My grandfather was fond of telling me how his father reacted to the institution of a federal income tax. He ignored it. A self employed farmer, he received cash for much of his crops, and paid the help weekly or even daily, in cash.
To him, the concept of maintaining meticulous records so he could figure out how much of his money to give to the government was ridiculous.

Last Saturday I saw a sign selling Pitt Bull pups for $100. I complained to a Manager Elliot. He said that they couldn’t patrol the parking lot and when they knew about it they called Tomball PD and asked them to have them leave. Elliot knew I was an officer so would I tell them to leave. Simple enough.
Well I was off duty in plain clothes but I had my badge and ID with me so I approached the Hispanic woman and here daughter(I think) and asked them to leave. She asked me why and I told her. Job done right? Wrong.
When I returned to my car I saw a black male get out of a Tractor and approached the woman. So since I had my dog with me I went back with her to see what the problem was.
The black male was belligerent with me so I asked him for his ID. He further kept being a pill so I told him I’d arrest him. He gave up the ID.
While I’m on the phone with my dispatcher another SUV much like the one the female was in pulled up on my left. I didn’t pay much attention to it till my dog alerted and I saw some one approaching me. I told them to get back in the vehicle and leave. They hesitated so I had the dog encourage them and they left the scene.
The black male had a criminal history, but no current warrants. The Hispanic woman left and the Black male left so I got back in my car and I left.
The importance of this is that it wasn’t just some woman trying to make a buck selling dogs, but it was a gang. The B/M was watching the woman. The other vehicle was in the parking lot watching the woman.
Yesterday I went back to Wal-Mart and talked to Manager Keith and he said that they were “too busy” to keep checking the lot and that Tomball PD would take care of the lot should they call them. Interpretation is “we don’t care”.
I used to shop there however I had an incident I did not like about a year ago.
Purchased some Smirnoff Ice. Got to the counter and the clerk asked for ID. I handed her my TDL and she swiped it. She than asked “Do you have a current one ?” (I keep my old ones in case I lose my current one)
And I thought to myself ”Congress is pushing for a national ID which will carry our medical, credit etc on it. Will Wal Mart swipe that also ?

#10 Adee - My daughter and family are visiting friends in Wisconsin for New Year’s. I sure hope they are careful. My son-in-law is a great driver but not use to the ice and snow.
Butch, the spouse and I were bred and born in the Midwest. A good rule to follow is don’t do anything fast on snowy roads as there can be ice hidden underneath. The best, the most beautiful way of responding would have been for Angela Merkel, George Bush, Gordon Brown and Nicolas Sarkozy to have gone immediately to Pakistan for her funeral.
I don’t think I’ve heard a more ridiculous suggestion. Send the heads of state of four of the most prominent countries in the world into a riotous mass of 150,000 irrational grieving and screaming Pakistanis, many no doubt armed to the teeth.
Washington, DC (AP) Just days before the first primaries, President Bush used his weekly radio address to alert the country to the dangers of what he termed a “revolutionary” election, stating that it was his duty as Decider-in-Chief to determine the outcome of both parties’ primaries.
snip
Meanwhile, supporters of the so called Ron Paul Revolution, who already had their panties seriously knotted over Fox News’s attempt to exclude Ron Paul from a forum, immediately held peaceful protests in 300 cities. During the 36 hour long events, Ron Paul supporters used their Blackberrys to contribute over $500 Million dollars to RonPaul2008.com
The Democrats responded by circulating another petition to seek the release of the campaign staff of anti-war candidate Dennis Kucinich, whose staff and supporters are being held at Guantanamo Bay “for their own protection” according to the President.
I’ll defer to the LEOs in the crowd, but aren’t parking lots considered private property? I think it would be up to Walmart to hire private or off-duty LEOs to patrol their parking lot. If there are problems occurring it is Walmart’s responsibility, not the Tomball police.
Dow - I could be wrong but luv2hammer and faster can probably answer that question.
The shopping complex on the west side of I-45 between West Rd and Aldine Mail Route has gotten pretty bad too. There are pickups and vans set up in the parking lot selling counterfeit shoes, cologne, handbags, etc. Some of them get pretty pushy. There’s a Walmart there too. I’ve complained to the manager at Academy but they didn’t seem too worried. I would complain at Walmart but I don’t shop there ; - )
Tomball PD has been notorious for some of their actions. I have seen some ridiculous things out of them.
Sample
A young single mother headed home in the evening. Kansas plates. Gets pulled over and checked out.. Clean. Supervisor shows on the scene as the Patrolman is letting her slide.
Superviser sees a Texas inspection sticker on the windshield. Tells her she can not have this on a Texas car and peels it off and books her for possible possession of a stolen sticker. After she is booked and her car towed her father comes down highly pi$$ed off.
Informs the idiot superviser that in the state of Texas when you are titling an out of state vehicle it must be safety inspected first. They made her post bond too.
Exactly why I refuse to go to Tomball unless it is really important. I won’t donate to the Tomball PD coffers.

