    Good Morning everyone,
    enjoy a great sunny weekend!

  2. malcolm on August 11th, 2007 at 7:03 am

Mornin’ AZ, EmmeK and all. It’s gonna’ be a hot one in South Texas. Be careful out there!

A mom was concerned about her kindergarten son walking to school. He didn’t want his mother to walk with him. She wanted to give him the feeling that he had some independence but yet know that he was safe.
So she had an idea of how to handle it. She asked a neighbor if she would please follow him to school in the mornings, staying at a distance, so he probably wouldn’t notice her.
She said that since she was up early with her toddler anyway, it would be a good way for them to get some exercise as well, so she agreed.
The next school day, the neighbor and her little girl set out following behind Timmy as he walked to school with another neighbor boy he knew.
She did this for the whole week.
As the boys walked and chatted, kicking stones and twigs, Timmy’s little friend noticed the same lady was following them as she seemed to do every
day all week. Finally he said to Timmy, “Have you noticed that lady following us to school all week? Do you know her?”
Timmy nonchalantly replied, “Yeah, I know who she is.”
The friend said, “Well, who is she?”
“That’s just Shirley Goodnest,” Timmy replied, “and her daughter Marcy.”
“Shirley Goodnest? Who the heck is she and why is she following us?”
“Well,” Timmy explained, “every night my Mom makes me say the 23rd Psalm with my prayers, ‘cuz she worries about me so much.
“And in the Psalm, it says, ‘Shirley Goodnest and Marcy shall follow me all the days of my life’, so I guess I’ll just have to get used to it!”

Great morning to all of you…do take care of yourself in the heat of the day and drink lots and lots of water and stay indoors if you can and keep a cool head (in more ways than one). I plan to clean up the yard and pick my vegetables off the tomato and green pepper plants for my salad today and do some serious reading. Enjoy the weekend.

    # 2, Malcolm. Great way to start the day with a good story.

The pic above sure looks inviting for shopping. I cannot fathom the current concept in shopping that pushes the so-called town center arrangement with stores facing small streets vs. the enclosed (and air conditioned) mall. First Colony Mall has gone to great expense to add that feature in its originally huge parking lots. I have not yet visited that section–too hot to go outside from store to store, as it usually is here for about 4 months of summer. And the rainy July certainly didn’t favor this arrangement either.

This same concept is being pushed up north–very trendy and very impractical in winter, which up there can be 5 months long. An enclosed mall in Madison, WI had the same renovation taking up a good share of its parking lot. Went there with kin to see what had happened to the place. Many more people in the enclosed mall than on the little streets outside, and this was July. And parking was a challenge. Somebody did some fast talking to the property owners in selling this idea.

Well time to take Jared for his horse riding lessons, wish they had an indoor A/C arena. Then its on to Downtown to Fish Gallery to spend more money for his sixth discus fish and gold nugget pleco. We set up a 110 gal. aquarium this week, it is excellent, like a big wide screen plasma screen.

    Should I get flood insurance, have a 30 gal, a 55 gal., and now a 110 gallon?

I heard a guy call in to a talkshow on Thursday evening, telling about a program for forklift energy efficiency. He was “given” nearly $10,000 credit toward the purchase of a new less-polluting, more efficient propane-powered forklift, in return for a forklift sitting on the back of his lot leaking oil, that he’d bought used for $3,500. Such a deal!

Who doesn’t love an unhinged Liberal Rant?

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/cenk-uygur/we-have-no-hope_b_59929.html

Under the headline “We Have No Hope” this incredibly prescient wag says (a front pager):

According to McClatchy Newspapers, Dick Cheney is on the precipice of convincing Bush to attack Iran. Diplomacy has gone nowhere because Cheney set a precondition that could not be met (stop enriching uranium before we negotiate over whether you should enrich uranium).

    snip

Do you think the Democrats will be able to stop Bush if he decides to strike Iran? If you do, you have no idea what you’re talking about. It is an IGNORANT position to think that Democrats would even fight back against military strikes aimed at Iran, let alone effectively stop them. The Democrats WILL fold like a house of cards the minute the first bomb is in the air. They will rally around the flag like a bunch of trained Pavlovian dogs.

    Got that?

If we attack Iran, it won’t be because they are building nukes.

It won’t be because they say they want to wipe Isreal off the map.

It won’t be because they provide weapons and training to Iraqi baby killers to kill american soldiers and Iraqi babies.

It will be because of the eeeEEEEEeeeevillllllll Dick Cheney.

Somebody please tell me again why we need to let these clowns win elections to advance the cause of Conservatism.

