The scandalized Governor of New York, Eliot Spitzer, has been outdone by a Muslim law enforcement official. Proving once again life is far stranger than fiction, Reza Zarei, Chief of Police in Tehran, has been arrested in a brothel there in the company of not one, or two, but six women. No one in the room was clothed according to news reports.
The irony index, as a factor in human life, soared off the charts as word of the arrest was leaked out by Iranian bloggers. Reza Zarei was the leading force behind recent efforts of the fascist police in Iran to enforce new and stricter modesty codes for women’s dress in public. Agence France Presse described the crackdown last September:
Iran is pressing on with one of its toughest moral crackdowns in years, warning tens of thousands of women over slack dress, targeting “immoral” cafes and seizing illegal satellite receivers, local media reported on Monday.
The Iranian police launched the crackdown in April in a self-declared drive to “elevate security in society” that encompassed arrests of thugs, raids on underground parties and street checks of improperly dressed individuals.
Reza Zarei, commander of police in Tehran province, said that since the drive began police in his region have handed out 113,454 warnings to women found to have infringed Iran’s strict Islamic dress rules.

Will the male citizens riot in the streets, burning cars, and effigies of this man. Will his life be threatened to the point he needs to go into exile? Will he write a best selling book about the brothel business in Iran? The irony, he is found naked with naked women while he forces Iranian women to cover themselves.
The last time I was with 6 hookers in Tehran…

If Reza Zarei were an American, he would go on Oprah and apologize and then get his own cable television show.
Texpat, ah you know our culture well. This belongs on another thread, but do you think that will be Spitzer’s next step? hehe… I’ll look over there for the answer.
Pay attention, everyone. THAT’s how to write a comment.
And then he would stone her to death.
#6 I agree Matt, but I have been waiting and waiting for him to write the ” rest of the story”
Wonder how this was playing in the holy halls of the theocracy. How come there even was a brothel?
No wonder the gov’t types wanted to squelch this news. Yea for bloggers.
Have seen this picture elsewhere in connection with a totally different story, likely one on suppression of women in Iran. Should be clarified that these ladies are NOT prostitutes, in case they can be identified.
#5 Glad I could contribute.
#3 & #6 - Not before a stint in rehabracadabra.
Bill Clinton will be wanted to get notes from this guy before they execute him.
He’s very courageous that Chief. Entangled with six pair of hairy legs, armpits, and lack of feminine products. Kudo’s.
Prediction: The six women will be stoned to death, he will of course get off with 30 days in the local jail or something equally light.
Wouldn’t mind goin’ to Tehran for the Six-Pack-O-Hookers deal but the thing I fear is that, when I lift the cloth like some 21st century Matthew Brady, I spot the same fashion accessories I took into the shower with me this morning.
They weren’t in public so they can dress however they want. It is not hypocritical at all. If he was caught with them in the local park, then it would be hypocritical.

If there was any implication these women are prostitutes, I plead guilty and most emphatically deny it. This is a random file photo, I think, from AFP or Reuters of Iranian women on the street in Tehran. I apologize for any misunderstanding.

Let me see if I understand your assertion here. If I understand it correctly, you are somehow defending the Iranian prostitutes from a hypocritical accusation, which has not been made by me, anyone I know or implied by any commenter here. All accusations of hypocrisy have pointed towards Mr. Spitzer and no one else of which I am aware. As a matter of curiosity, what is your point ?

And, of course, Mr. Reza Zarei.
It’s nice to see that country is imploding. It goes to show you that the country, internally, wants change. They like the “western” ways or modernization.
#17 Texpat, Oops, I did not see any implication in the piece that the ladies in the picture were prostitutes. But given the possible worldwide circulation through the ether perhaps some Iranian males could jump to conclusions, particularly since internally the lid’s been clamped on this story. It is a strange world over there with strange mindsets. Perhaps I’m overly cautious.
Let’s be real? here. He is only on a campaign to enforce modesty IN PUBLIC. He was hardly in public…..ha ha . The differnce is that the 6 women may be very badly treated buytHe is not likely to have his ‘winky’ cut off is he; He’ a bloke!
Of course, it wasn’t reported that one of the “women” was Osama Bin Sneaky! Those Middle Eastern cops can be SO kinky!
Besides, there is probably a perfectly innocent explanation, like, he was allowing the poor girls to do community service to work off a dress code violation.
