Yeah, I caught the plagiarism that you pointed out and started not to use her comments in COW. But, that entire thread was so good that I ended up using it as a “teaser” to get people to read the whole thing. Wish all of the threads were that interesting.

I really wanted to discuss her comment that “God is the goodness within all of us”. I could go on all day about that. I think the best way to refute that statement is to have a person be alone in a roomful of 2 year olds. Vicious little creatures. Goodness seems to me to be a learned behavior.

  42. Elizabeth on June 9th, 2007 at 12:56 pm

    Hello? tap…tap…tap…AHEM! ™

There seems to be a rash of orphaned deer lately. Dunno what’s going on, but here’s the deal. DO NOT FEED IT!! If you find a baby deer, please leave it alone for about 3 hours. The greatest mistake that we make, is to assume that it is abandoned. Generally, a mom will leave the baby in a “safe” spot while she grazes. She WILL come back. She’s eating, so she can nurse her baby.

I went into Tractor Supply today and found 2 women on the floor, feeding a newborn deer Calf Manna milk. BIG mistake. I managed to talk them into giving it to me, and took it to a TPWD re-habber named Emily. She has 18 years experience, and if anybody can help re-hab her, it’s Emily! Hopefully the baby will make it, but she’s really sick now, due to cows milk. Please post, e-mail, or call me if you need help with ANY wild animals (except for an alligator over 2 ft. long. I gotta draw the line somewhere) Here is a very convienient link with every current rehabber, in every county:

    http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/wild/rehab/list/

BTW: The story the lady told me of how she aquired the deer, I did not believe. Her husband was the BIGGEST poacher in my old neighborhood and I truly believe that he poached and killed the mama, and realized that she had a baby…His wife didn’t realize who I was until after I told her. /sorry for the rant….

  67. southerntragedy on June 9th, 2007 at 8:37 pm

#65 Marc: Hold on…During Katrina, weren’t they taking guns away from citizens, because it was against the law?

When Rep.William Jefferson was arraigned on a boatload of corruption and racketeering charges on Friday, he was ordered to surrender his firearms. Apparently, while the Louisiana Democrat stores his FBI-marked bribe money in his freezer in Washington, he stockpiles his collection of rifles and shotguns in his home in New Orleans.

Exactly how many weapons do you hafta have, until they are considered “stockpile”? I have a “few”. Am I stockpiling?

Bring on more charges for cold cash Jefferson! Maybe one, just one, will stick… /spittles

ST, you are not an indited person, so are entitled to your collection.

My point was that Jefferson is anti NRA, anti GUN rights, and collects guns. He voted against every bill to protect gun rights and manufacturers. This is poetic justice. He used his bribe money to collect valuable guns. They are taking his toys away. The Judge looked at them as collectibles as part of money laundering and racketeering.

The illegal seisure of guns in NO has been addressed in court. Now they need to enforce the law.

  75. Squawkbox Noise on June 9th, 2007 at 9:26 pm

As for your weapons, dang! Sweet! I know how much a “legal” gun costs these days.

As for the resta ya…..Let’s get something straight…I am a member of PETA! People Eating Tasty Animals…Ya kill what ya eat. I am TOTALLY against poaching (whether fish, deer, dove, etc.) There is a reason for the seasons! That baby wouldn’t of made a snack. I’ve birthed ‘possums, for goodness sakes. 83. hamous on June 9th, 2007 at 10:10 pm

I’m not familiar with the gun laws in NOLA. I do have a problem with the judge taking guns away from an unconvicted man, simply because he’s indicted. Yes, even Mr. Jefferson. Its all about due process. Regardless of what legislation he’s voted on related to gun ownership, and yes it is poetic justice, the 2nd amendment applies to all or to none. Once he’s convicted of a crime he forfeits those rights.

guns are not outlawed on NO, and never were. The NRA bropught suit against the NOLA PD for having confiscated those guns, which they claimed was done to “prevent violence.” When the guns were order returned, amy of them ahd “gotten lost” until they wer found being sold in gun shows and shops all over the south.

Fact of the matter is, the NOLA PD stole a bunch of guns in the name of keeping the peace.

Those NOLA PD guys have thier own definintion of what “honest and legal” means.

One good thing that’s come of that is a law passed here in Texas that specifically prohibits the taking away of citizens guns during emergencies such as Katrina.

Understand about maintaining animal population, how they will suffer and starve if not for hunters, most hunters are responsible and consume or donate what game they kill, etc… If it was the only means of providing food for my family I would do it too. But Krogers is right down the road and has a/c, no chigggers, snakes or bugs and someone else deals with the blood and guts. OK - I’m a weenie.

ROTFLOL Sarge’s #76 in the middle of all the talk of tasty deer, and stews caused me to read

    Mmmm, cabrito….

  96. Matt 'Zilla' Bramanti, CPO™ on June 9th, 2007 at 10:38 pm

Hammie, I don’t have a problem disarming people under indictment, and here’s why:

The right to not be confined is even more fundamental than the right to bear arms. And people under indictment may be deprived of theie right not to be confined — they may be held pending trial.

Thus, if we can suspend a defendant’s right to walk down the street, we can suspend his right to be armed.

Of course, judges should still be reasonable in doing this, just as they should be reasonable in deciding whether to lock up a defendant, put a tracker on him, take his passport, or whatever.

Still, I don’t think disarming is appropriate in this case. Jefferson is as crooked as a question mark, but I haven’t seen any suggestion that he could be violent.

