Okay, I wanna know, seeing as how the election is tomorrow:
Should an incumbent be voted out of office because he voted for the idiotic tax on businesses?
Corbin Van Arsdale, incumbent voted FOR it. His opponent, Allen Fletcher says that was a bad vote.
What do you say?

Out with CVA!
Out with any incumbent. Especially CVA
Maybe not the tax, but the vote for the TTC!!!
Out with the incumbent!!! Buh-bye.
How can ANYONE in good conscience vote for a margin tax on business? Even businesses that don’t make a profit will be taxed! I heard Edd Hendee say his business will be taxed in the neighborhood of $50-70,000 this year–a tax he has never had to pay before!
Why did Republicans say it was and illegal income tax when Ann Richards proposed it, only to “spread it more evenly” when they were in power?
We should throw out everyone who voted for it!
Get a rope…
I would LOVE to see the incumbent in my district voted out, but that is not going to happen. I voted for the next sacrificial lamb to be slaughtered by Queen Sheila in November.
Any Republican voting for a tax increase should be summarily booted out of office ASAP…
Nanana Nanana Hey, Hey, Goodbye
Kinda looks unanimus BJ
RINOism is worse then a STD.
No to all incumbents.
Corben Van Arsehole must go. If he wanted to keep his job then he should have honored his real master(s) the people of Dist 130 and not be a political lackey of the establishment.
Real genius displayed by all those in the TX gov’t who approved/voted for the business tax, especially with the enormous surplus in the treasury. Show them all the door and push ‘em through it with a pitchfork.
Yes, Corbin needs to go, he’s a sneaky snake that has stabbed his constituents and Texans in the back. I’m not in his district, so I won’t have the pleasure of voting against his sorry ass but if I did I would let him know afterward.
Jerk.
If I was in District 130, CVA would be out for sure.
Let’s clean house - all incumbents need to go.
YER OUTTA THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Correct me if I’m wrong. Did not CVA on the air with Dan and Edd take several positions that most KSEV listeners and LST readers support, then turn right around and stab them in the back by voting the opposite?
If I’m wrong, I’ll be glad to eat humble pie.
I also heard Edd say that his new tax was $70,000, he of course can afford it, and he’ll not even miss it. BUT and that’s a BIG BUTT, IT’S NOT RIGHT!!!! What about that small business that sells a lot with a SMALL margin, PROFIT for the folks in Reo Linda, it could out them out of business! At the very least they my fire someone to make up the difference. That is why I voted for the Village Idiot “Kinky” How could anyone be worse than the Breck Girl? I still have the letter that the Gub’ner sent me after I returned the third letter he sent me asking for donations, each time, I wrote in big letters, with a Sharpie, how I felt, on them. It cost 85 cents to mail and was real thick and was filled with so much BS I could smell before I opened it. If I have time I’ll post some of it. If I post all of it HAL will Ban me for life. CC,…. YES GET-A-ROPE!!
Here’s a good explanation of the surplus and business tax issue.

Sorry - wrong link! Although that’s interesting too.
This is the correct question and answer.

I do have to say - I’ve enjoyed a certain amount of political discourse on this site, but seeing the name calling and sheer hatred (you want him hanged???) toward Corbin Van Arsdale, I can see that real political discourse is not the aim, at least not at this point. I do encourage you to watch the link, if you are a person truly interested in having correct information.
NTM,
If it’s discourse you want, then you need to find a reason to support higher taxes, because that is exactly what you guy voted for. You can hemhaw around it all you want, but that is the bottom line.
And the excuses for doing it are just ridiculous. We said it at the time and your guy chose to vote with his benefactor instead of the taxpayers of Texas.
I hope he is defeated, even though I know it is a very long shot. He seems like a good enough guy but if voters are able to defeat him, it really will send a message to the Austin crowd that change is a comin’.

