    My lawd ! Unbelievable

  2. Dov on January 3rd, 2008 at 6:20 pm

This can’t be true ! I am not going to lean either way in the court of opinion however to refuse to resign, than withdraw from the race and refile for the race.

Credibility UpChuck. You are not doing your political career any good.

  3. RickG on January 3rd, 2008 at 6:22 pm

I wonder if he would re-re-consider if we can get that woman to let him kiss her behind the ear (the right one, I believe, though in my experience, there is no wrong ear of a woman).

  4. american woman on January 3rd, 2008 at 6:27 pm

Doesn’t this just prove that power and money are so intoxicating, common sense is void? The man is addicted to his title. He needs PEE ( Power elite expulsion) hehe

  5. RickG on January 3rd, 2008 at 6:27 pm

At least Chuck wasn’t emailing from the airport men’s room.

  6. Fasternu 426 on January 3rd, 2008 at 6:38 pm

If he were a dhimmicrat, he could get caught being made airtight by Richard Simmons and George Michael in a hot tub and it would be ok. It wouldn’t even be a blip on the radar.

    Maybe he should switch parties?

  7. RickG on January 3rd, 2008 at 6:51 pm

    7. Faster

Maybe we DO need a third party. The Sexicans or the Eroticrats?

  8. hamous on January 3rd, 2008 at 6:57 pm

I think they need to form a third party.

  9. texpat on January 4th, 2008 at 12:27 am

Democratic candidate Bradford is/was a law partner of Lloyd Kelley, who filed the lawsuit which started this whole mess. I knew there was much more to this story than meets the eye. What a can of worms.

  10. texpat on January 4th, 2008 at 12:28 am

Lloyd Kelley also opposed Rosenthal in the DA race in 2000.

  11. Shannon on January 4th, 2008 at 7:50 am

Kelly S. will whip his ass. No contest.

  12. Simple Simon on January 4th, 2008 at 8:01 am

    Gee David,

Is Chuck the most arrogant Republican in Harris County? That sets the bar pretty high even for Rosenthal.

    Simple

  13. David Benzion on January 4th, 2008 at 8:02 am

    I know.

  14. Peter on January 4th, 2008 at 8:22 am

Is there a jelly fish farm whre the Republican Party (not just candidates) are raised?

Seriously, it seems like Republican politicians can do whatever they want without reprecussion. We’ve witnessed for years that the party “platform” is optional. How many times have we seen a district switch from Blue to Red and have a Democrat say “Hey, I’m now a Republican, can I be your candidate?” And the party answers, “Of course” even though they refuse to act or vote like conservatives. I guess the only thing that counts is if there is that R and not a D attached beside the name. The conventions must be great parties considering that every Republican fears making waves and being invited.

Here’s an idea, if Clinton does make a comeback against Obama, but Obama is favored for the general election and shows stronger than Huckabee or Romney against her, maybe the Repulican Party can ask Obama to run on their ticket. They can tell him he can still do whatever he wants, just as long as he says he’s a Republican. Hey, it works in Texas.

  15. Lawrence C. on January 4th, 2008 at 8:30 am

I think the rumors are that Kerry and Kelley were enjoying a Chuckie sammitch.

  16. Lawrence C. on January 4th, 2008 at 8:31 am

This could really be a fun thread when all LST’ers weigh in on just what their version of “worst guess to the 10th power” rumors could be.

  17. Gibonno on January 4th, 2008 at 9:18 am

Go ahead and file so we can see what a dilutional
politician looks like going down in flames!

  18. Ghost Rider on January 4th, 2008 at 9:24 am

Bradford’s entire campaign is premised on a matchup against Rosenthal. Without Rosenthal to run against, Bradford is stuck with his own abysmal record.

For my own part, I was looking forward to a campaign whose slogan might have been “Chucky Got Lucky”.

  19. David Benzion on January 4th, 2008 at 9:27 am

    Hint: It ain’t about sex.

  20. Lawrence C. on January 4th, 2008 at 9:36 am

I guess that leaves Drugs and Rock & Roll.

  21. The Reformed One on January 4th, 2008 at 9:47 am

David, you should run for DA. They need someone who can wield a true “Sword of Righteousness”!

  22. Jeremy 'Panda Man' Weidenhof on January 4th, 2008 at 9:59 am

Did Chuckie prosecute with a “wide stance?”

  23. Rorschach on January 4th, 2008 at 10:04 am

Why do I get the feeling the emails were a smoking gun about the destruction and/or manufacture of evidence in criminal cases tried by the DA’s office?

I smell another Bromwitch investigation in the offing.

  24. BarryM on January 4th, 2008 at 10:18 am

Gee, ya know it doesn’t make sense. Ole’ RINO Chucky “hating guns” Rosenthal is missing an opportunity to go the private sector and make the big bucks. I mean an arrogant butt-grabbin’ lawyer with 2 big county DA terms on his resume is a shoe-in for partner at a big bucks law firm.

We don’t need someone so prideful as DA. Besides, he harrases and prosecutes gun owners and those who use deadly force to defend themselves. He should change to the other party.

  25. thunder on January 4th, 2008 at 10:19 am

Poster Child of the downfall of the Republican Party. If the party will not clean up it’s own ratholes, then they will destroy themselves from within….

We have a number of State Reps and senators that needed opponents… and needed to go, yet they have more money and are around for another 2-4 years…WHY?