  97. Matt 'Zilla' Bramanti, CPO™ on June 9th, 2007 at 10:42 pm

And Emme, the wedding plans are going great. We painted our own bride-and-groom cake topper, and it turned out perfect.

Next order of business is buying the rings. I’d better get something I like, considering I gotta wear it for freakin’ ever. :)

  98. hamous on June 9th, 2007 at 10:52 pm

…they may be held pending trial.

Which effectively disarms them. I’m trying to think of a case where someone under indictment is released pending trial and should have their guns confiscated. I just can’t see it. If they’re violent enough that you would need to suspend their 2nd amendment rights then they shouldn’t be released.

  99. sargevining on June 9th, 2007 at 11:05 pm

Believe it or not, I side with Matt.Disarmig this nutcase before trial

Deer meat is gritty, gamey and gross. (Locks the door, pulls the shades and hides under the bed.)

But I ain’t yo mama and I suggest that you play with your food. You gotta love a possum recipe that starts out like this.

Directions: First, catch a possum. This in itself is excellent entertainment on a moonlight night.

Soak the meat in milk it get rid of the gamey taste.

  112. Squawkbox Noise on June 10th, 2007 at 9:59 am

Marinate or cook deer meat in Chambord liqueur. Knocks that gamey taste right out of the meat.

Oh!! and the younger the deer the less gamey tasting the meat.

  113. texpat on June 10th, 2007 at 10:28 am

I’ve never had venison that tasted gamey that was field dressed properly.

  114. texpat on June 10th, 2007 at 10:31 am

And if you want to eat venison, elk or any other game meat cooked in superb gourmet fashion, go to Shannon’s house and tell my sister-in-law you are hungry. The competition would lay down their pots and knives once they tasted her cooking.

  115. american woman on June 10th, 2007 at 11:15 am

Elizabeth, I am with you! I saw Bambi when about 6 years old so……no bambi’s for me. Ya’all eat my share … oh and no mud bugs either!

  116. hamous on June 10th, 2007 at 11:43 am

Texpat’s correct. You gotta field dress it right. That and aging before you freeze it. A lot of people just cut it up and freeze it immediately. Guaranteed to give you gamey venison.

LOL. Diane likes them…frankly, I’m getting a bit tired of them. After 200 boxes, I still haven’t found a decent wedding ring.

Got a sweet decoder ring, though.

  122. Elizabeth on June 10th, 2007 at 1:06 pm

#121 Matt - Hang on to that decoder ring. It will come in handy after through the years of marriage.

  128. american woman on June 10th, 2007 at 2:04 pm

#126 IPA Bill, we have them quaking in their boots over the loud angry outcry they heard, but of course to admit it would be to admit we have power. YES we do have power.

  129. DanielJames on June 10th, 2007 at 2:50 pm

With all due respect I doubt they are quaking. However, I am quaking. I realize what many dont. The gov has been highjacked. On the surface we won. Right now there are back room deals going on. When it does happen many here will be like…how did that happen? Remember CAFTA? It had no chance.

In the meantime the borders are wide open for anyone except law abiding people to travel freely across.

Law abiders now have to have passports.

Thats the laugh of all sick laughs!

Illegals are still the most free people on this planet while the citizenry is subject to regulations out the ying yang. Bravo. Thats exactly what our slave masters want.

My friends we have been enslaved. The chains hang lightly but they are there. Monday when you go to work, work hard so your money can be taken from you to help the needy illegals.

    I’m gone!

  130. tedtam on June 10th, 2007 at 2:57 pm

I am frantically typing before my cable connection is lost again…I am preparing for my trip, but wanted to say one last “bye!” to everyone! I hope to have some kind of website after I get back with pictures…and I’m hoping a nod to LST as well!

After the wheels leave the ground, I can’t do anything about my mom…my business…I’ll only have 15 hours or so of airline crap and then I’ll be in Rome!

My husband is soooo gonna miss me - I know where all the money is! (in a leetle sock under the bed, ‘cuz there ain’t that much of it!).

Daniel, there have been numerous indications over the last year or so that illegal border crossings are dropping. Not near enough but its not status quo. Yeah, yeah, I know. Government/Media Complex yada yada yada.

But I think I know what he’s looking for as a solution to all our problems.

Daniel, did I understand you correctly the other day that you have now taken the route of Edward, a Living Soul in the Body of the Lord, of the House of Israel, Elaine, a Living Soul in the Body of the Lord, of the House of Israel, and their Savior, Sonny, and are refusing to pay your income taxes?

In an effort to bring a little levity to these proceedings, I posted this at Shakey’s, but it has become nothing over there but an argument about Iraq between Sarge and Gregg. It will be more appreciated here:

This girl is the new hoochie mama of the tennis world. She just lost in the finals of the French Open. Ana Ivanovic is a 6′1″ brunette who hails from Serbia.

    http://www.noledjokovic.com/Liens/bisang_celeb_3_19.jpeg

Speaking of tall girls and note I am 6′1″ tall. Friday night after seeing Duke Robillard, we went over to our local hangout on the Hudson River to see our favorite R&B/Jazz band. When we arrived at 12:30, they had just started their second set and were in full-blown James Brown mode. There were 8 black couples there, all of whom are our friends. Two of the gals, Gwen and Elaine, jumped up and dragged me onto the dance floor. They are both 6′2″, beautiful, slender, athletic and smart. Gwen is a high school counselor and Elaine is a novelist and HBO producer. They were both wearing 6″ stiletto heels and as they were thrusting their cleavages at me, at eye level, I finally realized what it’s like to be Smacktle.