I’m almost to the point of deciding that incumbents should be voted out of office simply for being incumbents. The Republicans have been rolled by allowing the Democrat politicians to just move into the party when the South drifted away from the Dem party, but nothing changed as far as their governing principles (assuming they ever had any). We conservatives were so enamored with taking power from the Dems that we never noticed that the Dems just took the Republican party and claimed it as their own. Off with their heads - all of them.
I’m not for higher taxes, but if the Texas Supreme Court gives you a deadline or threatens to shut down the schools, and every other measure is voted down…what do you do? Fix it the best you can in the time allowed and work on it in subsequent sessions to dial back (which they have). What would Allen have done differently is the question?
I guess I just see a lot of “quit taking so much money from me” but not a lot of people giving solutions for funding.
Rastus - I’m interested to hear if you would plan on voting against Dan Patrick, then? He’s an incumbent. He certainly didn’t get anything done while in office (I think most people who trust in God didn’t really need the sign there…they probably trusted in God anyway).
The way these people believe everything Dan and Edd say I am expecting them any day to tell us that they can feed legions of folks in District 130 with a few loafs of bread and a couple of fish. If you are expecting these people to do research forget..they will not..they think Dan Patrick walks on water. None of these people have a clue about the margins tax. But just in case there are a few people on here that are interested here goes: The business tax has been around since the 80’s. 85% of the Republican legislators (and a majority of Harris County Republican legislators) voted to close the business tax loopholes that large corporations such as Dell Computers were using to drive up our property taxes (HB3). Every extra dollar from the new changes is required to be used to buy down our property taxes by the same amount. 85% of the democrats voted AGAINST these changes, because they knew if they could kill it, it would create tremendous pressure to increase spending or raise taxes. Check it out here: http://tlo2.tlc.state.tx.us/hjrnl/793/pdf/79ceday06final.pdf#page=86. The business tax changes are revenue neutral. It has problems and needs to be cut more for small businesses. But repealing it ocmpletely will explode our property taxes.
Everybody’s always talking about “revenue neutral” measures. I don’t care if it is revenue neutral. Business taxes aren’t paid by businesses, they’re paid by ME, in the form of higher prices.
If the state of Texas wants to impress me, they’ve got to learn to do with less money. They waste plenty. SPEND LESS, AND LOWER TAXES. What the Republicans did with the business tax was a shell game. Besides, property taxes continue to rise.
jimb: Business taxes are paid on the gross not net..b/c if it were paid on net then it would be a state tax…Besides if I am not mistaken the courts told Texas you either figure out a way to fund schools or we will close the schools..the legislators had to find a quick fix in order to keep the schools open..They realize that it still needs to be tweeked..but it was the only way they could keep the schools open..besides, if Edd Hendee is being taxed the way he says he is going to be taxed then he has been using the loopholes to not pay.
Gee, as long as I’ve been posted on LST, I don’t remember seeing denimndiamonds posting. But She seems to not mind people paying more taxes. Gross or net, he paid $70,000 more in taxes. That’s the salary for two employees.
LOL, look at this property tax argument coming out. Everybody and their brother who has been paying attention knows that property tax buydown was only good for 2 years at best, and then they are going to rocket right back up. Denim, if you don’t know that skyrocketing property taxes are the result of out of control appraisals and spending gone wild politicians nationwide at the local and state levels, then you are either out of touch or you are benefitting from those tax increases.
So tell us Denim. Where to you work, or what politician are you married to?
C’mon Big45
At least give the blue jeans (denimndiamonds) queen a chance
The problem in district 130 is that people don’t really want to have their taxes lowered, as demonstrated in their approval of the $806 million dollar school bond. Dan didn’t help any by coming out and telling the media “…this looks like a good bond to me” (doesn’t matter what he ranted about on the radio) When I met with the superintendent, he was quick to mention that Senator Patrick thought it was a good bond.
I don’t think most Texans want to have the government spend less, as shown by all the bonds that they approved last November. Do you think we might be sending mixed messages to Austin?
Corbin is no better, and no worse, than many of the Republican politicians in office, including the LST revered Dan Patrick. I would guess most people here have not spoken personally to Corbin or anyone on his staff before forming their opinions. They are very accessible and always are willing to talk with you. Much more than Dan and his staff, if you don’t count calling into the radio station.
Given the choices (all bad) Corbin did what 90% of the other Republicans did to give us property tax relief. He voted consistently with the other representatives that serve within Dan’s district, yet he is the one taking the wrath of Dan and LST. Hmmm.
denimndiamonds, I just want to know one thing. For whom is the margins tax revenue neutral??? I own a small business and, yes, have been paying the franchise tax. However, this new abomination of a tax is going to hit me multiples of what I paid before. And, o yeah, my taxes on my home have shot through the roof the last few years. Good grief, I’m being taxed to death from every direction. Revenue neutral?? That’s a load of bs.
I would just say about CVA, if you like his votes, re-elect him - if you don’t, throw him out and send a message to the “good hair” gang.
II am often puzzled by all the discussion about taxes.
Government 101
Taxes are needed to cover spending by a government entity.
There is no way you can cut taxes without reducing spending.
Yow can call it property tax, business tax, sales tax, or just taxes, the result is the same. No reduction in spending no reduction in taxes.
When politicians say no new taxes it has no meaning unless they say no new spending in the same sentence.
Voters often vote their pocket books, Corbin will stay or go depending on how thick or thin the pocket books in 130 are.
Why is it that other Republicans like Riddle (82 ethics complaints and voted for the Trans Texas Corridor, Tommy Williams, near the same) always get a walk. Why aren’t these dogs voted out, or is this just herd mentality and one Da following the next over the cliff?
