WASHINGTON (AP) — Adding to their woes, mortgage finance giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are facing a federal grand jury investigation into their accounting practices.
The mortgage finance companies said Monday that a federal grand jury in New York is investigating accounting, disclosure and corporate governance issues at Washington-based Fannie and McLean, Va.-based Freddie.
Fannie and Freddie said they received subpoenas Friday from the U.S. Attorney’s office in Manhattan as well as requests from the Securities and Exchange Commission that they preserve documents.

All good and dandy…
…but will anyone ACTUALLY go to jail.
Not holding my breath.
I want to hear names. Institutions have no thoughts, feelings, actions. PEOPLE DO. No one subpoena’s a building. Republican’s take the gloves off and start naming names. If I won the lottery, I would pay for a spine replacement for all electeds.
I’d buy new ones with spines already installed.
Stealing from Fannie and Freddie took place years ago and the Justice Dept. knew about it. They did nothing then and will do nothing now. I doubt we wil see the people who really need to be charged with this crime named by the Justice Dept. or any other agency.

Never underestimate a wild-eyed Federal Prosecutor.
Once they commit the resources of the Federal Government, they really try hard for a conviction, even if the original charge was found to be baseless.
See Scooter Libby.
That’s what they need is a prosecutor like Patrick Fitzgerald to go after the guilty and that includes the members of Congress who have contributed and benefited from this corruption. There are people in Congress right now who need to be in prison breaking big rocks into gravel.
