While I agree that the prosecution of the Border Agent is ridiculous, so is your blaming the Presdient forit, and blaming John McCain makes about as much sense as a tolet paper row boat.
Please explain how the president caused this prosecution–
After that, tell us how it’s John McCain’s fault, too.
As for Hillsy, She’s played second fiddle for so long, I really doubt she’d take the job and lose the power she has as a Senator. This is probably the main reason she’s gone after Obama so hard. That, and Obama has given here the ammunition for it.

It’s those kinds of promises that scare me—-what it would take for Hill and Bill to sit at the kid’s table while Obama slices the turkey with the gownups.
Hillary had one good week. It’s a long ways from over. Rather than shake the Magic 8 Ball and spout predictions, I think I’ll wait it out and watch it unfold.
Here’s some other things that wer proven this week:
~Neither one of the Democrats is “magical.”
~Neither of them is “inevitable.”
~Both of them are “beatable.”
~A lot of people have been counting their chickens even before the eggs have been laid.
~Democrats are nastier campaigners than Republicans are.
I just plain don’t want to hear anymore from pundits warning about how “nasty” Republicans are going be after watching this Democrat race, and I don’t want to see them condemning Republicans in the General Election Campaign for doing and saying the same kinds of things we see Democrats on both sides of this nasty little cat fight doing. Anyone with half a brain can see where the nastiness and lack of willingness to “get along with each other” of the last couple of Decades has been coming from after watching this circus.
And Hillary has had more than one good week. she’s dam near tied for delegates and has won more bigger states, and Obama hasn’t won any big states that could make a difference in the General Election.
Your best bet is to write coherent/spell checked/brief letters and faxes (not emails) to those you believe will hear you and CHILL until it is time to vote.
The chances of influencing anyone else’s opinion at this point is pert near zilch.
You KNOW the Democrats are dedicated to making every vote count so that the little man has his say.
They do that by making their primary process a byzantine maze that only experts can negotiate, denying the voters of entire states a role in the process, and insuring that Super Delegates can make sure the voters don’t make any mistakes by electing just anybody as thier nominee.

So in other words Liz you’re making the same old tired argument in a little bit different way. It goes like this:
“I can’t debate you on the facts, so I;m going to point out something negative.”
“Don’t pay attention to the truth of what he says, pay attention to how he says it.”
It’s tired, trite, and doesn’t really convince anybody.
L2H is an LEO. But the fact that he missed that it was the State of Arizona prosecuting the BP Agents and not the Federal Gummint leads me to believe that he’s not a Detective.
The first two “Myths” about “Direct Action” they disuss are these:
1. Direct action is terrorism.
Terrorism is calculated to intimidate and thus paralyze people. Direct action, on the other hand, is intended to inspire and thus motivate people by demonstrating the power individuals have to accomplish goals themselves. While terrorism is the domain of a specialized class that seeks to acquire power for itself alone, direct action demonstrates possibilities that others can make use of, empowering people to take control of their own lives. At most, a given direct action may obstruct the activities of a corporation or institution that activists perceive to be committing an injustice, but this is simply a form of civil disobedience, not terrorism.
2. Direct action is violent.
To say that it is violent to destroy the machinery of a slaughterhouse or to break windows belonging to a party that promotes war is to
prioritize property over human and animal life. This objection subtly validates violence against living creatures by focusing all attention on
property rights and away from more fundamental issues.
The most recent example of “Direct Action” we have seen is the tossing of a bomb at a Recruiting Center and using the justification that it was done at 3 AM so that nobody would get hurt, so it was OK to do.
I find it ironic, and perhaps a bit illuminating, therfore, that there is a highly organized faction of the Democrat Party out there that is basically telling the Democrat Party (and the rest of us):
“We’re going to get our way politically by rioting and throwing bombs to make sure you pull us out of a war that we’re fighting against people who get there way politically by rioting and throwing bombs.”
Was the spelling good enough for people to give me some credibilty in that post Liz?
Ah yes, then there’s this from the those fine folks that recommend “Direct Action” in order to make sure the Democrat Party elects the right nominee:
People in the U.S. are preoccupied with voting to an unhealthy degree. This is not to say that everyone votes, or thinks voting is effective or worthwhile; on the contrary, a smaller and smaller proportion of the eligible population votes every election year, and that’s not just because more and more people are in prison. But when you broach the question of politics, of having a say in the way things are, voting is just about the only strategy anyone can think of—voting, and influencing others’ votes.
Could it be this is why so many people feel so disempowered?
Is anonymously checking a box once a year, or every four years, enough to feel included in the political process, let alone play a role in it? But
what is there besides voting?
I am all for some Direct Action by monkey-wrenching the U.S. Government, but as I reflect it has become apparent that the good ole USGOV does a far better job of monkey-wrenching itself than I could ever do.
The Democratic and Republican parties have some large membership rolls and by association a lot of other “wanna-be’s”. I think it is reasonable not to hold them responsible for all the latter day Travis Bickles that may show up from time to time.
I don’t believe the Republican Party endorses for a nano-second chicken-hawk behaivor of that loon in Florida or the public bathroom antics of one of its senators. Indeed, they did their best to distance themselves. Then again there are those colorful Log Cabin Republicans.
Do you have any evidence that the Democratic Party has publicly endorsed that amateurish attempt to bomb a recruiting station in New York?

