I pray for Fred Thompson to announce…we won’t have to worry about Rudy, McCain, et al if Fred would finally get into this race…

  2. Zippy_Slug on May 11th, 2007 at 4:33 pm

I’m about as hardcore as you can get to an ultra conservative, but I don’t know if one issue can disqualify a candidate outright. I am about as anti-abortion as you can get as well.

I think as long as he vows to send conservative pro-life judges to the federal bench, and punt any legislation concerning issues back to the States, he wouldn’t necessarily have to be one way or the other.

I think it should be a state issue anyway, and given to the voters to vote on directly. Rather than activist judges telling us what to do.

btw. I think there was a hit piece on Fred T. about him being pro-abortion back in the 90’s. I didn’t read more than the headline, so I may be wrong about the details.

If Guliani looks to be the only person to defeat Hillary or Obama (I’m just saying IF), I would have no problem voting for him.

Come on Fred Thompson, we need you.

  4. american woman on May 11th, 2007 at 5:04 pm

Fred for Pres. Maybe folks from New York are more thick skinned, but a Baptist University seems an odd place to speak about abortion rights. Question? How do we know he will appoint conservative judges? Cause he says so?

  5. RickG on May 11th, 2007 at 5:13 pm

    4 aw

Your question is mine. Why would anyone expect a strongly “pro-choice” president to nominate pro-life judges?

  6. jimb on May 11th, 2007 at 5:32 pm

There are only a few purely social issues that are “deal-breakers” when it comes to who I will vote for. Abortion is one of them. If a candidate isn’t willing to protect the very weakest and most defeneless among us, then what does that say about the stance they’ll take on a whole host of other issues, social or not??

  7. Fasternu 426 on May 11th, 2007 at 5:45 pm

Killin’ babies and also those that condone it are kind of a deal breaker for me too.

Saying that at HBU was disgraceful and shows his arrogance or stupidity, I don’t know which.

“This is a matter of deep and profound judgment,”

I believe God will have the last word on that, not the voters….

  8. jimb on May 11th, 2007 at 5:55 pm

Killing unborn babies is just not a matter of choice, people. It isn’t like being opposed to racism or KKK membership but not telling other people how to live their lives. Why don’t people get that??

  9. gadboy on May 11th, 2007 at 6:21 pm

As a Dem I love watching the conservatives fret over this amazingly mediocre slate of candidates. Pray tell me why you think Fred Thompson would be the savior of the country?

  10. golfer1 on May 11th, 2007 at 6:22 pm

I read somewhere that Rudy appointed some very liberal judges when he was in the position to appoint judges in New York…

  11. american woman on May 11th, 2007 at 6:31 pm

ok hilary or rudy………. thats a no-brainer.. hold my nose and vote rudy.

  12. Neocon on May 11th, 2007 at 8:11 pm

Rudy is toast. Not only is he pro-abortion but he is anti-gun. Most folks could vote for him on 1 case, but no one can vote for him on both. He is history.

  13. TEX06 on May 11th, 2007 at 8:37 pm

    I agree with # 7 and 8.

Baby kilers have no place among decent folk or even in a political party.

Married three times– pro sodomite –corrupt dude from Gothom pretty well seals the tomb of his Presidential aspirations.

  14. gregg on May 11th, 2007 at 9:47 pm

Anybody who votes for President of the United States solely based on their abortion stance should lose the right to vote. Thats stuck on stupid.

Using that logic you would vote for a freekin Socialist if they were pro life. GMAFB.

  15. raiderdav on May 11th, 2007 at 10:03 pm

#14 You don’t really understand the word logic gregg. You’re attempting a contrapositive but mixing your terms - look it up.

Here’s logic with your argument: having a candidate that is pro-rape wouldn’t be enough for you to vote against them.

Ridiculous. Killing babies is a deal breaker for a lot of us - thats not stupid - its called compassion.

  16. gregg on May 11th, 2007 at 10:23 pm

The POTUS doesnt make law. Dont want an abortion? Dont get one.

  17. jimb on May 11th, 2007 at 10:51 pm

Gregg - you’re doing exactly what I said in 8 - you’re comparing the killing of babies to some unpleasant habit like smoking. It just doesn’t wash, dude…

  18. jimb on May 11th, 2007 at 10:51 pm

Also, the POTUS appoints SCOTUS justices. That matters, a lot.

  19. jimb on May 11th, 2007 at 10:53 pm

Finally, you’re setting up a straw man. Nobody’s saying that they would vote for a candidate based solely on their abortion stance, they ‘re saying that pro-abortion is a deal breaker for a lot of us, meaning that we would vote against a “pro-choice” candidate.

The setting up of abortion as a “choice” we don’t agree with but have to let others have is the ultimate cop-out, btw…

  20. One Voice on May 11th, 2007 at 11:19 pm

“Woe to them who call good evil and evil good.”

Abortion, by any other name, is murder…pure and simple.

  21. vlou on May 11th, 2007 at 11:25 pm

IMHO, it appears Mr. Giuiani is taking for granted that he will be the GOP nominee. He needs to not be so assuming. ASS U ME nothing.

  22. Adee on May 11th, 2007 at 11:40 pm

    Run, Fred, run.

Local story, national implications, and Houston’s Leading Information Source(tm) goes with a wire story?

But hey, at least they have a Mexico City bureau. World class, guys!

Oh yeah, and the slate of the Dems. (read socialist) is all that great either.

OOPS! Or was I not suppose to feed the trolls?
But thanks for the honesty of calling yourself a Dem. Kind of unique around here.

  25. gregg on May 12th, 2007 at 8:38 am

Libs want a President to tax the rich, give money to the poor, provide healthcare and social programs and abortion on demand.

Conserves want a President to not tax anybody, let the poor take care of themselves, let everybody have guns, and no abortions.

You wonder why all we get is idiots to run for President.

  26. DanielJames on May 12th, 2007 at 10:29 am

Bravo Neocon. Most folks arent aware that Rudy would gun grab at the snap of the fingers.

  27. Tito on May 12th, 2007 at 9:35 pm

    16 Gregg,

Here is your logic coming to it’s natural conclusion.

    “Don’t like slavery?, Don’t have a slave.”

You ad hominem and straw man arguments are visible for all to see.

I would like to vote for Giuliani, if only he would go pro-life. It’s a matter of principal. But apparently you are willing to sell your soul to the devil for the lust power. Just like Sean Hannity, that cafeteria Catholic can go jump off a cliff for all I care.

    #7,8, & 13,

    I couldn’t agree more.
