    GOOOOOOOOD MOORNNINNG!!!!!!!!
    Its FFRRIIDDAAYY,
and a three day weekend for some whhewwww.

I stumbled upon this speech given by JFK in 1961 about the President and the press. With all the debate about the press today especially in regards to the war coverage I thought you all might enjoy not only reading it but actually listening to a recording of it. I wonder how much John Kennedy would have in common with his brother Edward today?

Are we done talking about Larry Craig and public restroom stalls ? Enough is enough. I’m repulsed by even those commentators with whom I generally agree. I have no doubt the real reason why visitors from other galaxies never overtly reveal themselves. Every time they show up, mankind has erupted into one of its chronic orgies of obsessive madness. They just turn and run - I would.

Oscar Wyatt’s trial has received next to no publicity here. The AP article you linked to is the only original thing I’ve seen. Bear in mind, Manhattan is a relative ghost town the last 2-3 weeks of August so locally generated stories are at a low. Most schools here do not begin until the day after Labor Day. It will be interesting to see next week when the media machine cranks back up.

And don’t forget, Lynn Wyatt has many, many friends among the media elites and teleliterati of NYC. I’m curious to see how they play it up here. Trial proceedings begin Tuesday.

I won’t quote the comments of our late uncle, a former Senior Executive VP for Tenneco, since it would be hearsay in this public forum. His judgement and integrity were unimpeachable in my book. However, it is safe to say he held Oscar Wyatt in the very lowest esteem possible after having had direct dealings with the man.

HISD Officer in trouble for passing out a ghetto handbook…. oops!

“A crudely made “Ghetto Handbook” distributed by a Houston school district police officer sparked angry words Thursday from leaders in the district and the community”….

“The eight-page handout, which includes a few grainy photographs, purports to offer definitions that will enable the reader to speak Ebonics “as if you just came out of the hood.” Ebonics is a nonstandard variety of English spoken by some black Americans.”

An what would an article about race be without the brain droppings of Quanell “Junebug” Da Tenff!

“Houston activist Quanell X said he will ask today that Chief Wiley and anyone involved in the incident be reprimanded.

“What I’m angry about is that the supervisor did not file the complaint himself,” he said. “The HISD police chief should have done more immediately, once this racist literature was brought to his attention.”

Man I am glad the gov is really cracking down and deporting the illegals. Bwahahahaha

PHOENIX (Reuters) - When a heavy knock came on the door of her Phoenix home, Mari knew that the immigration police had finally caught up with her. Arrested and held for a month in a U.S. jail, she was sent back to Guatemala on a prison flight.

But four weeks later, after raising a $5,000 smuggling fee, she was back with her family in Arizona.

As U.S. authorities step up deportations of illegal immigrants, a growing number of them, like Mari, are simply turning round and heading back stateside to rejoin families and resume their lives.

    What the hell!!!!

WASHINGTON (AP) - Offering federal help for strapped mortgage holders, President Bush is proposing to aid hundreds of thousands of borrowers hard hit by the housing slump.

The president on Friday was to talk about several initiatives and reforms to help homeowners with risky mortgages keep their homes, a senior administration official said Thursday. Bush also was to discuss efforts to prevent these kinds of problems from arising in the future.

Hmmm, too bad I didn’t spend more money than I could afford on my house. It would have been so nice to have my neighobr pick up what I can’t afford via his taxes.

I certainly hope that illegal aliens are included in this, but of course, I’m sure they will be.

    I love this trend…

Buy a car that won’t pass inspection and the govenment wants to buy you a new own (via those who pay taxes).

Buy a house you can’t afford and the government chips in so you can keep it (via those who pay taxes).

Live in another country and have the government pay to educate your children (via those who pay taxes).

Break into our country and the gvoernment will pay your medical bills (via those who pay taxes).

SOMEONE PLEASE ENLIGHTEN ME!!! WHY AM I GOING TO WORK EACH DAY?!?!?!?!

Wayne and Channel 13 did a good job exposing that “money pit”, the Houston Sports Authority. They have built three stadiums and looking to try to keep their jobs by wasting more tax dollars on building an unapproved soccer stadium. The HSA also enjoys wasting taxpayer money on stadium improvements that should have been made by the team owners and maintaining luxury boxes at those stadiums. If I remember, the HSA tried to get involved in building cultural facilities. How do we kill this “beast” who enjoys sucking up taxpayer dollars for their own benefit. Look at all those tax dollars that could have been spent on our schools, our safety and reduce our tax burden.

    Hebonics…… Who knew?

    “In Hebonics, the response to
any question is usually another question — plus a
complaint that is implied or stated. Thus ‘How are
you?’ may be answered, ‘How should I be, with my
    feet?’”

