    Now what about tax reform?

  2. twocute64001 on May 4th, 2007 at 11:12 am

This is a good bill. Hopefully the house will also pass it a gov hairspray will have the cahones to sign it.

  3. Argus on May 4th, 2007 at 11:36 am

Darn, the over/under on number of bills that Patrick could get passed was 1 and I went with the under.

  4. SimpleSimon on May 4th, 2007 at 11:49 am

Good, Now I get to pay for the ultra-sounds too. How is this working toward cutting the cost of government?

For once I agree with EPJ. Where is the appraisal cap relief?

To some, not killing babies is kinda important. You can always make more money, but killing a baby is inexcusable.

Unless the baby is armed and attacking you and your life is in danger.

You might try reading this before making that argument.

  9. gadboy on May 4th, 2007 at 12:13 pm

I am absolutely amazed. Talk about drinking the Kool Aid and enjoying it. As a 50 year old homeowner and taxpayer, this rates so far down the list on my scale of priorities that it is amazing. This has nothing to do with education reform, appraisal relief, border security or any other relevant issues. This is just another program I will be required to pay for and it just proves again that Dan is in Austin only to increase his name recognition. This point was really brought home to me agasin just recently. I was fortunate to be able to attend a banquet honoring law enforcement officers from Harris and surrounding counties. I was in the room with a number of very brave and dedicated individuals from HPD, Harris County Sheriffs, Richmond and Rosenberg police officers, among others. Dan was the keynote speaker. He probably spent 10 % of his speech talking about the work these great people do, then he spent the rest of the speech talking about himself and how great a state senator he is. To take attention away from the honorees and try to turn it into a political rally was shameless.

  10. Neocon on May 4th, 2007 at 12:18 pm

    Gadboy,

Sour grapes? You still owe me lunch cuz you lost our bet about Dan getting elected.

  11. bigjolly on May 4th, 2007 at 12:19 pm

gaddy, read my #8 to Simple.

Now, I wasn’t at that speech you talk about but given your propensity to blast Sen. Patrick whenever and wherever you can, I’m pretty much betting that you have mis-characterized it, ahem, shamelessly.

  12. David Benzion on May 4th, 2007 at 12:20 pm

If people want to bitch about Dan’s Lack of Magical Tax Relief have at it, but as the Giant of Joll notes, try reading the press release first.

The ultrasounds are already done. It is already being paid for. This isn’t a requirement that “new” money be spent on ultrasounds. It is a requirement that the abortion provider actually show the pregnant women the ultrasound if she wants to see it, instead of hiding it from her.

  13. I Am Iron Man on May 4th, 2007 at 12:22 pm

“this rates so far down the list on my scale of priorities that it is amazing”

Not to the baby that’s about to be snuffed out…..

“This is just another program I will be required to pay for”
A spending program liberals disagree with… preventing the murder of babies is too costly. Now I’ve heard everything…

“To take attention away from the honorees and try to turn it into a political rally was shameless.”

But Sheila Jackson Lee’s antics are ok??

  14. bigjolly on May 4th, 2007 at 12:30 pm

It is also interesting that the ONLY witness testifying against this bill in person was:

Felker Jones, Laurie Deputy Political Director ( NARAL Pro-Choice Texas), Austin, TX

  15. gadboy on May 4th, 2007 at 12:31 pm

#13- When have you seen me post anything nice about Sheila? Sounds like you attended the “2 wrongs make a right” school.

Does the phrase No fiscal cost anticipated mean that they won’t have to incur a cost? Perhaps Dan can march out and shake the money tree.

I suppose that all those hospitals out there will pony up the money for the ultra-sounds out of their pockets. Pehaps we could get the feds to pay for the ultra-sounds (Oh yea, that will still end up costing me).

My experience tells me that at banquets such as you describe, invited politicians are among several speakers and are rarely–if ever–expected to carry the load in doing the recognizing of the honorees.
You’re just blowing smoke, baby, like you always do….just reaching WAY OUT there for some way to insult Senator Patrick.

#16. Simple, the ultra sounds are being done today, right now, even as we speak. The clinic is required to get an ultra sound. What this bill does is require the clinic to offer the mother a chance to see the ultra sound THEY ALREADY HAVE.

  20. gadboy on May 4th, 2007 at 12:51 pm

I never have to reach far to point out how much of an empty suit Dan is.

“Unless the baby is armed and attacking you and your life is in danger.”

I wouldn’t have the heart to put a cap in even an attacking baby.

    Maybe a taser…

  22. american woman on May 4th, 2007 at 2:08 pm

I am so proud of Dan for sticking to his values. It’s apparent we have people who do not like Dan, commenting here, sorry, you loose….. unborn babies win.. There is a statistic that over 80% of pregnant women keep their babies after seeing the ultra sound. So you can be mean spirited about Dan all you want, looks like he saved some lives…… and can you say that about yourself?

