Every time you think that the federal government is getting a grip on the magnitude of the problem that illegal immigration presents, they do something to undermine their own efforts.
As we noted here and here, the Irving Police Department is cooperating with I.C.E. in a program called the Criminal Alien Program (CAP). They have seen a reduction in crime and have referred 1,700 illegal aliens to I.C.E. for deportation.
Obviously, this hasn’t set well with those people that want our borders to remain porous, allowing men and women to die in desperate attempts to enter our country. It appears that their continued protests and political pressure has won the day:
Officials with the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement have notified North Texas cities that they want to target for deportation suspected illegal immigrants charged with more serious crimes and will no longer detain most of those arrested for Class C misdemeanors.
Carl Rusnok, a spokesman for ICE, said Tuesday there had been a recent spike in the number of referrals to the agency because of increased awareness of the Criminal Alien Program.
In other words, the cooperation between the City of Irving and I.C.E. worked so well that they are going to back off. What kind of nonsense is this? But, Bigjolly, you say, it’s only Class C misdemeanors!
Class C misdemeanors include speeding, assault, public intoxication and hot checks.
So, in addition to their being here illegally in the first place, it’s no big thing to attack someone, get drunk and put others lives in their hands or to defraud businesses? Dare I say you gotta be kidding me?
Irving officials estimate that of the 1,700 referred for deportation, 60% of them would not have been deported under the new I.C.E. guidelines. That would be 1,020 of these criminals still walking the streets of the U.S., assaulting people, getting drunk and carousing around or defrauding honest businessmen. Unreal.
Hispanic leaders and activists were pleased with the ICE decision.
“We said to the Irving authorities that the way they were proceeding was wrong because they were not affecting criminals but families for totally unjustified reasons,” Mexican Consul Enrique Hubbard Urrea said.
He had issued a warning in September to immigrants from his country to avoid the city so they wouldn’t be deported.
Hispanic leaders are pleased. No kidding. They now have more power. The only families it was affecting were the families of two time criminals. Now he can rescind the warning and put out the clarion call for the criminals to come back to Irving, I.C.E. will welcome their criminal behavior! Good grief this is pathetic.
“A program called the Criminal Alien Program should not be focused on misdemeanors and first-time offenses,” said Alberto Ruiz, a co-founder of a group called Irving Forward. The group defends illegal and legal immigrants and pushes for voter registration for those with U.S. citizenship.
Think about that. A program with CRIMINAL as the first word should not be focused on criminals. There is a long list of words I could use right now but, in deference to Mr. Benzion, I’ll refrain.

I wish common sense was more common.
All efforts to deport illegal aliens makes for good press but until you close the borders, they will be back. Let’s see if they keep any statistics on repeat offenders.
When you flick the light on, roaches run away. When you turn them back off, they return.
Question:
What “Class” crime is entering the country illigally?
If it’s not now Class “A” (or whatever is the highest classification) steps should be taken immediately to see that it is!
Does the “three strike” rule apply here? After three violations you go to prison and we don’t have to worry about you ever coming back accross the border!!!!!! ever again!!!!!
Wouldn’t this be a good time of the year to increase border security since many illegal immigrants will be heading south for the holidays and then we can catch them returning north?
And it is real odd that many construction projects grind to a halt this time of year but ICE never raids them looking for illegals.
Apparently ICE does not want to do the job they are paid to do.
We, as taxpayers, should demand accountabiliy from of elected representives.
Would it not be great for Pelosi to have to ask ICE why they will not do their job?
So let me see if I understand this correct.
If I fail to take care of a speeding ticket and later stopped for something else in a different county, I’ll be hauled of to jail and then transferred to the county were I had my warrant.
However, if I were an illegal alien and I was arrested for assault, I wouldn’t be turned over to the jurisdiction, ICE, where I had previously committed a crime, illegal immigration.
Yeah, I defiinitely want them taking over the medical system for me as well. Then, with any luck, I’ll be put in line for an operation behind the illegal aliens, despite the fact that I’m not only a citizen but I’m paying for everyone’s medical treatement, and I’ll end up dying before the operation and they won’t receive any more of my tax money. That will teach them a lesson. Of course while I’m waiting for my operation, I’ll make sure I donate everything I have to my church so that they don’t get any of it.

Let’s get over it! Fact of the matter is that we don’t have the resources to deport everybody. We’ll go bankrupt trying. Besides why so much effort over something that isn’t even a crime. While Illegal Entry is a crime, what these people are really guilty of is Unauthorized Presence which is only a civil violaton, not even a crime. What a waste of time and money! Let the feds do their job!!

That’s one of the dumbest things I’ve ever read. The illegal who sneaked into the country is “unauthorized” only because he committed the crime of illegal entry.
