    Ladies and Gentlemen,

I give you the final nail in CPS’ flimsy case to hold 430+ innocent children:

Court Rules Polygamist Sect Children Should Be Returned to Parents

Next, let us turn to the officials responsible for this travesty (Judge Whatsername, CPS folks, AG Greg Abbott, Governor Rick “Good Hair” Perry) and ensure that they disappear from public service.

Here’s Michelle Malkin for today……… I like her.

    http://michellemalkin.com/

myheadhurts, Let’s see how many law suits are filed against CPS and the state. Also, as I understand it, CPS can still have some control……. is that correct?
In our desire to solve all world problems, my neighbors and I decided last night, Social workers desiring to work in a CPS type organization should be required to have more years of education, and then are rewarded with much higher pay. If we start paying them a better salary, without more education, we will get some who are only doing it for the money. Now, IMHO the organization is burdened with administrators and the worker bees are underpaid, burned out individuals with too many cases to handle.

An interesting note from the Chronicle’s pathetic coverage (two stories, this one, and this one) of this story:

Roughly 430 are now in foster care after two births, numerous reclassifications of adult women initially held as minors and a handful of agreements allowing parents to keep custody while the Supreme Court considers the case.

Early in the illegal raid, they had said that, after a recount, they had 463 “children”. Let’s see - that’s a difference of 33. That’s just about the difference between CPS’ public statements about underage pregnancies and the 5 that the appeals court said actually existed…

  7. myheadhurts on May 30th, 2008 at 6:58 am

Lastly, the ACLU has weighed in:

Separately today, the ACLU of Texas filed a brief supporting the parents’ claim and raising concerns that parents were not given an opportunity to be considered individually in the chaotic two-day custody hearing that resulted in the children going to foster care.

They seem to have had their finger in the air for awhile, trying to determine which way the wind was going to blow before actually doing anything.

I’m sure that they would have assigned some real mean lawyers to this case, though, if they had only caught it in time…

What’s that? They issued their first release on May 2nd?

It was probably all that airline trouble that kept them away all month…

I thought this comment on Bainbridge’s article was particularly interesting:

For the record, I wore a black and white shemagh/keffiyeh through most of the dustier parts of Afghanistan while serving with the United States Army there. In fact, I think most of the soldiers who spent time in the field wore some variation of it and, yeah, they were almost all black and white because that’s what was sold in the bazaars. They’re not a political statement, but a common-sense response to a desert environment.

If Malkin had spent some time out in the field in Iraq rather than spending four days being spoon-fed good news, she probably would have seen a few soldiers wearing them there, too. I know my buddy who’s there right now does.

In fact, I still carry one with me whenever I spend a bunch of time outside or riding my motorcycle. The darn things are as useful as Arthur Dent’s towel.

More examples of Democrats “supporting the troops”:

Well, the purpose of the surge was to provide a secure space, a time for the political change to occur to accomplish the reconciliation. That didn’t happen. Whatever the military success, and progress that may have been made, the surge didn’t accomplish its goal. And some of the success of the surge is that the goodwill of the Iranians-they decided in Basra when the fighting would end, they negotiated that cessation of hostilities-the Iranians. — Nancy Pelosi

Most of us are fam, iliar with Rev. Jeremiah Wright, and what that Barack Obama spent 20 years sitting in Wright’s church not hearing the racist, Anti-American rants he’s now become famous ofr.

Fewer of us will be familiar with Rev Micheal Pfegler. He’s been a big time Obama supporter and was head of one of the churches that Obama “organized” for back in the good ol’ South Side Chicago poltical atmosphere that requires you get the approval of a pair of American Terrorists in order to be able to run for a seat in the Illinois Legislature.

Pfegler’s style is pretty close to Wright’s, and he’s famous in Chicago for it, and has praised Louis Farakhan. He preaches the same kind of Racial Hatred that writh does.

He recently got into some trouble because of some things he said about Hillary in one of his sermons ( http://hotair.com/archives/2008/05/29/pfleger-at-trinity-hillary-cried-after-iowa-because-of-white-entitlement/ ). Both Obama and Pfegler responded to the statements in a much different fashion that for Rev. Wright’s—both got on the same page and did it fast. Where Rev. Wright seemed to be combative to Obama, Pfegler seems downright subservietn.

    Anybody wonder why?

    I don’t:

    http://media.nationalreview.com/post/?q=MmQ0YzFjOTgzMTRmMWQ0YzQzNDBlM2JjZmViZDA1ZTQ=

Typical of Mr. Obama’s earmarks was a $100,000 grant for a youth center at a Catholic church run by the Rev. Michael Pfleger, a controversial priest who was one of the few South Side clergymen to back Mr. Obama against Mr. Rush.

