Arizona Sen. John McCain has introduced federal legislation to protect talk radio shows from the reinstatement of past rules that required dissenting voices be given equal time on their shows.
McCain and fellow GOP Senators John Thune of South Dakot and Norm Coleman of Minnesota have put forward legislation preventing the reinstatement of the ‘Fairness Doctrine.’
#10, that is good to know. The article says Mike Pence also worked on a protection to stop the fairness doctrine, and it passed the house. Do we know what happened to any of this legislation?
Good morning all. Plenty to chew on already in the links above.
Irony abounds in that Eliot Spitzer as former NY Attorney General caught suspects in his investigations through banks having to disclose deposits of over $10k. The law’s original intent was to stop money laundering by drug dealers. Umm so what tipped off the Feds about him? Depositing more than $10k and then asking the bank to not disclose it. Yikes. Hoist on his own petard.
There’s a place in the world for the angry young man
With his working class ties and his radical plans
He refuses to bend, he refuses to crawl,
He’s always at home with his back to the wall.
And he’s proud of his scars and the battles he’s lost,
And he struggles and bleeds as he hangs on the cross-
And he likes to be known as the angry young man.
Give a moment or two to the angry young man,
With his foot in his mouth and his heart in his hand.
He’s been stabbed in the back, he’s been misunderstood,
It’s a comfort to know his intentions are good.
And he sits in a room with a lock on the door,
With his maps and his medals laid out on the floor-
And he likes to be known as the angry young man.
I believe I’ve passed the age of consciousness and righteous rage
I found that just surviving was a noble fight.
I once believed in causes too,
I had my pointless point of view,
And life went on no matter who was wrong or right.
And there’s always a place for the angry young man,
With his fist in the air and his head in the sand.
And he’s never been able to learn from mistakes,
So he can’t understand why his heart always breaks.
But his honor is pure and his courage as well,
And he’s fair and he’s true and he’s boring as hell-
And he’ll go to the grave as an angry old man.
American public support for the military effort in Iraq has reached a high point unseen since the summer of 2006, a development that promises to reshape the political landscape.
According to late February polling conducted by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press, 53 percent of Americans — a slim majority — now believe “the U.S. will ultimately succeed in achieving its goals” in Iraq. That figure is up from 42 percent in September 2007.
Even with the MSM hiding the good news and highlighting anything that even looks bad, the news is getting out to folks, largely thanks to blogs and talk radio.
Ed Morrisey comments:
It’s not just Republicans, either. Half of all independents now believe that the US needs to remain in place until the gains in Iraq have been secured. The one presidential candidate arguing that policy also happens to be the Senator who spent the last three years arguing for a better counterinsurgency strategy in Iraq. John McCain already had significant appeal for centrists and independents, and this makes his case even stronger.
That’s because while a policy of surrender while “losing” is debatable among Americans, most of them can agree that surrender while winning is just. plain. stupid.
They also know that saying a war is lost whjile you’re winning is either an outright lie, or the kind of mistake that people with the reins of power in thier hands shouldn’t be making.
BTW;
Last year at this time, NBC (and a lot of commenters here who, for some reason, don’t want to comment on Iraq here anymore) made a very pulbic statment that they had determined that Iraq was in a state of Civle War and were going to report it that way.
Anybody wanna make any bets as to when they come out with an equally public pronouncement that Iraq is no longer in a state of Civil War—or very likely never was?
That picture was taken just before Quannie double nickel turned and ran from Joe Hornes house. He returned surrounded by more people including little girls.
She refused emergency medical services but was finally convinced by responders and her boyfriend that she needed to be checked out. She was taken to a hospital in Wichita, about 150 miles southeast of Ness City, where she is listed in fair condition. Whipple said she has refused to cooperate with medical providers or law enforcement investigators.
This lady probably has some kind of phobia and needs help, so I’m not laughing at her. What I found most amusing (and appropriate) is that the name of the Kansas City Sheriff is Mr. Whipple.
It’s coming, shut up and sit down, accept Islam law–Submit to the will of Allah, or else. How’re you supposed to fight if the shut down your ability to speak about the terrorism?
(CNSNews.com) - An international humanist organization has warned that Islamic governments are trying to use the United Nations to shut down free speech. The warning comes as a bloc of Islamic states is holding a summit with “Islamophobia” high on the agenda.
snip
The 57-member bloc is considering a report by a new body set up to monitor instances of what many Muslims view as growing prejudice against them and their religion, particularly in the years since 9/11.
Warning that Islamophobia poses a threat to global peace and security, the 58-page report by the “Islamophobia Observatory” examines the reasons for the perceived trend — exemplified by stereotyping, hostility, discriminatory treatment and the denigration of “the most sacred symbols of Islam” — and suggests ways to combat it.
The only reason the Republican Candidate for President will get my vote this year is because the Democrats choose put up even bigger idiots than we did.
Yeah, HAL, I know it’s been awhile since I posted an article, but I’ll be patient. Of course, one totally disappeared the other day, but I guess it wasn’t important.
I think HELLary is going to steal the nomination from “BO” by buying “super delegates”. There is no level low enough that HELLary/Bill will stoop to in order to get back into the White House. They probably forgot to steal something the first time!!!!! Or they realized there is more money to be made in selling pardons!!!! Both options are just a few of the thousands of things that will be done if those two get back into control.
As far as I know, neither Mc Cain, Clinton nor Obama are signing on the new immigration legislation sponsored by Heath Shuler. Looks like they (the pres. candidates) are keeping the borders wide open.

