Well, it’s my birthday….. again. Just like the fellow pictured above, I’m out in search of some tail this weekend.

Mornin all, another day that God has given to us.™

  3. emmekelley on March 15th, 2008 at 8:06 am

BigJ was late so I could be second today. ;)
Off to the rodeo to see Brad today. Everyone have a wonderful and great day that God has given to each and everyone one of us. As I tell my dad, be grateful that you are not six feet under. :)

I wanted to repost this from yesterday for AW and Liz with their AOL. ;)

Mujibar was trying to get a job in India.
The Personnel Manager said, “Mujibar, you have passed all the tests, except one. Unless you pass it you cannot qualify for this job.”

    Mujibar said, “I am ready.”

The manager said, “Make a sentence using the words Yellow, Pink and Green.”

Mujibar thought for a few minutes and said, “Mister manager, I am ready.”

    The manager said, “Go ahead.”

Mujibar said, “The telephone goes green, green, and I pink it up, and say, Yellow, this is Mujibar. ”

Mujibar now works as a technician at a call center for computer problems. No doubt you have spoken to him.

Mornin’ emmek and all: It is a great day. I thank HIM every day when I first open my eyes. With everything bad that’s going on in this world, we still have a lot to be thankful for.

As we get older our prayer list gets longer - but our thank list grows too!

  17. LizBV on March 15th, 2008 at 9:01 am

Was a strange morning on the compound - foggy and the dogs were going nuts - which usually means coyotes are out in force. The dogs were highly agitated and the cats perched on the window sills, peering out wide eyed and growling.

The dogs turned on eachother and the alpha dog (my personal protector - Libby) had to be subdued by brute force when it attacked the 2nd in command dog. (Sarge whacked her w/ a lawn chair, but she’s OK and locked in the house w/ me now.)

Still waiting for the fog to burn off and the coyotes to clear the area before letting the dogs out again…

Since no one responded to this in yesterday’s OC thread, I thought I’d repost it…

Anyone care to guess who wrote these words and sponsored HR 46, which would put an end to “anchor babies” and introduced the Social Security for American Citizens Only Act??

For decades we have welcomed new immigrants to our American “melting pot”. We respect those who come here peacefully to pursue their American Dream. But Americans have noticed lately that modern problems associated with illegal immigration are at a crisis point. Taxpayers are now suffering the consequences.

Costs of social services for the estimated 21 million illegal immigrants in this country are approaching $400 billion. We educate 4.2 million children of illegals at a cost of $13.8 billion. There have been almost 2 million anchor babies born in this country since 2002, with labor and delivery costs of between $3 and 6 billion. There are currently 360,000 illegals in our prisons and we have spent $1.4 billion to incarcerate them since 2001. In Prince William County near DC, ICE can’t deport criminal illegals fast enough and has actually asked its local jails to slow down on referring them. Jurisdiction over illegal immigration lies at the federal level, yet many municipalities are struggling with the compounding problems of mandated costs and tied hands. My office has heard from at least one sheriff in my district considering seeking compensation from the Federal government for the cost of so many illegal immigrant inmates that wouldn’t be here if the Federal government was doing its job and protecting our borders. The problems are widespread.

One thing is certain: If we subsidize them, they will come. We have rolled out the social services red carpet, so it is no surprise that many from other countries are eager to come take advantage of our very generous system.

We must return to the American principle of personal responsibility. We must expect those who come here to take care of themselves and respect our laws. Not only is this the right thing to do for our overtaxed citizens, but we simply have no choice. We can’t afford these policies anymore. Since we are $60 trillion in debt, there should be no taxpayer-paid benefits for non-citizens. My bill, the Social Security for American Citizens Only Act, stops non-citizens from collecting Social Security Benefits. This bill, by the way, picked up three new cosponsors this week and is gaining momentum. Also, we should not be awarding automatic citizenship to children born here minutes after their mothers illegally cross the border. It just doesn’t make sense. The practice of birthright citizenship is an aberration of the original intent of the 14th amendment, the purpose of which was never to allow lawbreakers to bleed taxpayers of welfare benefits. I have introduced HJ Res 46 to address this loophole. Other Western countries such as Australia , France , and England have stopped birth-right citizenship. It is only reasonable that we do the same. We must also empower local and state officials to deal with problems the Federal government can’t or won’t address. Actions like this are a matter of national security at this point.