  23. Dee on May 4th, 2007 at 2:12 pm

I say congratulations to Dan. I know this issue seems insignificant and unimportant to many people, but when Dan stands before God at judgement day, there is no doubt in my mind he will be rewarded for trying to save innocent lives. We need to be patient with Dan and thankful that he is there doing what is right. I have listened to him for years and truly believe he is sincere and honest. Let’s take one bill at a time.

    Gadboy says:

ROFLMAO! Gadboy didn’t like Dan when he was running (and bet me he would lose) and he especially doesn’t like him now that he is passing bills left and right! How freakin’ funny! Gads never followed up on the bet either! Typical liberal!

  26. dcgirl on May 4th, 2007 at 2:45 pm

I think that the point is that Dan preached and preached while running for office that one of his major goals was to reduce the appraisal cap. Not that this bill is unimportant, but I have not yet heard, maybe mistakenly, anything about lowering appraisal caps.

  27. duhmoose on May 4th, 2007 at 2:51 pm

I believe there is a bill for lowering the appraisal cap to 3% that Dan is backing. Last I heard though, it was still in committee.

  28. digitaldon37 on May 4th, 2007 at 4:16 pm

    Good for Dan.

I hope the governor calls one special session after another until we get the appraisal cap lowered.

  29. gadboy on May 4th, 2007 at 4:36 pm

Neo-I am going to send my e-mail address to Squawk. I want him to send it you and we will set up that lunch.

Congrats to Dan! We need to elect more of these people into office.

    Edd Hendee? Are you listening?

Squawk: I would like a tall, rich, conservative man that works out of town a lot, but is a handyman around the house when he is at home, and has have a vasectomy. That way, I could quit my job to re-hab injured wildlife, and adopt more rescue horses. HOOK ME UP! :)

Please don’t think that I’m just going to spend his money frivously. I’ll “adopt” a turkey from the SPCA for $5 around Thanksgiving. Too bad a pack of wild dogs killed my poor Tom. :(

  37. EricPJohnson on May 4th, 2007 at 9:33 pm

    David,

Hey I’m, against abortion and property taxes

    Neither have been accomplished

    yet…..

  38. EricPJohnson on May 4th, 2007 at 9:34 pm

I’m also for the skeezy father to pay all costs, every single freakin penny of the cost of the child till 25 years

    Or go to jail

    I’m for that too

need to see that from Dan

Want to end abortion in Texas without a supreme court fight

    Pass that one

  39. Meglet on May 4th, 2007 at 9:45 pm

Good luck on that last one #38…

I like how everyone’s all upset because Dan’s been in office fighting his rear off and everyone’s panties are in a wad because there are no tax appraisal cuts…I’d like to see any one of you get elected and get something done faster!

Found your card! Will send you an email. For all you wise guys out there, don’t get excited - I only go out with single conservative men! I’ve met Gadboy and have seen that he is harmless! A free lunch is a free lunch!

You are spot on. No one believed that Dan would be so effective. I did. I campaigned with him, blockwalked endless neighborhoods, made phone calls, manned headquarters when David wasn’t there. I saw him campaign and he has not changed to this day. He has kept his integrity and his faith. Just wish we had more like him. My one hope is that he will stir up Republicans to act like Republicans. Seems he is doing a pretty good job so far in that direction. He is proving to be the conscience of the Senate.

  45. EricPJohnson on May 6th, 2007 at 2:50 am

    Hey,

It was expected of everyone else right? With a 50-50 tie in 2000 everyone expected the Republicans to eliminate social security and medicare and deport all illegals - this blogs management has blasted Bush and Perry for being unable to do it or do what no other politicians have done….

Ask if Dans passed tax reform yet, everyone gets testy

Cause it is what it is?

Dan said he would get it done if he can’t he either needs to communicate that or get out of the way

  46. PBFloyd on May 6th, 2007 at 4:30 am

#38 EPJ: Get a grip, dude, like any of that would ever happen……….

#44 Concur with Neo, he appears to be doing what he said he would do, using his conscience to represent his constituents to the best of his ability. The GOP needs more of his kind and less of blathering phonies like Perry and Dewhurst.

#43 Oh, BTW: I meet that discription, too, Neo! (;s

LOL! You’re up mighty early or is it mighty late? ;)

  48. PBFloyd on May 6th, 2007 at 12:29 pm

Neo! He hee, oh you noticed that……! They told me that one has to get up really early to get ‘em past you, so I guess they we’re right about that!

    LOL!

    You caught me up late while celebrating my Irish/Mexican heritage on Cinco de Mayo, of course, which is as good as an excuse as any other, I suppose! (;

  49. Neocon on May 6th, 2007 at 1:08 pm

PBFloyd, must have been some celebration! And you also have St. Patrick’s Day! Lucky you!

  50. PBFloyd on May 7th, 2007 at 7:16 am

Yes, always make a point of celebrating St. Patty’s Day to honor my Irish hertitage too.

Of course, I celebrate Texas Independence Day with equal fervor, so it’s not just the Cinco de Mayo thing; like I said, as good of an excuse as any.

    But if I can promote some diversity appreciation by eating some good Mexican comida and washing it down with a few cervesas, well, I am always glad to do it! (;
