    Mornin’ and Final Howdy, LSTers

I know, I know, and I’ll just assume that most don’t care and that’s fine. I thought seriously about sending thise to Matt to see if he’d post to start a thread (Geez, how pretentious would that have been), but it’s not worth the time and hassle.

I am actually sitting here with a knotted stomach, as if I’m writing some kind of resignation or suicide note–something–needless to say on my part, I have been thinking about this since last evening and all of this morning.

I got involved in a “discussion” yesterday here in the OC regarding the Gay marriage thing–for once I thought it was a discussion, and although differing opinions were espoused, the 2 or 3 of us were putting forth our beliefs and understandings for our own sides. No, we won’t/don’t fundamentally agree–that makes us human–and that’s what separates us from other forms of life on this planet–our ability to reason and discuss (sometimes quite heatedly) our viewpoints, beliefs and standing on any various subjects and issues.

Anyway, I thought we had a fair discussion, no one changed their minds, it was (or so I thought) an open and frank discussion on the merits and reasons for standing against or for the Strike-down of the gay marriage ban in California and the overall discussion of where we individually stand on the controversial issue.

In full disclosure, I started off my part with an off-handed (evidently, too shrouded in stealth) jest about gays using the wrong end of a gun, but then proceeded to explain, I just don’t want gays being able to use the term “marriage” because of it’s sacred definition of “a man & a woman” in tradition, law and over a 1000 years of history. I also, repeated that I felt they deserve some sort of legal avenue to as many rights and benefits as we “married”, just not using the term marriage, use “civil union or partnership”.

I also joined a few that made the likely point that if gays are able to use the term marriage, why wouldn’t other, less tradiotional and some objectionable, groups be allowed the same availability. I suppose it’s because of the last or maybe my whole point, and let’s face it, I am opinionated and adamant about several issues (Heavens forbid), but that’s what this blog is for isn’t it? To come discuss and generally disagree with one another on a host of political issues and subjects?

To the point finally, I understand now what the folks “over yonder”, as I call it, some call “across the hall”, some say, “next door”, say about the folks here in LST and how the name for OY came about–I’ve been doing that since last evening, shaking my head.

A person, someone I consider a friend now after sharing IMs and EM off blog, someone I respect and have concern for their opinion has labeled me a gay basher and “the stereotypical right-wing nut” for putting down my thoughts, not in here but OY, where, typically, we try to take everything with a HUGE grain of salt and use a little more frank language, shall we say, and well, most of you traverse there as well, so you know.

I guess where I’m at, and a lot will go back to “you’re too sensitive”, etc., but, I don’t care–the left prides itself on it’s “open-mindedness”–BS, they’re no more openminded than I am, and NO one has ever accused me of that sin; it’s no secret to any here how stubborn and rabidly conservative I am, as well as obtuse and too quick to anger I can be. Very well, that’s me, and I will tell you this, I’m probably all of those things and more, but yesterday, I was not gay bashing–the only time I used the term “faggot” was in referring to HAL for not allowing my youtube video to be posted (the one I have posted every Friday afternoon that I have been online and in the OC on Friday).

So, here’s the deal–I understand where OY came from, and I may go there again (probably will much to their sonsternation), I may not–my time here is done and that’s okay. I was asked to come back, but the magority have ignored me here since my retrun–folks that I thought had become friends either don’t adress me specifically, won’t respond directly or only reply obliquely to my posting . Fine, again, I was asked back for my “honesty” and input to discussion, but generally none really want it.

So Wahhh, Wahhhh, I’m going to leave and you can’t stop me–yeah, yeah I know, but I really feel like I’m losing something in the leaving, but it is what it is.

Everyone here knows of my recent troubles and issues, and some have been very supportive, some have been embarrassed to witness or hear my pleas, some (maybe most don’t care) that’s all good to and now, it will be better.

So bash those that think differently than you, don’t hold the same opinion, etc., but don’t ever say you have an open mind–no one in here does–we are all the same in that we wouldn’t come here if we didn’t think our opinion was better than anyone elses–that we come to see our words in print/on-line–that we are all selfish and pretentious *with the exception of the few*–we all come here to read ourselves and espouse our beliefs; at least be honest with yourselves and undersatnd we’re all the same, we just have different veiwpoints. They aren’t wrong (well, some may be), they’re just different.

