The plants get fertilizer put on them, I wonder where the fertilizer comes from? Through the root system it takes in the fertilizer so the plants have what in their stems? Does this mean that plants have animal by-products in them? Yes I think they have feelings along with other things in them. :)

Vegansexuals are people who do not eat any meat or animal products, and who choose not to be sexually intimate with non-vegan partners whose bodies, they say, are made up of dead animals.

Apparently, the management here at LST is ignoring yet another political scandal:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/31/nyregion/31albany.html?ref=nyregion

ALBANY, July 30 — Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s administration is facing the possibility of as many as four investigations following a scathing report issued a week ago by Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo’s office, a reality that could tie up many of the governor’s top staff members in legal wrangling for months to come.

Obviously, LST does not want anyone to know about the illegal actions of a well known Hillary Clinton supporter—especially if he’s been exposed by a well known political rival of the Clintons.

In addition, the State Ethics Commission is conducting a preliminary review in advance of a potential investigation. Republicans have also called for the State Commission of Investigation, an independent body created in the 1950s and initially charged with investigating organized crime, to review the conduct of the governor and his staff. A spokesman for the commission declined to comment.

Well, no wonder LST doesn’t want it’s readers to be familiar with this scandal—something that would tie the Clinton Campaing to an organized crime investigation would certainly damage her Presidential aspirations.

I am outraged that LST is covering this up. I see all sorts of postings about bad Republicans—-David Vitter, John Cornyn, Rick Perry, Fred Hill, Kay Bailey Hutchison, George W. Bush, Johnny Sutton—

It’s obvious where LST’s true sympathies lie.

Wake up and smell the coffee

    /sarc off.

I went to a class on sugars and flours, and there was a lady sitting next to me who went off every chance she got about the meat we eat - how diseased it is, how bad it is for us, etc., etc. She ate no meat, and was looking to cut out all sugars and flours. She kept proclaiming the glories of her raw food diet.

The woman looked like a walking scarecrow. I could count every bone in her arms, and her skin looked so dry I could set it afire with one spark. She may just live forever after all - mummies can last a long time, I hear.

  31. sargevining on July 31st, 2007 at 8:34 am

Last night, after reading the report from the Brookings Institute, a Liberal Think Tank, written in the New York Times, THE Liberal Newspaper, it occurred to me that George W. Bush seems to have delivered what the Democrats said they would deliver and could not:

Good news and progress in Iraq.

A second reading of that report

    http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/30/opinion/30pollack.html?_r=4&pagewanted=2&oref=slogin

and I note something that might also concern Democrats, something that negatively affected them after Veterans came home from Viet Nam, and accelerating as those who served during that time began to retire and got into politics:

In some places where we have failed to provide the civilian manpower to fill out the reconstruction teams, the surge has still allowed the military to fashion its own advisory groups from battalion, brigade and division staffs. We talked to dozens of military officers who before the war had known little about governance or business but were now ably immersing themselves in projects to provide the average Iraqi with a decent life.

Micheal Yon notes pretty much the same thing here:

I have wondered now for two years why is it that American military leaders somehow seem to naturally know what it takes to run a city, while many of the local leaders seem clueless. Over time, a possible answer occurred, and that nudge might be due to how the person who runs each American base is referred to as the “Mayor.” A commander’s first job is to take care of his or her forces. Our military is, in a sense its own little country, with city-states spread out all around the world. Each base is like a little city-state.

What I’m getting at here is that the Democrats might consider what the future of thier party might become once these capable, dedicated, mostly Conservative, young men and women with a memory of the statements made by Harry Ried, Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama, and a host of other prominent Democrats stating that they had lost the war and that the Surge was a failure before it even began do with thier lives after they come home. Toss in the fact that those very same Democrats are holding up the Defense Appropriations Bill that has money in itthat will give our troops a raise AND newly developed armored vehicles that are designed to withstand mines and IEDs.

What you get is a group of Republican Veterans already skilled at running cities and towns and know how it should be done, and a memory of who treated them right and who did not.

Some of them will get into politics—all of them will vote.

Granted, most Leftos and Democrats are not spitting on these young men and women like they did when I was in the Army—but Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi might as well have.

