Looks like the fix is in for the passage of the amnesty bill. Enough rinos will vote for it to pass cloture with those needing hiding space -cronyn and hutch to hide- so future elections won’t be a problem.

Similarly this is what happened with the goodhair/spanish highway system. The state legislature voted against the bill or a two year moratorium but gave it to goodhair so he could veto it with absolutely no chance of the legislature having to override his veto. This way they all got to keep the funding kickback from the spanish/american company contributions and got to hide from angry voters. As they did vote to delay it but goodhair vetoed the bill which is what was intended from the get go. darth and cradick got there contributions and help delay the bill so that it would arrive to late where goodhair would have to veto it and they would have to vote to override the veto or face the anger of voters.

goodhair is now going to come around like a dog with his tail between his legs pretending to be honest and straight forward while he plants his next lies to get elected senator when gutless hutch decides to run for governor.

This was all planned out before any of it hit the Legislative floors. VIVA MEXAS, AMEXIA and long live the AMERO.

I’m with you… both situations are a fix, and they “nay” votes are just cover. I’m not going to vote for any of them; Perry, Cronyism, or Hutchison. They’re all a bunch of RINO’s.

If and only if the cloture vote fails will I reconsider voting for them.

  15. hamous on June 26th, 2007 at 8:48 am

NHT - From start to finish, Cornyn has been strongly and vocally against this bill. He’s held numerous press conferences explaining why it’s bad. He’s tried to convince other Senators to vote against it, with some success. Him, Sessions, and DeMint have been the only bright lights in this cave of amnesty. He even got wishy-washy Hutchinson to join him. What more can he do to convince you of his sincerity?

  16. hamous on June 26th, 2007 at 8:52 am

Hey, but the world can rest easier. Our long national nightmare is now over. Paris is free at last! ;-)

  17. hamous on June 26th, 2007 at 8:54 am

Same question to you too, Wino. Seems like you’re putting Cornyn in a no-win situation. If he votes for cloture he’s for amnesty. If he votes against cloture he’s in on the scam.

  18. Wino on June 26th, 2007 at 9:02 am

    Hamous,

OK, on Cornyn and his immigration stance. I agree with that. I didn’t vote for him last time, either, because I don’t think he has our interests at heart. I will probably vote for him if he can get the cloture vote to fail. He’s got the chance to WIN my vote. Hutch has a chance, too, but her chance is much slimmer than his.

Perry, though, is a toad, and couldn’t get my vote if he were to give me a Lewinsky personally every day for a month before the election.

With all the serious issues that we have to deal with in life, I like Pat Gray because I smile at his jokes and light hearted nature. I believe, that if you constantly are serious about ALL the issues and never smile, the depression will set in and become overwhelming. My opinion is lighten up and get a life with a little humor in it. Besides if you want the news LST is world class and will give you all the news you need along with a few other web sites. ;)

  20. No Higher Tax on June 26th, 2007 at 9:08 am

I agree with Wino on everything except the Lewinsky - no Thanks. I am probably wrong but with all the sleezy tactics the rinos use to pass legislation I just don’t trust any of them - VOTE AGAINST ALL INCUMBENTS. I have to give my state rep. and senator credit as they did vote the way they said they were.

  27. NAT PIERCE on June 26th, 2007 at 9:17 am

Emotionally I would like to see Cornyn go in like Lyndon and twist off some arms, rationally that would be counter productive. Cornyn is a strong influence in our favor.

    From Michelle Malkin:

Senators Cornyn, Dole, DeMint, Vitter, Sessions write Senator Reid on “Unprecidented floor proceedure…” the letter was posted last night at MM’s page.

    Reid’s response http://reid.senate.gov/newsroom/record.cfm?id=277754
Names: Senators including _itch McConnell, Jon Kyl and Orlon Specter, requesting “cherry picking”.

If it were not for the Pubby lapdog lackeys to American dissolution, this bill would be dead.

NHT & Wino - I think we all have a right to be suspicious of our politicians’ motives. But on this immigration bill Cornyn has really not been on the wrong side. I have many other issues with him, just not on this one. In the case of KBH, I think NHT’s assessment is probably correct. Her vote is a classic CYA move and her vote is probably a direct result of the outrage from her constituents. I guess the only bright spot with her is she seems to be listening to us.