Illegal immigration is draining and frustrating the American taxpayer. I will continue to work for a solution that does not reward those who break our laws.

I have 7 dogs and had our share of fights. What I did is go to the local feed store and buy a bull prod. This does the trick for breaking up the fight and you don’t have to worry about injuring the dog.

One of the fights at my house cost me $700 in vet bills. Females are vicious in a fight. When two males fight one of the dogs submits and the fight is over. Females try to kill the other dog.

Katfish - I got the answer. Speaking of the ladies and their directions, I had a coworker come in from out of town and got lost getting to our office. She called me up for directions. Said she was on Fulton. I asked her what street she was on when she turned onto Fulton. She said “Cavalcade”. Now we’re getting somewhere. I asked her what direction she turned onto Fulton, north or south. She said “left”. Ok, what direction was she going on Cavalcade, east or west? “I don’t know! Right.” Ladies, left and right are indeed directions but they’re relative. You can’t know where you’re going if you don’t know where you’ve been ;-)

Be really careful with that Bull Prod.

The one I got was pretty powerful and it was to break up the dogfights.

Alfie (My prized male Old English Sheepdog) and another male would fight over the female when she came in heat. I “think” the one I got was 80,000 volts. The next fight I hit Alfie on the butt with it. He snapped around, grabbed my arm and his teeth tore a sharp bite as it ripped downwards.

He let loose, sat down and looked up at me with a look that said “I just messed up, I’m sorry” And I thought to myself “I caused it, don’t punish the dog”

And on another note I also “think” that AW is probably at Fiesta on 45 north of 610. There is a day labor site there. Might be wrong tho.

Good morning all. As Liz said it has been a somewhat strange morning out here in Richmond/Rosenberg weatherwise. At 6 it was 59, clear and dry, but about 20 minutes later thick ground fog appeared almost like a curtain dropping. Hazy remnants still around, though the wind’s come up from west/northwest to chase it away. Now it’s raining liveoak leaves.

Very few bird calls until well after Sunup.
Kitties were acting normally but stayed on the mat at the back door rather than venturing into the yard.

    Re # 24

As far as I’m concerned it was a tragic accident AND injury to a child.

I was at Town and Country and at the Will Call to Foleys. Walk out the door and Officers have a car surrounded. Female Officer says to the toddler inside the vehicle “Now baby take your little sister to the other side and look at the Officers over there”

Child does as told. Woman comes running out of Foleys hollering. “I’m here, I’m here” Female Officer says “Too Late” and her Mag light tapped the window one good time. Crash. Mama deserved that one

  41. Adee on March 15th, 2008 at 11:08 am

The pickle the DNC has gotten the Dems into is quite breathtaking to behold–also fascinating to watch. The two tigers they have by the tail (not seating FL and MI primary delegates and the by now infamous super delegate fiasco) are not going along quietly. The natives are restless and rightly so.

Events are bearing out the notion that nothing gets an organization’s attention quite so well as the sound of a purse snapping shut. It would be interesting to have the history of how this absurd situation developed and who dun it.

  42. LizBV on March 15th, 2008 at 11:11 am

Due to my profession, I knew a couple who left a child in a vehicle which died. Alcohol, immaturity and piss poor parenting were involved. The young father was deeply remorseful and bore the guilt and burden. The young mother (who left the child in the car) went through the court mandated motions of remorse but behaved childishly and almost giddy most of the time.
Had I the power and influence, I would have had her tubes tied in addition to a long incarceration.

