Getchyo Neocon Freak On!

The United States has decided to designate Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, the country’s 125,000-strong elite military branch, as a “specially designated global terrorist,” according to U.S. officials, a move that allows Washington to target the group’s business operations and finances.
The designation of the Revolutionary Guard will be made under Executive Order 13224, which President Bush signed two weeks after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks to obstruct terrorist funding. It authorizes the United States to identify individuals, businesses, charities and extremist groups engaged in terrorist activities. The Revolutionary Guard would be the first national military branch included on the list, U.S. officials said — a highly unusual move because it is part of a government, rather than a typical non-state terrorist organization.
The order allows the United States to block the assets of terrorists and to disrupt operations by foreign businesses that “provide support, services or assistance to, or otherwise associate with, terrorists.”
The main goal of the new designation is to clamp down on the Revolutionary Guard’s vast business network, as well as on foreign companies conducting business linked to the military unit and its personnel. The administration plans to list many of the Revolutionary Guard’s financial operations.
“Anyone doing business with these people will have to reevaluate their actions immediately,” said a U.S. official familiar with the plan who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the decision has not been announced. “It increases the risks of people who have until now ignored the growing list of sanctions against the Iranians. It makes clear to everyone who the IRGC and their related businesses really are. It removes the excuses for doing business with these people.”
I wonder how much of Texas’ billions of tax-dollars in public pension funds are invested in companies doing business with Iran’s Revolutionary Guard?
That could make for some interesting reading.
Hey Austin–would you rather take care of this now, or after it hits the front-page of the paper?
Dan Patrick has been warning about this since last March, and Gov. Perry is on board too.
Can we have some action, please?
For weeks, the Bush administration has been debating whether to target the Revolutionary Guard Corps in full, or only its Quds Force wing, which U.S. officials have linked to the growing flow of explosives, roadside bombs, rockets and other arms to Shiite militias in Iraq and the Taliban in Afghanistan. The Quds Force also lends support to Shiite allies such as Lebanon’s Hezbollah and to Sunni movements such as Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
Music to this right-wing Jew’s ears.

Matt,
I agree that we shouldn’t do business with Iran, but - and I’m serious - Lets cut all diplomatic ties with any country that does - ban their citizens from doing business with the United States, close their embassies and expell their citizens under green cards
No more 1/2 (really 1/100th) measures
If Europe wants Iranian oil then let em fight the terror by themselves and who gives a rat rears end about the Euro and their little dogs too….
If they want to be enemies of the United States, kill our best and brightest - go for it make our day
Is this action only against the guard? Shouldn’t it be the Iranian government? How do you seperate the two?
Since this targets the guard does it open the door to possible military action against the guard?
The Revolutionary Guard is the equivalent of the SS of the religious arm of Iran
Usually there are two branches of everything religious and secular
Its not a perfect analogy
Unfortunately, given the way we have chosen to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan, I just don’t see how we can take on Iran without having some sort of draft. Our tactics are just too man intensive for us to fight on three fronts and still maintain our commitments in other areas. Of course, maybe it is time to rethink how we have our military committed in foreign countries. Is it too early to pull out of Germany or Korea?
“hitting them in the wallet” is a good idea - and the exact SAME good idea should be implemented by us citizens on the inside-the-beltway-thieves that ‘claim’ to represent us!

Yes much to early - if we leave now their economys’
would colaspe.
Duh Moose
Or we could actually let them fight the Army way
Eric, I would be all for using the Air Force and Navy to attack strategic targets, enforce no-fly zones, and show the world what the US military can do when the gloves come off. However, I do not think we have anyone in power that is willing to take those measures. I hope I am wrong.
Send in the ground pounders
Theres something about seeing the power close up and personal

Why? What has happened to our political leadership?
Illegal imigration or the War, the moat powerful nation on earth yet we are weak in our resolve to defend ourselves.
Is there a site that can tell us what investments various government pension funds are tied to?

Should be in the State pension board sites

Lets help the Iranian nuclear program out:

dcgirl (and others)
This report (pdf, 115 pp.) is a little outdated (2004) and covers all pension investments in firms that do business with terrorist-sponsoring regimes (not just Iran), but it’ll give you a general sense of where to look for more up to date info.
gee this is great they finally recognized there is a problem with these folks. thats quicker way quicker than they have realized there is problems with our borders and that has been going on for 7 years. no incumbant needs to be re-elected back to washington.
Totally off topic, but…..
Anyone ever eat a Jew’s ear? Are they all salty and crunchy like a Frito? Or are they sweet and chewy like a Gummy Bear?
Just asking…
Maybe we should order some and give it a test?? Don’t be a cheapskate and try and bite Benzion though, because he’ll most likely hit you!

My fiancee’s JAP ears are quite cute and she gets giddy when I nuzzle them.
Yeah but are they sweet and chewy or salty and crunchy?
Or Spicy like Wasabi?

Is it time to start the JAP jokes ?
no, thank you
Why not the whole government? If the Revolutionary Guard exists at all, it is in the service of and at the behest of the Government, even if Iran has two governments, both lie in the same bed. Both claim to want to destroy Israel and the US. Both support terrorism throughout the world and have done so for way too long. Is this a war against terror or a fookin’ tea party?

There aren’t enough pixels to cover them. Besides, since the exotically beautiful daughter has reached adulthood here and assumed that role, my fiancee has ascended to JAQ.
And the repeated sounds of David pounding his head against the Keyboard….
“….my fiancee has ascended to JAQ.”
I have the Empress of Doom!

My previous JAP still emails me the JAP jokes regularly. We get along so much better when there are a few hundred miles between us.
In case you didn’t know (although I believe you do) - the term JAP is a huge insult to Jewish women every where.
Thanks David. I had googled this and couldn’t find anything anywhere. It will be interesting reading.

Outside of the east side of Manhattan, there are more Jewish women living in Bergen County, New Jersey (where I live) than anywhere else in America. I am surrounded by Jewish women day, and night, since I share a bed with one. The people I hear regularly using the term, JAP, sarcastically, in jest or as a criticism are Jewish women, of all ages. Maybe you should come preach to them. In fact, I virtually never use the term and only jokingly typed it here today.
Texpat I don’t want to preach to anyone and from getting to know you by your posts I never would assume you would be disrespetful to anyone - especially women of any faith. Perhaps it is my own perseption that the term JAP is insulting to most women when it is used sarcastically by men, because I personally hold a great deal of respect for the Jewish women I know. As a rule, their family values and ethics are far above standard. Wasn’t criticizing you. Was just thinking how this thread with the JAP jokes might be perceived by any Jewish women readers or the men who love them.
sheesh - sorry for the typos. I really MUST proofread!