Dammit, couldn’t even “singn” out correctly!

  13. BigJolly Says:

So, let me get this straight. You have a nice discussion, here on LST, where your opinions are not bashed. Then, you go to your other hangout and your “friend” calls you “a gay basher and “the stereotypical right-wing nut” for putting down my thoughts, not in here but OY”.

And that results in you bashing LST.

    Got it.

  15. KentBook Says:

    BJ,

Discussion was in here not there–was ended OY as the finality of discussion where we both were at the time. I’m sure it would’ve been over here if thread hadn’t died.

    Thanks for all, BJ.

besides, no tears will be shed

  16. BigJolly Says:

    Adios.

  17. Adee Says:

Good morning all. Another wonderful day to embrace beginning with 56 (yea) at 6. Sunrise hasn’t been visible at the horizon here for some time as movement north toward the Summer Solstice puts him behind lots of trees with thick foliage. This morning clouds above had pink streaks among their soft blue/gray blankets and a pinkish aura extending far to the edges of light sky. A beautiful and peaceful vision for the early riser gives a welcome escape from daily tribulations. Thank you, Lord.

Spouse’s coffee will have that special aroma in the cool again this morning, and hot chocolate will be the very thing for me. Indulgence here is appropriate. Meanwhile Mariposa has been greased lightning chasing her toys and occasionally pouncing on Berry and Val before they went outside, more like escaped her. Gotta find some way to bottle that energy.

Yesterday provided a real-life window into the cruelty/stupidity/laziness of some humans. In the grocery store parking lot near my car I found a box of 4 tiny kittens alongside the curb, abandoned with no mother, blanket, water, or food. They couldn’t be more tha 4 weeks old, barely had eyes open, hungry, cold, likely dehydrated.

I summoned an asistant manager, we brought the box just inside the store to get them out of the cold wind, and another staff lady called the humane society. One lady on her way out with groceries looked at the huddled orphans, picked one up and said she’d take it. We asked if she wanted a towel to wrap it in, she said no, I’m only going 2 blocks and it can ride in my lap. She just asked if the store carried nursing bottles for kittens (they do) and said she’d be back for some after she got kitty home. God bless her.

Another lady leaving the store saw, stopped, and said she’d get a blanket from her car to warm them. A few minutes later a staff lady who’d been involved in the rescue from the start happily came up with a shopping cart and said the blanket donor would take them home. Relief all the way around our little knot of concerned ladies as she put the box in the cart and went off to deliver them. God bless the adoptive lady.

Amazingly this upsetting scenario resolved in less than 15 minutes thanks to the kindness of several store staff ladies and shoppers. Kudos to the management and staff of the Randalls at Pecan Grove on FM 359.

KB: Don’t be toooo thin skinned from the reaction that you get from some on this blog. It is what it is… a blog where folks of many different backgrounds, ideals, religions, personal and political beliefs and ones with specifiic agendas do post their thoughts and positions.. some to “our” liking and some not so hot. Some use logic and reasoning. Some use common sense to get their point across and some use facts to back up their statements. Some don’t. Every once in a while we’ll get a few trolls stirring the pot and just out for a reaction from the readers. The very best way that most of us have found to react to those is to not respond at all and ignore them. If they don’t get a response, they eventually give up and move on. When we do respond, it just adds fuel to the fire. Then there are those who would argue with a brick wall just for the sake of arguing. Some have good/great motives/ some not so good. Some of us are full of spit and vinegar and just have a good time and try to lift each others spirits. Some times it’s fun and all in good taste. Sometimes it’s not. Try not to take those not so good times so personal.
We (I for one) enjoy your posts and your opinions. There are some of us that do care about our fellow man/woman. Sorry to see you go.

I don’t post much but after lurking here for a year + the one thing I have noticed is there is one big “in” club. (Remember those petty little groups in high school) and if you are not part of it you do not get much response. (Unless you come in here and put out some bate)
I have seen a person here that lives in her own “planet” and to say she tends to “stretch” a story is an understatement but since she is part of this group no one calls her on it.

