I don’t know how to build a link, so I’ll have to recommend everybody go to DRUDGE and read the article from the “Hill” anout McCain’s consideration of a party switch. It’s sure looking like we’re going to have a choice between a democrat and a Democrat.

What a hoot! West Virginia is thinking about offering gun safety classes in their schools. It seems their revenue is down for hunting license. It wouldn’t be a reason, like personal safety. It’s money. At least they admit it.

I heard on the radio the other day that outside of the legalized gambling industry Super Bowl bets (i.e., through work/bars/clubs) exceed 3 billion dollars! It’s the single largest betting day every year in America. March madness bets exceed that amount;however, that is a weeklong event as opposed to a single event.

Wow. I don’t even play the lottery.

#5 americanwoman, in your link this jumped off the page. “Daschle noted that McCain at that time was frustrated with the Bush administration as a result of his loss to George W. Bush in the 2000 Republican primary.” So, the annointed one didn’t get the nomination! Boo freking who. This is Bob Viagra, Dole, part two.

Morning all. It was 41 at 6am, cold but not crisp as yesterday. The cresecent Moon was adorned in a filmy gown of clouds, and Jupiter was barely visible at first. Shortly the clouds were left behind, and Venus and Jupiter shone brightly. The faintest glow on the horizon became a delight to the eye: pale blue above, pale pink at the horizon, and pale gold in between, cotton-candy clouds spun amongst them.

The Sun’s dark pink/golden disk is just peeking over the mist in neighboring pastures. Birds twitter in the trees, welcoming morning. No frost, no diamonds in the pastures. Clouds will paint interesting pictures today that the Sun will illuninate; his now brilliant gold face rises above the trees. He seems to say “I am here at The Artist’s bidding.” Thank you, Lord.

I must apologize for the simplistc (and while I believe it’s true) postings to stir the ire of the guest Ronulans last evening–leaving tex, hamous, and all the heavy-hauling gentlemen to clean up my mess. I admit, I’m intellectually inequal to either side of the arguement–I shall reserve my comments for my own contentment and self-satisfaction.
I contend that, even tho RP has some good ides, he still makes conservatism a goofy title when the rest of us are compared to the King Loon–therein is why say what I have said regarding subverting of an ideal (conservatism), in the similar manner taht teh terrorists cubvert Islam. I shan’t post it again.

Where is this work site that american woman keeps going?

  17. Adee on February 2nd, 2008 at 8:21 am

Kent, well you have witnessed one PaulBearer invasion (nay, assault). At least this time it wasn’t a dozen or so swarming with invectives that invited moderator intervention/blocking.

One thread a while ago passed 700 comments before they went off to pester somebody else. Several of us ladies speculated that young adults/college kids likely ran that Marathon assault on the premise they wanted to see what they could get away with and treated it like a video game. Shortly after we proposed that rationale, the horde abruptly left.

If you want to provide a link to a page on the web when you post a comment here, do this:

Open the page you want to link to.

Go to the very top of the page and highlight with your cursor all the text in the address bar.

Then click on edit in the top left just below the bar. The menu will drop down and you should click on “copy”.

Close the window or go back to the LST window .

Type your comment and then drop down two line spaces and right click your mouse. Click the “paste” choice on the menu you see and it should show the address of the page you want to link in the comment box.

It will not be bright blue until you actually “submit” your comment.

Indeed it is SuperBowl weekend, but since Green Bay isn’t in it, I’ll watch Puppy Bowl instead. Too tedious watching it just to catch the commercials with the Clydesdales.

    Human environmental effect: Negligible
    Therefor Global Warming Hype=Leftist Hysteria
Al Gore, aka: The Goracle=Idiot Blowhard

Another reason not to go with McCain–he’s bought into the hype

  40. NAT PIERCE on February 2nd, 2008 at 10:22 am

    CNN has announced plans
for a presidential debate in Ohio on the same day as one scheduled later this month by the Greater Houston Partnership and MSNBC.

Another effort to divide Texas strength and move it’s delagates to McShamnisty.

  41. KentBook on February 2nd, 2008 at 10:24 am

We’ll hold strong–Romney is only way to stop the liberal/MSM/left conspiracy to change the Republican party.

  42. NAT PIERCE on February 2nd, 2008 at 10:41 am

Denny Hastert and others have announced for Romney, there has been no notice from Cornyn or KHB, Governor Hare has announced for McShamnesty, Jim Baker and the Giuliani law firm in Houston will go for McShamnesty also. If there is no effort to counter this push I fear the worst.