Father Pfleger has long worked with South Side political leaders to reduce crime and improve the community. But he has drawn fire from some quarters for defending the Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan and inviting him to speak at his church. Father Pfleger, who did not return calls for comment, is one of the religious leaders whose “faith testimonials” Mr. Obama has posted on his presidential campaign Web site.

Obama also got a couple hundred thousand of your dollars sent to the Hospital one who’s board his wife Michelle sits.

John McCain has not ever put an earmark in any bill, and has pledged to veto any bill that has earmarks in it should he be elected President.

Good morning all. Took the sportscar test and it says I’m a Porsche 911. It kindly included a picture of same, which is handy since I had no idea what one looks like.

Delightful surprise at 6 this morning to find a cooler than expected daybreak (66). Thank you, Lord. The half inch rain day before yesterday worked its wonders overnight and turned the landscape a deeper green that only God’s rain can do. A brief light mist hung low, but now the Sun has chased it away though the dew is still heavy on the ground. No complaints about the additional moisture there.

It’s Friday, school’s out in many places, and we’re on the cusp of June already. Heat and hurricane season lurk. Summer will not be denied.

Nancy Pelosi says that we’re winning in Iraq due to Iranian Good Will.

Look what the Iranians are helping us do:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/05/29/AR2008052904116.html?nav=rss_world

Less than a year after his agency warned of new threats from a resurgent al-Qaeda, CIA Director Michael V. Hayden now portrays the terrorist movement as essentially defeated in Iraq and Saudi Arabia and on the defensive throughout much of the rest of the world, including in its presumed haven along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.

In a strikingly upbeat assessment, the CIA chief cited major gains against al-Qaeda’s allies in the Middle East and an increasingly successful campaign to destabilize the group’s core leadership.

While cautioning that al-Qaeda remains a serious threat, Hayden said Osama bin Laden is losing the battle for hearts and minds in the Islamic world and has largely forfeited his ability to exploit the Iraq war to recruit adherents.

    snip

The sense of shifting tides in the terrorism fight is shared by a number of terrorism experts, though some caution that it is too early to tell whether the gains are permanent. Some credit Hayden and other U.S. intelligence leaders for going on the offensive against al-Qaeda in the area along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, where the tempo of Predator strikes has dramatically increased from previous years. But analysts say the United States has caught some breaks in the past year, benefiting from improved conditions in Iraq, as well as strategic blunders by al-Qaeda that have cut into its support base.

    snip

A landmark study last August by the 16 U.S. intelligence agencies described the Afghanistan-Pakistan border area as a de facto al-Qaeda haven in which terrorist leaders were reorganizing for attacks against the West. But Hayden said counterterrorism successes extend even to that lawless region.

Barack Obama is highly critical of the Foreign Policy that has led to all this Iranian Goodwill that’s helping us win the Global War on Terror.

    Me?

I think it has nothing to do with the Iranians. I think our Soldiers have found the tactics that work, and so have our foreign policy people.

    I like winning.

The exerience of the past couple of years, the Democrats don’t.

They keep saying that we should stop doing what we’re doing that’s winning this war.

As a Roman Catholic, I sincerely apologize for the idiocy on display this past weekend at BObama’s church. No priest - no - no SELF-RESPECTING priest that I know would spew such hatred. Our church is filled with liberal do-gooders who lean so far to the left that their shirt sleeves are always dirty from dragging in the dirt, but I have NEVER heard anything like this in any mass, conference, class, or any other gathering in all my years. I was offended deeply by what I saw and heard, and on behalf of all reasonable Catholics, I apologize.

As another Catholic I’m embarassed to have someone like Pfleger representing the Church in this manner. I have NEVER heard anything even the slightest bit remotely close to what Pfleger spewed last Sunday at O’Bama’s “church” at any Church-sponsored event or an event that was associated with the Church in any way.

Last year, he was rebuked by Francis Cardinal George, the Archbishop of Chicago for his conduct at an anti-gun rally. This event was held in front of a local gun store, where he called for the store’s owner - by name - to be “snuffed”. He later claimed that he was not aware that the term “snuff” was a euphemism for “kill”.

Sounds like Mr. Pfleger needs to go to confession.

I always thought it had to do with the baby causing damage to the internal organs of the mother because he/she is not confined to the very muscular uterus.

Like you, this makes me question that assumtion, but according to the article, the obstetrician said it’s unheard of as the pregnancy usually miscarries.

  55. Rorschach on May 30th, 2008 at 9:49 am

Cajun, the placenta can be VERY invasive and it can have a hard time getting enough blood supply. There is severe risk of massive internal bleeding as well as the possibility that the fertilized ovum could be spontaneously aborted by the ovary and re-implant in the fallopian tube leading to ectopic pregnancy.

Nut jobs in Missouri have struck again.

A man, his girlfriend and her three children recently bought a house in Black Jack in north St. Louis County. But because Toi Pruitt and Joe Pulliam and the children don’t meet the town’s definition of a family, they couldn’t get an occupancy permit.