Stick around and post away no matter who does or does not respond it’s always better to get different peoples views.

    Edd Was in Trouble

He forgot his wedding anniversary. His wife was really angry. She told him, “Tomorrow morning, I expect to find a gift in the driveway that goes from 0 to 200 in less than 10 seconds AND IT BETTER BE THERE!!”

The next morning Edd got up early and left for work. When his wife woke up, she looked out the window and sure enough there was a box gift-wrapped in the middle of the driveway. Confused, the wife put on her robe and ran out to the driveway, brought the box back in the house. She opened it and found a brand new bathroom scale.

Edd has been missing since Friday.

  30. BigJolly Says:

Yeah, I was trying to figure that one out myself.

I’m still a bit puzzled about a guy that gets into a civil discussion at one bar, wanders across the street to another bar, sees a patron from the first bar, gets into an argument with them and gets pasted, then gets mad at the first bar.

For what? Letting the patron wander across the street?

  31. BigJolly Says:

In hindsight, that comment was definitely front page discussion material. I say send it on to Matt, he’ll post it and get LST’s first Pulitzer, thus beating the Chron!

Hillary Rodham Clinton is for banning all guns in America.
At a recent rural elementary school meeting in north Florida she asked the kids audience for total quiet.
Then, in the silence, she started to slowly clap her hands, once every few seconds.
Holding the audience in total silence, she said into the microphone, “Every time I clap my hands, a child in America dies from gun violence.”
A young voice with a proud southern accent pierced the quiet,
“Well, stop clappin, ya stupid b$tch!”

I beleive you are seeing this happen on cop shows that are based in NYC such as Law and Order. I could be wrong, but I bleive cops have toturn in thier guns because it’s against the law in NYC to own and carry a handgun without a permit, or being a policeman on duty. But when suspended, so is the ability to carry a gun without a permit.

The SCOTUS ruling on the Washington DC handgun ban is going to have some very interesting consequences—-

Mark Steyn is, quite simply, one of the most brilliant men of our Generation:

    http://www.ocregister.com/articles/president-obama-words-2044703-bush-talking

Increasingly, the Western world has attitudes rather than policies. It’s one thing to talk as a means to an end. But these days, for most midlevel powers, talks arethe end, talks without end. Because that’s what civilized nations like doing – chit-chatting, shooting the breeze, having tea and crumpets, talking talking talking. Uncivilized nations like torturing dissidents, killing civilians, bombing villages, doing doing doing. It’s easier to get the doers to pass themselves off as talkers then to get the talkers to rouse themselves to do anything.

And, as the Iranians understand, talks provide a splendid cover for getting on with anything you want to do. If, say, you want to get on with your nuclear program relatively undisturbed, the easiest way to do it is to enter years of endless talks with the Europeans over said nuclear program. That’s why that Hamas honcho endorsed Obama: They know he’s their best shot at getting a European foreign minister installed as president of the United States.

    snip

This will be the fault line in the post-Bush war debate over the next few years. Are the political ambitions of the broader jihad totalitarian, genocidal, millenarian – in a word, nuts? Or are they negotiable? President Bush knows where he stands. Just before the words that Barack Obama took umbrage at, he said:

“There are good and decent people who cannot fathom the darkness in these men and try to explain away their words. It’s natural, but it is deadly wrong. As witnesses to evil in the past, we carry a solemn responsibility to take these words seriously.”

    As the man said:

Back from working sites this morning. We started on Long Point, where no loitering signs were posted. We set up our signs, the police came and moved them out. Later we went to Tanner, stopped 4 pick-ups. I will have news about the Steubner site soon. It looks like it will be really good news. But, can’t say much yet.

I did hear that the amnesty bill being shoved at us again allows as many farm workers to come in as needed to work the crops, but it doesn’t protect their wage. There is another bill that is in going through the ranks, that allows as many farm workers as needed to come in, but, they must be paid minimum wage, at least. We are for the second. Don’t ask me how we will get them to leave, once they quit picking, but with a minimum wage requirement, we won’t be flooded because farmers won’t hire tons.