There are also several hurdles before the bill gets out of the Senate. Cloture is just one. Just like round one, I give it a 50/50 chance in the Senate and no chance of agreement with the House.

See DeMint’s quote on hotair.com… he says the obvious:

Another bad sign for the amnesty bill:

Two conservative Republicans, once part of the intense, monthslong bipartisan negotiations that crafted the bill, have already jumped ship. Georgia Sens. Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson took a lot of heat back home just for working with supporters, with Chambliss getting booed at a state Republican Party convention in May.

“Everybody did a noble job of dealing with a difficult problem in a noble way,” Isakson said. But the members did not take into account “public confidence … It’s just not there.”

These are two republicans that were strongly supporting it but have changed their minds after listening to the outrage of their constituents.

per mmdotcom - 10:54am.EST John Cornyn is up. (Rough transcipt) — I’ve argued that the current bill sets up the DHS for failure because it requires them to grant approval of Z visa applications for full travel/work authorization within 24 hours even if background check not complete. Cornyn attacks White House for calling that “mythology.” Cornyn quotes the bill. White House is not telling the truth. “My concern is the gulf between the promise being made to the American people and the likelihood that the prommise will be carried out.” Why…has nothing been done about 600,000-plus absconders already? Can they build exit system? Can they process 12 million applicants? Can they detain those caught on the border?

well the democrats have won! lets vote for them so they get full credit on the impending depression. this congress both parties and bothe houses have let the corpoate special interests take over our government (mcain fiengold).

by voting the democrats in office we as conservatives will be in control for many years. a republican was elected president in 1952 after the great depression in the late 1920’s.

if our great demoghrapher from texas harry dent is correct in the timing of this depression coming up in 2009 - 2011 timeframe the republicans would be in control for many yeara.

i am old enough to remember this country in the 1950’s and it was much more conservative back then than we would recognize now. what a shame it has turned out to be our great USA - indeed!

Take a short break from the poly-ticks:
Since I’m originally from Arkansas I get a pass on this:

A guy from Arkansas passed away and left his entire estate to his beloved widow, but she can’t touch it till she’s 14.

How do you know when you’re staying in an Arkansas hotel? When you call the front desk and say, “I got a leak in my sink,” and the clerk replies, “Go ahead.”

How can you tell if an Arkansas redneck is married? There’s dried tobacco juice on both sides of his pickup truck.

Did you hear that they have raised the minimum drinking age in Arkansas to 32? It seems they want to keep alcohol out of the high schools.

What do they call reruns of “Hee Haw” in Arkansas .Documentaries.

An Arkansas State trooper pulls over a pickup on I-30 and says to the driver, “Got any I. D.?” and the driver replies ” ‘Bout wut?”

Did you hear about the $3 million Arkansas State Lottery? The winner gets $3.00 a year for a million years.

The governor’s mansion in Arkansas burned down! Yep. Pert’ near took out the whole trailer park. The library was a total loss too. Both books –poof! up in flames, and he hadn’t even finished coloring one of them.

A new law was recently passed in Arkansas .. When a couple gets divorced, they are STILL cousins.

A guy walks into a bar in Arkansas and orders a mudslide. The bartender looks at the man and says, “You ain’t from ’round here, are ya? “No,” replies the man, “I’m from Pennsylvania.” The bartender looks at him and says, “Well, what do you do in Pennsylvania?” “I’m a taxidermist,” said the man. The bartender, looking very bewildered now asks, “What in the world is a tax-e-derm-ist?” The man says, “I mount animals.” The bartender stands back and hollers to the whole bar… “It’s okay boys, he’s one of us!”

I agree with you. My disgust and anger lies in knowing other conservatives won’t be so forward-thinking or patient. This is going to cost conservatism dearly and where we will feel it the most is in the judiciary. Just remember every time a terrible ruling is unleashed from the bench, it is almost always the legacy of Carter or Clinton.

