Heh, beat me to it. Man, what in the heck is going on in this world?

  2. BigJolly on February 8th, 2008 at 9:47 am

“I just find it ironic that they can dictate the dress style of children to make sure they don’t wear inappropriate clothing, but they have no controls in place for someone wearing transgender clothing,” said Dave M.

Curry says parents like Dave M. should not bring the issue up to their students until they ask. However, he says parents should be ready to answer tough questions from the student’s fellow third graders.

Daddy, why is little Johnny wearing a training bra?

Um, um, go ask your mother.

Nutcases and the system is encouraging it ?

lets say 1500 students are re-moved from this public school and home or private schooled instead - no students and they get no tax dollars to educate said 1500 students. As a parent I would start a very loud - very vocal movement to remove our “normal, and decent” student from this school

BJ: I’m with you! This world is getting wackier every day! Exercising or having a little common sense is becoming more and more a rarity in society. The PC crowd is running amuck.

  6. T-Hawkk on February 8th, 2008 at 10:09 am

I miss the old days when kids who were different were pushed down stairs and beaten up during recess. Yeah, those were the days… And that was just for having a goofy haircut or pants that were too short above the shoes.

In my grade school, in 1972, a boy who wanted to wear a dress would have had the ever living crap kicked out of him.

I’m not saying that’s good, but, it sure was a reality back then.

Maybe this will encourage more boys to come out as transgender and start wearing dresses to school? I wonder.

  7. navymom on February 8th, 2008 at 10:09 am

And still you see students kicked out of class for refusing to cut their hair!! GO FREAKIN’ FIGURE!

  8. raiderdav on February 8th, 2008 at 10:17 am

That poor kid - his parents are making this choice for him with life-long consequences. This is so screwed up.

  9. Lawrence C. on February 8th, 2008 at 10:18 am

Just another example in a long list that reinforces my contention that the private school tuition I have paid for the last dozen years is simply another government tax - a public education “failure tax” that I must pay to avoid this kind of crap.

I don’t know what’s worse about that link malcolm - the relationship or this fact:

Has anyone considered that his is (a) one of those wacky phases that kids go through, or (b) that his parents are flaming liberals and he got this idea of pushing the envelope from them, or (c) that his parents actually put this thought into his head and encouraged him to make waves?

Don’t feed the beast. It bites your hand.

  16. Matt Bramanti on February 8th, 2008 at 11:58 am

I suspect it started out as (a), and is now firmly in the (c) stage.

  17. navymom on February 8th, 2008 at 12:02 pm

Well, has anyone noticed the trend of grown men wearing SKIRTS? Well, they are disguised as KILTS, but I still say they are skirts.

It is odd to be at an outdoor festival and seeing men traipsing around in these things!

I even went to a birthday party last year and the honoree (A MALE) was wearing a kilt-like skirt. And he is a TEACHER!!! Is that strange or what?

  18. Robert 1 on February 8th, 2008 at 12:04 pm

How are they going to protect this kid on the playground?? And will the little girls play with him and “his” dolls??

Well, it’s nice to see that the “PC” police are out doing their jobs screwing up our supposed normal lives.

  19. tedtam on February 8th, 2008 at 12:21 pm

So far, I’ve managed to avoid the trademarking of phrases that runs so rampant on LST. But I think I will indulge in TMing the “Don’t feed the beast. It bites your hand.” I think it will just fit so many circumstances, especially in light of the looming elections.

  20. Mikey51 on February 8th, 2008 at 12:32 pm

    Come on, Y’all.

So the kid has a “thing” for tafetta. And he/she wants to be called Pat instead of Pat.

    So what?

T’was a handsoome fellew, that had spent quite some time in the tavern drinkin’ ale; eventually his bledder asked fer relief and he staggered oootside and arooond the carner to the knewn spot; he did as he needed, but en th’ way back en, he was a mite dizze, so he set doown ender th’ tree by th’lane and fell asleep.

    Just more PC nuttiness.