I remember reading about the hundreds of thousands if not millions that Williams Bros. received from Texas, our money, to purchase new equipment. Not a loan, it was free money. I am not in the construction business so I do not compete with Williams for work, but it would really burn my butt to have to bid against them on state construction jobs while their cost of equipment is also paid for by the state. Seems very unfair that they have their cost of equipment paid for by the customer, you and I, and also get paid for the service they provide.

Double dipping???? Who paid off who for this gift???

Another fine example of illegals coming here to do the jobs Americans will not do:

LOS ANGELES - Nine Guatemalans were indicted for their roles in an alleged sex trafficking ring that lured young women to the United States with promises of good jobs and then forced them into prostitution, according to federal court records.

Four of the defendants pleaded not guilty in January to sex trafficking charges in the case. A superseding indictment, unsealed Thursday, includes more serious allegations that five of the 12 victims were minors.

Well, looks like Ron Paul’s supporters are at it again.

Ron Paul’s supporters are actively encouraging Iowa voters to take advantage of Mitt Romney’s offers of free transportation to the Iowa Straw Poll in Ames on Saturday and then, once they are there, to vote for Mr. Paul.

“Some say if Mitt is willing to bus Iowans to Ames for the straw poll, they should take him up on his offer!” says a flier in Iowa and on the Internet in advance of the straw poll for the Republican presidential candidates. The flier says that after riding the Romney bus to Ames, and allowing the Romney campaign to pay one’s $35 entry fee, Iowans should then carefully weigh their options and “they may decide to vote for Ron Paul.”

    ~snip~

But he conceded that infiltrating the Romney bus could certainly help Mr. Paul. It is his first visible attempt at converting his popularity online into success offline, which, alas, is where it counts.

Neither nation will become anymore involved in Iraq, they are both much smarter than that.

I think you missed the point though, as Pakistan’s involvement in Afghanistan (creating and supporting the Taliban and forces killing coalition soldiers there) and their support for OBL/al-quaida (and his desire for nuclear weapons) has long been a serious threat to our nation’s security.

The Iowa straw poll is more af a guage of who is more organized.

I don’t think anyone has made a claim thatb Fre’d campaign is organized—in fact, it;s not even a “campaign” at all. If he’d done most of what needs be done to win that affair, he’d have been in violation of election laws.

The fact that he got any votes at all ought to scare the bejabbers out of some folks who put millions of dollars into it.

The folks that voted for Fred probably rode to the State Fair in Mitt Romney’s busses with the Ron Paul people.

Remember folks! Vote early, and vote often! Also, have someone else cast your poor, dead, Uncle Billie’s vote! Pick someone who knows who poor, dead, Uncle Billie would vote for!

Anybody know why they put these things on at the Iowa State Fair?

Because that’s the real reason these people go, and the real reason they want the ride on the bus.

It’s got more to do with putting blue ribbons on pigs than it does in electing politicans to get rid of pork.

Gee, last week it was the Ragbrai across America, next week, picking out our future President.

Anybody ever hear about the Ragbrai? It’s a bicycle ride across Iowa.

I’ve got plenty of stories about Iowa.

    Nat;
I’m not going to put any credence in a vote where the candidate pays people to do it and gives them a rides all across the state to the place where it’s done.

I thought about that too, then I thought about all the biker brothers riding in for Thompson, and Jimmy Carter and some other candidate that won the nomination living there for a while before the straw poll was taken. It must carry some weight and looks like a Ron Paul line to me. - - - Didn’t say I liked it.

Iowa wasn’t even a factor until Jimmy Carter won.

The straw poll basically gives the press something political to talk about while Democrat Congressmen and Sneators spend thier vacation before passing important legislation traveling around complaining about the Iraqi parliament going on vacation before passing important legislation.

This was developed as an age test by Harvard University .
Take your time and see if you can read each line aloud without a

    1. This is this cat.
    2. This is is cat.
    3. This is how cat.

    5. This is keep cat.

    9. This is busy cat.
    10. This is for cat.

The second flight out of Ames belongs to Gov. Mike Huckabee of Arkansas, who manifestly did not spend nearly as much as third-place finisher Sam Brownback and who has been dogged by questions about his ability to harness his support.

Michael Farris, a Huckabee adviser who runs the Home School Legal Defense Fund, said Huckabee’s campaign has existed on a “shoe-string budget” so far. “But it just goes to show that he is the best communicator in this race.”

Sen. Brownback spent about $600,000, a Republican who consults with his campaign said.