  45. Dave D on March 15th, 2008 at 11:24 am

#41 Adee, Who dun it? Mostly the Clintons, they didn’t care about FL and MI when they thought the B!t*h would have her Coronation to herself, but now they’ll use this to further destroy the Party until everyone else cries “UNCLE” and gives it to them. Remember, they’ll do ANYTHING to win the Nomination and try to fix it later, and they may just hand the Presidency to Mc Cain. If this were not about HER, she’d have quit after Osama started winning, which would good for the party but not for her.

  46. Rastus on March 15th, 2008 at 11:35 am

I still cannot get over the commentators and others who think the Dims are imploding and will do further damage to their party if the evil one steals the primary which everyone expects her to do. These are not Republicans - they have no guiding principles what so ever. As a loose collection of society’s misfits and greedy trial lawyers, they will support whoever they are told to support with the usual promise of better times ahead if they will just vote right one more time. No, this Dim primary makes great theatre, but the end result will have no lasting effect on the party. Hell, most of these people can’t remember where they were or who they were yesterday, much less several weeks after the convention.

  47. ShinerBlonde on March 15th, 2008 at 11:45 am

I did Denny’s and your normal site this AM and it was amazing how FEW illegals were there. Probably less than a dozen.

  52. american woman on March 15th, 2008 at 12:21 pm

Four Alarm, Happy Birthday……. and hope your tail serchin’ is a success……. but be careful for what you wish for.

DaveD….. it’s heartbreaking, the loss of the baby….and that poor family.

Today we worked 610-I-45 area…. and were not welcomed with open arms by those driving by. However, neighbors stopped and offered support, will join to work over there. One man tried to spit on us, but missed! hehe. One kid stopped in his pick-up and said “This truck is a 2008, I’m illegal and there’s nothing you can do about it.” I can push to get the laws on the books enforced.

The best sighting of the day, was a little white haired lady, probably at least 75 driving a shiney red, hard top, two seater…….. ah that will be me one day!

  53. american woman on March 15th, 2008 at 12:23 pm

  54. Dov on March 15th, 2008 at 12:29 pm

    AW

Not one protester. No signs. Nothing. There were 3 or 4 illegals at the Valero. Same across the street. Maybe a half a dozen scattered north on Stuebner. Which part of 45 were you on ? Northline side or Gulf Freeway side.

  55. bob42 on March 15th, 2008 at 12:31 pm

AW, I would have found ya’ll (probably) had I not slept until 10AM. I was up a bit late with the coffee roasting last night after my second attempt at a darker French Roast resulted in a raging inferno inside the roaster.

Being a libertarian, I had educated myself on the fire risks and was equipped with a halon fire extinguisher that choked the blaze without damaging the roaster. It took a couple of hours out of the roast effort, for cooling and cleaning, before my roasting education could continue.

I’m getting better at it though, and am currently sipping some medium roasted Panamanian that was formerly destined for AW’s percolator.

So… A few of the coffee lovers at church will get a treat tomorrow, and I’ll try again next weekend to get some fresh roasted beans to AW.

  56. american woman on March 15th, 2008 at 12:34 pm

#55 Bob, Your description of the ” inferno” and the action you took, sound very controlled and studied. I bet in truth, it would have made a very good flick for UTUBE! hehe Next week, being Easter weekend, we will not work. But, since the beans are late, I may have to start charging interest! hehe

  57. american woman on March 15th, 2008 at 12:35 pm

Dov, we were in front of Home depot…… Woodridge exit.

  58. LizBV on March 15th, 2008 at 12:41 pm

Wow Bob42 - I’m seriously impressed. Roasting various types of coffee beans to perfection is an art form very few will attempt (myself included). You MUST attend the next get together and bring new meaning to the name, “Brew Ha Ha.”

  59. american woman on March 15th, 2008 at 12:52 pm

Here’s Obama’s interview on Fox last night. “Obama the magic negro”( I did not coin that phrase, but a journalist and Rush) has the ability to not hear anything of that tenor in his church.

I see Obama dropped the preacher from his team

  61. american woman on March 15th, 2008 at 12:57 pm

Yes Dov, he did that yesterday, and now his selective hearing says he never heard any of that kind of preaching, or if he did, it was such a minute amount, he paid no attention……… Hopefully, this will sink him. I’m not buying it…… Rush won’t let go of it….. and the bloggers will dig and dig until there is film of him sitting there at church, taking it all in… wheeee it’s gonna be a fun ride till November.

  62. bob42 on March 15th, 2008 at 12:58 pm

AW, I’d forgotten that Easter was coming up so soon this year! A couple of additional weeks will earn another 1/4 lb in interest.

Liz, You are correct. One thing I’ve learned so far is that each variety of beans reacts differently during roasting. Getting the right roast involves sight, smell, and hearing. So next time I buy beans I’m getting a larger quantity of a single source so I can learn how they like to be roasted.

I’m determined to get better at though. I’ve roasted 19 small batches. Two we’re much lighter than I like, and one was too dark for the kind of bean it was (it didn’t pop like I expected it to.) But last nights attempt at a dark roasted Kenya-AA was by far the worst. Those poor beans were still glowing like charcoal as I dumped them on to the driveway.

Yes AW, I wish I’d had a camera rolling. The house was filled with smoke and the kids thought I was crazy (nothing new there!)

  63. american woman on March 15th, 2008 at 1:13 pm

Bob, we all have those stories to tell…… My funniest is of my neighbor. Her husband was a fireman, and thankfully at home. She had some grease on the stove, went outside, and simply forgot it. When she enters the house….. the flames are rushing up the stove, etc. She starts screaming. Her daughter runs to my house for me to call the fire dept, and her husband grabs his fireman’s gloves, takes the grease outside and dumps it. She got a kitchen remodel!

  64. Adee on March 15th, 2008 at 1:16 pm

#45 Dave D, It is just about everyone’s conclusion that the Clintonistas rigged things that now have them hoist on their own petard. Justice accomplished. I’m interested in knowing the gory details–who called whom first, how many accomplices and who were they, was Howard Dean complicit in the planning or merely a rubber stamp, what kind of sleight of hand was used to bamboozle the DNC members who were/are not in the Clinton camp, intrigue like that. Already the finger pointing has gotten just about lethal.
What an enjoyable passtime watching this play out.

Not that I don’t love flowers, mind you. Even in my hair - which just HAPPENS to be long and straight. But I have also always valued my brain cells far too much to ever risk fryin’ ‘em on a psycho-psyche-something-or-other mind warp.

shiner, the answer I was referring to was where AW was working today. If she was in my barrio I was gonna swing by and lend some moral support. I already knew who introduced the bill you posted. I also knew it would end up where all his other ones have. Leaders lead, gadflies just get swished away ;-)

  70. LizBV on March 15th, 2008 at 2:55 pm

Shiner, This is abnormal behavior for my dogs but it does happen when wrong energies are at play. I can sense it so I KNOW they can. Luv2 was right when he said, females fight to the death. Had to have one put down after chunks were torn out of her a few years ago. My hands and arms have been shredded more than once while trying to break up a fight, even though they would never hurt me purposefully. A low voltage cattle prod is a good idea if it will make the dog holding the other down in a deathly throat vice grip turn loose.
These are big dogs - the alpha is a female black shepherd and the others are chow/golden retriever mixes.
They are sore from this morning’s battle and sunning themselves while they rest, heal, regroup and reaffirm their ranks in the pack.

  73. LizBV on March 15th, 2008 at 3:53 pm

#72 AW - Your Sophie and my Swiffer (the tiny indoor dust mop dog) would make a good pair, but neither should be prodded. Swiffer is too stupid to know she is tiny. I can’t even gently spank her w/ a rolled up newspaper for fear her eyes will literally pop out.