    Question: “What time is it?”

English answer: “Sorry, I don’t know.”
Hebonic answer: “What am I, a clock?”

Answering a phone call from son:
English remark: “It’s been a long time since you
    called.”
Hebonic remark: “You didn’t wonder if I’m dead yet?”

Remark: “I like the tie you gave me; wear it all the
    time.”
English response: “Glad you like it.”
Hebonic response: “So what’s the matter; you don’t like
the other ties I gave you?

Guys I am just getting up, but yesterday I contacted my asset in El Paso about the illegal aliens using our schools. This is how it works.

The ninos, ninas, off spring of Mexicans, come across the border to attend our schools. They are registered using El Paso addresses that allow them to attend that school district.

We see that here also as I have several neighbors that don’t want their children attending Waller ISD so they send them to Magnolia ISD and Klein ISD. Both families have family in those districts and simply use that as their home address.

My asset also told me that the teachers in the El Paso ISD speak a very poor form of Spanish and English. The products of their endeavors also end up with little or no English and the same guttural Spanish spoken by the mestizos in Mexico. Where as Castilian Spanish is taught in most American schools the El Paso ISD teaches Tex-Mex.

A Rabbi was walking, slowly, out of a shul in New York, when a gust of wind blew his hat off and down the street. He was an old man, who walked with the aid of a cane, and who wasn’t able to fetch his hat. Across the street, a young gentile man saw what was happening, rushed over and grabbed the hat. He then returned it to the Rabbi.

“I don’t think I could have retrieved my hat by myself,” said the Rabbi. “Thank you very much!” He then placed his hand on the man’s shoulder and said, “May God bless you.”

The young man thought to himself, “I’ve been blessed by the Rabbi, this must be my lucky day!” He decided then and there to go to the racetrack. In the first race he noted a horse named ‘Stetson’ at 20 to 1. He bet $50 and, sure enough, the horse came in first. In the second race, a horse named ‘Fedora’ was at 30 to 1, so he bet all his money on that horse. Fedora came in first, as well.

At the end of the day the man returned home to his wife. She asked him where he’s been. He explained how he caught the Rabbi’s hat, and how he was blessed by him, and how he then went to the track and bet on horses which were named after hats.
“So where’s the money?” she said.
“I lost it all in the ninth race. I bet on a horse named Chateau and it lost.”
“You fool, ‘chateau’ is a house, ‘chapeau’ is a hat!” exlaimed his wife.
“It doesn’t matter,” he said, “the winner was some Japanese horse named Yarmulka.

I have to agree on the problems with the “sub-prime mortgage holder” helping-hand…and this is from someone who could have used it.

When we moved here from Chicaho a few years back I had a very good job but lousy credit…we were able to get into a home w/ a sub-prime loan…8.5% Variable Rate, no escrow…the works…

It was NOT a surprise to me and you better believe from day one we worked our butts off to improve our credit, savings, etc. so that when 2 years rolled around and we were looking at an 11.5% rate and taxes and insurance we were in a much better position.

We re-financed w/ a 30-yr fixed at 6.5%…and we did it on our own.

    It’s that simple.

Another thing has been bothering me, and Friday Open comments seems as good a time as any to express it…

I’v been an avid listener of 700 AM since I arrived here, but I have to say - with all due respect - that Pat Gray is the worst thing to happen to KSEV since Edd saw “Brokeback Mountain.”

When I listened to Edd in the morning I always felt more informed. It was good talk about serious subjects, and apart from clips of the Little Richard Geico commercials during election season, there was very little silliness.

Pat Gray makes a great wacky morning guy with funny impressions and recorded comedy bits, but I don’t listen to KSEV for wacky morning (and alas, too often, afternoon) shtick.

It’s become much harder to listen to.

    Just my opinion.

    Have a Great Friday Everyone.

#51, I like Pat Gray because he can take the ligher side approach. Sometimes you just need a break from the same crap every day all day. I wish he would scale it back though. A little goes a long way and he is too good to spend so much time on sillyness. I think it’s a waste having both he and Edd on at the same time. Doesn’t really matter that much to me anyhow. I can only pick up KSEV for about four weeks out of the year at morning drive time because of their predawn power restriction. They really need to buy out a blow torch for really good coverage in SE Texas. By the way, thank God it’s Friday.

I would like to give you an example of how hard it is to kill a government entity. == I was President of my Home Owners Association. We only have 132 houses and not much money to work with. We only have enough to pay for things like insurance, management company etc, the overhead you have to have. Hardly anything left for the neighborhood. I decided we would be better off without it so we contacted lawyers about having it dissolved. After a study was done by them and they told us all of the legal things that would need to be done, it was just about impossible. We are stuck with it much like all of us are stuck with the Houston Sports Authority and many other unneeded things. It is beyond me why things can’t be simple in life.

