Don’t know how credible this story is, but I found interesting~

A US Mayor obsessed over gadgets has quit a line queuing for a new Apple iPhone after a local asked him about the city’s murder rate in Philadelphia.

Mayor John F. Street abruptly ended his wait in line for an iPhone Friday after a passer-by asked him, “How can you sit here with 200 murders in the city already?” The Philadelphia Inquirer reported on its Web site.

Street told the man: “I’m doing my job,”

    http://www.smarthouse.com.au/Phones/Mobile/E4W7D3R7

Several young entrepreneurs sought to make a quick buck off the launch of the iPhone, which goes on sale for up to $600 at 6 p.m. local time in U.S. cities.

“Buy my spot for $5000 and get my chair,” read a sign Imran Khan, 27, had pinned to his shirt while waiting on line in New York. Khan said he had received an offer of $4,500 on Friday morning but turned it down.

Hmmm, wonder if he received $5000 or nothing….

Have a great day to all, and thank-you Squawk!
BTW: Who moderated the moderator in yesterday’s OC #144? :)

Watched Die Hard last night on DVD. Never thought I’d get sentimental about the 80’s. Geez, it was actually kind of nice… almost innocent somehow…

No muslims terrorists, no airport security strip-downs for my 89-year-old WW2 hero Grandfather…, no b.Clinton, no h.Clinton, 74 cents a gallon gas in one of the scenes by a gas station, no idiots lined up around the block for a $600 iphone…

My Dad says the 50’s were a less-complicated time. Well, now the 80’s seem like a less-complicated time to me… Is it possible THIS will someday seem like a less-compicated time? I don’t see how it could….

Maybe it’s good not to live forever… We all have our times we belong in…

Mr Romney said the row was a fuss about nothing. Seamus enjoyed being on the roof, he said. “He scrambled up there every time we went on trips.”

I’ve owned a Lab, a mixed Weimarauner/Doberman, a German Shepherd, and a Rottweiler. Not one of them ever loved getting up on the roof of a car. Nat’s right, it’s more than odd.

  10. TalkinTexas.com on June 30th, 2007 at 9:11 am

Why are your property taxes so high? Everyone pays their fair share, right?

What would you think about 136 families in your neighborhood that use the schools, county services, county hospitals, EMS services, etc. but pay nothing for them, not even any MUD taxes. Well that is exactly what is going on in our area.

The Kressington Place Apartments at 7203 Oakwood Glen Blvd. pays no property taxes, 136 units paying zero in taxes while collecting between $647.00 for a one bedroom to $802.00 for a 2 bedroom unit per month. Each one of us are not only paying our taxes but also a portion of theirs.

I got to buy me a business where my property appreciates while I collect rent money and pay no property taxes. Are we just suckers for taking this and doing nothing.

Check it out for yourself, go to http://www.hcad.org search by their address, every single unit has their own tax bill on line and every one pays Z E R O. Enter the search as 7203 Oakwood Glen. If we protest our taxes can we use this property as an example to reduce our bill??

But is that all? NO. I have been told, and my source is good you also pay part of their rent, their food, medical costs, most likely part of their electric and gas and do not forget that great State of Texas program where we also pay to fix their vehicles if they cannot pass inspection. I wonder if there are any illegal immigrants living there, I see many day laborers hanging out nearby. I am sure they would not be receiving any government money, they are just here to do the jobs we won’t.

How much money are they sending back home while sucking us dry?? We must continue to clean up this mess.

  11. hamous on June 30th, 2007 at 9:25 am

I had a Lab that rode in the back of my truck. His favorite spot was to stand with his front paws up on the front of the bed with his head above the cab, especially driving down the highway at 70+ mph. He wasn’t tied up there. He jumped up there of his own volition every single time he got in the truck. Romney’s story doesn’t sound that far fetched to me.