  43. KentBook on February 2nd, 2008 at 10:45 am

Nat: KBH will go McCain to get VP slot; or Ricky will get VP, so KBH can go Gov.
Cornyn will go Romney, but after SuperDuperZuperTsunamiTuesday

  44. LizBV on February 2nd, 2008 at 11:01 am

If KBH gets any where NEAR a candidacy for ANYTHING (including dog catcher) I will support her opposition no matter their party. She is the ONLY electorate who has not only completely ignored my attempts to communicate with her, but she and her staff have insulted her constituents by grossly mishandling these attempts. They spit out form letters that don’t address the subject at hand or send other form letter correspondences on matters when none was requested. This indicates she is totally out of touch with those she represents and couldn’t care less.

  45. KentBook on February 2nd, 2008 at 11:18 am

I know–last year she went through some kind of transformation (during, or right after) the amnesty bill debacle–I just cancelled her weekly newletter with a strognly worded explanation why I was doing so; before hand she had seemed responsive, but yes most were form letters, but applicaable at least mostly. I believe her change came as a deal with McCain to be VP candidate, as well/or could be, a deal with McCain/Perry & McCain. I very disappointed with her and Perry (his being an Aggie, had carried him a ways with me, but all gone now) in their support for the leftist/moderates like McCain. I’m done with tehm.
We have to support Romney if we want to save our party–else we’ll be having to re-organize as the OCnservative Party after this election–I cannot continue to support someone because they are the nominee–I’ve ready to move, but we have to have a strong/large contengent if we want to be viable.

  46. NAT PIERCE on February 2nd, 2008 at 11:20 am

LizBV, odd bodkins, I agree with your opinions, however: I write to Corny and KBH equally, my letters are polite and have always been positive, the one’s the Corny were complimentary, supportive (Shamnesty), and encouraging.

I received no response from Corny, on the other hand KBH, after the Sham, mailed me a two-legal sized page letter explaining why she didn’t and what was necessary for her to vote yes on Shamnesty.

I really think Corny could have at least sent a form letter saying thanks.

Post your game score prediction and the total points scored by both teams will be the tie breaker and we’ll check back tomorrow to see who was the smartest or the luckiest! The winner will receive a lifetime subscription to LST and some snide remarks from some of the poarticipants. Here’s mine: Patriots 35 Giants 27 total points 62

  48. KentBook on February 2nd, 2008 at 11:28 am

Let me stress this–it’s too late to fight this election, all wecan do is work to get Romney–if we don’t and it’s McCain–I still think he’s better than the Dem alternative. That said–we (loose affiliation) hopefully win in Nov., but we start a separate faction as the Texas Conservative Party, which will hopefully gain strength nationwide, and we rebuild our party to conform to our wishes–I know there’d be a lot of supprt nationwide, but it will destroy the republican Party as we know it today. My main concern is that we split the party evenly and won’t have a majority against the Dems who won’t split up. I’d also not want to include the Ronulans as a whole–too radical–like the Kozacks and Huffies. If they want to moderate and join us, fine–otherwise the neoNazis and Troofers can have them.
This is what this current week of ploitics has brought me to–I’m ready to fight for a party I can believe in and if the US “Republican” population wants to moderate–then let them and we’ll leave them to do it the right way.

  55. KentBook on February 2nd, 2008 at 11:46 am

48: I’d like other input on this and how willing y’all would be to do this, especially if McCain gets shoved down our throat. I think from what I’ve read here those that would be willing to go as far as Skipping the Box or Voting for HRC/BO would be up to the arduous task of starting the New Party. If we could indeed draw us close the border/anti-amnesty folks; Christians and true (not radical) conservative–low taxes, low spending, anti-abortion (within state guidelines–TBD), state’s rights, Marriage–Man & Woman, Strict Constructionist Judges, etc.; we could actually deplete the moderate party’s population because they’ll have an alternative to the MSMs and Elites’ control.
I have to go for awhile, but will check back.

This should surprise AW, Sqauwk, Liz, and many more after our head-butting this week, but I’ve come to the conclusion tha if we want a party that we can believe in we are going to have to fight for it, unfortunately, it may be too late this election; and I am steadfast in my conviction that we have to beat HRC/BO at all cost this election–let it be the last “hold-your-nose-vote” you make–then we start a new party to compete against the old regimes and politicians. We already have folks like Tancredo, Hunter, Hannity, Ingraham, Poe, Santorum, etc. that will be ready to help get this going.