Sarge: ie: muslims in France
Or anywhere else in the world after cartoons are published.
Or in Isreal to protest the “occupation”
Or in Iraq to protest the “occupation”
Or keying a recruiter’s car, or vnadalizing the windows, or keeping people from entering a recruiter’s office.
Or throwing bombs.
Escalation of these tactics is inevitable, especially when those who would employ thjem are given credibility by others who should know better.
These people represent a fringe, and they should stay on the fringe because they make dangerous justifications and excuses for violent actions.
A person who say’s it’s OK to throw a bomb at a Recruiter’s office because it was at a time of day where people would be unlikely to be hurt ingore the inherent violence of the act, and the fasct that ther is not guarantee> that nobody will get hurt.
Anybody who was alive and in the country while Bernandine Dohrn, William Ayers and other lefto loonies were advocating throwing bombs, staging protests guaranteed to incite violence, and justifying doing thhose things by telling people that they do it because voting doesn’t reallywork ought to know that elevating a politician who is endorsed by them, or comes to office through actions committed to them is NOT the direction a Republic should be heading in.

Labeling me a “troll” ignores the fact that I’ve been posting here for three years, my posts have been met with a good deal of respect and agreement, and have often provided a [platform for some serious discussion.
That these discussions often go in a direction you’d rather they didn’t go is understandable.
Do you have any evidence that the Democratic Party has publicly endorsed that amateurish attempt to bomb a recruiting station in New York?
Mischaracterising my comments is beneath you, Simple, and is a hindrance to intellegent discussion.
I did not say the Democrat Party was behind that bombing, or publicly endorsed it.
I said it was an example of “Direct Action,” which it was by the definition given in that pamphlet from the “Recreate ‘68″ organization that wants to guide the course of the Democrat Convention using Direct Action.
My opinion on this is that anybody who follows that kind of drivel in order to get their political point acrros have a poltical point that nobody really wants to listen to, or has some serious logical flaws.
“I find it ironic, and perhaps a bit illuminating, therfore, that there is a highly organized faction of the Democrat Party out there that is basically telling the Democrat Party (and the rest of us):”
First, No one has ever accused the Democrats of being highly organized and by extension any of their various subfactions. That they have done so much better so far this year (turnouts and donations)is more a testimony to how disorganized and fragmented the Republican Party is now, however hope springs eternal that the Republican Party will get its collective act together by fall.
Second, A highly organized group would have leveled the building instead of the very minor damage that these idiots did do. Don’t get me wrong..bombers of any type deserve to go to jail and be left there, but you give these jokers far more credit than they deserve. There is just too much info out there on the Internet to aid the aspiring anarchist in bomb-making.
Third….Like most idiots of this ilk…They have achieved exactly the opposite of their intent.
I ran across a couple of interesting articles over at reason.com this morning. The first is about the presidential nominee that was selected for you by your party. (You can thank them later…)
On the campaign trail, John McCain has retreated on immigration, changed his mind on tax cuts and admitted economics is not his strong suit. But all that’s unimportant, we are told, because he was Right On Iraq—back at the beginning, when he endorsed the invasion, and again over the past year, when he has stoutly supported the surge. So, whichever Democrat he faces, the November election could be a referendum on the Iraq war and his support for it.
If so, that may not be a plus for McCain. McCain has been consistent about Iraq, in the sense of being consistently wrong. If the American people get a long look at what he’s said and a clear picture of our fortunes in Iraq, he may yearn for the days when he was being pilloried for offering “amnesty” to illegal immigrants.
The second article is an lengthy interview with Ed Burns, co-creator of HBO’s The Wire.
Burns is also a Vietnam veteran, a 20-year veteran of the Baltimore police force, and a teacher in the city’s public schools. He’s an outspoken critic of the drug war, the growth of prisons, and the structure, incentives, and organization of police departments.
Here’s some snips:
reason: This season of The Wire focuses pretty heavily on the media. What do you think the media does well when it comes to covering criminal justice issues, and what do you think it does poorly?
Ed Burns: I think a lot depends on who’s doing it. In specific cases, you can do extremely well as a reporter. My problem is more with the basic philosophy of how it’s done. It’s like a laser beam. They cover a specific aspect, or a specific trial, or a specific murder in a way that simplifies things, that makes them very stereotypical. It only takes one sentence to name the victim of a crime and the street where the crime took place. So they’re really only reporting something that we know is going to happen—because the conditions are there to make it happen—but they doesn’t go beyond that. There’s no context in crime reporting. That’s the problem.
reason: Slate’s media critic Jack Shafer has said that the media is at its absolute worst when covering the drug war. Do you agree with him, and if so, why do you think that it is?
Burns: Take just the term “war on drugs.” I mean, they’re not warring on drugs. They’re warring on drug addicts and the users and the small-time dealers. They’re warring on neighborhoods. They’re warring on people who can’t stand up to them. They’re not warring on major dealers.
You can follow it in any city, I don’t care how small it is or how big it is. If the paper is pretty avid about covering who’s getting locked up, you’ll notice that they’re not getting the big guys. They’re not getting the big stakeholders.
You are either intentionally mischaracterizing my posts or suffer deeply with a deficiency in reading comprehension.
I am speaking of the “highly organized” faction of the Deomcrat Party that calls itself “Recreate ‘68″ whose entire existence is to guide the Democrat Party to pick their preferred candidate and do it by “Direct Action” because People in the U.S. are preoccupied with voting to an unhealthy degree. And there is nothing in any of my posts which can be taken any other way by an objective reading of them.
Looks like my speeling is better than your comprehension.
If I had to pick between the two, I;d go with what I’ve got.
#3 L2H Just now checking in, I’m at the Salt mine AGAIN, so I can’t lurk very much. I don’t know who The “Cactus Cuties” are but they’re cretainly little cuties, and man can they sing. GREAT!!
For those who are not burned out on legal subjects, there is a very good discussion going on at Patterico’s website about “jury nullification”. Patterico is a LA prosecutor and he has been whipping up on libertarian extraordinaire, Radley Balko, for advocating lying, under oath, in order to effect nullification. Good stuff.
Back from the site watch this morning. We worked League City, and split into two groups while there. Both sites had shop keepers who welcomed us with open arms, and offered fresh coffee. Both shopkeepers told us to set up as much as we wanted to, and to come back as often as we wanted to. Very nice. The citizens were welcoming, with a lot of honks and waves. A few stopped by to lend support. And, I got a honk from a LAND ROVER……..first one. Thanks, Mr. Land Rover owner. A union steward stopped by to tell us how upset his guys are because wages in their craft, are so low, and he would help. A good day. Want to know the irony of the day? We were in the Good professor’s neighborhood, who stands against us at Stuebner Airline. hehehehehehe
Okay, from a friend who’s not Catholic or Irish, neither am I but, here’s A little Irish-Catholic Humor:
A married Irishman went into the confessional and said to his priest, ‘I almost had an affair with another woman.’
The priest said, ‘What do you mean, almost?’
The Irishman said, ‘Well, we got undressed and rubbed together, but then I stopped.’
The priest said, ‘Rubbing together is the same as putting it in. You’re not to see that woman again. For your penance, say five Hail Marys and put $50 in the poor box.’
The Irishman left the confessional, said his prayers, and then walked over to the poor box. He paused for a moment and then started to leave.
The priest, who was watching, quickly ran over to him saying, ‘I saw that. You didn’t put any money in the poor box!’
The Irishman replied, ‘Yeah, but I rubbed the $50 on the box, and according to you, that’s the same as putting it in!’
*****************************************
There once was a religious young woman who went to Confession. Upon entering the confessional, she said, ‘Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned.’
The priest said, ‘Confess your sins and be forgiven.’
The young woman said, ‘Last night my boyfriend made mad passionate love to me seven times.’
The priest thought long and then said, ‘Squeeze seven lemons into a glass and drink the juice.’