So will the fairness doctrine demand that newspapers hire an equal number of conservative columnists, publish and equal number of conservative editorials of the same size on the same subjects, endorse an equal number of conservative and liberal candidates, take equal sides on issues of abortion, taxes, defense, homosexuality……. blah blah blah. What a bunch of horse manure.
Got this in an e-mail. Haven’t verified, but gave me a smile:
FACTS TO PONDER :
(A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000.
(B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000.
(Calculation) Accidental deaths per physician is
0.171
Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of
Health Human Services.
Now think about this:
Guns:
(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S is
80,000,000.
(Yes, that’s 80 million..)
(B) The number of accidental gun deaths
per year, all age groups, is 1,500.
(Calculation) The number of accidental deaths
per gun owner is .000188
Statistics courtesy of FBI
So, statistically, doctors are approximately
9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.
Remember, ‘Guns don’t kill people, doctors do.’
Fact: Not everyone has a gun, but almost everyone has at least one Dr.
Please alert your friends to this alarming threat.
We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!!!!!
Out of concern for the public at large, I withheld the statistics on lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention!
Reply to No. 47: My understanding is that Ten gets his money via contributions from black activists. And there was rumor that he was cashing in on rewards via turning in, “safely”, any of the “brothers” that Crime Stoppers had rewards for. And since Ten is not a preacher like Jesse or Al, there is no flock for him to fleece. Look, Ten saw an opportunity like Jesse and Al did and now he is capitalizing in on it. Remember the “race” card is still very playable or at least until “BO” (hopefully doesn’t) gets elected to the highest office in the land.
53: Big45 - No, No, No, you don’t understand! The only place we need the fairness doctrine is in talk radio! Everything else is OK. (We’re just going to shut down the conservative blogs out of hand.)
#51 McCain is going to have a problem during the election with the Boeing/Airbus contract. Pat and Edd were talking about it this morning. McCain may be totally above board…… or it could be DC politics as usual…….. and that pushes people to Obama.
A lot of us suspect Farrakhan is backing him. Quannel was thrown out of the Nation of Islam here but he has some big bucks backing him. Black Suburbans for his entourage and he drives the black hummer. I just found out you can buy a Hummer more reasonably than the Suburbans.
And the powers to be here at LST won’t let me post his address However it’s on the classy side of Gleannloch Farms.
39. trl3 Says:
March 13th, 2008 at 11:28 am
Appears right now that we have been give 3 choices for President;
BAD
WORSE and
TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLEALL
ALL THREE CANDIDATES ARE TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.
If you vote for McCain you are telling the Republican Party that you may be a conservative, but you WILL VOTE for a LIBERAL.
DO NOT VOTE FOR McCAIN.
McCain will sell us out in a New York Second. I would not trust him to borrow an anvil without returning it as powdered iron. And don’t even start whining about SCOTUS, remember the Gang of 14? Freedom of speech, McCain/Feingold, Man Made Global Warming McCain/Lieberman, unscrupulous financial dealings, The Keating Five, what more do you want? How about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder? The man was tortured as a POW for five and one half years. Trust me his elevator does not go all the way up. He is a LIBERAL NOT A CONSERVATIVE. Demand a candidate you can support.
The other two can be summed up in three words, WILD EYED LIBERALS.
No, I don’t eat donuts and very seldom Pizza. Have you gone in the pet store? It’s all reptiles, amphibians, and arachnids. They have a scorpion that can kill you in 15 minutes.
Speaking of fine young women…. it seems the devalued dollar is hitting my kiddo’s pocketbook, and she says it is falling by the minute…….. mom and dad, send money ..hehehehe Not a word about what she is doing, or where she is….. but a short beg because her cash isn’t stretching as far.
OH that retile shop had an ad in the tomball paper a coupon with 10% off on the scorpion. ok i want to know what kind of law enforecement guy does not eat donuts?
#75 - So, effectively, you’re lending support to either Obama or Clinton. Do you consider them a better choice than McCain? And please don’t say there’s no difference, there is a vast difference and only a fool would claim otherwise.