Now that I have Eddie while kiddo is in Europe, she dominates him. Every evening when we all go out for the walk, all three on leash…… (yes it’s like one of those funny dog walking escapades), Sophie just gives Eddie he**…. I think she wants to be in the front, but he is a puppy, and keeps her little legs moving, and tries to keep in front of her. She snaps, growls and barks at him…… but he doesn’t pay any attention.

Late reply to No. 20: We can solve the immigration problem, or at least start to solve the problem, by shutting down the borders. You cannot do anything until you stop the flow. Catching them and sending them back won’t work because they just come back. As long as those countries south of the border are screwed up and corrupt, this is the only place for them to come. So, SHUT THE BORDERS!!!!!!!!

  77. american woman on March 15th, 2008 at 5:00 pm

Enforce the laws Robert, and close the borders. IF we would just enforce the laws in the books, we wouldn’t have half this problem. No sanctuary cities, no aide,, and enforce the laws.

Bored and don’t wanna clean the house. Use your scroll wheel if so inclined.

    The Story Of Swiffer

Rarely does any uninvited 2 or 4 legged critter survive beyond a few feet after venturing onto our property because of the other dogs. Rabbits, squirrels, possums, field mice and rats often meet their maker on these premises and humans can’t pass the gate.

One day, a large storm was brewing so I locked up the dogs. And during the storm I looked out the bedroom window and saw a tiny, black thing moving across the grass being pelted by rain. It did not resemble a dog or bird or rat or any other creature I had ever known. I went to it and on closer inspection determined it was a very tiny, very scared dog. It’s coat was matted with many days worth of burrs and how in the world it survived out here on its’ own w/ all the coyotes patrolling the area at night was a miracle.

She cleaned up purdy and was obviously a full blooded breed. She also had a scar that indicated she had given birth to a litter and it had been taken by c-section. I thought fo’ sho’ someone somewhere was missing her and sought her owner. No one claimed her.

That’s when I learned breeders use these kinds of dogs to produce litters for $$ and then dump them out here when they are no longer sources of income. (They also take the pups surgically.) So we kept her and named her Swiffer (after the dust mop).

Swiffer isn’t very bright as dogs go. But I don’t know what her former life was like. Being a momma dog in a puppy mill doesn’t exactly stimulate the brain. She’ll wake up, scamper across the house to find me and look at me as if to say, “Hello. Do I know you?” Every day is a new beginning and life for her and she’s grateful for a safe place to be.

So no Hammie, this one has already been used as a “Field Goal.” And puppy mill operators should be shot.

After work, I went to the meat market to hang out for over 1 1/2 hrs., catching up on their lives and helping out the old man. I was at 242 and 1488 when lo and behold, I saw some people putting up Ligon signs. I pulled over, went up to them and was wanting Ligon signs. Ya know how shy I am!!! It was Brett himself. We chit chatted and was a very nice man, with a great handshake. I got my signs, plus one is going in my little brother’s yard near The Woodlands tomorrow. Please don’t tell him. Either OBamBam Has heard speeches or sermons from this pastor and is lying about it or he is just that naive about what this pastor stands for after 20 years. Either way he is not fit to be President if he is that much of a LIAR or that NAIVE IMO.

My fear, by the time we can introduce ” change” by voting out those at the bottom, and slowly letting the best take over….. we won’t even recognize this country anymore. I think we are sliding down hill, gaining momentum, and the decline is unstoppable. There are no leaders. When we think we have found one, they cannot effect change. Gloom and Doom, oh ya…. hope, very little. I won’t give up……I’ll continue to write, call, fax, email….. protest……… all falling on deaf ears.