More trouble everyday, as Frank Z would say….

“Pakistan’s military and intelligence agencies are believed to have leaked information to the Taliban and al Qaeda in the past, and appears to have done so again.”

“This is one of the reasons that we are worried about a major CONUS [Continental United States] attack…….If they evacuated their bases, they almost certainly did so out of fear of more than just the Pakistani army.”

    http://billroggio.com/archives/2007/08/pakistan_concern_ove.php

And from inside the Pakistan National Assembly this past week…

“The PML’s Chaudhry Ijaz said the US had suffered an embarrassing defeat in Iraq and it now wanted to salvage its pride in Afghanistan and Pakistan.”

“The MMA’s Maulana Chitrali said that Pakistan was an atomic power and would nuke the US if it attacked the Muslim holy places.”

“The MMA’s Dr Fareed Paracha said that Pakistan was suffering because its foreign policy was changed after 9/11 by “an indivdual”. “The only solution to this problem is regime change,” he added.”

I thought they were talking about the guy running the website in Israel that caused the weekend panic in NYC.

“Dirty rat behind dirty bomb scare”

I was wrong, but at least it made for some humour in my rainy afternoon….

“Raised by hippie parents, then turned to hate & radical Islam”

“He is the grandson of a Jewish doctor.”

“Gadahn’s father, born Phil Pearlman, was a psychedelic rocker and farmer. In a 1975 album titled “Relatively Clean Rivers,” he dreamed that Arabs and Jews would “get together” and melt their weapons into sprinklers, tractors and hoes.”

This is a fascinating column on a speech by Gingrich. Using the internet to bypass the traditional media is something I have encouraged and predicted will eventually occur. It will be interesting to see who does it successfully and first.

    http://www.usatoday.com/news/opinion/columnist/raasch/2007-08-09-raasch_N.htm

” Sarkozy, he said, did two important things.

First, Sarkozy established 16 Internet channels that were like YouTube and rigorously avoided trying to communicate through the French media, which Gingrich defined as hostile to conservatives.

‘What (Sarkozy) said is, ‘If I can communicate with you, then the news media can watch our conversation,’ which is very different than having a conversation with the news media which (average people) watch,’ Gingrich said. “

This is a great posting from Warren Meyer at Coyote Blog. Global warming takes it on the chin. NASA is being forced to revise historical temperature data downward and the real scandal is they refuse to release their algorythyms and modeling data to show how they arrive at their conclusions. Any other scientific organization who did this would be ridiculed into obscurity. I’m sure it was the lead story on the nightly news. The scam being run on us is bordering on criminal:

” Climate scientist Michael Mann (famous for the hockey stick chart) once made the statement that the 1990’s were the warmest decade in a millennia and that “there is a 95 to 99% certainty that 1998 was the hottest year in the last one thousand years.” (By the way, Mann now denies he ever made this claim, though you can watch him say these exact words in the CBC documentary Global Warming: Doomsday Called Off).

Well, it turns out, according to the NASA GISS database, that 1998 was not even the hottest year of the last century. This is because many temperatures from recent decades that appeared to show substantial warming have been revised downwards. Here is how that happened (if you want to skip the story, make sure to look at the numbers at the bottom). ”

We need to congratulate Republicans Jeb Hensarling, of northeast Texas and Mac Thornberry, of the Panhandle, for scoring perfect 100% scores on the 2007 RePork Card report by the Club For Growth:

” The Club for Growth has compiled a RePORK Card of all members’ votes on all 50 anti-pork amendments (see below). ‘Taxpayers have a right to know which congressmen stand up for them and which stand up for the special interests,’ said Club for Growth President Pat Toomey. ‘Unfortunately, the Club for Growth RePORK Card shows that most congressmen care more about lining their buddies’ pockets than they care about protecting American taxpayers.’ ”

The Club For Growth rated all US House members on how they voted on the 50 amendments offered to curtail or eliminate pork in the House spending. ONE, JUST ONE amendment passed. See how they voted here:

    http://www.clubforgrowth.org/2007/08/the_2007_club_for_growth_repor.php

    also:

” Sixteen congressmen scored a perfect 100%, voting for all 50 anti-pork amendments. They are all Republicans.

The average Republican score was 43%. The average Democratic score was 2%. “

“He is such a liar, because the only time he was down there was for photo ops with celebrities, with politicians, with diplomats,” said deputy fire chief Jimmy Riches, who spent months digging for his firefighter son.

“On 9/11 all he did was run. He got that soot on him, and I don’t think he’s taken a shower since.”