Anyway, I have been asked to beg everyone to please contact the politicians to stop this attachment.

Sarge - The problem is that those of us with more of a military mind can see right through the “talkers” but the others still want to talk. Talking solves so darn much you know.

    Well;

According to the talkers, having been in the military renders you incapable of decent thought on the subject:

    http://hotair.com/archives/2008/05/17/harkin-fear-the-military/

Republican presidential candidate John McCain’s family background as the son and grandson of admirals has given him a worldview shaped by the military, “and he has a hard time thinking beyond that,” Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Ia., said Friday.
“I think he’s trapped in that,” Harkin said in a conference call with Iowa reporters. “Everything is looked at from his life experiences, from always having been in the military, and I think that can be pretty dangerous.”
Harkin said that “it’s one thing to have been drafted and served, but another thing when you come from generations of military people and that’s just how you’re steeped, how you’ve learned, how you’ve grown up.”

    Got that?

If you’ve were drafted, you’re excused. But if you volunteer for service, and ESPECIALLY if you come from a long line of people who have served in the military, your mind has become twisted. You are incapable of adhering to anything other than knee jerk blood thirsty war mongering thought.

You know, like George Washington, Dwight Eisenhower, Jack Kennedy, Douglas Macarthur, Norman Schwartzkopf, etc.

Morissey exposes the i herent hypocrasy in this particularly odious interpretation:

This comes, of course, from the same party whose Senate Intelligence chair suggested that military pilots have little human feeling. It precedes an effort by the New York Times tomorrow, along with some of McCain’s oh-so-courageous unnamed Senate colleagues, to suggest that McCain didn’t really experience Vietnam because his five-plus years as a POW kept him from learning all of the lessons John Kerry experienced in his three months in a Swift Boat. This also comes from the same party that celebrated Kerry’s military experience while denigrating George Bush’s National Guard service. According to Harkin today, Bush would be a better candidate — right?

And you read that right. Tomorrow’s New York Times is going to make the case that McCain is incapable of learning the lessons of Viet Nam because he spent five years in a POW camp being tortured to the extent that he can’t raise his arms above his shoulders, but John Kerry’s three months in country does.

Thank you for thinking of me. I admire and am deeply appreciative of the [legislator]’s work on behalf of Veterans. However, I have concerns about straight statistics and the twisting (the magic of bad statistics) that occurs when released (and used inappropriately as in the past.) By that I mean that data is used to promote political bashing rather than reflect a true and sincere attempt to analyze why and how [fill in the blank] is occurring — including how to “fix” the problem — if, in fact, there is a problem and if is fixable at all.

    It goes on from there.

This is for the coming bloodbath that some people believe is coming in November.

With nearly all precincts reporting, Prentiss County Chancery Clerk Childers held a 54 percent to 46 percent lead over Southaven Mayor Davis.

The seat was vacated by Republican Roger Wicker when he was appointed to fill the Senate seat that Republican Trent Lott vacated when he retired.

Wicker had held the seat since 1994, never winning re-election with less than 63 percent of the vote, the Washington Post reported.

The district, a Republican stronghold, had backed George Bush with 59 percent of the vote in 2000 and 62 percent in 2004.

Childers victory hands the Democrats their second special election victory in the South in less than two weeks. On May 3, Democratic State Rep. Donald Cazayoux Jr. defeated former Republican State Legislator Woody Jenkins in a Louisiana district that had been in GOP hands for 33 years.

  102. sargevining Says:

That is just about stupid. At the end of the day how do you think the democrat is going to vote and with whom? More conservative compared to what?

It all fits in with this logic, which I have repeated many times here (and have been accused of being a “Republicans good–Democrat bad” spokesman by doing so:

“If you want more Conservative Republicans to run, reform the Democrat Party by showing them that Conservatives win elections and Liberals lose them.”

I like it when Conservative Democrats win. the more of them that do, and the more Liberals that lose, the higher the chances will be that I’ll have a Conservative to vote for some election time.