and therein lies the reason why the problem needs to be reported to corporate.
Remind them that if they have been warned of possible criminal activity in thier parking lot, and nothing is done to warn or protect customers or employees, then Texas courts will hold them liable.
56 hamous if the store is not going to protect me and the cops won’t a person should be able to take his friend Fred with him shopping. Someone has to be in charge of security for the public.
#62 dow - I agree. I’d take Fred with me too. Although my friend’s name is Lucille, like BB King’s guitar. But Sarge brings up a good point. Have you complained to Walmart at a corporate level? Linking to the story may give them a little incentive to tighten security in their parking lots.
Hamous i do not shop at that Tomball store. If i did i would not complain - i would ask for the store manager and tell the story and show him fred is my friend and since he or the cops won’t protect me is it ok if i shop.
We should not need to point out these issues to these businesses all of the time like they are children. Doing it with these politicians is enough!! Heck i even now quit doing the politicians after the first time - if they persist i vote for the opposite party in that spot in the general.
I fell in the Walmart parking lot after an injury (fell off the kitchen ladder) in Richmond/Rosenberg late at night not long ago. Cracked my head on the concrete like a watermelon and knocked myself out. Awoke to being scooped off the pavement by two security guards loading me in their little golf cart w/ flashing lights. They took me back into the store and kept me there until they were sure I could drive home.
I could have been robbed, run over or worse. So I guess not ALL Walmart parking lots are w/o security.
Saw a documentary on the dangers of Walmart parking lots. Lots of rapes, robberies and kidnappings all over the country. The documentary stated it was due to $$ and Walmart’s refusal to pay the costs for proper security.
After seeing that, I googled “Walmart parking lots” and there are a lot of links on this subject.
Hi everyone! Hope everything works out for y’all. Popped in to wish everyone a safe and happy New Years. Don’t forget to eat your blackeyed peas and cabbage tomorrow. /pssst! Here’s a great recipe for cabbage….

65 Well that is true but luv2 already hit the manager he could care less and forwarding that on to corporate should work but who knows today.
Then what is needed is a period of unemployment to focus the manager’s mind on his responsibilities to the customer.
I bet HE isn’t going to tell his bosses—so somebody might want to.
Bernard Henri-Levy is a super celebrity in France as only a writer in France can be. He actually has some good qualities about him and furthermore he is pro-American. Beyond that, the only other redeeming quality I can find about him is he is married to this woman:
Just wanted to pop in and wish a Hoggy New Year to all you crazy infidels. Been busier than a 3 legged Razorback in a Tiger whuppin’ contest. Only one more and the losers cage will be full of ‘em.
I made several comments here after the Omaha mall shooting concerning liability. I believe the time is ripe for a lawsuit against one of these management companies for negligence in maintaining proper security. I am particularly addressing those properties that prohibit persons with CCW permits not being allowed to bring their weapons onto the facility.
I am surprised this hasn’t been pursued before. These malls and mega-store parking lots are private property, but they are what is called a public accomodation so their responsibility for the safety of their customers extends beyond the parameters normally accepted for private property. These companies are open to the public and invite the public to enter their facilities everyday. Something has to give in this situation. Once a big case is filed and won, they will all change their attitude and behavior towards the security of their customers.
#86 Remember the shootings in Temple at a Luby’s several years back where a woman w/ a CCW permit had to leave her pistol in the car while her parent’s were being slaughtered? Didn’t she fight to change the laws? Whatever happened with that?
Liz, she had a pistol, but no permit because we didn’t have permits then. That was what pushed Suzzanna Gratia Hupp to get the legislation passed and run for office and win herself. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suzanna_Hupp
#88 Thanks for the info Big45Iron. Killeen must be near Temple because I remember visiting my brother who lived in Temple at the time and we drove past that Luby’s which was boarded up. It was a horrible sight.

