them on our border.

I never bought GWs big war on terror schpeel fight em over there so we dont have to fight em here. Anyone that wanted to do harm to us could and would via our open borders. WHEN that day does come the only course of action by our gov will be to take more of our rights away.

Love the picture of the kitten. Thanks

  31. gregg on May 3rd, 2007 at 9:13 am

DJ, GWB says we fight them there so we dont have to fight them here. Says a lot about his open border policy doesnt it?

He has cut and run from stopping people coming here who want to do us harm. Just keep guys like Johnny Sutton putting our BP agents in jail. I would vote to impeach except Cheney is just as inept and godforbid Pelosi gets any more power.

Bottom line is, we are getting screwed without the benefit of lubrication.

Oh so you are going to call me out huh?

BUSH FINALLY pulled out his veto pen. Operative word FINALLY. The first and only time.

Bushco and the Republican party would not be in the mess they are in if BUSH had used that veto pen several times before. Just like you, Bush is a one trick pony.

    Sunny,
Cats (and dogs) have always adopted us as as their people pets and now 4 cats and 4 dogs own us. (At one time there were 6 of each.)
    One of my favorite poems:

“We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own live within a fragile circle easily and often breached. Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way. We cherish memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding the necessary plan.”

  53. twocute64001 on May 3rd, 2007 at 10:21 am

Sleeping Beauty, Tom Thumb, and Quasimodo were all talking one day.

Sleeping Beauty said, “I believe myself to be the most beautiful girl in the world.”
Tom Thumb said, “I must be the smallest person in the world.”

Quasimodo said, “I absolutely have to be the ugliest person in the world.”

So they all decided to go to the Guinness Book of World Records to have their claims verified.

Sleeping Beauty went in first and came out looking deliriously happy.

“It’s official, I AM the most beautiful girl in the world.”

Tom Thumb went next and emerged triumphant, “I am

now officially the smallest person in the world.”

Sometime later, Quasimodo comes out looking utterly confused and

    says.”Who is Rosie O’Donnell ?

Well I was going to post this over at Shakester’s……..but the tide seems to have run to convo de feline over here….

My only time to truly be MEAN to a cat was around 10 years old while living in Tripoli Libya……..one of my chores was management de la garbagggge and we had one stray cat that seemed to have our trash targeted for his daily routine of scattering it all over the driveway as he (or she? dunno) foraged for a snack….
Well this 10 year old was THRU picking up garbage without retribution of some kind. Perchance I caught that lil terrorist head-down in our garbage can - I snuck up quietly and slammed the lid down snug and proceeded to roll that garbage can up and down the driveway several times - can clipped the gate and the top fell off - garbage kitty came out turning circles in his dizziness - now yall can call me cruel if ya like but that cat NEVER messed with our garbage again!

No you didn’t miss it youre just intellectually lazy and again trying to imply I’m dishonest, but in fact I guess , however here’s yet another sailor dead after starting a bar fight and, well losing - at least this time, no Canadians were killed or were they?

Police in Halifax were interviewing five suspects taken into custody after an American sailor was stabbed to death in a bar brawl early Saturday.

About 20 people were involved in the fight at the downtown nightclub Rain, police said.

A police forensic investigator gathers evidence after an American sailor was fatally stabbed during a bar fight in Halifax Saturday.
(Andrew Vaughan/Canadian Press) The scuffle spilled into the street and turned violent around 4 a.m. AT, said Halifax Regional Police spokeswoman Theresa Brien.

When officers arrived, they found a 28-year-old member of the U.S. navy suffering from stab wounds. He was pronounced dead later in hospital.

Now I’m NOT posting the link because I want you, you to actually look beyond the sophistry and exaggerations of the borderphiles and actually in shame look at how we act in other countries

In other words, its not all one sided

  83. EricPJohnson on May 3rd, 2007 at 1:37 pm

Eric, From what you have just posted we know the following:
    1. The was a bar fight in Halifax.
    2. 20 people were involved.
    3. Sailor is stabbed.
    4. Five people are taken into custody.
    5. No mention of misdeeds by the sailor.

  85. twocute64001 on May 3rd, 2007 at 1:40 pm

You not only can’t handle the truth, you can’t tell it either. If you can’t provide the link, since we’ve search for it and there isn’t one, then we must presume, based on the above, that you’ve fabricated yet another lie. AYWWPTYAL.

