I sent the oil info out with my “picture of the day”, along with an admonition to call/write and to remember this in November.

  2. Robert 1 on June 19th, 2008 at 8:12 am

Leave it to some Dimwit to propose it. This idea is wrong in so many ways. Some Dimwit just planted a “land mine” for the rest of the Dimwits to try to avoid. Let’s see how many “step on it” and back her retarded idea.

  3. TXAggie87 on June 19th, 2008 at 8:15 am

The refineries are already publicly owned . . . it’s called being an Investor. I buy stock in an refining company, such as Marathon or Valero, and I own a fractionalized portion of said company and their assets. Leave it to the damned politicians to screw up an already existing system. Dumb A$$e$ could break an anvil with a rubber mallet.

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse…

…please remeber the quotes words above come this November.

    ….shheessshhh….

Since when does government-owned mean we get more control over something? In most cases, just the opposite is true.

  6. Rastus on June 19th, 2008 at 8:23 am

News Flash - Dims propose socialist agenda.

  7. Katfish on June 19th, 2008 at 8:28 am

Gee why didn’t WE think of this?

Cmon yall yet another U.S. Postal svc except this one we’ll buy fuel from instead of lick stamps.

What could possibly go wrong with that?

    I appreciate their honesty.

Perhaps in 10 years the party name will honestly reflect their views: Democratic Socialist Party (like in europe).

  9. Cajun Maverick on June 19th, 2008 at 8:35 am

If the Republicans don’t run with this and take the Demmeroids to task, they deserve to lose. Every single Republican should get to a microphone and say what a terrible idea this is.

  10. Dov on June 19th, 2008 at 8:37 am

    First the oil.

Next the seven elevens, Krogers, Ford, GMC, on and on until even the landscape companies are run and owned by big brother.

As an aside, we got no mail delivery yesterday. That happens every so often. Your Postal Service at work–almost.

We lived through the hellish days of Jimmah Carter and gov’t managed allocation of gasoline that was the cause of shortages, not a shortage of product.
A blood-boiling picture seen locally then: full tanker trucks leaving the refineries, headed out to their assigned destinations while gas stations in their very shadows and along the route were out or severely restricted on what they could sell. Odd-even days to buy based on odd-even license plates; red flag-green flag indicators of gas available or unavailable. Long lines wasting gas waiting to make it to the pumps–an experience I do not want to repeat.

And Jimmah’s windfall profits tax reached all the way down to the landowner who leased the mineral rights. Windfall profits taxes taken out of their lease checks also, sometimes as little ast 5 cents.

A pox on the libs’ and Dems’ houses, especially on Rep. Hinchey’s. Trade New York to Quebec for the Western Provinces.

  13. hamous on June 19th, 2008 at 8:50 am

They (the Dems) have fallen under the spell of their Socialist Savior and have concluded (incorrectly, IMO) that America is ready for their coming out as Socialists. They’ve been hiding under the false pretense that they are “liberal” and “progressive”. Obama has emboldened them to let their hammer & sickle flags fly proudly. This is a good thing.

Glenn Beck’s July issue of Fusion magazine should break down the general political ideals of our Founding Fathers, today’s two presemptive presidential nominees, and Karl Marx. Any guesses which direction we’re headed towards will be revealed?

  16. Bolshevik Billy on June 19th, 2008 at 9:15 am

Gotta love Commies, is there anything they can’t do?

I can’t wait to make new friends while standing in line for my daily beet and toilet paper rations!

Not that I am for nationalizing corporations in any way shape or form, but, out of curiousity, who owns the untapped oil that sits under federal lands or waters?

  18. slash on June 19th, 2008 at 9:57 am

    I just threw up a little in my mouth . . .

Uh, have we been invaded by Aliens that look like us? I haven’t noticed any pods laying around, but . . .

Was it just me, or was those guys talking like putting a piston in your mouth and pulling the trigger was a GOOD idea? Has our gene pool gotten so shallow?

Maybe it is time to swallow da Glock.

I posted this same link yesterday and only got one response. It is DAYAAM scary! It wasn’t too many years ago that the Communists within the DemoncRATic party would have loved to say this out loud but knew that it would be suicide. Now they get on TV and brag about it. Have we sunk THAT far?
Has anyone EVERY heard of the Constitution? That piece of DemoncRAT toilet paper written about 130 years ago! My Daddy the WW II Vet is spinning in his grave, he gave 3 years of his life so these leaches could feed at the public trough and still my money come Tax time?
Beam me up Scotty, there is “NO” intelligent life down here!

Have you seen the pictures of Russian buildings?

Don’t have the link right now, but they are incredible! Windows not on level, stairways into walls, doors many feet above the street…

  21. semperloco on June 19th, 2008 at 10:04 am

#8 - you’re on the right track. Do a search for all the names of countries that have “Democratic” in them. One thing that concerns me greatly is the silence of the Republicrats, letting the Demagogues get away with this without protest! WHERE ARE OUR STATESMEN!!!

Haven’t we all heard the phrase, “God, guns, and guts built this country”? The lack of all three will allow these (unprintable description here) people to run over us, take our freedoms, and make any takeover by China irrelevant (for those fearing that).

  22. Dave D on June 19th, 2008 at 10:06 am

My #18 That would be Steal NOT Still. DANG DAMMIT!!

  23. slash on June 19th, 2008 at 10:09 am

DEMONcRAT. That would make a great t-shirt!

    19 tedtam,

That’s artistic expression, from starving, oppressed people.