The young woman asked, ‘Will this cleanse me of my sins?’
The priest said, ‘No, but it will wipe that smile off of your face.’
*****************************************
Muldoon lived alone in the Irish countryside with only a pet dog for company. One day the dog died, and Muldoon went to the parish priest and asked, ‘Father, my dog is dead. Could ya be sayin’ a mass for the poor creature?’
Father Patrick replied, ‘I’m afraid not: We cannot have services for an animal in the church. But there are some Baptists down the lane, and there’s no tellin’ what they believe. Maybe they’ll do something for your dog.’
Muldoon said, ‘I’ll go right away, Father. Do ya think $5,000 is enough to donate to them for the service?’
Father Patrick exclaimed, ‘Sweet Mary, Mother of Jesus! Why didn’t ya tell me the dog was Catholic?’
*****************************************
An elderly man walks into a confessional. The following conversation ensues:
Man: ‘I am 92 years old, have a wonderful wife of 70 years, many children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Yesterday, I picked up two college girls, hitchhiking. We went to a motel, where I had sex with each of them three times.’
Priest: ‘Are you sorry for your sins?’
Man: ‘What sins?’
Priest: ‘What kind of a Catholic are you?’
Man: ‘I’m Jewish.’
Priest: ‘Why are you telling me all this?’
Man: ‘I’m 92 years old. I’m telling everybody.’
#64, Balko and Patterico have gotten into it before on jury nullification and both are good debaters.
The concept of jury nullification dates back to common law. It’s still necessary today because our system of justice is far less than perfectly fair or equal, and we have far to many legislators that are narrow minded buffoons, who pass new bad laws or refuse to recognize and fix existing ones.
I forgot to wish L2H a happy birthday, and I forgot to include a link to Balko’s side of the nullification debate with Patterico.
Speaking of nullification, I just received a jury summons in the mail yesterday. Hmmm, should I wear my Jury Nullification ROCKS! t-shirt? Or perhaps the Bong Hits 4 Jesus would be more appropriate if it’s a civil case.
Catholic Priest goes over to the Jewish Temple and asks the Rabbi ” I’m going to take a vacation, can you fill in for me at confession ?
Rabbi says ” I know nothing about that”
Priest says come in here and I shall show you.
They are in there and the first person walks in and gets seated.”Father I have sinned” Priest asks how have you sinned” She says “I lusted after a young mans body” Priest asks “How many times”
“Two” she said, Priest says say Ten Hail Mary’s and put $ 20.00 in the collection.
Next woman walks in and exactly the same thing. Say ten Hail Mary’s and put $ 20.00 in the collection”
Rabbis says this is easy. Next woman comes in and says ” Father I have sinned” Rabbis asks “How” She said “I lusted after a young mans body” Rabbi asked how many times. She answers “once”
Rabbi says “Go do it again, we have a two for $ 20.00 special.
Simple, jury nullification, if it’s even possible in Texas these days, was not possible in this case because the defendant plea-bargained.
I could cite numerous instances where various sexual offender laws have failed in their stated purpose, and others where justice was severely miscarried because of them.
When a law doesn’t work well and causes undue harms, it should be fixed. Laws are written by imperfect human beings that sometimes make honest mistakes. Saying The law’s the law and that’s final is one of the most offensive things I’ve heard from an alleged legislator.
Go on Main Street ( 518?)I think the direction from 45 is north. We were probably down about 3 miles. There was a car repair across the street, and we were set up at the store across from that. The other group was farther down towards town about 5,6 more blocks at another store on the corner.
See DaveD, it’s taken me 3 posts to figure out where I was hehehehe. The people in that area are very nice. I had no idea how long it would take me to arrive at our meeting site, I had to be there at 7:30, so I left at 6……… it took me 40 minutes lol.
I have a good idea, which means the federal government won’t like it, to help the economy immediately. Instead of spending all that money (which I heard was about $42 million) processing our rebates, why not just drop the federal taxes on gasoline and we can all benefit immediately. Since gas prices affect us, directly or indirectly, why wouldn’t this be a good solution?? Oh, I forgot, the government didn’t think of it!!!!!
LizBV, I’m still at work, spooling down and catching up on the paper work for the day, as soon as I finish up, I’m outta here. My Baby Girls is down from College Station and she and her mother are going out to eat, so sadly, there’s Nuttin’ fer supper. :=(