  12. american woman on June 30th, 2007 at 9:25 am

How do we clean up this mess? What is the action for Kressington Place? Who owns it? I understand burning up the phone lines for immigration. Who do we go after for this kind of wrong? Do we contact the TV stations that do expose’ writing to look into this?

  13. Rastus on June 30th, 2007 at 9:31 am

Well, I hate to bring this up again, but that damn weather machine of Karl Rove’s that is being loaned out to Governor Goodhead is really creating flooding problems in the hill country. They’ve relocated it down there somewhere around San Saba, and they are trying to get it focused to clear the path for the Trans Texas Corridor, but it is so powerful that even the least little miscalculation can have devastating results. Let’s hope that they get it straightened out soon so that only the TTC right of way is getting flooded out and not half of Texas. Now logically, if you just lost most of your political base for failure to supervise and control the border, what easier remedy than merely have some rain in the Rio Grande flood plain, swell the river, and presto - no illegals crossing. Since they chose to flood the hill country instead, it remains apparent to me that the immigration deal is still not over and the TTC is still moving ahead. I’ll have more on this subject as it becomes available.

The article on FOX News about Mexico wanting it’s land back after 120 some odd years is very interesting. Apparently, a border was put up on part of their property in New Mexico. Go figure. Those zealous Mexicans.

  16. headshaker on June 30th, 2007 at 9:44 am

What does everyone think about this theory?

PHILADELPHIA — Baltimore, Philadelphia and other cities in a bloodstained corridor along the East Coast are seeing a surge in killings, and one of the most provocative explanations offered by criminal-justice experts is this: not enough new immigrants.

The theory holds that waves of hardworking, ambitious immigrants reinvigorate desperately poor black and Hispanic neighborhoods and help keep crime down.

It is a theory that runs counter to the widely held notion that immigrants are a source of crime and disorder.

“New York, Los Angeles, they’re seeing massive immigration — the transformation, really, of their cities from populations around the world,” said Harvard sociologist Robert Sampson. “These are people selecting to go into a country to get ahead, so they’re likely to be working hard and stay out of trouble.”

It is only a partial explanation for the bloodshed over the past few years in a corridor that also includes Newark, N.J., and Boston, but not New York City.

Read the whole article, it’s interesting:

    #11 Hamsta,

Every one of those dogs I mentioned loved to ride in the back of a pickup as well. They didn’t get up on the roof to be strapped down like a piece of luggage. I agree that this is a pretty silly thing for Dems to attack Romney with, especially given how long ago it was.

It does show a major weakness we show as conservatives though. We need to be more willing to make mountains of their molehills, yet do it in a manner that doesn’t make us seem petty or crude. Staying “above the fray” and “building bridges” is not working too well. It’s time to come out of the corner swinging, and Romney just isn’t our fighter.

  21. malcolm on June 30th, 2007 at 10:10 am

What’s a few feet either way? Right?

If it’s estimated to take $3,000,000 to fix the fence location that means we can probably double that in actuality to take care of the paypoffs and unknowns that will pop up during the re-alignment. I have never known one of these gubmint projects to come in under budget. Anyone remember the $100 toilet seats and $10 screws back when?

#10 talkin yea i protested mine this last week and could not get a straight answer out of the board on how the appraisal is calculated.

I was there all morning as I was the last one in thatsession and the board would give many different reasons why they could not lower them but could not give explanations on where I could find the rules. Many times the explanations that were given were contradictory to previous cases - that was really funny.

I dont know what they will do when the sub-prime foreclosure debackel kicks in. hopefully they get inundated with property to foreclose on for taxrs or the banks holding the loans sell them at deep discounts and that lowers everyones taxes.

I am about 125k underappraised and all I did was ask them how it was calculated and they immediately offered me 17,500 off the appraisal. It sure is a funny duck procedure!

$3,000,000 to fix a fence a few feet on Mexican soil in the middle of nowhere.

Why not just give them another parcel of equal value (you know, another $500 parcel somewhere else)?

Or better yet, let’s start billing Mexico for all the things the USA is paying for on their behalf (and I’m not even talking about illegals).

