Last fall during a nationally televised presidential debate, Sen. Barack Obama hesitantly raised his hand and joined with most of his Democratic rivals to declare that he opposed decriminalizing marijuana.
But as a candidate for the U.S. Senate four years ago, Mr. Obama told Illinois college students that he supported eliminating criminal penalties for marijuana use or possession, according to a videotape of a little noticed debate that was obtained by The Washington Times.
“I think we need to rethink and decriminalize our marijuana laws,” Mr. Obama told an audience during a debate at Northwestern University in 2004. “But I’m not somebody who believes in legalization of marijuana.”
Asked about the two different answers, Mr. Obama’s presidential campaign said he in fact has “always” supported decriminalizing marijuana as he answered in 2004, meaning the candidate mistakenly raised his hand during the presidential debate last fall.
Ooopsie.
Question: Is there a difference between decriminalizing and legalizing?
Looks like Mr. Obama is now getting “vetted”.
Mr. Obama’s differing answers on marijuana are among a half-dozen conflicts between positions he took while running for Senate in 2004 and those he now articulates while running for president, a review of debate tapes shows. Other conflicts range from ending the embargo against Cuba to providing health care for illegal immigrants.

Empty suit, but he speaks well… Just have to listen WHAT he’s saying. His delivery is good though…

Maybe he’ll have to go see what Allah thinks about it before he can give a solid answer.
I wonder what would happen to the legal systems, DEA, and the prison systems if they did legalize it. I bet there would be a lot of empty jails, and a huge boom in the fast food industry.
Not so articulate, eh Mr. Biden? I’m sure he’s still clean..
Without getting into a high school term paper to legalizing mj, as rabidly conservative as I am, I could almost see legalizing it with restrictions.. much like Alcohol.. think of all the sales tax they could collect! Plus empty some jails for possession charges..
The best synopsis of Sen. Obama’s campaign was by Hannity the other day. Doth quote Hannity - “Senator Obama’s campaign has been spectacularly shallow”
It’s about change, man…
Smoking pot makes you forget stuff….
…what were we talking about?
If I wanted to make “change” I’d get a job at McDonalds.
Yeah man, McDonald’s… I could grub on a Supersize Fries and some chicken nuggets about now, man…..

Having been a child of the 60’s I can safely say I never got a DUI from Marijuana. I left it behind but I feel it isn’t near the problem people think it is.
If Uncle Sam could figure out a way to control it, tax it, and reap the benefits of the $$$ they would legalize it.
And like Maltboy said, the Fast Food Industry would thrive. Especially Jack in the box
Dov, do you really think that pot would be as popular if it was not so taboo?

Probably not
SO I was working some OT on the west side of town trying to scoop up some Katrina evacuees and assist them in getting back to LA. I see a dude breaking the law and make contact with him. After trying to drop some doobage on the ground, I arrest him. In his possession, he has a City/County of San Francisco Medical Marihuana Card. (Issued by the city/county government giving him the legal authority to be in possession)
He looked pretty healthy to me so I asked him what malady he had that required doobage. He told me he had a crash on his snowboard. When I asked if he was high when he was snowboarding, he replied that he was and acknowledged that he might not have crashed if he was not high. Hmmmmmm. He told me it was a huge scam and anyone can go to the “right doctor” to get the card. He also told me when he got out of jail, he was going back to CA.

The earth is our mother just turning around
With her trees in the forest and roots underground
Our father above us who’s sigh is the wind
Paint us a rainbow without any end
As the river runs freely the mountain does rise
Let me touch with my fingers and see with my eyes
In the hearts of the children of pure love still roams
Like a bright star in heaven that lights our way home
Like the flower that shattered the stone