  25. Darren10 on June 19th, 2008 at 10:53 am

Rep. Hinchey cited above as saying:

so that the people of the United States can determine how much of the product is refined and put out on the market

A simple statesman’s reply should be the American people already decide how much oil is refined by how much gasoline they purchase. If the American people purchase less; than less will be refined. If they purchase more, than more should be refined. It is government that under refines or over refines when they get involved in managing private companies.

But don’t expect Bush or McCain to get that deep into their rhetoric in support of more oil exploration.

  26. vlou on June 19th, 2008 at 11:05 am

The Dumbocrats are at it again…more government, more control over our lives. When will they ever learn - NEVER! Remember their slogan is tax and spend, spend, spend and socialism goes a long way. This is absoultely incredible that they would even suggest it.

  27. Rastus on June 19th, 2008 at 11:43 am

Is that Sen. McCain reaching across the aisle again?

  28. houstondem on June 19th, 2008 at 11:45 am

7 - The USPS is self-sufficient, efficient and still one of the best bargains in the world. But don’t let the facts get in the way of one of the most cliched conservative analogies.

  29. houstondem on June 19th, 2008 at 11:48 am

And until a TOP democrat proposes nationalizing anything related to the oil industry…I wouldn’t worry about it.

And no Maxine Waters and Maurice Hinchey do not qualify as top dems.

The USPS is self-sufficient, efficient and still one of the best bargains in the world. But don’t let the facts get in the way of one of the most cliched conservative analogies.

Oh, really. My wife recently mailed high school graduation announcements on behalf of my daughter. They went out two weeks before the ceremony. Two weeks after the ceremony, they had still not been received by our friends and family in Victoria, TX (I could have walked them there faster) Oxford, Mississippi and Fort Myers, FL. My father said he has sent mail from Fort Myers to Tampa on repeated occasions and it was never seen again. My wife has had to stop payment on checks because they were not received by the electric company a month after they were sent.

Anectdotal evidence? Sure. But at some point anectdotal evidence becomes a pattern.

In my business, I will not send ANY business correspondence by regular US mail - I’ve had too many folks tell me they never got it. I use fax, email and, if I need to have something actually physically delivered this year, FedEx. For other mail, I will send it certified, return receipt requested - not so much because I want proof that the other side received it, but I want proof (for the jackasses at the postal service) that USPS did, in fact, take possession of it before they lost it.

  31. houstondem on June 19th, 2008 at 12:21 pm

30 - And meanwhile I have never had a mail I sent out not be delivered on-time and to the correst place.

In fairness, UPS and FedEx have forced the USPS to become more efficient and provide better service.

  32. Darren10 on June 19th, 2008 at 12:29 pm

    #29;

And no Maxine Waters and Maurice Hinchey do not qualify as top dems.

Obama does. And he wants “a strong government hand is needed to assure that wealth is distributed more equitably”.

    Karl Marx lives. He LIIIIIIVES!!!!

The USPS is self-sufficient, efficient and still one of the best bargains in the world. But don’t let the facts get in the way of one of the most cliched conservative analogies.

Another fact. The USPS lost over $5 billion in 2007. That doesn’t sound very self-sufficient and efficient to me.

  34. houstondem on June 19th, 2008 at 12:56 pm

33 - You forget this little nugget - “the enactment of the PAEA added $6.8 billion in net additional expenses in fiscal 2007″

  35. hamous on June 19th, 2008 at 12:59 pm

Yup, to set up an escrow account to cover the years when they are in the red, which is most years.

  36. Shannon on June 19th, 2008 at 1:16 pm

The Republican leadership has a 20 year record of being too stupid to capitalize on such things.

It will be interesting to see if they can pull their heads out of the moist darkness long enough to do so in the next few months.

  37. Bolshevik Billy on June 19th, 2008 at 2:00 pm

They can’t even run a lunch counter, unless you count running it into the ground.

“the U.S. Senate’s network of restaurants has lost staggering amounts of money — more than $18 million since 1993, according to one report, and an estimated $2 million this year alone, according to another.”

The financial condition….has become so dire that, without a $250,000 subsidy from taxpayers, the Senate won’t make payroll next month.”

POWER TO THE PEOPLE! (and free a lunch!)

  38. Big45Iron on June 19th, 2008 at 4:03 pm

I recommend we enact a liberal depletion allowance tax. Charge all liberals $50,000 a year for being stupid. That should pay for most of their social programs and the harm they inflict on our economy.

  39. american woman on June 19th, 2008 at 4:19 pm

    A L.A.T for B S….. Big 45 you are on to something.

  40. dcgirl on June 19th, 2008 at 5:00 pm

30 - And meanwhile I have never had a mail I sent out not be delivered on-time and to the correst place.

How do you know all the mail you sent was received? Do you call people to make sure, or do you just pay bills and since you don’t receive a late notice that is your proof. What about Christmas cards - do you call all your recipients to make sure they arrived? I think you can get my point. And have you missed RECEIVING mail you were supposed to? And how do you know? I regularly do not receive mail at my residence. The only way I know that it is not received is either (a) it is a bill or (b) someone has sent an invitation that I haven’t responded to, so they call. What about all the others that I have no idea about - like thank you notes? Here I wonder if the person is simply rude or was it the post office at the level worst again? At my office we receive other’s mail EVERY DAY. AGAIN - EVERY DAY!!!!

  41. dcgirl on June 19th, 2008 at 5:07 pm

Europe has discovered that it doesn’t pay to “reallocate” wealth. After all, why work if you get the same money as those that do? If I have 50% of my earnings taken to cover those that decide not to work, what is my incentive to work? I could stay home and collect just as much? When enough people stay home, there is noone left to pay the bills. Dems/libs forget that it isn’t “government” money its OUR money.