The USA has become one giant SUPERPUSSYCAT.

    # 12, the only solution I know is duplicating the same method we used to run Jersey, small groups responsible for their own neighborhoods. Web sites such as this one and others plus talk radio are used to share ideas and information. Joining together for a one day protest or burning the phone lines and emails is great but that is what they expect from us, and they know we will then return back to our everyday lives. We have to scare them and prove we are in it for the long run. We have to organize and work together to clean up the areas around our homes, only then will our elected representatives take us seriously. I cannot join the chorus of those who rushed out and thanked our elected reps. For voting against the immigration bill. As Pat Gray stated Friday on KSEV we did have to drag them kicking and screaming to get the right vote. Then I am expected to thank them, sorry a swift kick in the butt is what they deserve. I am an Italian from Jersey, you want my respect you need to earn it. I do not take kindly to those who try to jerk me around.

How many apartment complexes like this are in your neighborhood that are not paying any taxes?

Do you remember the raids last month along Stuebner Airline? Well guess what the day laborers were back the next day, so what did that accomplish?? We demand that our government punish employers for hiring illegal immigrants while we allow the same government to give our money to the same illegal’s. We allow our government to support Casa Juan Diego, an organization that hides illegal’s. It is not the fault of the illegal’s, it is our fault for allowing our government to create this problem. So when will we have enough and organize to change the situation?

I, along with other individuals, are planning to hold a meeting next month in the Champions area, it will be around the Stuebner-Airline & Louetta area. We want to organize a group and clean up the problems in our neighborhood. I will be posting more information on my web site and I know of others who are thinking about forming a group on the west side of town. We can continue to call the radio stations and write on the blogs but if that is the best we can do then we have lost this battle.

#23, I have never protested my taxes, I do not accept the ludicrous idea that it is my responsibility to prove what the actual value of my home is. We should be demanding the burden of proof is on them to prove the value. They treat us as the rat and we happily run around the maze to their enjoyment. When will we start demanding government treat us as the master and they act as the servant, instead of playing their crazy games? Until we start demanding better behavior we get what we deserve.

  42. Elizabeth on June 30th, 2007 at 1:53 pm

I forget the name of the town, Sarge will know, but we went a good distance because by the time I could find a motel/hotel that would take pets everything remotely near Sealy, Bellville, etc., had been booked solid.
We also timed it right and left after most everyone else had. Saw people stranded and out of gas on the road side until we passed Bellville and the roads opened up about an hour after that.
We also returned before most everyone else did.
Not doing that again. We invested heavily in emergency preparations to stick it out here no matter what next time, even if it means 4 dogs, 4 cats and 2 grouchy old people in a concrete pump shed.

  43. american woman on June 30th, 2007 at 1:59 pm

Sounds pretty good to me Elizabeth. My block here in Cypress decided to stay. We had provisions, and do a lot of things as a group here. Your concrete pump shed will be a happening place!

We can’t be certain they haven’t crashed since, but there have been reports of other crashes over the years.

Also, we don’t know how often we’ve been visited an how long it takes for them to get here.

The bottom line is that there’s overwhelming evidence to support the Roswell incident as an alien spacecraft crashing.

The alien thing is simple. They arent on out time. If they landed here 40 years ago and came back today it might only be a month on their time. Dick Cheney is one. They could also vibrate at a different frequency than us. They could be here and we dont see them with our primitive eyes. Ever felt like someone was in the room or watching you and no one was there? Hmmm.

  56. Squawkbox on June 30th, 2007 at 4:31 pm

    Thanks Shake Herder.

I knew you would enjoy the tongue in cheekiness.

Actually I do not discount the possibility. I do not argue the “evidence” I prefer to ask why not.

Alien stuff is one of those areas of controversy that I have not found anything to disprove the possibility, but then again not prove it either. So I indulge my indecision by asking why not? Actually I don’t spend a lot of time dwelling on it.

