Eddy Arnold, the smooth country crooner who is Billboard’s highest rated country singer of all time, died yesterday at the age of 89.
Arnold’s father died when he was 11, and he quit school to help run the poor family farm, which the family later lost. But Arnold went on to live the American dream. He recorded 100 albums, sold over 85 million records and, due to his significant real estate holdings, some joked he ”owns half of Nashville.”

He had an incredible voice. I even have a couple of his albums (inherited from my folks). I don’t know why I envisioned him as much older than 89. In fact, I didn’t realize that he was still alive (until yesterday). Happy trails, Eddy!

Rest in peace, Eddy.
Your song “Cattle Call” was one of my favorites.

Thanks Eddy for all the times you made the world go away.

My grandmother’s house was located on the edge of the fairgrounds where the Salt Grass Trailride each year still spends it’s second night on the trail.
Bright and early each morning the riders are awakened by a recording “Cattle Call” blaring at high decibel from loudspeakers.

#5 You are so right, have awakened to that “Cattle Call” more than a few times on the Salt Grass Trail Ride.
I had forgotten that was Eddie Arnold singing it, thanks for reminding me!
I always think of him when I hear “Make the World Go Away”. What a clean, clear voice he had, a classic for sure.

From my collection of some 180,00 tunes I present to LST aficionados a wee Bit-O-Arnold (1946)

My parents would not let me ride the Salt Grass back in the 60s. Said it was too wild. I did get to ride the Eagle Lake. Much more family oriented.

I envy you, Big 45Iron. My parents FED me Salt Grass in the 60’s.
Not many have ready access to Arnold’s tunes but if I can find your request for a particular tune amongst the madness that’s my life I’ll post a link for all you music shut-ins as tribute to Eddy who’s done gone made his last roundup.

I had an interesting back stage conversation with Eddy Arnold about 20 years ago. He said Ray Charles contacted him as a professional courtesy asking if Eddy would mind if Charles recorded a version of You Don’t Know Me. Eddy told him to go ahead. After Eddy Arnold heard it, he called Ray Charles and told him that he like Ray Charles version better than his own.

Eddy’s version is no slouch.

My favorite Eddie Arnold tune is ” Welcome To My World”. My dad loved Eddie Arnold, I always liked him too.

AW, that is my favorite tune of his also. But you were thinking of Wednesday’s 143 when you remembered that.

AW, Cheryl Johnson (hubba hubba) is better looking than any of the three buxom beauties - and a man would prefer to take Cheryl home to meet momma.

I’m also noting AW did not deny thinking of Wed 143 and Welcome To My World at the same time.

AW #19 - Memories, pressed between the pages of my?

luv2, It’s Cheryl Johnson - hubba hubba. She’s the Galveston County Tax Assessor/Collector. Paul Bettencourt’s counterpart (in job description only, lol). She’s a great friend of the conservative tax payer. She’s also easy on the eyes:
