One by-product of the economic slowdown in the US is that fewer dollars are being funneled into Mexico. Mexican banks say remittances of US dollars to our amigos’ coffers are down almost three percent from the first quarter of 2007.
Remittances are vital to Mexico’s economy, the country’s second-largest source of foreign income after oil exports. But the bank said it expects little or no growth in remittances by year’s end. In addition to the slowing U.S. economy, migration experts blame the drop on the U.S. crackdown on illegal immigration.
Uh-oh. I see another excuse brewing for not enforcing our immigration laws: We’re going to destroy Mexico.

As our los Angeles Mayor, The State Governor and all their faint-hearted disciples, would rather pander to the millions of illegal aliens squatting in the confines of the county, than allow the police and highway patrol to question their immigration status. Forget about the so-called advantages of Special Order 40. In truth its allowed heinous gangs to propagate, and kill innocent pedestrians who are not even involved in their cesspool of their activities. AW, Mexico has a real problem with it’s oil production coming down the pike. Production has been steadily declining and projections I’ve seen show that we haven’t seen the downward knee in the production curve yet. That is coming in under a decade at current rates. Mexico MUST invest some high tech in it’s tertiary recovery and new field discovery. They don’t have the technology. We do. Their constitution prohibits any foreign investment or ownership in any Mexican oil assets. We won’t do the job for free and they don’t have the hard currency to pay us. Something is going to have to give, and the American oil companies still haven’t forgotten the trillions in revenue that should have been theirs but was stolen by the Mexican government when the oilfields were nationalized back in the 1930’s. Count on some punitive bargaining going on real soon now…..

The big trick is to get Mexico to make concessions for investment without letting the Chinese get their foot in the door. That is the big fear in Washington.
AW, to clarify a bit for those who might not be intimately familiar with the oil biz.
From the moment you start an oil well flowing, production starts to decrease. think of it like a balloon full of air. as soon as you start letting the air out, the pressure in the balloon starts to go down. Most oil wells are pressurized either by water below the oil (water drive) or gas above the oil (gas drive) or some combination of the two. eventually the pressure from the reservoir is low enough that you have to start pumping to get the oil out. or you have to play with the cross section of the production tubing (like twisting the nozzle on your water hose to reduce flow but increase pressure) or you must start injecting something (CO2, water, nitrogen, etc.) to increase the drive energy. But to do that effectively you have to understand the geology and geometry of the formation very well. Also many of the new fields are offshore and take a lot of technology to bring online. also many of the fields are under large salt deposits which are opaque to most seismic equipment and it requires a lot of new siesmic imaging technology to look underneath the salt to see if there is oil or gas there.
And I believe the irony of the Chinese horning in on Mexican oil is they’ve gotten and get technology from us.