Wow did you see that? I am actually in the middle of the road on something. There goes what little credibility I had left in any discussion on any subject.

  57. american woman on June 30th, 2007 at 4:41 pm

I’m with you Squawk, maybe, maybe not, I don’t think about it. Some possible aliens…….. Tiny Tim…… rest his soul or maybe no soul ( alien)…..Harry Reid….. personally I think he was kicked off his planet. Madeline Albright, Jocelyn Elders and Janet Reno, all from the same planet. Last but not least, Al Gore, he has the inside scoop of Global warming due to his infrared eyesight abilities.

  58. Elizabeth on June 30th, 2007 at 5:31 pm

I don’t buy the space alien thing. If there is a species out there advanced enough to get here and zip around undetected for the most part, they are also advanced enough to obliterate us or at the very least not be threatened by us silly earthlings and need to hide from us.
Now manifestations from departed benevolent spirits on this realm is a whole
    nuther story….

  59. texpat on June 30th, 2007 at 5:32 pm

Maybe this is how the aliens got here:

” Sixty miles up, you sit in a chair on the open deck of a small rocket, admiring the stars above, the Earth far, far below. The vacuum beyond your visor is cold, but it would boil your blood if your pressure suit failed. ”

    and then…

” You breathe deeply and leap, somersaulting into the void. The mother planet is gorgeous from up here. You barely perceive that it’s rushing up toward you, and your body relaxes. You streak into the atmosphere at 2,500 miles an hour, faster than anyone’s ever gone without a vehicle. ”

    This is real skydiving, folks:

Exactly; the majority of humans are not that intelligent. Smarter than primates, but not by much.

Martial law, alien invasion, and Planet of the Apes. Take your pick.

  66. gregg on June 30th, 2007 at 7:13 pm

Humans are DA’s. Aliens are flying around the universe and we are drilling holes in the ground and pumping up oil to burn in our piston driven cars. Bright ones we are.

And to top that off, one group runs around in tablecloths chopping off other humans heads.

  67. Elizabeth on June 30th, 2007 at 7:26 pm

Betcha they are smart enough so that the alien men don’t wear suits and ties, and the alien women don’t wear pantie hose and stiletto heels either. Hopefully they are more advanced than such fashion torture.

    1. Agreed, there is a lot of difference between strapping the dog and strapping an animal carrier to the roof. If it was a carrier, how did the dog mess up the second car’s windshield?

the science goes something like this:

    1. Dog poops in cage.
    2. Wind gneerated by traveling at in excess of 40 MPH blows poop out of cage.
    3. Poop is breifly airborne until gravity and friction takes over. It’s flight can be described as a parabola.
    4. At some point, the windshield of the car behind enters the arc described by the prabola.
    5. Flight opf poop is ended dramitcally, emphatically, and with despatch.

Besides, the story I read said nothing about the car behind. I mentioned only that romney cleaned up the poop from off the roof of his car.

I’ll continue to chew on the idea in the back of my mind as I hope both of you will do.

We now are subject to a lesson in the aerodynamic qualities inherently found in flying dog poop?

Geeeez, this was way back when we, the humans, didn’t have to wear seatbelts, our parents smoked in the car with the windows rolled up…AND, we drank from a waterhose, had lawn darts, P.E. in school, and my personal favorite, the wood burning tool with the 6 inch cord.

Is there a statute of limitations for strapping your dog in a kennel on top of a car? Was there even a LAW against it back then?

(and I’ll add, is there a law against it now?)

I let my dog hang out the window back then, and when I turned left, the dang dog flew out the window. I rung his bell, but he was o.k. At least Mitt Romney’s dog was in a kennel. Are you gonna file charges on littl’ ol’ me, now? Are you gonna condemn me now?