American Woman #103. England has a perculiar situation. Since Health is Nationalized (actually a two tiered system with private medicine being the top tier, of course) There are opportunities for methods of alterative medicine to be practiced along with the regular stuff. (money being scarce) Sometimes the Traditional wins and vice versa. It sometimes ends up being down to the lobbyists I suppose. …. Anyway, with that background, 20 weeks for abortion could be, in part, an effort to save money…… The Labour Government, under Gordon Brown, are in the process of changing lots of thing at present. (They are trying to get a Pledge of alligiance type thing going on; partly due to the immigration problems.) I expect though that part of the move to an earlier date for abortions is a way for those who are genuinely against it, to lessen the numbers. The use of the Mother’s Psychology as a reason is both clever and to he point. Have they said anything about Partial- birth, or adoptions? THanks for letting us know, I missed that one… As for planned parenthood, they would consider this, the ‘thin end of the wedge’.( incremental change; in the opposite direction than they want to go.)

Back to Obama….. I was shocked, but not surprised to hear Anderson Cooper being ‘uncomfortable’ being the messenger of the preacher Man’s troubles. I think it’s time this Candidate stops expecting ‘affirmative action’ in regard to his Run for President. A decent Black Man would, in my opinion, get much of the white vote. (Anybody else tired of being called a Clansman???) But as usual, the race card is being shown.

  109. pimlico on March 16th, 2008 at 8:52 am

One more thing: isn’t it or is it Racism for Black people to vote for Obama because of the color of his skin??? Once again racism is allowed by virtue of affirmative action….. I understand because of the History, that many blacks would want a black President to crystalize their feelings of ‘having arrived’ etc. I think it would be great too. Lets hope we find the right one. ( McCain’s looking better every Day.)

  110. american woman on March 16th, 2008 at 8:54 am

#108 Yes, I am sick of being called a racist. We have many black people qualified to hold the office of President. The problem with most of the ones I would pick, is they are considered sell outs by their own race. How absurd. The most heartening thing that happened yesterday, though I didn’t write about it, because I didn’t know how to word it, was…. we had two black men, at different times, stop to tell us how they support us, and that we all need to work together to stop illegal immigration. The us against ” them” is Americans against illegal immigration. No color involved. They will help at our next work day, hopefully.

Hammie told me a long time ago (before Obama entered the race) Obama’s church and this pastor thing would come up and be a problem. Since it didn’t surface the first year, I thought it may never. I’m following it closely but Fox is the only network constantly rehashing Wright’s 2003 sermon.
I’m struggling with the idea of just how much Obama knew, how closely tied to Wright’s convictions he was (or is) and why it’s coming out now. This might be a deal breaker.
    Time will tell…

    To All,

I have been quiet on “Preacher-Gate” so far. I feel uncomfortable discussing anyone’s religon save my own. (Lapsed Catholic if you are interested).

There have always been religous leaders who have been embarassesments if not dangers to their flocks. Remember Jim Jones! My own religon has had its share of problems.

Late in life, I have come to believe that a religon (and church by extension) is more than a minister, priest, or rabbi. Scandals have toppled many, yet the church or synagogue goes on.

It is more than a building or dwelling. We have seen fires and tornadoes destroy churches to the ground one day and see the congregation meeting in a parking lot.

I have come to the conclusion that a church is the people. It is their heart, goodness, and will that determine if that church will survive and thrive or wither on the vine.

I found the remarks made by Obama’s pastor to be unbecoming for a minister to make, although I can understand the sense of frustration that spawned the comments. There are far better ways to say the same thing.

I have yet to see anything in Obama’s public record to lead me to believe he feels the same way or condones the remarks made by his minister. Indeed, his time as editor of the Harvard Law Review would indicate he is open minded and listens to all quarters.

Can anyone offer proof to the contrary? This is probably a pointless exercise, since the number of likely Obama supporters on this blog must be pretty small despite the issue of Reverend Wright’s sermon.

I promise that I will not hold John McCain accountable for at least one of those TV Preachers that come out supporting McCain, despite the Anti-Catholic remarks made by the TV Preacher.
