Speaking of puking, this makes “me” want to puke!

From the Article; “Democrats oppose the voter ID bill, which they believe is an effort by Republicans to suppress the vote of minorities and senior citizens, who are less inclined to carry driver’s licenses and other government-issued identification.”
It’s hard to believe that The Demon-cRATS, can stand up and say that with a straight face, that this is to help minorities and senior citizens! It was just like the motor-voter bill that would let all the illegal’s vote, un-DAMN-believable!

I thought Dan was going to do away with the blocker bill? Guess he will get that done just as soon as he passes the appraisal cap reform.

  4. raiderdav on May 15th, 2007 at 6:17 pm

What was the original intent of the 2/3 rule? Why is it even on the books?

You took the words right out of my mouth. I was busy puking so I wasn’t able to comment till now.

This should be a wake-up call to those who have been advocating voting Dimowit in the next elections to send a message to the Republicans. There is no way we need any more of this regardless of how mad we are at the Republicans. It is just too bad we don’t have a viable alternative, but the Dimowits are no alternative at all.

  7. gregg on May 15th, 2007 at 6:40 pm

Democrats lose votes when ID is required.= lost elections.

Republicans keep Dems from getting illegal votes when ID is required. = win elections.

Its no more simple than that. Thats why they fight.

    To raiderdav @ 6:17

The 2/3rds rule applies to taking bills up for consideration. Each session, the Senate has a “blocker” bill which sits atop the Calendar, but aside from that, there are a host of other bills which must be taken up in order of their appearance on the Calendar. So, in order to bring a bill before the house, a 2/3rds vote is required to take it up out of the regular order of the Calendar.

For more on the 2/3rds rules, see Steve Bickerstaff’s “Lines in the Sand” (pp 113-114)

    6 & 7, ya’ll are spot on.

  10. Neocon on May 15th, 2007 at 7:08 pm

Pure and simple. The dhimmicraps want the illegals to be able to vote. What they don’t understand is that the majority of illegals do not vote. This may increase in the future, the way things are going on immigration. Most illegals are ignorant in their own written language and definitely are ignorant in the English language. Mark my words, this will change, just as soon as they are granted amnesty because they will be required to learn English as part thereof.

It’s called the “Rose Bush Rule”. This is the means by which the “gentlemen” of the senate stiffle debate on things that they don’t want to go on record about. Dan tried but failed to get rid of this arcane crap. Since Dan is my State Senator, I can’t complain to him about it, but, if he’s not yours, then you have some e-mail and phone work to do.

  12. Neocon on May 15th, 2007 at 7:46 pm

    JRB

Exactly! Dan is my senator so I have no one to call. But I urge everyone else to call their state senator re the Roshbush Rule!

  13. jimb on May 15th, 2007 at 8:11 pm

Anybody who opposes a voter ID bill wants illegal votes to count. I defy anyone to prove me wrong. If so, I will eat a heapin’ helpin’ of crow.

If someone can be bothered to apply for a voters registration (often done, believe it or not, at the time one goes to obtain a State ID or Driver License) then they can be bothered to obtain a state-issued ID of some sort.

  14. jimb on May 15th, 2007 at 8:12 pm

    Oh, yeah. Period, end of story$trade;

You are absolutely right! The Dhimmis are pandering for the illegal vote. No question! We need to ask those senators just why they are against that bill and just why they want illegals to “vote.” That should be interesting!

  17. gadboy on May 15th, 2007 at 8:21 pm

Neo- most U.S. citizens don’t vote either. That is why we have the problems we do.

  18. Neocon on May 15th, 2007 at 8:28 pm

Gadboy, I agree, but I would not displace American citizen voters with illegal immigrants, as most Dhimmis want to do.

Bow your heads and give thanks to Jorge ‘Reconquista’ Bushnandez in whom all open borders advocates give their holy praise.

It is by Jorge that the borders stay open and the demoncats get their voters.

Hurrah, Hurrah, Hurrah, goes out to Doubting Thomas, gregg, jimb, and neocon. Ok, end of lovefest, now for the solution. Everyone email and call your reps and senators and lets get something done. Don’t vote Dem.

“I am not aware of any other deliberative body that requires a super-duper majority to debate legislation.”

Danno has never heard of the filibuster in the United States Senate?

Well, at least give Danno credit for being honest about his lack of knowledge of history, politics, and constitutionalism. :)

Conservatives should not lament the 2/3 rule. The Texas constitution is designed to frustrate legislative activity in the state, and on top of that, the Senate has a longstanding tradition that frustrates legislative activity.

These are good things! There is no state in the union that would pass such an arrangement today. But they’re not Texas. Kudos to us.

Persistent majorities can move important legislation in Texas. Momentary factions cannot. Intelligent and learned conservatives should LOVE that. It’s democratic republicanism at its finest.

You have never liked LST, or anyone associated with it. You have constantly berated LST. Now you are constantly berating Dan for doing the job that the 7th District elected him to do. He is doing a fine job, for a freshman Senator. Go piss up another rope.

  23. jimb on May 15th, 2007 at 10:57 pm

#21 - the flipside of your argument, though, is that the 2/3 rule DOES let “momentary factions” disrupt the occasional “good bill” such as the legislation referred to in this thread…

    #21 Atlas,
Try to work the math before your mouth…

US Senate: 60% (60 votes out of 100) to CLOSE debate.
Texas Senate: 68% (21 votes out of 31) to START debate.

    Oops… Your mistake…

One other error, the 2/3rds rule is just that, a rule. It is not in the constitution and that is why it was not followed during redistricting.

Nice try, but you should do your homework before you attack. Now we wait for the mea culpa.

Shame on you #25. What makes you “think” a liberal socialist would even begin to understand what you posted? Their brain cannot make that connection.

And poor #3 expects everything to happen RIGHT NOW!!!
Tomorrow, he will have forgotten what he was ranting about today, and moved on to his next rant.

Every day is a brand new day to these bozos.

    Neo

Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t Whited one of the original founders of LST/Chronically Biased?

  28. EricPJohnson on May 16th, 2007 at 8:17 am

I think I can understand what Kevin is upset about is the hype that the taxes were going to get lowered this session

Alot of other peripheral things got touted (only to be undone by a dinner and a game :) ) as major acomplishments of herculian proportions, only to be dashed by peoples property tax appraisals arriving in the mail.

Is it dan’s fault, no. Did he come out against the Bond issues streaming in for Spring ISD and other School districts that can’t stop spending, not a peep. (Well showed up once at a Cy-Fair meeting for 20 minutes - it takes every meeting once a month for 2 hrs and give em hell)

We sent Dan the scoop on Klein ISD and Spring ISD out of the box bond issues as well as Cy-Fairs long before he ran for SD7. I heavily criticised his opponents over the years for never ever attending publically the school board meetings to ask them about how they were spending the STATE money

Dan used this in the campaign, but didn’t learn the lessons either.

So the main reason Dan was going to Austin wasn’t accomplished. Not even a vote on the floor, sad really.