For those of you who know what a freakin’ animal lover I am, IT WAS THE 80’s!! Times were different! I wrecked my truck when I swerved to miss a racoon and hit a tree. It was the only time I heard my daddy launch the F-bomb, and to hit it next time./crushing my soap box now, to send to the burn pile…

  73. The Dude on June 30th, 2007 at 8:55 pm

Was it a solid stool or was it more a liquid? That would definitely have an effect on the DOO DOO in question’s ability to become airborne. And what specifically did the dog eat to produce the POOPY? The composition would affect the density and, to a smaller extent, the surface area present on said CAH CAH. There are some really important details lacking that the good readers of Lone Star Times blog are entitled to know in order to have an informed and intelligent opinion on this most important matter.

    Re: ET’s.

Let’s assume that the universe is 5 billion years old. For the Biblical scholars out there, we’ll just assume that God’s calendar has days slightly longer than 24 hours to account for any temporal inaccuracies.

Let us also assume that it takes 50,000 years for a species to advance to the point for intergalactic flight to take place. We’re at the 35,000 year point now, so we’ve got another 15K to go before we get to the next neighborhood.

Let us also assume that it takes 35,000 years for a species to get to the point that it can obliterate itself and most of the other living beings in its biosphere.

One further assumption is that there are 1 million planets on which life can exist and grow to the point I’ve illustrated above. Between asteroids, comets, and self-annihilation, that gives us about a chance of 15000 times one million divided by 5 billion that we co-exist at the same time with a species capable of intergalactic flight.

Which means less than a one in three chance that there’s even another group out there… and they are probably no more advanced than we are.

People always forget that as big as the universe is, it all runs on the same time clock.

It sure does Mike, but it is happening because we allow it to. You can bet the residents of those apts. are receiving tons of our money in all forms of aid. I bet they even receive an income tax refund, which comes right out of our pockets. Everyone should pay some form of taxes no matter what you income is, but you certainly should never receive more money in the form of a refund then you pay into the system.

It will never change until we demand better. I will secure the building for our meeting and will post the date, it will most likely be held later in July, for those who are interested. There are a few of us who are fed up with all this crap and are willing to take action to change it. I will be posting some questions on the web site. I hope we can include Lone Star Times and KSEV as a partners to help spread the news.

I hope others will organize, we really have to strike while the iron is hot. We the people are the Big Lobby and have the power to make changes.

They might be, how many other apartments in our area are not paying any taxes? How many other familes are filling our schools with kids while not paying taxes? I own a business I may be poor perhaps I should reduce my income and have my home rated as low income to eliminate my taxes.

I can play the game also.

  101. dowjones25k on July 1st, 2007 at 6:37 am

199 talkin there is a certain number of housing types created by our govt i believe its section 208 property but not sure. thses type properties may pay no property taxes because of the property classification.

they are currently building this type property on fm1960 between perry and bobcat next to a kind of hispanic center on the south side of fm1960.

and talkin - what about that 500 million write off in property taxes for the enron buildings? wasnt that a great thing for the investors and us taxpayers?

This is a web site for part of the group that is involved in this scam, and its you and me!

    http://www.nhtinc.org

This group along with some other named GTEX,LLC. are sticking it to all of us. If you do a google search using NHTE GTEX LLC. you can read pdf documents where the state approves selling bonds, gives the money to these people to purchase and/or build ” affordable ” housing then and you pay for it!!

and look at the law firms and financial firms who pocket big fees for processing all this crap. And you pay for it, and you pay for the rent subsidies, the food and medical and insurance and schools etc. etc. They live off your sweat!

At this rate we cannot afford to take a day off, there are too many parasites sucking us dry.

The illegals arent’t the problem it is the lobbys that are sticking it to us. That is one of the reasons Dan ran, but unless we organize and keep up the pressure he will lose. That is why after some good conversations with him in the early days of his run for office I purchased thebiglobby.com because that is who we are. We just have to get the guts to act like it. And if we cannot get people involved within his Senate dist. 7 to fight with him he and we lose. There are many in the local party that are mad at the state leadership but noone cares enough to help clean up the problem. We will see how many show up at our meeting.