    Simply put:

Not more than two weeks ago, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi stood on a platform and told a bald faced defeatist lie to the American people:

    “The Surge has failed.”

And then commenced to introduce legislation designed specifically to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

As a young Private E1 still in basic Training, I was spit on in the Newark New Jersey airport in 1972. I remember that incident vividly and it shaped my life.

I’m pretty sure the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines who have served or are serving in Iraq will remember the words of this year’s Democrats—and I am certain it will shape thier life. And I am sure that it will shape the Democrat Party.

    But Kos won’t like it.

I knew someone that went vegan. They moved to teach (gofigger) in Montana or Wyoming on a commune or something. I saw her about a year later and she was so skinny, she could find shade under a clothes line! Her hair was thin and wispy and she said her teeth were loose. Of course, I had to excuse myself to go check on the ribeyes I had on the grill. When we sat down for dinner, I could see the look in her eyes watching the fork as every tasty morsel of deceased grilled to perfection bovine flesh was brought to my mouth. I loved it and watched her eat a plate of salad (no dressing) and brown rice.

They can be healthy and be a vegan, but I think a lot of them don’t know what they are doing and sacrifice their health for some political agenda.

  33. Hamous on July 31st, 2007 at 8:36 am

I watched a show on one of the municipal access channels a few years ago. The guy was chronicling his journey from meat-eater to vegan…by saving his feces. I kid you not. He had the turds dessicated and chronologically laid out in a diarama to demonstrate how his body had been cleansed over time. They all looked like turds to me.

I am also confident that the surge is working and that our military is doing a good job of restoring and maintaining infrastructure that is still under their oversight. But what troubles me is what’s going to happen when we hand all the fruits of our labor back over to them and they have to lead themselves. From what is being reported, it is not looking good. In fact it’s downright awful. Here is the latest report for the special inspector general for Iraq reconstruction. This is pretty discouraging and damaging stuff, IMO.

    http://www.sigir.mil/reports/quarterlyreports/Jul07/pdf/Highlights_-_July_2007.pdf

Our efforts mean nothing if Iraq leadership won’t maintain the assets after we give them back. Whether it happens now or after we leave, the result is the same. Iraq has effectively decided that it is going to have to fix its own problems.

So the bottom line is that the surge my be successful, out efforts to rebuild services and government in Iraq may be successful, but the Iraqis will just let it all go to hell when we turn it back over to them. The report is proof that will happen. It is already happening.

And to top it off, their Parliament takes the month off even though there is much critical legislation languishing. That’s not what I call a sign of commitment.

Short and Simple is the most effective. Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address had only 269 words and was done is less than five minutes.

Lincoln was not even the featured speaker on the day that the Gettysbury Cemetary was being formally opened. Indeed the first speaker used nearly two hours in his address and for the life of me (or anyone else for that matter) can I remember who was the keynote speaker. It is Lincoln’s speech that is remembered.

Lets have a primary system where there is no party distinction and make it possible to be able to choose between two Republicans or two Democrats in a run off election.

That is not a “country” thing, it is a relgion thing. In India they have Areas that are strictly vegan, But North indian food is not vegan at all. Many of their dishes have Goat or Lamb in them. Also fish, chicken and shrimp. I don’t remember for sure, but the Hindu religion comes to mind as what you mentioned.

The Hindu religion teaches the doctrine of “ahimsa”, or reincarnation, and that all living things are sacred, therefore, they should not be harmed. There are about 800 million Hindus in the world with most living in India. The majority (about 80%) of Indians are Hindu while approximately 16% are Muslim. The Muslims live primarily in the northern and northwestern provinces, such as Jammu & Kashmir, which border Islamic Pakistan.

All that good Texas Brahman beef you eat, such as Brangus (w/ Angus), Braford (w/Hereford), Brahmasin (Limousin)etc, and other cross bred beef got its start in India. Some Texas rodeo and wild west show promoters were the first to bring Brahman bulls here from India, around the turn of the century, as novelties for their audiences. Many of them escaped or were turned loose onto the open range in South Texas.

Dahej is the marital dowry in Hindu India. It can be quite substantial among wealthy families. Unfortunately, dowry-related abuse and murder of brides in India is a very serious problems. It is illegal there, but the law is obeyed about like turn-signal regulations in New York.