What if……… we put Hillary in as president? Then, we keep her embroiled in scandal for 4 years. That shouldn’t be hard to do……The country will be so sick of dems by the end of her term, we take it all.
#80 - Didn’t work with Bill……. It’s possible, but if she has a Democrat congress, who’s gonna stop her? Liberal press, liberal congress, liberal president - the perfect storm. 2 or 3 SCOTUS justices, a whole bunch of Federal Judges, the damage she (or Obama) could do would last for decades.
And, BTW L2H, McCain might not pick the best judges, we know for sure Hillary or BO would pick the worst.
AW wow!!!! yup yup i been thinkin thata way myself and this next election will be a bad downer for the economy and the party in power may not see another prez for 20 years like the 1932 era.
#86 Congressional lifetime…….that alone is a scary title…….. and it’s true with all it’s minuses. I just don’t know how we get off this hamster wheel of electing men/women who have the “inside the beltway” stamp.
If ACU = Amercan Concervative Union, and ACU Ratings (Congressional lifetime) are equal to
John McCain - 82.3
Ron Paul - 82.3
And John McCain is a Liberal and 82.3 = 82.3 then
Ron Paul is a Liberal or if you look at my previous post his elevator doesn’t go all the way to the top either.
As to SCOTUS judges, if McCain is elected, what liberal on the bench is going to resign? Now, they may die……. but I don’t think one of them will leave while he could appoint. That means, I have suffered 4 years of McCain for nothing. Then, everyone says, but you have to re-elect McCain because of the SCOTUS judges, so now I have given him 8years. Granted in the last 4 he might be choosing SCOTUS judges.
AW - If Obamillary wins Ginsberg and Stevens will most likely retire. Obamillary WILL appoint liberal judges. Suppose the Dems get 60 in the Senate (unlikely but not improbable). Its all over then.
With McCain I fear what he will do with immigration. With an opposition president, our side can do everything in their power to stop her. If it’s our own president… they will knuckle under, because they have pet projects, etc.
GOOD NEWS…… the boy who committed the crime of buying skittles at school……… has been reinstated…… His mom and dad had a meeting….
#100 AW - I’m concerned about that too. But McCain has publicly stated he “got the message” on amnesty. Now normally I’d be extremely distrustful about a politician saying he’s changed his mind but I’ve been looking for an instance where McCain said he would vote one way and then voted the other. Haven’t been able to find anything. I’m open to any evidence anyone else can find.
Because the Democrats are expected to be liberals the Republicans aren’t. See I made that mistake with Presidente Jorge Bush. Yeah he stayed the course smacking down the folks that tried to off his daddy, but then was going to sell us all out to the illegal aliens in this country, mainly from that third world country Mexico. Personally I’d let Saddam and his two sociopathic son do what ever they wanted to do in Iraq and send all these press 2 for Spanish cucarachas back where they came from and use the military to seal the southern border. If that banana republic they called Mexico so much as protested I’d attack them, conquer their pitiful country, take their oil as war repatriations and annex them so they were Americans. Oh I would leave boys town intact so the politicians would have some place to go.
Well Hamous, that’s good to know, and I respect and appreciate your research…. you know how I hate doing that. If you find one, please let me know. It’s a long way to November……. many things could happen.
#105 - I just thought of one case (sort of). McCain voted against the Bush tax cuts initially. He now supports their extension. Of course he now has six years of evidence to see that the tax cuts worked as advertised.
#104 L2H - I must confess, I’m shocked at your willingness to cast aside everything that Ron Paul has taught you about foreign policy and unilaterally attack a foreign country without a declaration of war. For shame, for shame
The man will say and do anything to get elected. The tax cuts don’t cost him anything. I want to hear him say, “I will secure the border, enforce present immigration laws, and deport everyone caught that are here illegally. I will work to change the court ruling that says “anyone born here is a citizen” any prior to that change will remain a citizen, HOWEVER if the parents are here illegally they must leave. They can take the child with them or leave it here for adoption”.
108 - I don’t think you will find a single serious political candidate that will say that. You’re gonna have a really short list of people to vote for.