Just dropping in - Lovely Daughter came home yesterday afternoon and it’s been hard separating us since! And, coincidentally, she was talking about peeps yesterday afternoon!
It feels so good to have her back home! And now, she can clean up after her cat!
Dear Hubby and I have been looking at the new house stuff. It won’t be my dream home, as we’re having to buy cheapie ready-made cabinets (discontinued models) from McCoys until we can afford the type of cabinetry we’d like. Maybe in oh, 30 years we’ll have the debt paid off. I still haven’t figured out what to do about furniture…our home is decorated in early American garage sale, and it seems pitiful to put it into a new home. Pinching pennies, hugging daughter - such is my life!

Nytol, I got home about 7:30 to an empty house then my Baby girl and Bride came in with Tex-Mex for me, my Boy and his Gal friend. It was pretty good. I’ve spent the last 3 1/2 hours talking to my girl and Dusty’s girl about politics, cars and pole cats, (don’t ask). Now that my Daddy has passed away, my favorite person for talking about politics is my Lil’ sister, second my Baby Girl, they’re always up to date about everything that goes on in the world. When I talk to my wife it’s always me S’plainin’ it to her, she is not interested enough to really find out on her own, and trusts what I tell her,..sigh. When she asks who to vote for, I tell her to vote for who she thinks is best and she says “well who did you vote for?” I can’t complain though, because she has put up with my sorry a$$ for 33 years, and did I mention that I married way above my pay grade?
#110 - bubba don’t knock it ’till ya TRIED it - My Ma (Gawd rester) was a Texan through and through and she knew MANY ways to make taste buds dance with joy - with or withOUT a grill or smoker…….
texpat, I am glad she has been fired, and am trying to hope other reporters will understand there is a line….. don’t cross it. I don’t think that will happen though, because liberal reporters cannot apprehend that she did anything wrong. I am sure there will be an outpouring of support for her, in her group. It took some character for the station to do this, in today’s climate.

