Good evening, David. It will be a long night I predict, so I hope they have lots of coffee on hand.

Direct TV does not recognize Ch. 11.2 and can’t show it so it is back to the over the air set to tune in.

  2. The Dude on November 4th, 2008 at 6:26 pm

CBS? Aren’t you guys the ones that used to have that Dan Rather guy on every night? The one with the throbbing fake-but-accurate memo, right? I remember you guys now!

    /yeah… I know you can’t say that

  3. The Dude on November 4th, 2008 at 6:28 pm

I can’t watch live because I have a Cub Scout meeting to help run. But I’m DVRing you for later viewing. Look sharp Benzene and congrats on the gig.

  4. Adee on November 4th, 2008 at 6:45 pm

David, I have not heard or read anything about the Blue Dog Dems who got elected in 2006 because they were conservative leaning in conservative states. Where will they fit into an increased Dem majority, and can they be allies with the GOP to stop the excesses of the socialists run wild? They surely know they won’t be re-elected if they toe the leftist party line now.

  5. antifascist on November 4th, 2008 at 6:46 pm

You could admit that the GOP exists to “conserve” power for the established economic elite and to keep the working masses down.

That would be a breath of fresh air.

Check yourself for boogers and don’t slouch…

  6. Dov on November 4th, 2008 at 6:47 pm

    David

The only thing I want to hear you say is “Mack Won”

  7. jimb on November 4th, 2008 at 7:03 pm

I’m about to head home. I’m picking up subway for the family, beer for me, and watching a good DVD. I won’t be watching any political coverage tonight, and I won’t be on any blogs. Sorry, Benzene. Somebody call me when it is over.

  8. BigJolly on November 4th, 2008 at 7:10 pm

Damn, MSNBC has already called Pennsylvania for Obama. That was quick.

  9. David Benzion on November 4th, 2008 at 7:18 pm

David, I hope you ate a big bowl of beans, it will serve Ch. 11 right to stink up the studio after the hatchet job they did on Bentoncourt.

  13. BigJolly on November 4th, 2008 at 7:32 pm

OPS, I just ate a big bowl of chili w/beans. Big bowl.

Gonna hurt me in the morning.

CBS is now following MSNBC’s cue and calling PA for Obama.

  17. BigJolly on November 4th, 2008 at 7:42 pm

95% of black voters went with Obama in PA. Unreal.

And you didn’t expect it ?

  19. David Benzion on November 4th, 2008 at 7:45 pm

Gimmie your reactions to how the results are rolling in so far… how do you feel?

  20. vlou on November 4th, 2008 at 7:46 pm

I am taking my blood pressure medication before I retire for the evening. I spoke with a conservative anglo woman at a Chinese restaurant and she is saddened that so many of the younger voters (she has college age and older children) are going Democratic and for Obama. She said she thinks it is their way of rebelling against her and her husband. She says this is very disappointing and I told her she can’t do a thing about it except let them vote their conscience since they were of voting age. That’’s life.

  21. bob42 on November 4th, 2008 at 7:48 pm

    #19 I’m thirsty.

  22. BigJolly on November 4th, 2008 at 7:49 pm

Boss, I’m actually feeling pretty good. Looks like Texas is going to stay conservative, I was really worried about that. Not much we can do about the rest of the country.

  23. BigJolly on November 4th, 2008 at 7:50 pm

bobarchist42, you will note that I didn’t fall for your bet. ;-)

  24. David Benzion on November 4th, 2008 at 7:53 pm

Ed Emmett and Paul Bettencourt races are already tight… these are both individuals with strong Name ID and favorability ratings that transcend the “typical” Republican.

Not a good sign for the rest of the ballot, frankly.

  25. BigJolly on November 4th, 2008 at 7:56 pm

As I mentioned last week when I early voted, I fear for the Repubs in Harris County. I’m just glad that the state as a whole looks like it is staying red.

    Why aren’t those positions non-partisan?

  27. BigJolly on November 4th, 2008 at 7:58 pm

Now Bob Schieffer is dissing Palin.

  28. BigJolly on November 4th, 2008 at 8:05 pm

The HC early voting doesn’t look good for Repubs.

  29. BigJolly on November 4th, 2008 at 8:07 pm

LOL, Channel 2 has Orlando Sanchez on as their ‘conservative’ expert. Ridiculous, especially when paired against Eric Andell, who is kicking his ass.

  30. Dov on November 4th, 2008 at 8:08 pm

Personally I am watching the numbers and fear for our country.

Obama is not only taking the massive majority of the black vote he is sweeping the youth and younger voters. The RNC has lost not only this election but a complete generation of conservative voters.

It appears to me that the Democrats are going to sweep this entire election. I think that the democrats are about to be in a fool proof, philibuster proof majority and the American people are heading into 4 long years of higher taxes, bigger giveaways, and I only hope it only takes the next 4 years to prove to the people what has happened.

I also think we are about to see an Exodus of large corporations fleeing the country to avoid the taxes.

I may be wrong but I doubt it and am going to mix a drink and get ready for bed.