Combine all in a bowl. Mix gently. Cover and refrigerate for several hours, to let flavors set. Drain off salad dressing before serving. ( you won’t get all of it drained off, but that’s ok. Serve with favorite chips or crackers.

CONCORD – New Hampshire Republican Party Chairman Fergus Cullen releases the following statement regarding primary weekend debates:
“Limiting the number of candidates who are invited to participate in debates is not consistent with the tradition of the first in the nation primary. The level playing field requires that all candidates be given an equal opportunity to participate – not just a select few determined by the media prior to any votes being cast.”
“Therefore, the New Hampshire Republican Party calls upon all media organizations planning pre-primary debates or forums for both parties to include all recognized major candidates in their events.”
“The New Hampshire Republican Party has notified FOX News of our position, and we are in ongoing discussions with FOX News about having as many candidates as possible participate in the forum scheduled for January 6.”
Hope y’all have a good new year. Remember this:

Liz, sis has already been snowed in for a couple of days, two weeks ago. She has the heater for the pump house. She has the heat lamp for the cats in the garage, and her propane tank is 3/4 full. Malcolm and the Mrs.
MANCHESTER – Driving was difficult this morning. Six inches and more of snow fell across the state. And there’s another winter storm — perhaps bigger — headed here on New Year’s Day.
Forty-three inches of snow have fallen this month in the state capital, tying a record set in 1876, according to the U.S. Weather Service.
Hydrometeorologist James Brown in Gray, Maine, said preliminary measurements taken at 7 a.m. today put the snowfall amount at 8.6 inches.
With Concord predicted to get up to a foot of snow today, Brown expects the city will break the 131-year-old record for the amount of snowfall in the month of December .
Since last month, 45.1 inches of snow has fallen in the capital.
“Snow Emergency” Heh.
That’s when you wake up and say
“Where’d all this frikkin snow come from?”
How much snow can they get?
The city’s seasonal record (from about November through April) is 122 inches, set in 1873-74.
That’s right. The “Snow Season” is 6 months long. After the first two months of this year, they’ve got just a bit more than 1/3 of what the record is.
BTW, 122 inches of snow is 10 feet two inches of frozen stuff laying on the ground—everywhere but the placs you’ve shoveled it out of. Over and over again.
Ring out wild bells, to a wild sky,
the flying cloud, the frosty light,
the year is dying on the night,
Ring out wild bells and let him die.
Ring out the old, ring in the new,
ring happy bells across the snow,
the year is going, let him go.
Ring out the false, ring in the true.
Ring out the grief that saps the mind
for those that here we see no more.
Ring out the feud of rich and poor,
Ring in redress to all mankind.
Ring out the slowly dying cause
and ancient forms of party strife,
ring in the nobler modes of life,
with sweeter manners and purer laws.
Ring out the want, the care, the sin,
the faithless coldness of the times,
Ring out my mournful rhymes, but ring
the fuller minstrel in.
Ring out old shapes of foul disease,
ring out the narrowing lust for gold,
ring out the thousand wars of old,
Ring in the thousand years of peace!
Ring in the valiant man and free
the larger heart and kindly-er hand.
Ring out the darkness from the land,
Ring in the Christ that is to be!
Alfred Lord Tennyson
Happy New Year to all and let’s all try to make the world a better place and improve ourselves by becoming more educated as far as our physical, spiritual, mental and emotional selves.
Happy New Year!