#108 luv2 - Like I said, I’m open to any evidence you can provide of that. From his “issues” page:
I have always believed that our border must be secure and that the federal government has utterly failed in its responsibility to ensure that it is secure. If we have learned anything from the recent immigration debate, it is that Americans have little trust that their government will honor a pledge to do the things necessary to make the border secure.
As president, I will secure the border. I will restore the trust Americans should have in the basic competency of their government. A secure border is an essential element of our national security. Tight border security includes not just the entry and exit of people, but also the effective screening of cargo at our ports and other points of entry.
This is ICE page of arrests this month. The link may not go through, but there is a lot of child porn on this….. I thought they were immigration and security.
What scares me is he thought it was secure when he came out with McCain/Kennedy. This guy is a liberal whose elevator stops a few floors short of the top. By the way violent temper displays are a symptom of PTSD.
First, he is using his definition of “secure” and knowing his history I doubt it means the same thing to you and me. Also I didn’t see other buzz word such as “immigration law enforcement, deportation, verifying documentation and employer sanctions”. Did you know that the plan is to let the border state governors decide if their respective states borders are secure? Remember Gov. Rick “Good Hair” Perry promised the same thing. The only thing I like about him is that jacket he wore when he made that lying statement.
I may have been born at night, but it wasn’t last night. I see first hand the problems caused by las cucarachas and I deal with them daily. No I will NOT vote for McCain.
I honor his service, but in McCain’s case, the use of fear tactics to win the presidency backfires. Don’t want someone w/ PTSD, anger issues and a personal axe to grind as CIC.
If they win it’s because the Republicans didn’t offer an alternative.
Who are “the Republicans” you speak of? There were ten candidates that chose to run for the Republican nomination. There was no secret cabal that picked McCain. Republican voters CHOSE McCain. He wasn’t my first choice. Heck, he wasn’t even my fifth choice. But he’s the candidate the majority of Republicans chose. That’s how its supposed to work.
116 - AW: He scares me too! But either of the democrats would be far worse - on a lot more issues? I don’t like the choices I have, but I believe that given those choices I have to pick the least evil.
One good thing perhaps - given his age, it’s very possible that McCain won’t run for re-election. Even if he does conservatives could find an opponent for the primaries in 4 years. But either way, remember that, in politics, the difference between bad and worse is far more important than the difference between good and bad.
Vote your principals. History shows that you can’t trust the party establishment to promote good candidates, and the candidates they do promote do not fulfill their promises.
It’s only the fact that there’s only one other major party that continues to gives the DNC and RNC the ability to present us with the lesser of two evils.
I honor his service, but in McCain’s case, the use of fear tactics to win the presidency backfires. Don’t want someone w/ PTSD, anger issues and a personal axe to grind as CIC.
Okay darling, what fear tactics? Do you have evidence McCain suffers from PTSD, besides luv2’s expert opinion? And what is his “personal axe to grind”?
Anyone that has been subject to traumatic situations suffer from this. The question is does it cloud his judgement? I would say his temper outbursts say yes. He was totured for 5 1/2 years. Look at survivors of NAZI concentration camps. Most are dead now, but years ago I heard one speak and they told of the fear they lived with everyday that the United States would collapse and there would be no where to run.
I don’t think it’s an unfair question to wonder about how McCain can handle the stress and weight of the presidency. Each president has aged noticeably from the time they enter office, till they exit. I was just observing the change in George Bush, the other day. Most presidents enter healthy, without a past that includes severe torture and constant life threatening situations. It may be unfair to say he should not hold office, but it could be a problematic situation.
128: You have my respect, and gratitude, for your combat service. And, I’m more than willing to accept your assertion that combat always causes PTSD to some degree.