  29. jimb on February 8th, 2008 at 2:59 pm

I don’t know the whole story, I admit, but it seems like this poor kid will actually grow up thinking he’s truly a woman trapped in a man’s body because of that which his parents stuck into his head.

Without exception, everyone I’ve known well that is gay or “transgendered” either admits that they chose this lifestyle openly (meaning that they weren’t “born that way” or they had some strange/traumatic/bad experience that invariably comes up when discussing their sexual preference.

  30. LizBV on February 8th, 2008 at 3:14 pm

Don’t know the stats now, but 10 years ago 1 in 3 of all incarcerated adults (and those were only the ones willing to admit it) were sexually abused as children.

  31. american woman on February 8th, 2008 at 3:46 pm

I bet this 9 year old has never been disciplined. He has never had guidance, and has parents who don’t believe in spanking. Not that I think you can spank odd behavior out of a child, but kids crave rules, guidance and parents who draw the line. This is so wild. American tax dollars at work.

  32. jimb on February 8th, 2008 at 3:57 pm

#30 - think that’s a real statistic? I would imagine that plenty of convicts that want to make excuses for themselves…

We got rights too and we are NOT PC

  34. BigJolly on February 8th, 2008 at 4:01 pm

That’s a great point. Travis Mullis, the guy that stomped in the head of his son last week, apparently was sexually abused as an orphan.

Exactly what I thought when I saw this. Who’s in charge in that household?? I have a belt and it’s secondary purpose is keeping my pants up.

My boy plays with the little girls down the street. They play Polly Pockets and he brings his GI Joes.

    It usually goes like this:
Polly and her friends are captured by COBRA. Joe and the gang come in and slaughter them and save Polly and Strawberry Shortcake with grenade launchers.

Well, I know TransYouth Family Advocates (TYFA) is involved. TYFA doesn’t encourage children to be transgender at all, nor do they encourage the parents to transition a child from male to female or female to male — TYFA encourages parents to get therapists involved, and make informed decisions about their children.

If TYFA is involved, the parents are invoved. Usually parents fight against their children being transgender — no parent dreams of having a transgender child.

Not trying to offend, but I’m guessing your opinion is a gut level opinion more than an informed opinion. I would highly recommend you contact TYFA if you sincerely believe that the parents of this transgender child made this decision in a vacuum.

As for scripture, Matthew 19:12 and Isaiah 56:4-8 address the issue of eunuchs — the gender variant people of the Bible. There’s are Bible commentaries on trasgender people too — such as here and here.

  39. BigJolly on February 8th, 2008 at 6:08 pm

TYFA doesn’t encourage children to be transgender at all, nor do they encourage the parents to transition a child from male to female or female to male — TYFA encourages parents to get therapists involved, and make informed decisions about their children.

And therein lies the problem. Trannys encouraging therapy. Give me a break. This is a third grader.

Eunuchs being compared to trannys. Autumn, you need to review not only those passages, which do not support your position, but why people were eunuchs in the first place. Good grief. Where in the heck did common sense go?

  40. jimb on February 8th, 2008 at 6:13 pm

#38 - I suspect that you misunderstand Scripture if you believe that a) eunuchs in the Bible are gay/”transgendered” men and b) if either of those scriptural references refer to such.

    Context and history are important.

What is happening to our world? We never had these problems surface when growing up (now 62 years old) or at least they were never discussed or flaunted. This is insane. Stop the world - I want to get off and go back to normalcy the way God intended for all his children.

  44. american woman on February 8th, 2008 at 7:18 pm

BigJ great response! I thought a eunich was a castrated man……. have I been wrong all these years? Vlou….. We live in bizarre times, with culture pounding our kids daily. Life was better with no tv.

  45. LizBV on February 8th, 2008 at 7:28 pm

Not saying being sexually abused is an excuse any more than being on drugs is an excuse for criminal behavior. Just stating a fact. Don’t like it? Then don’t do drugs, be a role model for your kids that does drugs and don’t sexually abuse your kids…

Thanks for raining on my parade and the next girls night out plan.