So I base my vote on a comaprison between the two candidates I am offered, then voting for the most Conservative of the two—regardless of whther I completely agree with them, or that they are not my “dream candidate.”

Uisng that calculus, I’ll be voting Republican in November. In all of the races in my district, the most Conservative candidates happen to be Republican.

    I;ve said it before:

Give me a Conservative Democrat to vote for, and I will.

Wow…I must have really missed a lot of good ranting this week if people are leaving.

I’ve been more out than in because my granny is in the hospital. Looks like she’s going home today but will be having kyphoplasty to repair a compression fracture in her L2 vertebrae. She has Alzheimer’s as well so this whole hospital thing has been quite the challenge. Someone has to be with her at all times. She has pulled her IV out three times and her catheter out once and when she is awake she is constantly messing with everything and/or trying to get out of the bed. On the one hand she acts like the biggest drama queen you ever saw when they come to draw blood (she has no idea what they’re doing and just putting the little band around her arm she made it sound like they were killing her when I know good and well those bands don’t really hurt) and yet somehow she wants to pull out her IV and catheter and doesn’t make a noise! Going home will mean we won’t have to worry about those things but they will have to get a hospital bed and clear out a downstairs room for her. We are trying to move them (my grandparents & granny) to a house with more bedrooms downstairs but we’re having a hard time finding the right house for them.

Because my aunts had previously planned a vacation this weekend they were unavailable to help with Granny’s care while in the hospital (although I’m sure they didn’t have near as much fun knowing what was going on back home) so I’ve been pretty much the only one able to stay with Granny to give my grandmother a break.

So anyhow if I’m in the “in” group and got read sorry to bore you but I needed a rant. ;)

Can you tell us what lies were told to the American people that were known to be lies and werre intended to get us into a war?

    I like that HoustonDem

“Vote for us. We won’t punish any Presidenmts who get usninto wars based on lies because ti might energize thier base and the war zone will still be a mess.”

    fits right in with:

“We don’t think you should impeach a President who commits Perjury in Federal Court because everybody lies about sex.”

Vote Democrat: We don’t hold anybody accountable.

  142. houstondem Says:

137 - If Obama brings in Wright, Ayers or Rezko to serve in his cabinet or gives them cushy jobs in his administration…it will be a problem. Until that happens I am not going to worry about it too much.

  143. sargevining Says:

    Houdem:

Was Bush the first President to make those claims?

Or was he provided the exact same evidence that led a previous, Democrat President to come to exactly the same conclusions regarding Iraq’s WMD capability?

    And are these LIERS?

You’re going to have to prove that the President knew none of this was true when he made the claim.

    That’s what lies ARE.

What you have given us is a list of intelligence failures, not lies.

  144. houstondem Says:

142 - The difference is that the previous administration did not get us stuck in Iraq.

  145. Adee Says:

#116 Meglet, Bless you for helping out with your Ganny. Had a similar experience with my Mom’s nd broken hip repair in hospital and earlier her weekend in ICU waiting to have a failed pacemaker replaced. These happened when she had mentally deteriorated significantly–Alzheimer’s, who knows?–and it is so hard to absorb what her behavior had become.

Hope Liz’s experience and suggestions are helpful to your family. It is a most difficult situation to cope with.

  146. headshaker Says:

Regarding Ted Kennedy, it never ceases to amaze me how self-professed “Christians” put politics above their faith.

And there is no shortage of these types of people.

  147. Adee Says:

    Correction, delete the nd.

  148. FourAlarm Says:

And with people like Ted Kennedy, you wonder why I shake my fist?

142 - The difference is that the previous administration did not get us stuck in Iraq.

And that the previous Administration responded to Terrorists by using negotiation and Law Enforcement.

Which resulted in unanswered, and continually escalating Terrorist attacks dierctly on soverieng territory of the United States:

    New York City
    Air Force Barracks
    Two embassies
    Navy Destroyer
    The Twin Towers

Haw many atacks have been made on Sovereign US territory since 2001?

How many attacks on Americans have resulted in the perpetrators of those attacks coming up against Americans with the means and opportunity to kill them?