Ummmm…. If it takes an act of congress to get us INTO a war, can a president alone immediately withdraw all troops to get us OUT of one? And has BO or anyone stated they would immediately withdraw ALL troops? Or have they said they would initiate a plan for eventual withdrawal that would foresee the safe evacuation of our troops, contractors and those Iraqi’s who have assisted us and who’s life and families would be in peril if left behind? Hasn’t everyone said there will be forces there for years to come to maintain our presence in the region?

  69. sargevining on February 2nd, 2008 at 12:30 pm

And has BO or anyone stated they would immediately withdraw ALL troops?M/blockquote>

    Yes he has.

And you tried that in 2006 when you said that you were unaware of any Democrat Candidate for Congress who wanted to defund the troops and bring them home.

Obama has said that he will IMMEDIATELY withdraw troops from Iraq.

I beleive him on that one.

  70. LizBV on February 2nd, 2008 at 12:33 pm

Also, hasn’t every candidate declared our enemy is a very REAL and world wide threat, and the best course of action is to seek them out where they hide? How many places are they hiding now?

And Hillary has pledged pretty much the same thing, saying that her first act as President will be to instruct the Pentagon to begin the process as well.

But it is true that Obama has used the word “IMMEDIATE” and has given an exact timetable, complete with the numbers of troops to be withdrawn each month.

Pretty much exactly the information I would want if my goal was to take over Iraq.

We’re not going to get fooled this time.

Democrats in the last election made the same kinds of assurances, then immediately set about to defund troops engaged in combat, and declaring that we had lost this war.

    http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-iraqpol2feb02,0,1272905.story

Both Clinton and Obama have criticized McCain for his past comments that the United States likely would have to maintain a military presence in Iraq for many years. At Thursday’s debate, both offered assurances that they would start troop withdrawals within the first months of their presidencies.

McCain, a vocal supporter of President Bush’s so-called surge strategy in Iraq, has charged that the Democrats have been pushing a “false argument” in focusing so much attention on removing troops from Iraq.

Seems folks on both sides of the isle have done and said some pretty stupid things during this war. Meanwhile, our troops follow orders and fight on.

ah yes, a time honored tactic here on LST:

when someone shows that the Delmcrats have said or done something unpopular, redrect the argument by insuring that they share the balme with Republicans.

I’ll note here, that even though McCain is unpopular with a large number of Republicans, and unacceptable to most Conservatives, the success of his campaign thus far, particulary among independents and moderates, ahs been his support of both the Surge and Bush’s insistence on Victory in Iraq rather than pulling troops out before it’s been achieved.
and, as we can see, those who have long advocated both a troop pullout and the idea that we were losing and/or had already lost are pulling away from that.

It’s a telling indication of what to exect in the election.

Iraq WILL be an issue, but not in the way that Democrats expected it to be—–

That’s because the issue is going to be how THEY handled it, not how Bush did.

No one is immediately pulling ALL of our troops out of Iraq. It’s an impossibility.

It’s the same fear tactic that was used that said if the Dems got the congress and senate majority Bush would be impeached. Even Dems aren’t that irrational.

The world won’t come to an end if OB or even HRC is elected. They will eventually screw up and the pendulum will swing to the Repubs once again.

The question is, what will the Repub party look like then?

You’ll never get numbers one through five if you give up number six. The judiciary is the key to lasting and fundamental change. If you gained items 1-5 in COngress and the WH, you’ll lose them back in the courts without the right judicial philosophy prevailing.

And we don’t get those judges with Obama or Hillary.

    DJ,

Haven’t heard you comment on Wesley Snipes and his trial. What’s up?

Mr. Snipes’s two co-defendants — Eddie Ray Kahn, a promoter of tax denial, and Douglas Rosile, a former accountant — were convicted on the fraud and conspiracy charges.

It was the fourth major case in which the Justice Department failed to win convictions in cases against prominent tax deniers. The verdict drew whoops of joy outside the federal courthouse here from fellow tax deniers who immediately proclaimed it another victory that would draw more people to their cause.

The courts have declared the tax denier arguments are frivolous. Even Mr. Snipes’s defense lawyers, who called the denier claims “dead wrong” in their closing arguments to the jury, reiterated that statement after the verdict.

