The editors of the Houston Chronicle, 6/17/08:
Heavily sponsored by the Soviet Union, Castro’s Cuba survived, and in some respects thrived, especially in the delivery of education and health care.
The editors of the Houston Chronicle, 7/19/08:
This rate is one of the baseline indicators of a society’s quality of life. But according to the report, American babies’ life expectancy is on par with those in Croatia, Estonia and Cuba.
Which is it, guys? Is Cuban health care something to admire, or something to slam the U.S. with?
Hey, let’s do both.

Remember it is the goal of any liberal rag like the Crummyicle to take any position that slams President Bush and his Administration even if it requires “flip/flopping”.

I have dial-up, but think it’s the right link. It shows how it really is over in Cuba. Complete with video. Sad, sad, sad. The people who documented this stuff could of been killed…..
I wonder if they’re counting all the aborted babies in the US figures…
I believe life in Cuba sucks, but I’m amazed how long the population has allowed themselves to be ruled by Castro’s iron fist. But then again, I was amazed how the Iraqi’s allowed themselves to ruled by Saddam Huissain; or Burma by those despots. Or North Korea by a psychopath.
Oop’s, better not use phychopath too liberally….. some believe one or two might traispe the halls of the White House….
The US reports stillborn and births that die immediately. Those countries listed, among others, do not report infant deaths if the infant dies before 24 hours.
I can’t help but wonder if a significant percentage of Cuban babies are born outside of the hospital system, and are therefore under the radar.
Chronicle “flip/flops”? Who’d a thunk it! I don’t think there’s anyone left down there that could find their way out of a paper bag even if the instructions were printed therein. Pity. Houston deserves and should demand better.
