Why do old retired men think they all of a sudden know everything they should have known when they were younger (and he has hobbies, so don’t say he needs hobbies, etc.)? I asked my retired husband if he wanted to be buried next to his mother and he got a little upset that I asked him that. Wasn’t I considerate in thinking he still wanted his mommy?

I started a foil hat factory. They say this is the land of opportunity. And it is.

I have single layer hats, double layer and for the real tough days three layers of Reynolds wrap foil. That should keep e’m away.

I recently bought this book. When you get bored this summer making tinfoil hats and run out of kittens to put in the wood chipper, there are plenty of fun things to do in this manual. Personally, I am going to build the flaming potato cannon to mount on the bow of the boat so I can take out a few drunken jet skiers. Should be fun !

The thing that irritates me are all the wives of these retired guys who make lists of endless errands for their husbands in order to get them out of their hair. These codgers drive around in the middle of the day at 31 mph with a dazed and confused look on their faces. “Uh, let’s see, was I supposed to take the drycleaning to the meat market…do they sell sirloins in Home Depot…what is that place, Oh my God, I’m lost - I don’t know where I am…” slams on brakes in the middle of Westheimer.

  39. american woman on June 23rd, 2007 at 1:13 pm

#37 Elizabeth that sounds like a completion of a deletion…… hehe….. fine by me! Texpat this is caused by poor preretirement planning. Men who retire must either build a room in their basement, garage or a shed. They cannot be in the house with the zapper and tv, wanting cool beverages from 11 to 6. They need a frig, tv and phone in their lair. The routine must be similar to when they work, they disappear, they return. And they lived happily ever after.

Although I do disagree with Napolitano on the Bush/WOT positions on the Fourth & Fifth Amendments, he does raise some very good points in his books about judicial and prosecutorial misconduct. If you read his “Constitutional Chaos” in tandem with Mark Levin’s “Men in Black”, an alarming picture develops and you never, ever need question the necessity of defense attorneys again.

Later ! back to doing the honey-dos that Americans won’t do.

I have four older (male & female) friends who have retired in the last two years. Only one is happy - the other three are in varying stages of depression. Before my friend, Jeff, retired his wife made him create all kinds of plans, projects, etc. so he would stay occupied for a long time. It has worked for him.

  43. american woman on June 23rd, 2007 at 1:29 pm

Elizabeth indeed we don’t want to do any illegal codger-capturing! Texpat I was teasing but yes, a vital man, who for all his life has been active, a provider, vital, does not do well with nothing to do. It is important to make plans for retirement. A wise wife will help him decide what he has longed to do and not had time for. I also think the mentoring programs are so great for retirees both male and female. They are so full of information and can provide great help. We need to feel productive.

  45. Elizabeth on June 23rd, 2007 at 1:51 pm

You are so right American Woman. Feeling needed, appreciated and productive along with staying mentally and physically active is crucial after retirement. Bowling leagues, card playing groups, travel groups for seniors, church groups for seniors, entertaining friends and family, volunteering w/ any organization where they are led (and so many people desperately need and want their wisdom), going back to school (lots of retired folks do and love it)or just learning new skills on their own, starting that l’il side business they always dreamed about, etc., - the list is endless.

  46. texpat on June 23rd, 2007 at 1:54 pm

I have a list of books which have had a profound impact on me. This is on that list and everyone should read it. The author developed his philosophy from his experience of being imprisoned at Auschwitz. I have never had much use for Freud and this man has always made far more sense. In the end, the theme of this book has everything to do with retirement and what you do with your life. From a review:

” Freud believed that sexual instincts and urges were the driving force of humanity’s life; Frankl, by contrast, believes that man’s deepest desire is to search for meaning and purpose. Frankl’s logotherapy, therefore, is much more compatible with Western religions than Freudian psychotherapy. This is a fascinating, sophisticated, and very human book. At times, Frankl’s personal and professional discourses merge into a style of tremendous power. ”

#2 T-Hawkk: Hillary is a communist? Check this out!

Madam speaker Nancy Pelosi wants to put a Windfall tax on all stock market profits (including Retirement fund, 401K’s and Mutual Funds! Alas it is true. All to help the 12 Million Illegal Immigrants and other unemployed Minorities!

Boy, are we in trouble… This woman is frightening. Take special note of the last paragraph Is she really this whacked out?

Nancy Pelosi condemned the new record highs of th e stock market as “just another example of Bush policies helping the rich get richer”. “First Bush cut taxes for the rich and the economy has rebounded with new record low unemployment rates, which only means wealthy employers are getting even wealthier at the expense of the underpaid working class”.

She went on to say “Despite the billions of dollars being spent in Iraq our economy is still strong and government tax revenues are at all time highs. What this really means is that business is exploiting the war effort and working Americans, just to put money in their own pockets”.