The most funny Candid Camera episode (the newer version) was when a guy in a kilt had to go up on a ladder and asked women to hold the ladder for him. Apparently he wasn’t wearing anything. Most people looked away, but these 2 black women kept peaking.

The other one was where they labeled the bathroom’s Virgins or All others./dang I miss that show

  47. american woman on February 8th, 2008 at 7:38 pm

Liz, I know you have studied this topic. Is child abuse more prolific now than in the 50’s and if so why?

45 - I was more curious if maybe there were some convicts who may essentially lie about sexual abuse in their past just to garner enough sympathy to not be held responsible for their crimes. I believe that most would not, but I’m also sure that a few would…

  50. fuzio on February 14th, 2008 at 10:01 am

Honestly, I’m quite disturbed by some of the responses on here, though I can’t say I’m surprised.

What a lot of people don’t realize is that being transgendered isn’t cross-dressing or simply ‘wanting’ to be the opposite sex. I personally know many people who were born as hermaphrodites and those who were born with 1 sexual organ but obviously look, talk, walk, sound like the opposite sex.

I understand a lot of people don’t truly “understand” what transgendered is. I’m a gay male and even it confuses me at times.

    I don’t believe they should create a unisex bathroom. They can do one of two things;
    1) Have a PTA Meeting and discuss the issue with all the parents who have children in the school system. Let them air their concerns and let the parents (and other individuals truly educated on the issue of transgenders) answer questions.
See how parents feel about the child using the girls bathroom.
    2) Make the child continue to use the boys bathroom, as he is still a boy.

I understand people don’t get it, think the boy is just a cross-dresser, or even more idiotically, think he’s gay.

Fact is, transgendered people have larger numbers than some realize. I’m sure none of you can imagine the struggle, mentally, one has in having their body and mind tell them they are the opposite sex, but when they look in the mirror, they see different.

I really need to point out that the topic of homosexuality really doesn’t even need to be touched because homosexuality has zilch to do with transgenders or “cross-dressing”. And there is a difference between transexuals and transgendered.

    Those who claim the “gay” people they know openly admit to choosing their sexual preference;
Then they aren’t gay at all. Homosexuality is the sexual attraction to someone of the same gender. Which is not something ‘anyone’ can control.
I for one, fought for years to try and change the feelings I had as a child.
I hated having feelings for other males. I begged and prayed to God to help me change what I was feeling. I even had sex with girls and refused to even look at another boy in any manner.
I almost drove myself to suicide because I felt I was such a disgrace to God. So I can tell you 100%, I did not choose to be gay. If I could, I certainly would never have done so.

    And for those of you who believe people can ‘change’. Making yourself have sex with / marry someone of the opposite sex does not make you heterosexual. The attraction is all that matters. If you’re still attracted to or think about the same gender, you’re still gay. (;

So, I really think a lot of people on this thread need to educate themselves about issues before spouting off at the mouth. I’m not saying people have to ‘accept’ any of this, there is a difference between acceptance and understanding.
I’m perfectly fine with those who disagree with homosexuality, transgendered, etc. As long as you have an educated reason and not just a ‘quote’ from the Bible.

    Wow.
Lots of bashing on here right now.
You do all know that there is tons of research on this.
They are not just acting on a whim.
They have full consultation of the medical profession, the kid’s doctor, therapist, etc.
They are not just being irresponsible.
This is the advice that lots of people with PHD’s and experts in the field have given them as the best possible course of action to so the least amount of harm.

They have studied all possible outcomes and they have plenty of examples of the options people have suggested in here and have found that those do not work as well.
Or in some cases are downright dangerous.
This may seem a little weird, but it’s the best course for these people.
Otherwise they get all kinds of problems that are much worse.
I don’t claim to understand all of it but I do trust that someone who studies this for their livelyhood and has done it for years, probably knows what they are talking about.
And they’ve got a lot of experts on their phone dial.