It surely is a shame when an American sailor gets killed breaking up a fight. Why don’t you read this article about the thug that killed Damon Crooks, the American sailor you reference.

As usual, Evil E has shown again he has absolutly no credibilty

  95. Big45Iron on May 3rd, 2007 at 2:10 pm

Eric is always disparaging our law enforcement and military. And he fabricates stuff about them. Then he doesn’t have the gonads to say he was wrong and apologize. All classic signs of a liberal.

  96. twocute64001 on May 3rd, 2007 at 2:10 pm

Cute cat pic, well have to call him Catapult

  97. Peter on May 3rd, 2007 at 2:10 pm

Since Eric hasn’t responded, I’ll help him out and post what he’d probably say.

Wright’s brother is planning to testify that he was walking past the bar and happened to glance in the window. He observed the sailors talking about killing some Mexicans that day for fun. That is when, with hatred in their eyes, they attacked Wright and his friends, who were holding Bible study at the bar. Further testimony from the brother will reveal that another sailor stabbed his shipmate thinking it was Wright. Once he realized his error, he placed the weapon in Wrights hand. It’s all in the transcript that proves it. If you weren’t such total and complete idiots, you would look it up and read it.

  98. EricPJohnson on May 3rd, 2007 at 2:13 pm

    Big45

Really? Do you have proof? No as usual

Also the Fight last year where 8 canadians were killed was started again by Us Sailors

On the pacific side keep googling

The point is big that crap happens, everywhere, people are people sailors are sailors, young men are young men, trashy women are trashy women, hookers that don’t get paid cry rape - its a life thing,

As far as calling names You have all the classic signs of a ignorant racist bigot, but you’re not right?

  99. EricPJohnson on May 3rd, 2007 at 2:15 pm

And Big45 I know you’re not, you are fair, kinder than you post, you\re frustrated that you have taxes going up and American soldiers being killed etc.

If you want to make it my fault or Bushes go ahead, You’re a good guy, but facts are there

  100. mrygill2 on May 3rd, 2007 at 2:18 pm

Does anybody know what the legal deadline is for the county appraisal district to send out notices of appraised value? Galveston CAD hasn’t sent out any for Friendswood, and I’m getting nervous!

  101. Big45Iron on May 3rd, 2007 at 2:20 pm

Ignorant racist bigot? Eric, I don’t have a clue as to your racial/ethnic background, nor those of any of the parties involved. But my credibility isn’t in question here. And your lack of credibility isn’t in question either. There isn’t any story like you say Eric. If there is, post the link and I’ll apologize right here. I can do it with no problem. From what we see from the Halifax story, you can’t tell the truth. An American sailor attempts a noble deed, and you twist it into a lie for your own purposes. But since you’re a liberal, you don’t have any shame. The only thing we can do is expose you for what you are.

  104. Big45Iron on May 3rd, 2007 at 2:29 pm

ROFLMAO. You know what Eric is talking about? He’s talking about 8 Bandidos killed up in Canada by Canadians.

    http://www.cbc.ca/news/background/bikergangs/ont-massmurder-timeline.html

And it wasn’t a bar room brawl. They were found dead in cars in a field. The murderers were Canadians. Who is the American involved Eric?

Ok bigjolly..what’s with the cats? Not that I mind them, but what are you trying to tell us?

You’re as cute and fluffy as they are?
You’re a cat person as opposed to a dog person?
You are a fan of kitten juggling but don’t know how to break it to us?
You’re bidding your time until you can put the “cat in a teacup” picture up. The cat in a bottle picture?

    What gives big?

That ‘biker war’ story is so old it’s grown very distasteful lQQking FUZZ!

And to whomever speculated above regarding co2 poisoning I can assure it was a wee bit more violent than that.

The ‘Red & Gold’ and the ‘Red & White’ simply do NOT play well together - never have / never WILL!

  114. american woman on May 3rd, 2007 at 2:57 pm

There are purple finches and there are house finches. House finches have less red. Picture will come, batteries are charged just waiting to spot him at the hummingbird feeder. I have 7 feeders in my back yard at this time. One is hummingbird, two are finch and the rest are black-oil sunflower feeders. When the goldfinches migrate through, my back yard is chaos with yellow and black birds. They are so acrobatic and my favorites. They have gone and now its the normal bunch, cardinals, blue jays, sparrows, doves, red bellied woodpeckers , downy woodpeckers ( they get pnut treet suet) house finches, nuthatches, chickadees, and a wren that I think is a carolina wren.