When questioned about recent stock market highs she responded “Only the rich benefit from these record highs. Working Americans, welfare recipients, the unemployed and minorities are not sharing in these obscene record highs”. “There is no question these windfall profits and income created by the Bush administration need to be taxed at 100% rate and those dollars redistributed to the poor and working class”. “Profits from the stock market do not reward the hard work of our working class who, by their hard work, are responsible for generating these corporate profits that create stock market profits for the rich. We in congress will need to address this issue to either tax these profits or to control the stock market to prevent this unearned income to flow to the rich.”

When asked about the fact that over 80% of all Americans have investments in mutual funds, retirement funds, 401K’s, and the stock market she replied “That may be true, but probably only 5% account for 90% of all these investment dollars. That’s just more “trickle down” economics claiming that if a corporation is successful that everyone from the CEO to the floor sweeper benefit from higher wages and job security which is ridiculous”. “How much of this ‘trickle down’ ever get to the unemployed and minorities in our county? None, and that’s the tragedy of these stock market highs.”

“We democrats are going to address this issue after the election when we take control of the congress. We will return to the 60% to 80% tax rates on the rich and we will be able to take at least 30% of all current lower Federal Income Tax tax payers off the roles and increase government income substantially. We need to work toward the goal of equalizing income in our country and at the same time limiting the amount the rich can invest.”

When asked how these new tax dollars would be spent, she replied ; ; “We need to raise the standard of living of our poor, unemployed and minorities. For example, we have an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in our country who need our help along with millions of unemployed minorities. Stock market windfall profits taxes could go a long ways to guarantee these people the standard of living they would like to have as “Americans”.

  66. txpatriot on June 23rd, 2007 at 5:21 pm

#40 texpat: “you never, ever need question the necessity of defense attorneys again”

    Consider the following:

    1. Americans appearing in American courts represented by licensed lawyers are known to be “wards-of-the-court.” See, e.g., Corpus Juris Secundum, Attorney & Client, Sec. 2, pg. 769.

Black’s Law Dictionary (5th Ed., 1991) defines “wards-of-the-court’ as “infants” or “persons of unsound mind.” Lawyers never tell you this when they take your money. Wonder why?

    2. “His (the attorney’s) first duty is to the court, not to the client, and whenever the duties he owes to the client conflict with the duties he owes to the court, as an officer of the court in the administration of justice, the former must yield to the latter.” Corpus Juris Secundum, Attorney & Client, Sec. 4, pg. 802. Lawyers don’t tell you this either.

What you really require for your defense is, as Art. VI of the BOR states, “assistance of Counsel.”
BAR attorneys are NOT assistance of Counsel, and without you being allowed assistance of counsel, the court has NO jurisdiction!

I have read Nappy’s book. He is spot on about judicial activism etc. HOWEVER, I do not care for the the amount of F.U.D. that has been spread about the “Patriot Act” and our “Future Freedoms” being in jeopardy.

The “historical” facts do not bare the “hysterical” fear mongering that such groups as the “Future Freedoms” folks and the Lew Rockwells spew. The lack of common sense just seems to escape some folks.

I have argued with more than my fair share of folks that like to quote me the “give up freedom…don’t deserve freedom” stuff. There are always aberrations that can be cited but the preponderance of evidence does not substantiate the claims.

Another trick, after you have highlighted and coppied to the clipboard, you can click the right mouse button in the comment box to get the menu with “paste”. (note that copy is there also, so 3 ways exsit for doing copy and paste) try them all, and you will find your own preferences. ok you can all have a laugh at my expense. I have known how do to this for a very long time, but when I pasted to the comment box, it never was in blue……….so I figured I was doing something wrong! Tonight I just hit submit to see and voila………… being blonde is tough sometimes!

  81. southerntragedy on June 23rd, 2007 at 7:16 pm

Gee, it looks like y’all have been having fun while I was at work. sigh….

Wino, hope you are enjoying your well deserved vacation! I’m heading out in the morning to go to my boss’ lakehouse. I’ll be back Monday night. I need to pack. Alcohol? check..Toothbrush? check…bathing suit? check…I’m done!

AM: There are a few others here that we need to get a policy on! You don’t have to be married to be listed as a beneficiary! :)

I have one thing to say about Nancy Pelosi. That is, she is one of the most DELETED

  82. american woman on June 23rd, 2007 at 7:23 pm

ST have a spectacular time and drink one for me!

  83. southerntragedy on June 23rd, 2007 at 7:32 pm

You have to wonder how Squeer found that video and why is he watching it?

Where did bigjolly find a picture of the “young” version of Squeerk.

  86. ShinerBlonde on June 23rd, 2007 at 7:38 pm

TESTING! I just viewed the source code for a couple of LST pages and think maybe I have figured out how to put quotes in boxes so this is my test run.

Sorry man but I hate to disappoint you but that ain’t me. Hair is too short.

  88. Elizabeth on June 23rd, 2007 at 7:41 pm

ST - you have any B&B pickles this year? I got a finger taste of your jam at another Ha Ha event and it was to die for, but me lubs B&B pickles. Got any? Huh? Huh? Huh?

  89. ShinerBlonde on June 23rd, 2007 at 7:42 pm

Hmmmm, that didn’t work. Maybe this will.