    Well Rorschach
The doofus to which you refer is sitting right here. Only because I am in a good mood, that is quickly fading, I will answer your question this way.

I have explained why Akismet filters certain words numerous times and you know that the filter exists. I am in no mood to play “moderate the moderator”. If you think it is necessary to make this some issue I would strongly suggest you do not.

I liked the Prowler too and always scratched my head at why they put a 6cyl in there. They still had the 360 or 318 that they could have used. Even the 4.7l would have been better than a 6 cyl.

I saw one at Baytown and wondered why the guy brought it there. He got smoked by everything that lined up against him. I think he was doing like a 16 sec 1/4 mile. It looked cool, but was a dog.

Squawk, I’m not trying to make a big deal out of it, nor am I trying to start a fight about it, it just strikes me as a rather benign word that is in common usage. It would not have ever occurred to me in a million years to include it in the tag list. I’m just asking if I am the only one here that feels similarly.

I could see it for new construction, where there are actual building codes in place and corresponding inspections, but not for existing houses.

Note this only applies to safety issues.

While I don’t think people should live together as a family without benefit of matrimony, it remains their own choice to do so. As long as it’s not illegal (and it is not at this point in time), then what’s the problem?

Why is the ACLU not on this like rust on a muffler? (to continue/merge with another set of comments)

  88. bob42 on May 30th, 2008 at 11:14 am

#85 It may seem rather un-libertarian of me, but I agree that there is benefit to be had from some amount state involvement in housing, such as permits, construction inspections, and certificates of occupancy.

In Black Jack MO, and many other communities, citizens must apply for permission to occupy a residence. The laws are seldom enforced these days but were once very successful in creating “Sundown Towns” that excluded non-whites.

In this case, the city is using those outdated laws to enforce precisely your opinion that parents should be married. I don’t necessarily disagree with that opinion, but obviously don’t think the government should force it to happen or infringe on important individual rights in an effort to encourage it.

I don’t like everything they do, but as long government is rife with authoritarian nut jobs, the ACLU is needed. I suspect they’ll be around for a very long time and will be paying Black Jack a visit.

I know you may have seen this one, but it’s still funny:

    Never Argue With A Woman

A couple goes on vacation to a fishing resort in northern Minnesota. The husband likes to fish at the crack of dawn. The wife likes to read. One morning the husband returns after several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap. Although not familiar with the lake, the wife decides to take the boat out. She motors out a short distance, anchors the boat and settles in to read her book.

Along comes a game warden in his boat. He pulls up alongside the woman and says, “Good morning, Ma’am. What are you doing?”

“Reading a book,” she replies, thinking it rather obvious.

“You’re in a restricted fishing area,” he informs her.

“I’m sorry, officer, but I’m not fishing, I’m reading.”

“Yes, but you have all the equipment. For all I know, you could start at any moment. I’ll have to take you in and write you up.”

“If you do that, I’ll have to charge you with sexual assault,” says the woman.

“But I haven’t touched you,” says the game warden.

“That’s true, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment.”

“Have a nice day, ma’am,” says the warden as he motors away.

Lovely Daughter had to walk several blocks late last night to get to her car. I was looking for pepper spray (ordered) and came across a handheld weapon that she could carry on her keychain. She worries me - when I showed it to her she got all excited and asked “Can I stab someone in the neck with that?” I said,”That’s what it’s for, honey!” and she gave a little happy hop.

I saw a news story on this recently. Yes, there are devices being developed that pull the hydrogen from the water and use it in addition to the fuel to enhance the mpg. The main drawback is that the computer that manages the car must be tweaked to recognize the extra power being added by the hydrogen.

  111. Dov on May 30th, 2008 at 2:34 pm

    tedtam

I think I’m gonna have to look into it as I drive a gas guzzling Suburban. Aha My motorcycle doesn’t use a computer.

  112. Rorschach on May 30th, 2008 at 2:35 pm

Tedtam, no the problem with those devices is that they use more energy breaking the oxygen-hydrogen bonds than you get back out when you burn it. you cannot get around the third law of thermodynamics.

  113. NativeAmerican on May 30th, 2008 at 2:42 pm

    #110 tedtam #112 rorschach
Hydrogen is not so much as a true fuel as it is a energy storage mechanism. True fuels occur in nature or can be manufactured with less energy input than is returned when they are consumed. The cheapest source of hydrogen now is crude oil via chemical processes in a refinery.

  114. Rorschach on May 30th, 2008 at 2:44 pm

#113, nope, entropy MUST INCREASE. you can never get more energy out than you put in. it simply cannot be done.

The salesperson comes to me, sad faced. ” I am so sorry, we cannot get that payment for you, but it will be $75 more. I ask what is my interest rate.