We have a County Commissioner that should be in jail…. but

  26. BarryM on January 4th, 2008 at 10:25 am

If you think the situation with HPD is bad now, wait until former HPD chief “stab-a-cop-in-the-back” Bradford gets elected to HC DA.
If you think crime is bad now with all the Katrina Scum that won’t leave and the illegal alien gangs that keep moving in, wait until the demoncrats elect Bradford. You’ll hear that great big sucking sound as professional cops take better jobs in other cities without the garbage that comes with the above liberal socialist politics. Expect an attempt at a gun ban of some sort in the city also.

  27. squawkbox on January 4th, 2008 at 10:38 am

“Chuck has already done serious damage to this party and it’s time for the healing to begin.”

    Should read

“Chuck has already done serious damage to this party and it’s time for the hearings to begin.”

  28. Fasternu 426 on January 4th, 2008 at 11:01 am

    Go Kelly Siegler!!!

    Not a politician, she’s just what’s needed!

  29. KRAUT on January 4th, 2008 at 11:39 am

My take on this is that everything else aside,
I just don’t think of Mr. Rosenthal being a good DA. He looks to me to being one of the good ole boys who run city hall and county gvmt. I think that he should have prosecuted some of the wrong doers in city hall. It looks to me that a lot of things were swept under the carpet.

  30. DanielJames on January 4th, 2008 at 1:33 pm

By healing to begin they really mean just go away. We need the truth to heal. Lets have it.

  31. Matt Bramanti on January 4th, 2008 at 2:33 pm

Rosenthal was banging his secretary when he was married, and maybe still is when he’s married again. That’s pretty bad.

Rosenthal was, shall we say less than niggardly with county resources when it came to equipping his secretary. That’s pretty bad, too.

But I suspect there’s something a whole lot darker here, and it’s going to get a LOT worse.

  32. Wolf Bite on January 4th, 2008 at 2:39 pm

    Good Day All;

It is about time the Chucky was exposed. Now for anyone to think that the Republicans can produce a responsible replacement is foolish, Democrats are even worse. My suggestion is to vote for Mickey Mouse at least he will allow you your due process which has not happened in any court in Harris County in decades.

Please get ready to make some guy rich because your former DA was a thug and criminal. Every time I pick up the commical I read about some case that was overturned thanks to the scam promoted by the Harris Co. DA. Can not wait to hear how the guy arrested because he filmed the Sheriff performing his alleged duties. And DA thumps the poor guy. Had a Deputy stepped upon my property it would have been a lot worse for the Deputy. The DA has allowed these revenuers to run rough shod over the People. Wonder who is in bed with Chucky besides his girlfriend and Wife.

    Just my humble opinion.

    Wolf Bite

  33. David Benzion on January 4th, 2008 at 2:41 pm

    Matt # 31

    Dark days indeed.

If what I’m hearing (from multiple, credible sources) is true, the contents of Rosenthal’s “deleted” emails certainly have the potential to result in a black eye for justice in Harris County.

  34. Phil_M on January 4th, 2008 at 2:44 pm

Chuck’s been rather niggardly in his willingness to turn over the rest of the emails. I wonder why that is?

  35. David Benzion on January 4th, 2008 at 2:47 pm

#34 Phil– he must be trying to white wash whatever was in them.

  36. Phil_M on January 4th, 2008 at 2:48 pm

#33 - If Rosenthal doesn’t go soon the HC criminal justice system in for a rough couple of years. Black eyes, black marks, black faces…CHuck has certainly made things interesting.

  37. texpat on January 4th, 2008 at 2:49 pm

    #19 Benzion

I am going to guess this is not about money, but concerns some other aspect of Rosenthal’s character. If it is not about sex or money, it must be a serious flaw such as racial bigotry or disdain for constitutional principles, like due process, or both. The possibility criminals could be freed wholesale because of the demonstrable racial hostility and/or disregard for his constitutional duties by the Harris County DA is really pretty scary. It makes Bradford’s crime lab scandal pale in comparison.

PLEASE NOTE: This is pure speculation on my part. I do not know any more about the Rosenthal e-mails than any other reader here.

  38. Phil_M on January 4th, 2008 at 2:53 pm

#37 - While bigotry remains to be seen and is anybody’s guess, I hear that Chuck styles himself as quite the jokester. Perhaps even a modern day comic minstrel.

  39. David Benzion on January 4th, 2008 at 2:59 pm

    #38 Phil

We can only hope UpChuck doesn’t bamboozle the voters once again.

  40. Phil_M on January 4th, 2008 at 3:00 pm

#40 - As Al Jolson once said, “you ain’t seen nothin yet!”

  41. JohnRH on January 4th, 2008 at 3:00 pm

Whatever the contents of the emails, he’s sure to become the Republican party’s bete noire…

  42. KRAUT on January 4th, 2008 at 3:11 pm

It shows how much they flaunt their power, nothing else seems to matter anymore. This sort of situation seems to be worse in Houston. It isn’t important anymore to do what is right, the urge to stay in power at all cost trumps all.

  43. texpat on January 4th, 2008 at 3:17 pm

    David / Phil

I get the picture. This is really, really bad.

  44. texpat on January 4th, 2008 at 3:37 pm

If Lloyd Kelley had had this evidence and sat on it until this October, he could’ve walked his partner, Bradford, right into office. He would have, as they say, “controlled the rollout” and “owned the narrative”. Kelley has to be kicking himself, even though he couldn’t have known Rosenthal would be so astoundingly stupid about e-mail.