FA–that’s the plan.
#51 McCain is going to have a problem during the election with the Boeing/Airbus contract. Pat and Edd were talking about it this morning. McCain may be totally above board…… or it could be DC politics as usual…….. and that pushes people to Obama.

I neglected to include the link associated with my #34 about the woman that’s been going potty for two years.
Hopefully I’ve got the html right this time.

Appears right now that we have been give 3 choices for President;
BAD
WORSE and
TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLEALL
The other two can be summed up in three words, WILD EYED LIBERALS.
luv2 have you tried the new donut place by mike’s and ya know i see a domino’s coming there!!!
No, I don’t eat donuts and very seldom Pizza. Have you gone in the pet store? It’s all reptiles, amphibians, and arachnids. They have a scorpion that can kill you in 15 minutes.
Tedtam, I missed you on the radio this morning, and only caught Pat and Edd afterwards. I applaud you and your fine young woman.
Shannon………… SouthernTragedy has released you from your May contract………. TELL US
The house is going into a closed session today, to discuss fisa……. only the 5th time in history. Should we be very afraid?

Patience, grasshopper, patience.

Shannon…… grasshoppers spit……..hehehehe

I would change LIBERAL to SOCIALIST.

Okay - so who’re YOU going to vote for pray tell?

Luv2 is going to vote for Dog Catcher of the year.
If a liberal is my only choice I will skip it and continue down the ballot.

WE don’t have animal control in Waller County, so I’m not voting on that either.
#75 - So, effectively, you’re lending support to either Obama or Clinton. Do you consider them a better choice than McCain? And please don’t say there’s no difference, there is a vast difference and only a fool would claim otherwise.
dj
I just don’t eat them. A hold over from my bicycle racing days I guess. Too many empty calories.

