Some things are just too true to be considered funny. Or is it that some things are too funny to be considered true? I forget.
I’m not sure which category this one falls in. It’s very funny but also very true. I mean, what could be funnier than a guy pretending to be a lawyer, chasing ambulances, sending work to a candidate that drops out of the race for U.S. Senate and remaining a top Democrat fundraiser until a naked woman jumps from his hot tub, runs into a convenience store claiming she was fondled and said fake lawyer runs into said convenience store wearing only a bathrobe, flashing a reserve deputy badge, demanding that the woman be released to his custody?
Follow that? Good. Let’s continue.
Some people say it doesn’t matter where a politician gets their money. Free speech and all. Bull. It matters. Let’s face it, most of us aren’t going to give a politician a whole boatload of money. Sure, they want our money but don’t expect big policy changes or appointments for your hundred bucks because it isn’t going to happen. So, it’s really important that big donors be “vetted” and their donations returned if improper. Right?
Back to the subject at hand. One Mauricio Celis, alleged fake lawyer and fund raiser/donor extraordinaire.
There was a time when it paid to be friends with Mauricio Celis, who rustled up clients for Texas’ swaggering trial lawyers and contributed generously to Democratic candidates, including Hillary Clinton.
But now, Celis’ friends are running for cover.
The luxury-loving Corpus Christi businessman is under investigation on suspicion of impersonating a lawyer and a sheriff’s deputy.
How did he allegedly impersonate a sheriff’s deputy? By presenting a “reserve” deputy badge when a woman jumped out of his hot tub claiming he groped her.
In that case, police reported that a naked woman ran from Celis’ home to a convenience store, claiming she had been in a hot tub and groped against her will. Celis quickly followed her into the store, wearing a bathrobe. He flashed a sheriff’s deputy badge from a nearby county and told police at the store that he would take custody of the woman, police said.
But, BigJolly, you ask, why do you care? This sort of thing happens every day in the Democrat party. Why does this one grab your attention?
Because I happen to live, and vote, in CD-22. And hot tub boy happened to give $4,600 to our current representative, Nick Lampson. Who is there only because of the shenanigans of Ronnie Earl and the ineptness of the Republican Party in getting a name on the ballot. That’s why.
So, I’m looking around, trying to select a candidate in the primary to run against Slick Nick. And I find one, and only one, candidate that calls Slick on the carpet and tells him return hot tub boy’s donation. Pete Olson.
Houston-area Rep. Nick Lampson was given $4,600 by Celis this year; the congressman’s Republican opponent, Pete Olson, has demanded Lampson give the money away.
“Democrats came in preaching that they were going to have big ethics reform, but keeping money like this, tainted money, sort of shows that people put politics over principles,” Olson said.
Interesting. At last count, there were 793 people vying for the Republican nomination in CD-22. Only one, Pete Olson, had the nerve to tell Slick to return hot tub boy’s funds. Which he did.
Now, I’m far from picking a candidate in this race. But that says something to me. Either the other 792 people don’t care or they weren’t informed. Neither answer strikes me as very good. For a constituent of CD-22. Which I am.
Aside from that, the funniest quote I found was this:
Celis’ enemies have dismissed him as just a “runner,” or worse, an ambulance-chaser, for the state’s powerful and well-connected trial lawyers, who are considered the financial foundation of the Democratic Party in Texas, where there are no limits on individual contributions to state races.
Heh. The financial foundation of the Democratic Party in Texas - trial lawyers. Guys that chase ambulances. That should tell you something.

I sincerely hope, for ALL our sakes, that the Repubs do a better job this time. My friends in Beaumont are having WAY too much fun over this. They’re saying they gave Nicki away, and we took him so we have to keep him.
How long did this man pretend to be a lawyer/sheriff’s deputy? I’m not too sympathetic to a woman, running around yelling i’ve been groped, when she is naked in a hot tub with a man! However, he sounds like sleaze.
Agree with you BJ that Pete Olson’s qualifications and stances make him a formidable candidate in the Dist. 22 GOP primary and moreso in the general election against Lampson.
We attended a fundraiser on Saturday for the Foster Museum, preserving the historic Old Foster Community in west Fort Bend County. Pete Olson and his young son were there with friends, no politicking, simply supporting the fundraiser. We crossed paths and chatted for about 5 minutes. I was favorably impressed with his demeanor and his conservative views, and I think he is a man who will not “go wobbly” on them. Just my observation on a chance encounter.
It should not be difficult to retrieve basic non-contradictory accurate government information such as a Congressional District Map, I Googled for such a map, there are lots of maps for many years and often designated by the meeting number, frustrated by perceived inaccuracies I specified the year 2007 and got this www_txdirectory.com/online/ref/ and came up with this:
August 4, 2006 - New Congressional Districts (pdf 1361k),
110th Congressional District Map (jpg 163k) -a crappy little map in b&w,
State of Texas House District Map (pdf 109k),
and more research necessary to reveal a good answer.
Little Johnny Junior should be able to search for “Texas Congressional District Map 2007″ and get a current map with clear supportive information. It should not be written for professionals, they don’t need it.
By the way, my registration card does not have a box marked CD or congressional district, I’m such a d_a_ I thought Congress were both bodies, Senate and House. Good luck ridding yourself of Nick Lampoon.
Anyone but Shelia Jack…oops I mean Shelley Sekula too many other names to remember Slick Nick looks better than she did.
Maybe the newsmedia should expose bogus and questionable donations like the Hillary/ Chinese money laundering earlier this year. This guy in Corpus should be disbarred except he’s not ‘barred’ in the first place.