    Speaking of the war:

    http://hotair.com/archives/2008/05/17/operation-mosul-over-1000-captured/

Iraqi forces have detained more than 1,000 suspects in an offensive aimed at crushing al-Qaida in northern Iraq, the military commander of the operation said on Saturday.
Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki returned to Baghdad on Saturday after spending several days in the city of Mosul and surrounding Nineveh province to supervise the crackdown.
Many gunmen from Sunni Islamist al-Qaida have regrouped in Nineveh after being pushed out of other areas. The U.S. military said Mosul is al-Qaida’s last major urban stronghold in Iraq. …
Defense Ministry spokesman Major-General Mohammed al-Askari said scores of militants had already handed over their guns.

We have helped to create a Muslim Nation that operates a Democracy that fights Al Queda.

Was kind of the whole point of the War on Terror.

Not enhancing the prestige of terrorist supporters by having a President of the United States negotiate with them without pre-conditions.

Like: If you stop invaiding your neighbor to kill American Soldiers and disrupt thier Democracy, we can sit down and talk.

  150. headshaker Says:

Shaking your fist is one thing, wishing for someone to die is another (and it ain’t Christian at all).

    That’s all.

  151. sargevining Says:

Who here has wished for anybody to die?

  152. hamous Says:

You’re inventing an issue where none exists again, headshaker.

  153. sargevining Says:

    HouDem:

You provide us with evidence you say is enough to priove that the President lied to get us into a war.

Then, you claim the reason why the Democrat Party did not honor is Consitutional and moral responibilities to impeach a President who lied to get us into a war based on political considerations, rather than use the Impeachment, and the irrefutable proof of those lies to guarantee your election this year (you say that the lies are rteson enough to vote for you—how could proving them in an impeachment harm you?)

And we’re supposed to buy that?

At the minor risk of being perceived as a bit COLD……..kneemail is on the way to the Kennedy family - but NOT to Terrible Ted…..sorry folks that worthless excuse for a human has wasted enough of our precious oxygen.

    Enough said.

You’re inventing an issue where none exists again, headshaker.

Actually, I think that it’s a case where an expected occurence did not happen, so an effort is being made to claim that it did.

    you know;

Like claiming the President lied to get us into a war.

  156. sargevining Says:

Where is the wish to die there, Shakes?

  157. headshaker Says:

Oh, I expected the “usual suspects” to be DOTI™

It’s OK. I made my point.

    Long live hyprocisy!

  158. hamous Says:

And let me go ahead and get the next phase of this faux display of righteous indignation out of the way:

Why didn’t YOU as one of the Frontpagers say anything???

  159. hamous Says:

Oop, he beat me to it. You’re soooo predictable, dude.

  160. headshaker Says:

    Ditto!

    :)

  161. american woman Says:

#116 Meglet, I always enjoy reading you, but am so sorry to hear you are in this trying time. The disease is insidious because it takes the person you know and love, and kills that person, but leaves the body alive. You are among friends, and it’s good to get things off your chest…. rant on.

  162. sargevining Says:

You made no point at all.

You claimed somebody wished for somebody else to die.

You were asked to prove it.

    You didn’t.

    Because nobody did.

    Not even Katfish.

All he did was say he was going to pray for Ted’s family, but not Ted.

Mary Jo Kopechne was unavailable for comment.

  163. sargevining Says:

    BTW;

You wanna know why I think the Democrats didn’t impeach the President?

Because they knew that he didn;t lie to get us into the war and bringing a false prosecution against him would result in thier eing out of power for the next 50 years.

That makes a lot more sense than claiming that proving that he lied was going to cost them politically, so they chose not to—and then two years later go around claiming that he lied to get us into a war.

  164. american woman Says:

Sarge, to answer your question. We have plenty of time to prop up McCain. It’s important to let the GOP know how we feel. We have laughed here about the repetitive survey the RNC sends out with the same bullet points for us to check off, and a big space to donate. People were saying the same things we do. 1. Do you ever read that thing you send out. DO you read what I write to you when I send it back, with no money? Now is the time for the Republican party to understand how dire things are…….. and make a plan. Form some good ideas, stick to them, find a friggin leader and move on.

