In a powerful sign of the region’s growing diversity, more Hispanics than Anglos now live in Harris County as it led the nation in growth of minority residents, according to Census Bureau estimates to be released today.
This historic demographic shift reflects persistent immigration, high birth rates among Latinos and ongoing migration to outlying suburban counties, experts say. And a dramatic increase in
Harris County ’s black population is partly attributed to an influx of residents displaced by Hurricane Katrina.
I’m not a big fan of the term “Anglo” but I also find all of this racial labeling and bean-counting distasteful, so I should probably cut the liberals some slack. After all, our politically correct friends at the Chron are hard-pressed to come up with enough euphemisms for non-whites. Thus we have bizarre sentences like this:
The minority population in the county is 2.5 million as of July 2006, or 63 percent of the total 3.9 million residents. In 2005, the county’s population was 3.7 million.
That’s right readers, the minority is the majority, but is still the minority. Isn’t political correctness wonderful? Thanks for that clear reporting, Chron! Elsewhere we find that the open-borders crowd is winning.
”All you have to do is go down to Southwest Houston, which is like our Ellis Island, and see who is standing at the bus stops,” said Joe Rubio, vice president of Community Relations for Catholic Charities. ”You’ll see people in native dress from all over the world.”
”[Harris] county is evolving into a diverse and multi-ethnic place that is making it a forerunner of what the
United States is becoming,” Eschbach said.
Folks, your country is being given away right before your very eyes. Naturally, the knee-jerk reaction from the open-borders crowd is to call anyone making such a statement a racist, but this is a tired, baseless charge from people who know they are wrong. Borders, language, and culture make up a nation, and all of these things are placed in jeopardy by massive, decades-long immigration of both the legal and illegal varieties, which is exactly what we continue to experience. There is no room for debate on this. The truth is simply what it is.
Laughably, the Chron goes on to suggest that
Experts say minority population growth will affect education, health services, the number of minorities elected to political office and have an impact on the city’s economic development.
Wow, did it require a college degree and taxpayer-funded studies to figure that out? With the county becoming “majority minority” more “minorities” will be elected to government. Who would have thought?
”We’re trying to prepare to build the infrastructure that’s necessary” to accommodate growth and improve quality of life, said Harris County Commissioner Sylvia Garcia, citing roads, bridges, parks, health clinics, and hike and bike trails.

You mean we don’t have that already?
I thought majority meant more then 50%. It looks like we have a bunch of minorities in this county including the whites. How come those so-called statistics and estimates don’t break down the majority minority numbers into legal and illegal residents and voter registration numbers. Since we don’t check the citizenship status of the voters, I guess the illegals can register to vote.

Hmmmmm. I’m curious, Panda Man. Since when is does the census bureau, which performs one of the few constitutionally mandated (and most useful) functions in federal government, qualify as “liberal,” especially after 6+ years under a GOP prez?
Also, while I don’t closely follow Houston city government, I can tell you that the state government beginning in 2003 began a systematic policy of underfunding infrastructure and basic government services, and not just for “minorities” but for everyone statewide. (Creating toll roads instead of forking over for highways is perhaps the most iconic example, but also in prisons, education and healthcare.) So lets be sure to assign the same criticisms across the board.
And please, let’s not for a moment pretend that corruption in Texas politics exists because of Mexicans - you’ve got to be kidding! It wasn’t 2 decades ago when I was in college that Bo Pilgrim was handing out $10,000 checks to Democrats on the floor of the Texas Senate. Hell, somebody go back and read up on LBJ’s first Senate campaign! And of course the final chapter of story of the TRMPAC-Abramoff-Craddick nexus hasn’t been written yet, in history or in court.
Oh, and btw, if you want to screen out the crooks, the best way is to let in legally and document the folks who aren’t criminals but just come here to work. Then the drug thugs and gang members don’t blend in the crowd. That way you can let in the people who work and contribute to the system, and fewer of those who only leach off of it. I know y’all aren’t necessarily interested in solutions on that question, but when you finally get tired of complaining and start looking for ways to move forward, you might look into it.
Until then, y’all keep pushing for that wall. I’m thinking of investing in a Mexican ladder company.

How does one population overtaking another make anything more “diverse?” Its just more of one particular group, which is making things less diverse, I would think.
Here legally means obeying the law regardless of race, creed, color or national origin.

Maybe the ‘Anglos’ should make ‘lemonade’. i.e. get concessions for being a minority.- There was an article in the London Daily Mail last week: (Paraphrased) English white woman denied job in East Anglia environmental ’something or other’ because of her race/nationality. The article stated that if she had been almost anything else, including, Scottish- white or Welsh- white, she could have gotten the job. It’s part of the effort by the left and the E U to carve England into Regions, while leaving Scotland and Wales intact. It will be here soon when lil’ Bush et al have their way with the North American Union.

Why, there are no conspiracies of the sort.
No group of people has ever conspired in the history of mankind for any reason.
The word ‘minority’ when used in a sociopolitical sense means a group that wields limited power in the governing and economic make up of the society. It DOES NOT mean the actual the number of people. A good case in point would be parts of South Africa where blacks were stilled refered to as ‘minorities’. This term has been diluted over the years by the lesser informed to the point where it is now.