Kenneth Lloyd Billingsley is the Editorial Director for The Pacific Research Institute. He wrote a best-selling book on Hollywood and the real story of American Communism, the film industry, studio management and the U.S. House investigations. Here is a link to an excellent article he wrote in 2000 for Reason magazine offering a historical overview of those subjects in the 1930s and 40s. The McCarthyism Myth lives on and you will understand why if you take the time to read this:

    RE: #118 My Post

It is really interesting to learn who was actually persecuting who in Hollywood in those days. The local Communist Party members were, by their own admission, ruthless, relentless enforcers.

Just got this in an email……..The government today announcded that it is changing its national symbol to a condom because it more accurately depicts the governments political stance. A condom allows for inflation, halts production, destroys the next generation, and gives you a false sense of security while u are actually being screwed. ( had to leave out one thing it was just too over the top lol) It just doesnt get more accurate than that!

    Katfish,
I watched a crew working the Power lines along West Sam tollway a few years ago They actually had a trolley system big enough for 2 or 3 guys, parts and tools. Facinating! I have worked in an insulated bucket lift on 4160 V. and 8300 V. lines. It wasn’t a big deal. Those 156,000 V. lines are another matter. One leakey insulator and you are toast if you don’t test carefully at each step of the job.

    American woman, Neo, Dave,

My Sibleys does not list a Scarlet Finch, but does show the House Finch. Sibley doesn’t show any red on the primary wing feathers though. What you have may be a variation.

I am glad the Gold Finches are gone. They are fun to watch for a couple weeks, but make the worst messes. Poop all over the place, thisle seeds and hulls in a pile, and seeds thrown out of the other feeders to get to the ones they like.

All of our normal birds are back. I got a glimpse of an Indigo Bunting this morning but he never came back while I was looking.

Took the new K-10 camera out on expedition today to do some training for both of us. I saw a Cara Cara on a pole, but it was too skittish to let me get even within Telephoto range. Same with the lone Red Tail Hawk for the day. The camera is awsome, but I think I will go back to manual focus, because I am quicker than the Auto-Focus. The shake reduction really seems to work. I need to blow up a few pics from earlier to check sharpness.

    Too good not to share!
A little boy got on the bus, sat next to a man reading a book, and noticed he had his collar on backwards. The little boy asked why he wore his collar that way.

The man, who was a priest, said, “I am a Father.”
“The little boy replied, “My Daddy doesn’t wear his collar like that. The priest looked up from his book and answered “I am the Father of many.”

“The boy said, “My Dad has 4 boys, 4 girls and two grandchildren and he doesn’t wear his collar that way.” The priest, getting impatient, said, “I am the Father of hundreds,” and went back to reading his book.
The little boy sat quietly thinking for a while, then leaned over and said, “Maybe you should wear your pants backwards instead of your collar.”

#131 marc, where did you see the Cara Cara? I saw mine near Windfern & BW8. It was on the ground being haraased by mocking birds before taking up temporary residence on a telephone pole. First time I had seen one.

  136. american woman on May 3rd, 2007 at 4:21 pm

Marc to avoid mess with goldfinches, just feed black oil sunflower, and have a couple of thistle socks. That thisle is very tiny and they do not toss seed, when u feed only black oil. They love it. Even the sparrows toss seed when I use a mixed bird seed so it’s only black oil sunflower for me. As to the pooping, I have spotted shrubs till it rains lol……but I love those little feisty birds anyway.

  137. marc on May 3rd, 2007 at 4:30 pm

    SC,

Today’s Cara Cara was on Woods road, between old Katy and Brookshire. I saw a pair on Koomey road (FM 1469, I think) on Tuesday. I have gotten a few good shots over the last few years. We saw a bunch in a tree last year on our way home from Rockport-Fulton. There were about 20 to 25 in the group. I got a reallygood shot of one flying about 15 Ft. away last year here within a mile of the house.

I need to get one of those camo suits with grease paint so I can “sneak up”.