    Maresy doats and doesy doats

  90. Elizabeth on June 23rd, 2007 at 7:47 pm

Shiner, every time I try to explain it I end up just putting the explanation in a box, which makes it all clear as mud for the questioner.

Far greater analytical minds abound here who can do a better job for you. (They showed me and if I can do it anyone can.) The blue word thingie darn near drove me nuts…

  91. ShinerBlonde on June 23rd, 2007 at 7:48 pm

YESSSSS! Who says an old dog can’t teach herself a new trick?

  92. Elizabeth on June 23rd, 2007 at 7:50 pm

Yea! you did it! Now it is mandatory you to the Happy Snoopy Dance around the house.

  93. ShinerBlonde on June 23rd, 2007 at 7:50 pm

Thanks, Elizabeth. But I finally figured it out all by myself. (My geek son would be SO proud of me!)

  94. Elizabeth on June 23rd, 2007 at 7:51 pm

um - that would be “do”

  95. Aggie_daddy68 on June 23rd, 2007 at 7:52 pm

Looks like Nifong is on his way to getting his just rewards (a little slammer time).

    NOW, how about Ronnie Earle?

  96. ShinerBlonde on June 23rd, 2007 at 7:54 pm

LOL! The Happy Snoopy Dance, eh? Will the a John Cleese silly walk work as well?

Now I am curious as to what other secret HTML code words will work here but I dare not start experimenting TOO much or I fear HAL might become disgruntled.

  97. american woman on June 23rd, 2007 at 7:58 pm

LOL shiner, Wheeeeeeeeee we are women of internet savy lol. Does the happy dance. Ronnie Earle needs to be in prison.

That was an excellent post for # 100!

  103. american woman on June 23rd, 2007 at 8:08 pm

Wheel reinvention is only done by liberal left wing twits. They hate the original wheel that turns feely and want a controlled spin. Thanks Marc for all your help :)

  104. sunny on June 23rd, 2007 at 8:12 pm

#101…Damn! Now you tell me, Marc! I’ve the whole morning inventing the wheel!

  105. Squawkbox Noise on June 23rd, 2007 at 8:14 pm

    Hal STAYS disgruntled…

Does not one have to be “gruntled” before they become “disgruntled”? Then what is being “gruntled”? Sounds like a condition that one might need a laxative.

  119. Jaime on June 23rd, 2007 at 9:08 pm

    Squaw:

You are right. We are a bunch of hysterical fearmongers. Or do you confuse us with the current administration?

Let the Feds continue their expansion of unconstitutional power grabs. It is all in our imagination.

I’ll make sure that I burn myself before I warn others about the danger of fires.

I guess LST will not be blogging on the imaginary Federal usurpations.

As to what I can/cannot do today that I was able to do before? I live a boring life. I go to work, I return home. No money to do much anything else.

I cannot tell you whether I a FISA search warrant was executed on me. Nor I could be told about it by a third party.

I guess you would have been a Tory.

  120. Smacktle on June 23rd, 2007 at 9:11 pm

No money to do much anything else.

You must work for the government.

  121. hamous on June 23rd, 2007 at 9:14 pm

Jaime, I think Squawk asked a legitimate question. What could you do before 9/11 and the ensuing wars that you can no longer do? Have you been conversing with known terrorists living outside the US? Then you most likely haven’t been the subject of a FISA search warrant. Hard as hell to prove a point with the absence of evidence.

ANOTHER idiot holyweird libtard who thinks Communism is cool.

Cameron Diaz wears a Mao bag to Peru. Peru suffered 70,000 deaths in the 1980’s and 1990’s from Shining Path, which was a Maoist Communist uprising.

Why do libtards think Communism is cool?

  126. emmekelley on June 23rd, 2007 at 9:27 pm

Wow, I have really missed out on everything today. Not really, because my granddaughter had her 4th birthday party today and God gave us a window of no rain during the party from 10:30 to 2:00 and then the sky opened up after that. I am glad that everyone is good, on this day that God has given to us. Just a small sample of her playing at the water park.

That photo has traumatized me for at least an hour. It doesn’t help matters having the AC go out here at the house and the AC man cannot fix it till Tuesday which will cost starting at $1900. Boy is it hot during the day.

Feel secure in my own house that it won’t be taken away from me and given to someone else to develop into a better tax payer for the powers that be.

I know that’s Kelo, but it’s one of the usurpations. Check out the following link. It is a clear violation, and unchecked.

Kelo fulfills Thomas’ and O’Connor’s predictions

Or is the loss of the right to be secure in one’s property one of those rights that we can feel good about losing?

  128. Wino on June 23rd, 2007 at 9:30 pm

    Squawk, Hamous,

While this is not a direct comparison, nobody has driven one of my trucks through a red light camera. Yet. I think Jaime is not waiting for the ticket before objecting to the way he can be fined.

Or a more direct example to what one cannot do now before the wars, get through the airport on time and with dignity.

Yeah silly me lets not let our government screen people at the airport cause someone may lose their dignity, let’s make sure the government cannot listen to IDENTIFIED suspects to possibly preclude an attack. Yeah you folks are r