Tommy Cryer alleges that four IRS criminal investigation division employees tried to destroy his reputation during the course of the investigation.

i even emailed the chamber of commerce and the city of Tomball. They must be to busy with tickets to patrol the wal mart parking lot.
I’ll defer to the LEOs in the crowd, but aren’t parking lots considered private property? I think it would be up to Walmart to hire private or off-duty LEOs to patrol their parking lot. If there are problems occurring it is Walmart’s responsibility, not the Tomball police.
Hamous with that logic i’ll have to carry Fred on my next Wal Mart trip.
I would complain at Walmart but I don’t shop there ; - )
dow
I won’t donate to the Tomball PD coffers.
whoops meant “kansas car”
#48 Texpat and 51 Hamous. Perhaps we could include the WSJ editorial bunch in the wine- tasting scanario? Holiday cheer and all that?
Wow dov what a story. glad i don’t shop there anymore.
and therein lies the reason why the problem needs to be reported to corporate.
One might include a copy of this:
http://privateofficerbreakingnews.wordpress.com/2007/11/11/assault-victim-wins-suit-against-mall-security-wwwprivateofficercom/
When they do.
Heck i even now quit doing the politicians after the first time - if they persist i vote for the opposite party in that spot in the general.
dow, how is the corporate office supposed to know if no one tells them?
I fell in the Walmart parking lot after an injury (fell off the kitchen ladder) in Richmond/Rosenberg late at night not long ago. Cracked my head on the concrete like a watermelon and knocked myself out. Awoke to being scooped off the pavement by two security guards loading me in their little golf cart w/ flashing lights. They took me back into the store and kept me there until they were sure I could drive home.
I could have been robbed, run over or worse. So I guess not ALL Walmart parking lots are w/o security.
65 Well that is true but luv2 already hit the manager he could care less and forwarding that on to corporate should work but who knows today.
Just when you think there is commeon sense in this world crap happens.
Texpat and Adee.
Maybe they are trying to sabotage the place before they all get their pink slips from the Man…The New Man.
Hi everyone! Hope everything works out for y’all. Popped in to wish everyone a safe and happy New Years. Don’t forget to eat your blackeyed peas and cabbage tomorrow. /pssst! Here’s a great recipe for cabbage….
slice cabbage into quarters, brown bacon a little, put raw cabbage, bacon, salt, pepper and butter into foil. Place on grill away from heat. Grill for about 30 minutes. MMMMM……
Then what is needed is a period of unemployment to focus the manager’s mind on his responsibilities to the customer.
I bet HE isn’t going to tell his bosses—so somebody might want to.
Would do him a lot of good, IMHO.
HMMM! there is a problem in here - is it safe for delivery?

See now Wal Mart better keep those bathrooms clean for birthing.
#72 I wonder how often that horribly disgusting kind of thing happens and people get away with it.
Liz we live in strange times. Strange students strange parents breed stange things - just strange.
Here are the phone numbers for a few execs at Wal Mart
http://consumerist.com/338904/reach-walmart-vice-chairman-john-menzer-and-742-other-walmart-employees
I avoid both Walmart and Tomball for a multiplicity of reasons.
Happy New Year all!
BTW, Go Ron Paul!
If you want to eat black-eyed peas and don’t like em that much, the dip recipe I posted when Big Jolly was collecting recipes is delish.
This is something to mull over. Fortworth doesn’t like bible reading on their city buses.

#78 AW - Can you post it again please? Sarge and I like black eyed peas but the kids don’t. And a good dip is appreciated any time of year.
Anyone have a valid email for headshaker?
I think that’s why she married me—–

Bernard Henri-Levy is a super celebrity in France as only a writer in France can be. He actually has some good qualities about him and furthermore he is pro-American. Beyond that, the only other redeeming quality I can find about him is he is married to this woman:

#81 I think I do but don’t know how to get it to you.
Just wanted to pop in and wish a Hoggy New Year to all you crazy infidels. Been busier than a 3 legged Razorback in a Tiger whuppin’ contest. Only one more and the losers cage will be full of ‘em.
Good luck to all in the coming year.