  165. american woman Says:

    Sarge:

Great point and I am glad you made it. I was going to. I suppose her folks are long gone also.

  166. sargevining Says:

Speaking of the Culture of Corruption:

Is William Jefferson running again this year?

  167. houstondem Says:

You have your definition of a lie and I have mine. And as far as impeachment goes look at what happened in 1998…it does no good. History is going to judge Bush as a succcess or a failure. And God is going to judge where Bush will go in his afterlife. Right now we just need solutions to get out of Iraq. I know your ilk like the dog-and-pony shows but personally I would rather have a democratic-controlled house, senate and whitehouse than go through silly impeachment proceedings.

I guess we are going to have to agree to disagree. You believe this war to be just and right. You believe this president has made no mistakes in conjunction with Iraq. You believe the 4000+ soldiers lost and the countless Iraqis lost is just the reality of war. You believe the 100’s of billions of dollars has been an efficient use of money and has made us safer. And well I don’t.

    Good luck in November.

  168. headshaker Says:

Oh, I get it. An “eye for an eye”, yeah that’s in The Bible.

I don’t recall Christ saying that in the Gospels though.

    Interesting™

  169. sargevining Says:

    AW:

It is not in Katfish’s purview to pray for, or forgive Ted Kennedy.

    That reckoning is coming.

He will be both judged and forgiven if he is truly repentant.

  170. bob42 Says:

Sarge, you asked Houstondem for facts supporting his/her arguments, received them promptly, and then ignored them.

The fact that the democrats didn’t have the guts to impeach Bush is sad & true, but pales in comparison to the lies George W. Bush & Co. repeated to the degree necessary to convince a frightened population represented by gutless politicians that invading Iraq was a necessary step in fighting terrorism.

If this were a real debate, I’d be tossing points to Houstondem.

Sadly, who moves into the White House in January depends on the republicans convincing voters that invading Iraq was a good idea when it was clearly a colossal mistake.

    Fat chance.

  171. sargevining Says:

You have your definition of a lie and I have mine. And as far as impeachment goes look at what happened in 1998…it does no good.

If your claims of a President were so easily proven as to be able to go to a website and read his statements, then the Deomcrats most certainly either shirked a Constitutional and Moral responsibility to inpeach him and thus insure the utter destruction of the Republican Party.

    Or

They knew (and still know) that it’s all hog wash and serves them better to make the claims in forums where the burden of proof is set at a very low threshold.

  172. hamous Says:

    But what about the revolution???

  173. sargevining Says:

Sadly, who moves into the White House in January depends on the republicans convincing voters that invading Iraq was a good idea when it was clearly a colossal mistake.

    Really?

How many Al Queda members were being killed and captured by Saddam Hussein?

  174. american woman Says:

Shakie if you think Ted Kennedy’s being a senator for 40 plus years, living a good life……enjoying it….. having power, then passing is an eye for an eye to a young woman, never married, never to experience anything…… I don’t see that. I don’t think Mr.Fish meant anymore or less than he said. I can’t speak for Mr.Fish, but am guessing he did not mean to start a brew-ha-ha….. but was just expressing strong emotion. I immediately thought of her parents when I heard the news. Wondering if they would feel it was finally over, but then realizing they are probably long dead.

  175. sargevining Says:

Sarge, you asked Houstondem for facts supporting his/her arguments, received them promptly, and then ignored them.

I asked him for proof of lies.

If you can show me where he provided that proof, I’ll concede the debate and vote for Obama.

  176. bob42 Says:

#175 We were told outright that our invasion of Iraq was necessary and would be of limited duration. The people that worked so hard to develop that as a popular perception are either hopelessly stupid, or lying.

I’m simply giving them the benefit of the doubt.

  177. Simple Simon Says:

    175, Sarge

I would pay real money to see you voting for Obama under any circumstances, if we could get past that pesky secret ballot thing. Forgive me if I sound a little pessimistic, but the only way I can envision such a scenario involves firearms in some fashion.

    /reality on

    Simple

  178. bob42 Says:

#172 Hamous, it’s not so much a revolution anymore. It’s more of an insurgency.