Hillary had one good week. It’s a long ways from over. Rather than shake the Magic 8 Ball and spout predictions, I think I’ll wait it out and watch it unfold.

#30 Perzactly Simple!
And I’m still concerned about the kinds of promises that will be made to Hill and Bill to get them on the ticket.
That’s NOT a prediction, it’s something that should concern us all.
Because they have both proven over the past 25 years that it dosn;t “Take a village” to get them involved.
“It takes a deal.”
the ideal ticket for the DNC is Hill/BO…I suspect “the deal” has already been cut, BO just doesn’t know it yet.
Then, of course, there’s these clowns:
http://recreate68.org/
Did Hillary supporters really try to steal the election in Texas City?
Your best bet is to write coherent/spell checked/brief letters and faxes (not emails) to those you believe will hear you and CHILL until it is time to vote.
The chances of influencing anyone else’s opinion at this point is pert near zilch.
Oh, c’mom Bob–
You KNOW the Democrats are dedicated to making every vote count so that the little man has his say.
They do that by making their primary process a byzantine maze that only experts can negotiate, denying the voters of entire states a role in the process, and insuring that Super Delegates can make sure the voters don’t make any mistakes by electing just anybody as thier nominee.
26&27: Sarge–thank you for telling him
So in other words Liz you’re making the same old tired argument in a little bit different way. It goes like this:
“I can’t debate you on the facts, so I;m going to point out something negative.”
“Don’t pay attention to the truth of what he says, pay attention to how he says it.”
It’s tired, trite, and doesn’t really convince anybody.

An excellent example of what we are dealing with is the description of “Direct Action” given on the “Recreate ‘68″ website:
http://recreate68.org/direct_action.pdf
The first two “Myths” about “Direct Action” they disuss are these:
Sarge: ie: muslims in France
43, Sarge

How was the spelling on that one?
Give everybody a break, Simple, or at least some credit for a degree of intellignece.
Labeling me a “troll” ignores the fact that I’ve been posting here for three years, my posts have been met with a good deal of respect and agreement, and have often provided a [platform for some serious discussion.

My opinion on this is that anybody who follows that kind of drivel in order to get their political point acrros have a poltical point that nobody really wants to listen to, or has some serious logical flaws.
Sarge,
Your words:

The second article is an lengthy interview with Ed Burns, co-creator of HBO’s The Wire.
Here’s some snips:

Hey there sarge. Long time no see.
Now, as they say in H+ll, Back on your heads.

Started reading the thread and it looked like it was going to get heated for a while. 27 more minuites and I am headed north. Goldwinging it.
I forgot to wish L2H a happy birthday, and I forgot to include a link to Balko’s side of the nullification debate with Patterico.
Speaking of nullification, I just received a jury summons in the mail yesterday. Hmmm, should I wear my Jury Nullification ROCKS! t-shirt? Or perhaps the Bong Hits 4 Jesus would be more appropriate if it’s a civil case.
bob,
That is why we have juries and jury-nullification. We should keep the law just the same.
I suspect the majority of 19 year old guys that get caught jumping an otherwise willing 15 year old are not going to stick around to be good fathers.
I hope the jury evaluates the evidence and makes the right decision.
It isn’t often that I agree with Dan, but this is one on them.
Simple
Hamous, you outdid yourself with this pic of the peep show! Too funny

#66 american woman, Where’bouts were you in League City, that’s just down the road from me?
Go on Main Street ( 518?)I think the direction from 45 is north. We were probably down about 3 miles. There was a car repair across the street, and we were set up at the store across from that. The other group was farther down towards town about 5,6 more blocks at another store on the corner.
I think the second convenience/gas station store was called Mr.Kelly’s? I didn’t even pay attention to the name of the one I worked.
At my sight there also was an equipment rental place just north across the street form my corner. Yes I worked a corner LOL

Oh what a tangled web we weave. She didn’t figure that she would need those Low-Class folks from a Red, backwater state like Mississippi.