The SCOTUS issued three 5 to 4 rulings this week which favored conservative philosophy. The only reason we got those is because GWB appointed Roberts and Alito. There are several leftist judges who should be retiring now, but they are waiting in hopes a Democrat will be elected in ‘08. When these presidents and senators are long gone from DC, the most abiding and persistent legacy they leave are the judges they get on the bench.

Forward thinking patience got me a President who believes in amnesty and sending money to Fatah. No thanks.

Not saying I don’t believe in any Republicans. I’m just saying the predominant mentality in the party is anything but conservative lately. Credit is due Cornyn and Hutchison. I’ll take it for what it’s worth.

  87. Elizabeth on June 26th, 2007 at 2:26 pm

I’ve always heard the phrase, “card carrying Republican”, so I would imagine if there was such thing as registered single party voters in this state, they would be issued cards identifying them as such. No? Dad voted strraight ticket Republican always, and he didn’t have a card.

  88. Squawkbox Noise on June 26th, 2007 at 2:37 pm

Whoohoo I feel vindicated in a bad sort of way.

I see a whole bunch of “You gotta vote republican” screamers changing their tune to ‘OMG what have I done?” I hate to say I told you so…

    BUT

    I told you so.

    #86 Dude

It was not forward thinking that got us George Bush. It was, in fact, that he was most electable and, unfortunately, in a democracy we often have to roll the dice in that way. I voted for Bush fully aware of his position on immigration, as I have written here before. I just hoped and prayed he wouldn’t do what he has done. As much as you and others want to believe third parties are a viable alternative in an American democratic republic, they never have been and never will be. If I thought a third party had a chance in hell, I would drop everything I am doing to help create it.

My philosophy is if you can keep a president, or any other politician, from doing too much damage, cut taxes a little and at least get some decent judges, you’ve already accomplished alot. I invest very little personally in candidates and distrust them explicitly. My expectations are lower than most folks.

  91. texpat on June 26th, 2007 at 2:46 pm

If anyone has a credible, realistic plan for creating a truly functioning third party with the numbers and organization to be contenders in national elections, I’d love to see it.

My Austin County grandmother always told me, when I was a teenager, to stay out of Waller County and, particularly, Hempstead. She said if they didn’t like you over there, the sheriff would make you disappear.

  99. The Dude on June 26th, 2007 at 3:15 pm

That was good Nat. It cuts right to the chase with respect to why I haven’t and/or wouldn’t hesitate to vote third party. You can say that a third party doesn’t stand a snowball’s chance in hell and be correct. You can also say what Nat said in #94 and be correct. One should never hesitate to vote for someone rather than against someone regardless of the prevailing wisdom of the viability of a third party.

The old priest lay dying in the hospital. For years he had faithfully served the people of the nation’s capital. He motioned for his nurse to come near.

    “Yes, Father?” asked the nurse.

“I would really like to see Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton before I die,” whispered the priest.

“I’ll see what I can do, Father” replied the nurse.

The nurse sent the request to the Senate and waited for a response. Soon the word arrived. Kennedy and Clinton would be delighted to visit the priest.

As they went to the hospital, Clinton commented to Kennedy “I don’t know why the old priest wants to see us, but it will certainly help our images.”
    Kennedy couldn’t help but agree.

When they arrived at the priest’s room, the priest took Kennedy’s hand in his right hand and Clinton’s hand in his left. There was silence and a look of serenity on the old priest’s face.

Finally Senator Kennedy spoke. “Father, of all the people you could have chosen, why did you choose us to be with you as you near the end?”

The old priest slowly replied “I have always tried to pattern my life after our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

    “Amen” said Kennedy.

    “Amen” said Clinton.

The old priest continued…”He died between two lying thieves. I would like to do the same.”

If anyone has a credible, realistic plan for electing a truly conservative Republican

It is quite simple really and now is the time to do it.

    YOU DEMAND IT

You contact EVERY conservative organization from your local Republican chair throught the local Republican Party right up through the National Level. You contact every “candidate” out there and tell them what you want.

Do not settle for second best. The politicians we elect will rise only to the level we demand. Not to mention that they will also turn us into there personal little serfs. But that is for another discussion.