It’s the same fear tactic that was used that said if the Dems got the congress and senate majority Bush would be impeached. Even Dems aren’t that irrational.

Nobody said that the Deomcrats plan on pulling ALL troops out immediately. That’s pretty much the same Red Herring argument that is made about Border Security when Deomctrats say “Well, we can’t deport 12 million people.”

This is what we are talking about:

Both Clinton and Obama have criticized McCain for his past comments that the United States likely would have to maintain a military presence in Iraq for many years. At Thursday’s debate, both offered assurances that they would start troop withdrawals within the first months of their presidencies.

Which is an announcement of a troop pullout without regard to the level or success, or what the negative consequences will be. it is a decalration that we are leaving, and in Obama’s case, a definete time table complete with numbers of troops.

Basically, the Democras are saying thagt they are pulling troops out whether we are winning or not, and they don’t care what the consequences will be.

But NOBODY is accusing them of wanting to pull out ALL troops immediately—

We are acknowledging EXACTLY what they have said they will do:
    Begin removing troops IMMEDIATELY.

    Which is pretty dam specfic.

To quote from OB’s own web site:

If after 16 mos the region has stabilized…

He will keep some troops in Iraq to protect our embassy and diplomats; if al Qaeda attempts to build a base within Iraq, he will keep troops in Iraq or elsewhere in the region to carry out targeted strikes on al Qaeda.

Please do your research on all the candidates as I do before you claim to know their intent.

This world wide war won’t be won on a Republican = Good, Democrat = Bad basis. It’s going to take ALL of us.

The first thing I will do is initiate a phased redeployment. Military personnel indicate we can get one brigade to two brigades out per month. I would immediately begin that process. We would get combat troops out of Iraq. The only troops that would remain would be those that have to protect US bases and US civilians, as well as to engage in counterterrorism activities in Iraq.
Source: 2007 Democratic primary debate at Dartmouth College Sep 26, 2007

    snip

Tell people the truth: quickest is 1-2 brigades per month
RICHARDSON: With all due respect to Sen. Obama & Sen. Clinton, what I heard tonight is that even in their second terms, they will not get the troops out. Therefore, the war will not end.
OBAMA: It is important to tell the American people the truth. Military commanders indicate that they can safely get combat troops out at the pace of one to two brigades a month. That is the quickest pace that we can do it safely. I have said I will begin immediately and we will do it as rapidly as we can.

Source: 2007 Democratic primary debate at Dartmouth College Sep 6, 2007

    snip

Q: How do we pull out now, without opening Iraq up for Iran and Syria?
A: Look, I opposed this war from the start. Because I anticipated that we would be creating the kind of sectarian violence that we’ve seen and that it would distract us from the war on terror. At this point, I think we can be as careful getting out as we were careless getting in. But we have to send a clear message to the Iraqi government as well as to the surrounding neighbors that there is no military solution to the problems that we face in Iraq. So we have to begin a phased withdrawal; have our combat troops out by March 31st of next year; and initiate the kind of diplomatic surge that is necessary in these surrounding regions to make sure that everybody is carrying their weight. And that is what I will do on day one, as president of the United States, if we have not done it in the intervening months.

    Bringing Our Troops Home

Obama will immediately begin to remove our troops from Iraq. He will remove one to two combat brigades each month, and have all of our combat brigades out of Iraq within 16 months. Obama will make it clear that we will not build any permanent bases in Iraq. He will keep some troops in Iraq to protect our embassy and diplomats; if al Qaeda attempts to build a base within Iraq, he will keep troops in Iraq or elsewhere in the region to carry out targeted strikes on al Qaeda.

    Thanks Jolly;

    I knew two things:

    1. It wouldn’t be hard to do.

    2. There was someting in there somebody didn’t want us to see because it absolutely confirms what I said—

Which might indicate that speaking the truth is not “Republican good, Democrats bad”

It is, quite simply, the truth—and that’s what folks should be basing thier votes on.

If the truth makes a Democrat look bad, and I point out the truth here, it’s not because I want it to—it just means the truth makes a Democrat look bad.

The only way the “Sarge always says Republicans good, Democrats bad” is effective is if I provide information that is not factual—-

or, ahem, if I try to hide information that would weaken my arguments

Which is why I always provide a link to the sources I get while researching the candidates positions, abnd why the ccusation that I;m ignorant of them or don;t wish to find the answers myself is merely a debate tactic used to make the oppostion look bad without having to provide facts and logic into the debate.