ACU Ratings (Congressional lifetime):
John McCain - 82.3
Ron Paul - 82.3
Is Baghwan Ron a liberal?
l2h That is like the old saying that it is better to remain silent and let people think you are a fool than to open your mouth and prove it.
(not aimed at anyone here)
87 I was gonna say…..nevermind
#86 Congressional lifetime…….that alone is a scary title…….. and it’s true with all it’s minuses. I just don’t know how we get off this hamster wheel of electing men/women who have the “inside the beltway” stamp.
#86 hamous
If ACU = Amercan Concervative Union, and ACU Ratings (Congressional lifetime) are equal to
John McCain - 82.3
Ron Paul - 82.3
And John McCain is a Liberal and 82.3 = 82.3 then
Ron Paul is a Liberal or if you look at my previous post his elevator doesn’t go all the way to the top either.
Okay, everyone, McCain is interviewed tonite by Hannity–so a lot of questions should be answered.
H&C–8PM
As to SCOTUS judges, if McCain is elected, what liberal on the bench is going to resign? Now, they may die……. but I don’t think one of them will leave while he could appoint. That means, I have suffered 4 years of McCain for nothing. Then, everyone says, but you have to re-elect McCain because of the SCOTUS judges, so now I have given him 8years. Granted in the last 4 he might be choosing SCOTUS judges.
#90 I thought you had got on the RP bandwagon.
hamous are you trlling
http://www.untwistedvortex.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/06/dontfeedthetroll.jpg
AW - If Obamillary wins Ginsberg and Stevens will most likely retire. Obamillary WILL appoint liberal judges. Suppose the Dems get 60 in the Senate (unlikely but not improbable). Its all over then.
#94 dow - why would you say that?
#95 what if our republicans actually grew some and did everything in their power to stop the appointment? Remember what Clarence Thomas went through?
ACU ratings: Obama 8.0
Clinton 9.0
McCain 82.3
But hey there’s not really any difference.
#92 AW
How is suffering through 4 years of McCain worse than suffering thru 4 years of Hillorama?
With McCain I fear what he will do with immigration. With an opposition president, our side can do everything in their power to stop her. If it’s our own president… they will knuckle under, because they have pet projects, etc.
GOOD NEWS…… the boy who committed the crime of buying skittles at school……… has been reinstated…… His mom and dad had a meeting….
http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/03/13/skittles.suspension.ap/index.html?section=cnn_latest
oh and 100 wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee better late than never
#97 AW - if the dems get 60 votes in the Senate there is nothing the pubbies can do to stop a nomination.
99. fa
106. hamous
ICE has been busy in Arizona, 600 arrested.
http://www.ice.gov/pi/news/newsreleases/articles/080310phoenix.htm
Here is ICE home page and description……… What are they doing involved in all this child porn stuff?
I’m going to try this again…… ICE arrests 600 in Arizona.
http://www.ice.gov/pi/news/newsreleases/articles/080310phoenix.htm
#108 luv2 - Like I said, I’m open to any evidence you can provide of that. From his “issues” page:
This is ICE page of arrests this month. The link may not go through, but there is a lot of child porn on this….. I thought they were immigration and security.
http://www.ice.gov/pi/news/newsreleases/
Still wondering why dow said I was trolling…
#113 - so, should we put you down as an Obama supporter, or are you fonder of Ms. Clinton?
#114
fa
If they win it’s because the Republicans didn’t offer an alternative.
This article sums up every thing I fear about John McCain.
http://www.amconmag.com/2008/2008_02_11/cover2.html
I honor his service, but in McCain’s case, the use of fear tactics to win the presidency backfires. Don’t want someone w/ PTSD, anger issues and a personal axe to grind as CIC.
Bravo luv2hammer!
Vote your principals. History shows that you can’t trust the party establishment to promote good candidates, and the candidates they do promote do not fulfill their promises.
It’s only the fact that there’s only one other major party that continues to gives the DNC and RNC the ability to present us with the lesser of two evils.
115 - Neatly avoiding any personal responsibility for your choice - “it was those eeeeeviiiilll republicans what made me do it!”
Okay darling, what fear tactics? Do you have evidence McCain suffers from PTSD, besides luv2’s expert opinion? And what is his “personal axe to grind”?
#120 Fat Albert, I understand, I really do. I just keep chanting…… it’s a long way till November, it’s a long way to November hehe
hamous
Did you bother to read the article whose link AW posted?
I guess not.
121. Hamous
#123 luv2 - of course I did. Antle expresses many of the same concerns I have with McCain. It’s still an opinion piece. Nothing more, nothing less.
124 - Luv 2: Are you speaking (and diagnosing) professionally? Have you had PTSD? Or is this just another reason to justify you dislike for McCain?
Then our coversation is over on this subject.
126 fa
I did two tours in Nam and was in combat. Everybody that went through combat has PTSD to some extent.