I would tell you that you need to check your bylaws and see what it takes to change them, because what ever it takes to change them is the same as what it will take to disolve the association. The biggest cost may be the disolvement of the corporate structure but that should not be that big of an issue. It sounds like your lawyer does not want to loose a client.

The idea was to sell the park, dissolve the HOA and not collect fees. The people would be better off since we have little money for neighborhood improvements anyway.

Pat tries to copy the big boys with parody and it’s overkill. Rush doesn’t even play as much parody as Pat, and parody is lazy. You don’t have to take calls or discuss while a stupid dity is playing. So, the only story he can find in the entire Iraq war is one where a couple of soldiers rape someone? That’s it? Nothing about all the other things that are happening?

Talk about abusing the First Amendment…

You have to check your bylaws, for our community it takes 3/4’s of the shareholders to sell an asset. Regarding dissolving the HOA, I assume it is a non-profit corporation, you may have to follow the bylaws again or state non-profit corporate act.

I would never dissolve my corporation without a lawyer, and I own it all, when you are dealing with that many individual personalities you better get a lawyer and pay her/him for protection.

  73. AZ on August 31st, 2007 at 4:05 pm

Dude when you get a chance go to http://www.TalkinTexas.com check out the item on the Riding Lessons page. I could burn that place by using their real name but will not, it would not be fair. Growing up I witnessed people making quick emotional decisions and there were always bad results from that. I always give people more chances then they deserve, might be my one weakness, but it is better then a knee-jerk reaction.

I will not talk or write bad things about people, especially those who stand before the crowd and subject themselves to cheap shots in an attempt to help others. I am dissapointed by the actions of some people while I attempted to get theBIGLOBBY going but I really do not feel it is fair to judge them too harshly unless I first sat down with them to discuss my feelings. But I always will exercise my rights to free speech, and will always respect everyone elses same rights to it.

I fear no sword, he who fears death more will always be a loser.

  74. bigmck on August 31st, 2007 at 4:06 pm

72 == Yes, we do have a lawyer. Like yours, ours takes a vote of 3/4 to dissolve. That was one of the big stubbling blocks trying to get that many people to agree on something.

  75. american woman on August 31st, 2007 at 4:11 pm

#74 if you dissolve your home owners assoc……do you loose your deed restrictions? That’s the only protection you have to stop business from moving in, etc.

  77. The Dude on August 31st, 2007 at 4:26 pm

    #73 AZ,

All interesting and valid points you make there. One that I would make in turn is that we need to be exceptionally cautious with the associations we choose. Being deemed a racist just because you have US Border Watch members present at a meeting might not be fair, but it’s how the game works. When just starting out (as The Big Lobby was) you’ll be judged by the worst element of your association, not the best. That’s not fear talking, it’s experience. Experience is what leads me to choose my associates with due diligence and prudence.

  80. american woman on August 31st, 2007 at 4:37 pm

I was at the meeting, and had never met Border Watch before. They weren’t the worst element, IMHO. The worst element were the home owners who were angry at the illegals crowding the front of their subdivision. They were angry their property values were going down, and angry realtors didn’t want to show their property…. but when Border Watch offered to help, and came on one occasion where I helped. NO homeowners showed up to help. I got the impression from one lady, she wanted them gone but wanted someone to do all the work for her. I wasn’t impressed with her.

  81. AZ on August 31st, 2007 at 5:27 pm

AW and after weeks of waiting for one of them to contact me I end up with zero. As I have stated many times before, most people want someone else to do the lifting and work. That will be our downfall, those who do get involved expose themselves, and their family, to attacks. As Dude stated, it is part of the reaction you receive. It is also the reason most will not get involved, and having been there a few times I understand people fearing that and remaining silent.

  82. american woman on August 31st, 2007 at 5:33 pm

Does this mean I am fearless LOL I just want action! It’s not a boogey man thing to get envolved sheesh! If I can do it, anyone can!

  83. american woman on August 31st, 2007 at 5:37 pm

I want to add, it’s not fear it’s laziness. It’s apathy. It’s hair appointments and childrens activities and on and on. It’s let someone else do it for me. It’s I don’t want to be seen doing this kind of thing. Frankly, I think it’s kind of elitist. AZ I am not including your son’s riding lessons in this. When I worked that weekend, people were so receptive. They honked, cheered, etc. I only got the rude jesture one time, and she had long straight hair from the 60’s and drove a mini cooper……. she is excused LOL

What do you know about confidentiality of discovery in civil cases ? Depositions and interrogatories are certainly part of the court record. Are there standard rules of procedure concerning this ? Is it up to the individual judge in each case to rule on these issues ? Does this vary from state to state ? Are federal attitudes about this different than the states ? I haven’t been able to find anything that doesn’t require me to buy some book or document.

