Did y’all notice there was not a single substantive criticism at all in the whole rant - calling Reid a “dim bulb,” criticizing his appearance, his voice, etc. - the closest to substance he came was a hackneyed, non-specific accusation that Reid’s stance on the war benefits terrorists.

There was a time when conservatism was an intellectual movement, just like there was a time when Dennis Miller was an intellectual comic. Both have descended far from their apex if Miller’s rant is any indication. I don’t personally think much of Harry Reid for a number of reasons, but there was nothing to this screed but puerile name calling, and I’m surprised a) that responsible blogs much less a news program would run it or b) that it resonates with adults.

Grits thinks we’re a “responsible” blog?

    Cool! ;)

Grits needs to hang around a tad more!

I agree with you - how dare Miller try to be funny
and on a comedy show no less.

I have to partially agree with Grits.

Dennis Miller’s little rant had very little substance and consisted mostly of petty name calling. It sounded a lot like Al Franken with an improved vocabulary and less steam pouring out of the ears.

Conservatives are generally the reasonable thought provoking people operating from intellect; whereas, liberals generally are the emotionally reactive ones who don’t look at the facts.

Example: Conservatives realize that most tax cuts are good for the economy, generate more revenue for the government and allow people to ascend the economic ladder via small businesses. Liberals ignore that tax cuts grow the economy which benefits all Americans and fall back on class envy as they claim the cuts only benefit the rich. The fact that you can’t cut the taxes of a person who doesn’t pay any is irrelevant.

Dennis Miller should have focused his humor on topical events by asking how many illegal immigrants Reid plans to host in his mansion while they are waiting for their visas. He could have told Reid that if he needed extra freezer space for food for these immigrants, William Jefferson has a couple he can borrow.

I’m used to Dennis Miller being more like Laura Ingram than Ann Coulter, and I hope he returns to it.

#3 - LOL! Dem shur ’nuff is sum kinda fancy words, ain’t they?

Still, what great words, brutally on target and wonderfully strung together in a very funny rant. Sure it was light on substance and thick with insult and innuendo but Miller IS a comic (he certainly isn’t a sports commentator) and I sure got a good laugh out of it.

Dennis Miller pointed out that Hairy Reed’s spineless, milk-toast, whiney , soft spoken, weepy verbage was being listened to by our enemies and he appears to them as the rear end of a horse. Translation: Out enemies respect power and force, he has neither. He makes our country look weak and conquerable.

Harry Reid is one one the few polititians with a lower approval rating than George Bush. That should tell us something.

Wow, do you have a funny bone in your body? (Asking that in a sarcastic tone.) That did come from a comedy show. I am guessing that comedy central is more up your alley huh? (Asking again in a sarcastic tone.) But then again communication is 90% body language, tone, and the other 10% are words. Did you get that I was being sarcastic. :)))

Umm, Dennis Miller’s piece was on the Half Hour News Hour on FNC last night, and the program is SATIRE, people. You know, like Saturday Night Live??? Maybe Comedy Central??? Repeating for those of you in Rio Linda, it is SATIRE, and pretty darned good, too. Lighten up.

Everyone missed that day in school on satire but I agree with you and I thought he was hilarious just like the Rush bit at the beginning. :)

  16. american woman on June 11th, 2007 at 8:20 pm

Right its satire but Miller gets his punches in.

  17. themack on June 11th, 2007 at 10:16 pm

Did anyone else hear about Reid refer to those extra 12+ million among us as “Undocumented AMERICANS”? I thought it was misspeak until it was pointed out that he was reading it, and that he had it on his webiste for about the last week, until this weekend.

    Un-freakin-believable…

Unlike Al Franken, Miller is actually funny, uses truth to make his point, and makes a point.

    See the difference??

  19. Peter on June 12th, 2007 at 8:50 am

“uses truth to make his point”

Would that truth be CSI doing a chalk outline around the podium or that Reid talks like Mr. Limpid?

In a nearly two minute rant, he made two quick points with the rest being nothing but name calling. I suppose it was SNL type of humor. You know, the skits that are a little humorous at first and then are drug to death as you’re waiting for it to end.

I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree.

I think a rant that is 80% name calling is poor political humor and downright boring coming from either side.