Okay, folks, I see my idea didn’t light much of a fire–understandable–so, first let me say to liz and luv2 and DJ–fine don’t vote in election if it’s McCain–here’s what I say, we support Romeny until the convention, he doesn’t make it that’s terrible, if it’s CCain–y’all vote your conscience–no matter what–or who wins on Nov. 4th–we declare our indepence from the Republican Party on NOV. 5th. Now that gives us a year to get organized before we start a run at the Congress & Senate & Governors (like I said it won’t take much to get this going with the absolute vehemence folks have for McCain)–we can make the Conservative Party a reckonning force within 2 years. I will gladly work up a plan for this and submitt to the PTB here, for posting, so a specific thread can be activated.

I want to change what’s going on–you told me last week and all this week that there are things that you can’t do–tell me now, why we can’t do this. To quote Qell Miller, “The (Democrat) party left me; I didn’t leave them.” Well, folks our party is leaving us, abadoning us without a care–so, let’s start our own–it will be much more satisfactory (and easier, probably) than trying to reclaim the Republican Party.
Luv2–we’ll have the realistic (sorry DJ–no radical propositions–stick with RP & the losertarians if you need to) platform that we all feel is appropriate for the party. We’ll have a congress/convention down in Houston–since that’s where most of you are–this Fall after the Declaration of Indepence from the Republicans–IT’LL Make News, trust me.
November 5th will be our Independence Day!!
    here’s the song we’ll use: ;-{)

    1. My “opponent” will just poopoo the author

aw: You’re the one that got me thinking down this road, please don’t go negative on me right out of the box. Our party is already there we just have to give them the place to go–get them to quit associating the Repub;ican Party as the Conservative Party–we divorce ourselves. The money’s there for those that are supporting Romney, Huckabee, DHunter, etc. And yeah, it may take more than 2 years, but it wono’t ever be there if we don’t start in the background now–so, when Nov.4th comes around we can say, that’s not our p[arty, we’re forming our own. Everyone has postured that there is a need for more parties–maybe if we separate from ours–the left will separate from the Dems–then there’d be four and we stand a chance–cbecause, there are more Christians in this country than anything else and they’ll have a choice without the D or after names they’ll have C to work from. Now, I doubt that a majority of Christian Dems will come over, but the Conservative Moderates might–either way it’ll hurt both Parties. It’s much better than acting as an independent.

Come on, think about it–we have 9 mos to talk about this behind the scenes and gather support–I’ll garauntee we can pull some pretty hefty folks, maybe even Rush.

Begin withdrawal May 1 2007; finish by March 31 2008
Since January, I have put forward a very specific plan that is designed to create the last best hope to pressure the Sunni and the Shia to reach political accommodation. That’s to let the Iraqi government know that America is not going to be there indefinitely. So, what my plan says is that on May 1st of this year, we need to begin a phased withdrawal from Iraq, with the goal of removing all combat troops by March 31st of next year. And we’ve got 54 sponsors so far on the bill. We’re gonna keep on pushing that agenda.
The withdrawal has to begin soon. It’s time to end this war. It’s time to refocus our efforts on the wider struggle against terror, and it’s time for us to work much more aggressively diplomatically both inside Iraq and regionally if we’re gonna see the kind of stability in Iraq that all of us hope for.

    It’s easy:

The Democrats are for an immediate withdrawal.

Obama goes further and informs our enemy that it will be at the rate of one brigade per onth for 16 months.

The remaining Republicans say that we will withdraw troops from Iraq when, and only when, cionditions make it safe to in order to prevent a gneocide or Iraq once again becoming a state that sponsors terrorism.

I’m of the opinion that not only are the Republians correct on this issue, their position represents the most rational one, and one that doesn’t need people to go out amongst the unwashed masses and misrepresent it as being something other tha what they say it is.

I’m also of the opinion that it is John McCain’s position on this issue that has gotten a large number of Conservatives, as well as independents and moderates, to llok past his other positions—and that’s because he has been unwavering in his beleif in it, even when everybody said that his holding to it would spell his dooom—and that of the Republican Party.

If I’m right, that’s bad news for Democrats—particularly the two Presidential candidates—and it;s the reason folks are all out now saying that what the Deomcrats say they will do is not what they are saying they will do.

Absolutely NOT—and you know that. Adnm nobody is saying we ashould sustain our troops at surge level indefinately. I’d figure somebody who has done the research you’ve done would know that.
