The more the liberal left dislikes this guy, the more I think he should be seriously considered. The last actor we had in the White House did an outstanding job.

I admit one thing - I’m a little suspicious of men who marry women less than half their age. I mean, it looks ridiculous. No one can take it seriously. He’s in it for sex, she’s in it for money.

Why not keep it legitimately behind doors where that kind of relationship belongs?

    65 and 35? Come on…

    T-Hawk

I’m a little suspicious of men who marry women less than half their age. (SNIP) He’s in it for sex, she’s in it for money.

Wait a minute? Just men? That doesn’t make sense. It looks to me, in this case, based on your premise that both are getting what they want.

  4. I.P.A.Bill on May 31st, 2007 at 9:51 am

I’m with you Squwakbox looks like a well ballanced relationship to me !
    RUN FRED RUN ! ! !

Hey, can you imagine having her as your first lady for 4 to 8 years?! We could have Bill…

  7. dowjones25k on May 31st, 2007 at 10:05 am

i think romney is the best person but he probably is not electable.

  8. duhmoose on May 31st, 2007 at 10:10 am

    I just can’t trust Romney.

  9. Rastus on May 31st, 2007 at 10:12 am

Sounds like a pretty regular guy to me. But wait - what’s his position on killing babies, smoking dope, illegal voting, personal morals, standing for principle, etc?

  10. I.P.A.Bill on May 31st, 2007 at 10:15 am

I would vote for Romney if he gets the nod but
he is not my first choice .

  11. duhmoose on May 31st, 2007 at 10:20 am

Originally, I didn’t have a problem with Romney’s Mormonism. Then I was talking to some folks at church and mentioned Romney. Their stance is that deception of non-Mormons is OK in the Mormon church as long. Any tool to lead towards conversion or furthering the church is OK. This family is formerly of the Mormon church and are people I trust. If this is indeed true, how do you trust someone if they believe it is ok to deceive someone in something as important as salvation?

  12. EricPJohnson on May 31st, 2007 at 11:09 am

They had a child together he made the committment and was a great father to his other children even to the point of quitting when his oldest was dying

In other words he has greater priorities in his life than the calling of politics

Read into that what you will

  13. raiderdav on May 31st, 2007 at 11:18 am

Seeing the ‘progressives’ freak out and immediately slinging mud is a good sign. This only makes me like Fred more as a candidate.

  14. No Higher Tax on May 31st, 2007 at 11:29 am

Now I am suspicious of Fred as Eric said something nice about him and it was based on a FACT - great going Eric.

  15. gregg on May 31st, 2007 at 11:38 am

If there was a Dem in the WH now I would say he has a chance. But, with GWB and that stench emanating from the oval oriface, I dont thing Jesus could be elected President if he ran as a Republican.

  16. dcgirl on May 31st, 2007 at 11:38 am

FYI the Mormon church believes in Jesus (hence the “Church of Jesus Christ….”. Since they are of the Christian faith, albeit one that many people don’t know alot about, why the fear?

    To All:

I am convinced that the very-right wing social conservatives would stand behind and promote a polka-dotted ape for President as long as:

    1. Indicates he (she?) will nominate a supreme who has a judicial temperment somewhere to the right of Lord Torquemada.

    2. He professes to be “born-again” and is a social conservative.

    3. Card carrying member of the NRA. (Doesn’t have to know how to shoot straight. i.e. Cheney)

If the guy is a fiscal conservative, well thats ok but not required.

Need not be familar with the Veto process.

Ok if he loves BIG Government.

    Simple

“Blasphemy!”, you say. I dunno. Take a look at the White House now.

  19. duhmoose on May 31st, 2007 at 11:57 am

dcgirl, But the Jesus they believe in is not the same as the one I believe in. There are major fundamental differences between those who follow the Book of Mormon as the basis of their faith and those who follow the Bible as their basis. Muslims believe in Jesus, that doesn’t mean I have some religious kinship with them.

  20. Mikey51 on May 31st, 2007 at 12:07 pm

T-Hawkk, hate to burst your bubble, but half of 65 is 32.5, and Jeri is 40.

I admit one thing - I’m a little suspicious of men who marry women less than half their age. I mean, it looks ridiculous. No one can take it seriously. He’s in it for sex, she’s in it for money.

    Here they are,”I admit… …on…”

  22. gregg on May 31st, 2007 at 12:17 pm

I’m a flat Earther. Can I run for Prez? Smack believes in fairies. Can he be my Vp?

  23. trl3 on May 31st, 2007 at 12:38 pm

    To All:

I am convinced that very left wing liberals would stand behind and promote a polka dotted ape for President as long as:

    1. They promise to have Universal Health care and make those nasty rich guys pay for it.

    2. Promise to lower gas price prices and make those nasty rich guys pay for it.

    3. Promise to allow all illegals remain here and provide them with all gov. benifits and make those nasty rich guys pay for it.

    4. Promise to remove our troops have Iraq, no matter what may happen to that country immediately and to this one later as a result.

    5. Promise to appoint supremes that will continue to find “rights” in the constitution even if they have to rely on international opinion to do so.

    6. Promise to continue to give the poorest 51 percent of Americans anything they so desire and make those nasty rich guys pay for it.

    7. Promise to raise taxes, but only on those nasty rich guys because they never deserved what they got anyway.

Think Not? Look at who they are running and who the polls say is leading.

    15 gregg

I doubt Jesus could get the nomination anyway.