“House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) said Monday that a strongly positive report on progress on Iraq by Army Gen. David Petraeus likely would split Democrats in the House and impede his party’s efforts to press for a timetable to end the war.”

Another quote and the most telling:

“Many Democrats have anticipated that, at best, Petraeus and U.S. ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker would present a mixed analysis of the success of the current troop surge strategy, given continued violence in Baghdad. But of late there have been signs that the commander of U.S. forces might be preparing something more generally positive. Clyburn said that would be “a real big problem for us.”

  118. jimb on July 31st, 2007 at 3:28 pm

Latest on Kailyn (Thanks Marc for keeping everyone up to date):

Kailyn’s been fine today. All of us have been catching up on sleep, so except for getting up a few times to check on Kailyn, we were in bed for a good long time. I expect that Kailyn will sleep a lot for the next several days between her pain meds and just plain healing. Some folks from church have gotten together and will be providing meals for tne next several days, so that will make things easier.

Kailyn has cleared her first big hurdle. She’s still got a few hurdles to clear. We haven’t heard back any results from the MRI that was done right before Kailyn left the hospital, so I will probably check back tomorrow just to see how that went. She needs to finish healing from the surgery and have the staples removed. We also look toward the pathology report coming back so we can confirm what sort of tumor they removed, and whether or not any further steps are necessary. Finally, she has stated that she wants to wants to resume swimming by September, if not earlier.

Other than that, we pray that Kailyn will continue to heal well and without complication, that she will tolerate her meds well (I’m particularly looking forward to the day we can take her off the Dilantin - it is not very good for the teeth, I understand) and that the surgeons indeed got every last vestige of the tumor so it cannot return. That last one will be an over-the-years prayer, but I know that God is in control, so we will continue to trust in Him.

Some of the murders have been of new brides where the groom or groom’s family did not think the dowry was large enough. This is typically done by burning the woman alive and then reporting it as an accident or suicide. Official estimates are around 25,000 annually, but most people put the figure much higher. This horrendous practice is rather new, historically speaking, and has gotten worse as India has become more prosperous.

This has been a pretty miraculous deal so far. I have been telling Her Highness about it each step of the way. When I told her Kailyn was going home on Monday after surgery on Friday, she was incredulous. I said that’s the way we do things in Texas - we don’t mess around and we have, of course, the best surgeons in the world. God Bless.

There are a few honest politicians, but they are not in charge. Sadly, we haven’t had legitimate government in this country since the traitorous, Radical Republicans of the 39th Congress overthrew the Constitutional Republic and instituted a Federal tyranny during Reconstruction, about 140 years ago.

An Alabama couple, both bona fide rednecks, had 9 children. They went to the doctor to see about getting the husband “fixed.”
The doctor gladly started the required procedure and asked them what finally made them make the decision — why, after nine children, would they choose to do this?
The husband replied that they had read in a recent article that one out of every ten children being born in the United States was Mexican, and they didn’t want to take a chance on having a Mexican baby because neither of them could speak Spanish.

Islamic Honor Killings vs Hindu Dowry Slayings

It is very important to distinguish between these two religions and cultures aa well as honor killings and dowry murders. THEY ARE NOT THE SAME THING. Don’t lump together South Asian/Near East mistreatment and abuse of women as having one cause or source. These two criminal practices have entirely different histories and causes.

India has been a steadfast ally of America and a good friend to Israel, especially since 9/11/01. They are more than 80% Hindu and have nothing in common with Islam but geography.

There was a convenience store next to my office near 610 & 290. It was a few days after 9/11 and an ignorant redneck who worked for one of my friends was in there giving the owners a hard time one day. I couldn’t understand why he was acting that way so I intervened and took him outside. He pointed at the store and said these people were just like the ones who flew planes into the WTC. I took a world atlas out and gave him a quick history and geography lesson, on the hood of my truck, about Sikhs and explained they were not Muslim and, in fact, were actually from the Punjab region of India. They have traditionally been very pro-American. All this guy knew was they had turbans on their heads - it was enough for him. The thing is: Muslims don’t wear turbans.

  132. american woman on July 31st, 2007 at 5:42 pm

  134. american woman on July 31st, 2007 at 6:01 pm