BTW Texpat, I didn’t vote for GWB in an uninformed fashion either. I voted for him because I thought him a better alternative to either Gore or Kerry. That opinion hasn’t changed. For all his flaws, I do consider GWB a better president than either Gore or Kerry would have been. Regardless of that, I still regret not exploring the third party options more thoroughly. I basically made the mistake of voting against someone rather than for someone. If the consequence of voting for someone is getting a Democrat in office, I find that consequence no less tolerable than having a liberal Republican has turned out to be.

I posted this in the other thread but I feel it worthy of a repost here:

Here’s a perfect example of why we’re going to get amnesty:

Go to http://www.cnn.com, the lead story is wrestler Chris Benoit killing himself and his family.

Go to http://www.msnbc.com, the lead story is the number of people hitting the road for the 4th of July weekend.

Go to http://www.foxnews.com, the lead story is Benoit, and another feature story on a woman who was a sex slave.

Only Drudge is reporting today’s vote as the biggest news in our nation.

The media and the government and big business have been brainwashing Americans for years and they’re done a fine job. Now they can get anything they want.

  108. Squawkbox Noise on June 26th, 2007 at 3:31 pm

But here is what I see happening. Everyone is all ticked off now and “really” letting there reps know how they feel. The dialog between the voters and our elected politicians is actually expanding right now, believe it or not.

What will happen no matter what is the American’s will stop talking to there representatives as soon as this is all “settled”.

This dialog must be kept going.

  109. american woman on June 26th, 2007 at 3:33 pm

Hamous, with cloture, I belive philibuster is not allowed. Abreviated speeches are allowed for the ammendments, then a vote. When this passes, the house gets it and they control spending. They are able to buy votes. They also can delete all the nice ammendments our ego driven senators added. I’m just about ready to bet we have an amnesty bill within the next two weeks. Goodbye America. I don’t have a link, but heard on talk radio today that a huge banner was erected at the soccer finals in Chicago. It read Soldiers Field Mexico.

As much as I agree with you, I think you’re cursing human nature. As a hypothetical analogy, consider how you would relate to your boss at work. Would you speak with your boss more passionately and more often about your job performance or about the mandatory (yet forgettable) ISO meeting last week? People come unglued at the things they perceive will affect them the most.

There is no party affiliation tie-in with voter registration in Texas. Here’s the form:

    http://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/forms/vr17.pdf

The only time party affiliation comes into play is in the primaries. You can only vote on one party’s primary but anyone can vote in any party’s primary. That’s why they stamp your card “Voted in Republican (or Democratic) Primary”.

Hannity has been interviewing Senators who voted for cloture.

It seems that some Senators want the debate to put a spotlight on the bad parts, such as amnesty, so that they can pick up the 39 votes they need to kill it on Thursday.

I am actually pointing out human nature not cursing it.

And by what our founders established the gubment is not my boss. I am theirs. And having been the boss at various times during working career I believe in the old adage of “my way or the highway” divided by “there are people standing in line for your job” whenever I needed to play those cards.

“WE THE PEOPLE” have abdicated our duties to monitor our elected officials.

  124. Elizabeth on June 26th, 2007 at 4:07 pm

#114 Dude, Will add to that - People become unglued when they believe they have become forced to be placed in a powerless situation. (And almost always they are more angry at themselves than anyone else for allowing it.)

  125. texpat on June 26th, 2007 at 4:15 pm

Shakey got me curious, so I looked at the following websites for Senate Immigration Bill headlines:

Google News - Middle of the Page
Yahoo News - Top of the Page

Headline - Top Of The Page or Top Breaking News:

    Houston Chronicle
    New York Times
    LA Times
    Miami Herald
    Chicago Tribune

Absolutely No Mention At All On Front Page:

    Dallas Morning News
    Boston Globe
    San Diego Union

Go figure ! The American people are more fired up, passionate and engaged on this subject than anything in a long time. And the MSM wonder why people are so hostile or, at best, indifferent to them.

the real problem she thinks about education is the way the mandates come down from the feds and the state plus the lawsuit mentality the districts have adopted.

she could not even get parents to sign an assignment folder she would send home each night for them to do their homework. my wife was pretty sharp she graduate with a masters at 21 and retired at 51.