  107. BSue on July 1st, 2007 at 8:43 am

I need to know how someone in another city knew about the thread on here yesterday about the existence of aliens. They must exist because how else would you explain me getting the following email this morning.

    WOULD YOU BELIEVE THIS ???….
    HOW COINCIDENTAL………..

Many will recall that on July 8, 1947, witnesses claimed that an
unidentified object with five aliens aboard crashed onto a sheep and cattle
ranch just outside Roswell, New Mexico. This is a well-known incident that
many say has long been covered up by the U.S. Air Force and the federal
    government.

However, you may NOT know that in the month of March 1948, exactly nine
months after that historic day, Albert Arnold Gore, Jr., Hillary Rodham,
John F. Kerry, William Jefferson Clinton, Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi, Dianne
Feinstein, Charles E. Schumer, and Barbara Boxer were born.

See what happens when aliens breed with sheep? This piece of information may
clear up a lot of things.

I offer this, not as proof that any of the above were actually the progeny of aliens breeding with sheep (haven’t checked the birthdates - but doubt all were born in March of 1948) but as proof that there are aliens monitoring LST and they sent this message to let us all know they really do exist.

I’m off now to put another layer of tinfoil on my Alcoa Turban.

  108. american woman on July 1st, 2007 at 8:48 am

BSue thanks so much for the enlightenment. May I borrow your tinfoil when you are finished?

  109. BSue on July 1st, 2007 at 8:51 am

    108 AW
Sure. I’ve already debunked the birthdates - Hilary would have been premature (DOB 10/26/47), and Boxer would have been impossible (11/11/40) - I stopped checking after that… but Al Gore was born in March of 1948…. maybe there is some validity to the sheep thing :0)

#106-I believed not longer after he was elected dan organized a party\reception for a group of lobbyists , so I guess he is no different than the rest. Ialso can give you another example of how he is only in office for the publicity and maybe to raise the ratings of KSEV, which does need a lot of help in that area. A few months ago I was fortunate enough to be able to attend a banquet honoring law enforcement officers from Houston and the surrounding areas. Each jurisdiction(Houston Police, Harris County Police, Bellaire Police, Pasadena Police, etc., etc.,) nominated one person for officer of the year and they were recognized at this banquet. John Culberson and dan patrick were the keynote speakers. Culberson gave a short speech thanking the officers for their hard work and dedication. patrick spent a very short time thanking the officers, then went into a long winded speech about himself. He was going to save the state, he was the only senator looking out for the common man, etc., etc., . The banquet was not about him but I got the impression that he felt like honoring these officers was not important, but making a campaign speech was.

Dan Patrick was elected. Get over it. Your impressions of him mean bupkis to me.

Getting elected is one thing. If you district shop and have enough money, Mr. Ed could get elected. Tryin to be an effective Senator and actually do a good job is another. I don’t think he has the intellect or work ethic to do that. Paul Betten court has proven he can do that, and Edd Hendee definitely would have done a good job as a Senator, even though I disagee with his politics. Dan , however, is always going to be a demagouge and buffoon.

Did anyone watch Fox News Sunday this morning, especially about the Fairness Doctrine Act? Mark Green was talking outa both sides of his mouth. Typical liberal. He’s against the Government Fairness Doctrine Act, but wants the FCC to inforce the rule that both parties should get equal airtime. Huh?

  119. The Dude on July 1st, 2007 at 9:37 am

An important thing to remember about Gadboy is that he had no qualms about expressing (at this blog no less) the sentiment that if a woman is good looking enough it excuses stupidity on her part. That’s a pretty stunning confession from a self-professed liberal. Liberals are that group that accuse conservatives of being sexists, racists, and generally intolerant people just in case any of you have lost sight of that.

Here is the thread where Gadboy reveals his true nature. Of course he’ll try to convince you that he was just kidding. Very convenient defense. His strategy consisted of accusing me of being a suck-up. You see a similar strategy employed above where he says “Just go ahead and drink some more of dan’s koolad
