I was very disapointed to see that Senator ( former Senator ? ) Mike Richards was ( is ? )supporting SSG in that race .

  2. Peter on March 5th, 2008 at 10:56 am

Pelican? I thought that was the anti-smoking duck.

  3. David Benzion on March 5th, 2008 at 11:05 am

OK, Peter opens it back up for debate… Mr. Bramanti and I were arguing behind the scenes about whether this was a duck or a pelican.

Anyone know the origins of this pic?

Also, where does Shelley Sekula-Gibbs shop for her clothes?

Mrs. Benzion’s birthday is coming up…

  4. Dave D on March 5th, 2008 at 11:14 am

David, she lives down here in the Clear Lake area and Sea Brook has pelicans on every corner, so that might be the connection. I don’t recognize the water tower in the background though.

#1 I.P.A. Bill, I’ve not figgered that’un out either. I always thought he was A. Conservative, B. Honest, C. Smart, so how could he support her? Makes NO sense at all.

I.P.A. Bill– watch out for the Mike Richards fella… he’s been known to associate with some pretty shady characters ;)

The SSG campaign mailed out a hit piece on Olson saying he has been in DC for 20 years. WRONG!! Olson graduated Law School and went into the Navy for 9 years - Naval Aviator - and in the last years of his service he was at the Pentagon. When out of the Navy - he worked for Phil Gramm representing Texas. Apparently the SSG crew never knew that being in the Navy meant you had to leave home! If the SSG gang isn’t ignorant - they are intentionally inacurate. Bottom line - Pete Olson served his nation as a Naval Aviator and then worked for super Conservative Phil Gramm. I’d be proud of that record.

If anyone missed it I voted for him, I was afraid that Talton would win, Talton is a good guy but I like Pete Olsen better.

  9. David Benzion on March 5th, 2008 at 11:22 am

Fwiw, I addressed my understanding of Mike’s endorsement of SSG’s here.

  10. Shannon on March 5th, 2008 at 11:25 am

    What pelican?

    That’s not Matt with her?

  11. Dave D on March 5th, 2008 at 11:27 am

#9 David, you said, Mike said, “SSG is a fine person, takes positions he shares, and is a good “team player” who has earned the opportunity to be supported by the rest of the “team”.” Translation; she is part of the Good Ole Boy Club and it’s her time to win, the grass roots/public opinion be Damned!

  12. RickG on March 5th, 2008 at 11:32 am

    11.

Besides, what will she do for staff - hire a whole new one every few days?

  13. Rastus on March 5th, 2008 at 11:40 am

I voted for SSG the last time around - learned how to spell all those names and everything. Wow, was I ever embarrassed by her behavior up there in the rarified atmosphere of DC. She needs to stay down here and keep her opinions to herself or go start some shxx with Carol Alvacado of something.

  14. I.P.A.Bill on March 5th, 2008 at 11:44 am

    Rastus,
Sounds like she ” Stole your joy ” ?

  15. raiderdav on March 5th, 2008 at 11:50 am

Something about that pic makes me think it is in Galveston for some reason.

And FWIW, I’m not a fan of any politician ever having it be ‘their turn’ after being a good stooge for the party.

Good one. Maybe they can arm wrestle or play hangman.

  17. GriffithLea on March 5th, 2008 at 12:14 pm

That’s a pretty good picture of SSG. She doesn’t look that good on her own website.

    P.S. Go, Pete!

  18. RickG on March 5th, 2008 at 1:37 pm

    shouldn’t that be “2,000 words”? :-)

  19. dowjones4k on March 5th, 2008 at 2:19 pm

ah i’d vote for the duck!

  20. american woman on March 5th, 2008 at 2:34 pm

I sure hope Pete Olson wins. When you think of Olson’s service to our country, then working for Senator Graham, it seems like he would sweep her. How much money is Shelley raising from the ” rino, idiot, sell us out republicans” lol Maybe we could get Saturday Night Live to do a skit about her when she had her staff all walk out on her…

    AW

ROFL, as long as SNL finds the Dodo bird from the photo to be in the skit.

  22. Adee on March 5th, 2008 at 7:13 pm

Let’s hope Shelley agrees to debate Pete–at least on KSEV. If she doesn’t, that will “say” a lot. Dist. 22 deserves representation with similar intensity for its citizens that Tom displayed.

BTW, note every time the media refer to Tom, he’s “involved” in scandal or “accused” of improper political fundraising/spending. The media never say there is still no trial date set (after how many years?) and there has been no conviction.
Nevermind the charges already set aside by the courts.

  23. Simple Simon on March 5th, 2008 at 7:27 pm

    Adee,

Tom is not my congressman, but if he were I would vote for a yellow dog in his stead. Delay is one of those drunken sailor shovel-the-pork Republican congressmen that the party is a lot better off not having.

Tom was against abortion and for family values, but a lot of big government and big government spending did not offend his eyes.

The media and the Democrats did Texas a favor.

I hope Mr Olsen, if elected, can do a better job, but I am getting the feeling the SW Houston Republicans really like poor performers and Shelly many-names might just get elected.

    Simple

  24. american woman on March 5th, 2008 at 7:37 pm

Shelly many names……… I like it… it has a ring to it. Good job Simple.

  25. Adee on March 5th, 2008 at 9:25 pm

Simple, Tom managed to listen to his constituents on the Toy Train funding and in his position as Majority Leader gave spine to the GOP members of the House. Without him, you surely noticed what a directionless, spineless bunch they qbecame

  26. Adee on March 5th, 2008 at 9:34 pm

Continue..they quickly became. And they who professed to stand by him, when they stupidly decided that removal was required if one of their member were indicted rather than convicted of something–which the Dems do not do, supposedly only conviction does it for them, they didn’t do it. They were going to be more pure than the Dems and lead by example. Ha. All they were was more stupid than the Dems, and that was an engraved invitation for Ronny Earle as henchman to dream up something.

You may have regarded his departure a favor, however many of us in Dist. 22 think otherwise.

  27. Simple Simon on March 6th, 2008 at 7:36 am

    Adee,

I am not sure if I would accuse a fair about of the folks who voted for Delay as being capable of rational thought.

Yes, he opposed the Toy Train, but that did not stop him from shoveling one hell of a lot of other pork.

Ronnie Earle’s charges were contrived and shaky at best, but Delay put himself in harm’s way by skating very close to the edge in terms of ethics and the rules, which he publicly was very proud to say.

I am disappointed to see the Feds taking so long to charge him. The Federal case against him is not as shakey, but the Feds tend to move a lot slower. Take the example of the case against “freezer cash” William Jefferson. The Bush Justice Department has been especially slow in bringing his case to trial. (let alone indictment). I would imagine that Delay (being a Bush buddy) would get the extra slow treatment.

    Simple
