Not Gov. Eliot Spitzer (D-N.Y.). He spent the evening banging a call girl:
ALBANY - Gov. Eliot Spitzer has informed his most senior administration officials that he had been involved in a prostitution ring, an administration official said this morning.
Mr. Spitzer, who was huddled with his top aides inside his Fifth Avenue apartment early this afternoon, had hours earlier abruptly canceled his scheduled public events for the day. He scheduled an announcement for 2:15 after inquiries from the Times.
Mr. Spitzer, a first term Democrat who pledged to bring ethics reform an end the often seamy ways of Albany, is married with three children.
Just last week, federal prosecutors arrested four people in connection with an expensive prostitution operation. Administration officials would not say that this was the ring with which the governor had become involved.
But a person with knowledge of the governor’s role said that the person believes the governor is one of the men identified as clients in court papers.
The governor’s travel records show that he was in Washington in mid-February. One of the clients described in court papers arranged to meet with a prostitute who was part of the ring, the Emperors Club VIP on the night of Feb. 13.
When he’s not washing baby powder off himself before his wife gets home, Spitzer spends his time taking on The Really Big Issues, like the horrifying practice of executives making money.

In the past, some here have indicated call girl banging is not grounds for removing a public servant from office–as long as the officeholder was suitably conservative in his political positions.

Since what Vitter did was in the past and he was the man that stepped up to the plate for so many issues that conservatives wanted taken care of, I was willing to let his apology stand. I don’t know if this case with Spitzer means that he utilized a call girl or was part of the ring itself which, IMHO, is a lot worse. What is also bad is that this guy prosecuted others for what he is now caught doing.

31 - When I say caught, I mean either indicted or at least “stone cold busted”. Even if you’re eventually found not guilty, you should pretty much call your political career quits, because your damaged goods - your ability to represent and lead becomes compromised.

Now, it appears there will be an announcement at 7 PM in which he will resign. The letter is supposed to be on its way being hand-carried to the Capitol in Albany right now. David Patterson is the Lt. Governor and will be sworn in as Governor. He will be the first black man to hold that job and, as far I know, the first blind man to be governor of any state in history. That itself is pretty amazing.
He’s resigning? Great. Now Vitter and the Idaho Bathroom Boy have given the Dems the moral high ground on sex scandals.
Couldn’t they resign and blame it on their medicine or something?

The closest I have ever come to a prostitute and known it was when I was a cocktail waitress at the Shamrock Hilton. We had a young woman who worked the bar. What a tragedy for Spitzer’s three daughters! They are probably going to have a very difficult time trusting men in their future lives because of this hypocrite father. If I was his wife, I’d have been gone.