I’ve been to busy or tired to post. Big job at work: oil field pipeline manufacturing plant—in Matamoros, Mexico.

Just got finished one building that was 400′ x 200′ with 10 cranes in it, another one that’s 401 feet long x 100 feet wide with a 15ton toprunning crane down the entire length and a 5 ton gantry down half of it, and the one I;m shcking now is 205 feet wide by 903 feet wide with 10 and 15 ton cranes and more gantrys—and that’s just HALF the project done—-

  91. Neocon on August 31st, 2007 at 10:04 pm

    Texpat,

In Texas, discovery responses & depositions are no longer filed with the Court, but exchanged between attorneys. These requests and answers used to be filed with the Court, but they were so voluminous that in 1999 (I believe) the rule was changed to only exchange between attorneys and file a Certificate of Written Discovery with the Court indicating what discovery request had been requested of the other party. Same with the response.

If deposition testimony from a transcript is used in court, then it is a part of the court’s record. If interrogatory answers, document production or other discovery responses are used as an exhibit or other evidence in court, then it too is a part of the court’s record. Each state has its rules of procedure, i.e., Texas Rules of Civil Procedure. The state courts also have local rules which can be found on line. The Federal courts also follow the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. These rules differ from state rules. Also Federal courts also have local rules which can be obtained from the website.

I have referred above to rules of civil procedure. There are also rules of criminal procedure. There are many rules on how cases move through the judicial system and these all vary state by state. Federal does not vary from state to state.

I have the Texas Rules and the Federal Rules if you need anything. As far as confidentiality, generally, if it is part of the record, it can be obtained. Discovery filed prior to 1999 can be obtained. Discovey filed after 1999 probably cannot be obtained, except for what was used during trial, if any.

I think the others will see how this one comes out before jumping in, but I do know I read somewhere that another of the 8 were going to sue. Looking…

From updates, it seems that all these Marines will be cleared. One after the other. Thank God and Ooohhrraaahhh!

  98. marc on August 31st, 2007 at 10:56 pm

I saw the reference from newsmax I think, but deleted the Email. Thanks for the link. I hope the Bastid gets kicked off all of his precious committees. Pelosi (sp) wanted to appoint him to be speaker. Blechhhh.

This is going to be a real weird election cycle, with the Pres’s approval ratings low, but not in the ditch with the congress. Really strange.

  99. sargevining on August 31st, 2007 at 11:00 pm

    Neo;

I’ve got a post coming on the “other blog” regarding Murtha’s History on the entire enterprise, his reaction to the exaonerations, and the lawsuits.

I hope to get it cone this weekend

  100. marc on August 31st, 2007 at 11:01 pm
  101. sargevining on August 31st, 2007 at 11:02 pm

There are tow lawsuits pending, one is a LTC and the other is SGT Wuterichj—who now stands as the ONLY Marine actually accused of the crime still being charged, but the case is shakey, given that the other three accused with him have been exonerated

  102. Neocon on August 31st, 2007 at 11:03 pm

Pelosi was trying to get Murtha appointed Majority Leader, but had to go with Steny Hoyer instead. That makes Pelosi (house speaker) and Hoyer (majority leader) top two posts in the House.

  103. sargevining on August 31st, 2007 at 11:03 pm

If you want a peek, and can get into the drafts on the other place—I’ve already gotten a start on it

  104. sargevining on August 31st, 2007 at 11:05 pm

One of Murtha’s biggest problems right now is that one of the marines who has been exonerated lives in his district——

  105. marc on August 31st, 2007 at 11:06 pm

    Hey, 100, and didn’t notice.

I look forward to your take Sarge. You really need to post it here also. This goes worldwide. Need to get him “retired”.

  108. Neocon on August 31st, 2007 at 11:14 pm

Lt. Col. Jeffrey Chessani and SSgt. Frank Wuterich are both suing ex-Marine Murtha

Brian Rooney, one of the attorneys at Michigan’s Thomas More Law Center representing Lt. Col. Jeffrey Chessani and a former Marine captain himself told NewsMax.com that his client, who is alleged to have failed to fully investigate the killing of 24 Iraqis in Haditha November, 2005 and not reporting an alleged Law of War violation, may follow the example of another Haditha Marine, SSgt. Frank Wuterich who is suing Murtha for libel.