Retail Store Security
Liz, here ya go…… Blackeyed pea dip
2 cans blackeyed peas ( drained)
1 small can green chilis ( chopped)
2 small tomatoes ( chopped0
2 avacados ( chopped)
1 small Zesty Italian dressing
Combine all in a bowl. Mix gently. Cover and refrigerate for several hours, to let flavors set. Drain off salad dressing before serving. ( you won’t get all of it drained off, but that’s ok. Serve with favorite chips or crackers.
Headin’ out to party for the evening. luv2hammer, FYI we’ll be staying put at one location until tomorrow afternoon
Everyone have a safe and happy New Years Eve!
I am also sending out a hot crab dip that I love
1/2 cup milk
1/3 cup salsa
1 bunch green onions chopped
1 can chopped green chilis
2 cans crab meat, remove cartilage or get some without
3 pkgs cream cheese
cayenne pepper and salt to taste
mix together in small bowl with spices. Serve warm.
Happy New Year Hamous…….. have fun, be safe.
#90 Thanks AW! I will try it!
AW - just heard from the kiddo - said temp is dropping fast in Illinois and supposed to be in the negatives tonight. He said it’s supposed to be one of the hardest cold fronts in years. (And of course he is bullet proof and going OUT!)
Hope your sis and farm prepares.
Note: This is NOT a spoof…
NH REPUBLICANS: DON’T LIMIT DEBATE PARTICIPANTS
Any day that starts with you above ground has potential!
We have been blessed by our creator to either be born or relocated to the greatest country on earth, America!! We’ll start next year as Americans, and we’ll finish it that way too!

You and I are in total agreement that it is wrong to limit the candidates in those debates. I believe there is an obligation to include all the candidates.
No snide remarks from me.
Like him or not Ron Paul is a national candidate, well funded and the people should be afforded every opportunity hear the candidates together.
I would never have voted for Ralph Nader but it showed me what the Democrats were made of in ‘04 when they spent so much time fighting him to keep him off the ballots. If memory serves he did get on 40+ states. If that is not national I do not know what is. Here once again the FOXNEWS shows me they are no better than the Demcorats.
and are Republican shill elitist.
Damnit Ron Paul I wish you saw things my way on National Defense and foreign policy.
Liz, sis has already been snowed in for a couple of days, two weeks ago. She has the heater for the pump house. She has the heat lamp for the cats in the garage, and her propane tank is 3/4 full. She’ll hunker down and make good winter food, a big pot of something. I can just see her with her thermals, sweats, and an old quilt wrapped around her. If she doesn’t loose power, she will just watch tv and weather it out.
Damnit Squawkbox, you and I see eye to eye so often, I just wish you saw things Ron Paul’s way on National Defense and foreign policy
To you and everyone at LST, Happy New Year!

Snow?

“Snow Emergency” Heh.
That’s when you wake up and say
“Where’d all this frikkin snow come from?”
How much snow can they get?
That’s right. The “Snow Season” is 6 months long. After the first two months of this year, they’ve got just a bit more than 1/3 of what the record is.
BTW, 122 inches of snow is 10 feet two inches of frozen stuff laying on the ground—everywhere but the placs you’ve shoveled it out of. Over and over again.
And this is in SOUTHERN New Hampster.
How ’bout that Global Warming, huh?
HappydamNewYear to everybody.
Thank the Lord you’re in Texas.
Ring out wild bells, to a wild sky,
the flying cloud, the frosty light,
the year is dying on the night,
Ring out wild bells and let him die.
Ring out the old, ring in the new,
ring happy bells across the snow,
the year is going, let him go.
Ring out the false, ring in the true.
Ring out the grief that saps the mind
for those that here we see no more.
Ring out the feud of rich and poor,
Ring in redress to all mankind.
Ring out the slowly dying cause
and ancient forms of party strife,
ring in the nobler modes of life,
with sweeter manners and purer laws.
Ring out the want, the care, the sin,
the faithless coldness of the times,
Ring out my mournful rhymes, but ring
the fuller minstrel in.
Ring out old shapes of foul disease,
ring out the narrowing lust for gold,
ring out the thousand wars of old,
Ring in the thousand years of peace!
Ring in the valiant man and free
the larger heart and kindly-er hand.
Ring out the darkness from the land,
Ring in the Christ that is to be!