  25. texpat on May 31st, 2007 at 12:43 pm

    #18 Simple

Most people would consider me a social conservative given my positions on marriage and abortion. I am very concerned and engaged on the issue of judicial appointments and no, I do not support a Torquemada on SCOTUS. I do, however, agree with the appointments of Roberts and Alito. These are card-carrying members of the Inquisition, Simple ?

I don’t really care whether a politician is “born again”, but I am very interested in the content of his character. NRA membership is irrelevant if the candidate demonstrates a clear understanding and support of the Second Amendment. Fiscal restraint and smaller government are mandatory characteristics for an acceptable candidate in my book. Adherence to first principles and the confidence to use the veto to advance them are also required.

I did not vote for Bush twice with my eyes closed - I was well aware of his faults. The fact of the matter is there was no other choice for me. I thought your comments were a cheap shot and not up to your usual standards, Simple.

  26. RickG on May 31st, 2007 at 12:45 pm

    18 Simple

Can he join the NRA just before he runs for President and call himself a “life long” hunter when he had only been twice in 40 years?

Those are a couple of reasons I am suspicious of Mitt Romney.

He may truly have become a conservative (another red flag: he was Governor of Massachussets, for God’s sake), but there are others who have seniority in that department and I feel more comfortable with someone who didn’t just discovery his conservative side yesterday.

  27. american woman on May 31st, 2007 at 2:22 pm

Fred Thompson has married a younger woman… big deal. He’s not living with her. She’s not having his babies out of wedlock. They arent seen doing weird things …….. who cares. I want a strong man of character who can manhandle this congress into doing good things for its citizens. A papa bear to these uncontrollable cub no -it -alls. So far Fred is my man. I think he’s strength is sexy lol

  28. duhmoose on May 31st, 2007 at 2:25 pm

Personally I prefer to see an older man with a younger woman than an older man with another man twice his age.

  29. nz-texas on May 31st, 2007 at 2:32 pm

If Fred were in it only for sex he wouldn’t be married!!! Tell me I’m lying.

  30. Shannon on May 31st, 2007 at 2:36 pm

My wife is fifteen years older than I am.

    She married me for sex.

No one questions my conservative bona fides.

    Or hers.

  32. texpat on May 31st, 2007 at 2:38 pm

I have an uncle in Dallas, very affluent, prominent attorney, who went to the Phillipines, met and married a girl 30 years his junior. That was 20 years ago and now he is in his late, but healthy, seventies and she in her forties. They are one of the happiest couples I have ever seen.

  33. texpat on May 31st, 2007 at 2:41 pm

    #30 Little Brother

It must be true since she couldn’t have married you for brains or money.

    #33 - ouch! that’s gonna leave a mark.

  35. Jaime on May 31st, 2007 at 3:00 pm

#16 The members of the LDS (they do not like the term Mormon these days) are not Christians. LDS practices has many similarities with Masons.

In their theology Jesus is the spritual brother of Lucifer. Elohim being their father.

It has been a long time since I read up on Mormon theology so I do not rememebr if it was Joseph Smith or Brigham Young who said: As man is, God was. As God is, man will be.

Isaiah 44:6 “This is what the LORD says—
Israel’s King and Redeemer, the LORD Almighty:
    I am the first and I am the last;
apart from me there is no God.

The LDS teaches that men can become gods. That men will father new populations in other planets.

Compare that with Genesis chapter 3. Also, read Isaiah chapters 40 through 47, or so.

If you are a woman, oh joy, your job is to be busy getting pregnant and giving birth to all those little spiritual babies, to populate the inherited planet. And you better be a good and submissive wife or your husband may not call you out of your tomb in the resurrection.

  36. ears1foru on May 31st, 2007 at 3:04 pm

Anyone remember Bullock…he use to introduce his wife Jan by saying he’s hard of hearing but take a look.. his eyesight is great. As far as having a Mormon…if he’s anything like our Gov. Perry….Marriot will now control all the catering at Federal prisons.

  37. MadDog on May 31st, 2007 at 3:04 pm

    T-Hawkk
do you EVER have anything to say that IS NOT negative?

  38. Big45Iron on May 31st, 2007 at 3:07 pm

She kinda looks like a cross between Madonna and Dolly Parton.

What I don’t like about Fred Thompson is his milktoast silence on so many issues. I want a leader of conservative issues, not a follower.

Uh Simple, in your #18, would you then exclude Billy Graham if he decided to run is he were in good health?

  39. Shannon on May 31st, 2007 at 3:25 pm

Nah, been putting up with it for over fifty years.

  40. Shannon on May 31st, 2007 at 3:30 pm

    Milktoast silence?
    That’s a strange word grouping.

Hey, if the guy runs he won’t be able stay silent for long.

And if he tries to do the Best Little Whorehouse In Texas politician’s dance, he’ll be toast anyway.

He knows what all this “rumbling out there” is all about.

I’m not quite sure what to make of your comment. Fred Thompson was a federal prosecutor, Watergate prosecutor, attorney at law, US congressman and US senator. Oh, and he does spend a few days a year with a bit part in a television show. Occasionally, he has had a part in a movie. While this may get him a listing on movie trivia websites, it doesn’t, in my opinion, make him a Hollywood celebrity. Frankly, I welcome the thoughts and opinions of anyone who is a viable candidate for higher office. I’m always looking for that right person.

  48. nz-texas on May 31st, 2007 at 10:39 pm

That is true - however he is not running yet. If I’m not mistaken he is most currently an actor. Agreed he is more than the average celebrity but if you make a rule for one you make it for all. Can’t wait until he does run and I’m sure many a post will take place here when he does