  31. Meglet on November 4th, 2008 at 8:10 pm

Just finished wrapping things up at precinct 070 in memorial and on my way to dinner with some of the LST gang. :) according to our numbers looks like McCain won handily in this precinct.

  32. bob42 on November 4th, 2008 at 8:12 pm

He he.. The anchors just wondered why they were “missing 2% of the vote” in the Cornyn/Noriega race.

  33. Adee on November 4th, 2008 at 8:21 pm

Don’t believe the numbers the MSM is throwing out/projecting. Lots of voting still going on out west that they would love to smother. Exit polls mean nothing because more Dems and Repubs are willing to talk to the pollsters so they’re unevenly weighted, and lots of folks gladly lie to the pollsters.

Florida panhandle polls are on Central time and have been closed for only an hour–all depending on how may are yet to vote if they were lined up at closing time. The MSM calling Florida for Gore in 2000 suppressed their vote before their polls had closed, and we all know what a mess ensued.

  34. BigJolly on November 4th, 2008 at 8:32 pm

CBS is calling OHIO for Obama. Gonna be a landslide of historic proportion.

  35. BigJolly on November 4th, 2008 at 8:37 pm

Good news, CBS just called it for Cornyn. As expected. ;-)

  36. BigJolly on November 4th, 2008 at 8:39 pm

More good news, MSNBC is calling Mitch McConnell the winner. Like him or not (I don’t) he is a Repub and will help block Obama’s leftist platform.

  37. BigJolly on November 4th, 2008 at 8:40 pm

    New Mexico goes Obama.

    Landslide.

  38. squawkbox on November 4th, 2008 at 8:43 pm

    Yawn

    Oh btw

So much for tossing the “conservative” base away to chase the elusive undecideds.

    Oh btw again.

Conservatism is dead huh? Anyone besides me notice how many “conservative” ideas Obama “promised? Ya know like tax cuts for instance. Now we know that is just BS on his part but there is more that he used. In fact every time McCain slipped into conservatism Obama trumped him.

Well anyway have a nice four years.

I imagine that there’ll be quite a few Reps who get religion. Hopefully, there’ll be a lot of new ones that we can build with.

I think the closest I can get to a plug is “What can you do but just shake your head.”

  44. Aggie_daddy68 on November 4th, 2008 at 9:07 pm

I just got home from a stint as a.J. in a “predominately democratic” precinct in Harris County.

    66% voter turnout.

2% of the party-line votes were Republican. Guess where that leaves us, boys and girls…

  45. BigJolly on November 4th, 2008 at 9:07 pm

WB, I think Repubs are going to be able to hold 43 seats in the Senate. Not good but not as bad as it could be.

Texas overall is looking good, Harris County aside.

All the bright, shining faces are about to get hit in their bright, shining faces with the wet towel of reality when they have a hard time finding a job. They will be among the first to discover that the US govt has been writing checks it can’t pay.

I heard a report on the radio that Pelosi wants to pass a $500 billion ($1/2 trillion) “stimulus” package. The best thing any of them could do at this point is to stop throwing money at the problem and let it settle on its own.

America has been overtaken. It will no longer a free nation. It will be governed by exteme liberalism. Capitalism will die. A sad, sad day. So many voted without knowing what they were voting for. Race was the main reason and to be a part of history making. The youth voted because it was cool and they could. I doubt they know or understand the issues at hand and their ignorance may lead us down a road of great regret. Now was not the time to throw away America based on race. It happened though.

  66. BigJolly on November 4th, 2008 at 9:34 pm

Actually who needs to get religion FIRST is the Republican electorate. Y’all done been duped with the old elect and forget lines. You know the lines, the time to change is during the primaries and all that junk. Y’all need to re-establish a direct connect to the elected officials….. including the demorats. They are your elected officials too. You gotta chip at the stone to even set the dynomite. Look what the democrats did this time.

Many of us worked our finger to the bone to bring Republicans into power, got all happy and went about our merry old way. The elected did what comes naturally when the bosses leave the scene.

Don’t get me worng, the corporate Republicans ain’t got no one to blame but themselves. They did not even give themselves an honest evaluation after the 2006 drubbing. So now the beating goes further. Their fall guy has already been cast in the form of Sarah Palin and GWB. So I doubt they will give themselves and honest evaluattion this time.

But hey I am just an obstinate @$$, what do I know anyway?

  73. wagonburner on November 4th, 2008 at 9:41 pm

Haircut on khou yapping about difference in strategies between McCain & TOWBWF. No mention of the money involved.

  74. hamous on November 4th, 2008 at 9:45 pm

Cheer up Sunshine. 2004 was said to be a “realigning election” for Republicans with two straight gains in the congress. In two short years they managed to screw the pooch and hand it all back to the Dems in 2006. The Democrats are now saying 2008 is a realigning election. There will be no excuses in 2010. Benzion’s VMG are a fickle, schizophrenic bunch. They won’t be feeling so hopey changey when unemployment and inflation are at 10% and they can’t afford to run their a/c because Barry has bankrupted the coal power generation industry.

  99. hamous on November 4th, 2008 at 10:18 pm

I’ve had this Ian Hunter song playing in my head all night. Couldn’t find a video for it. And no, I don’t think this is the death of our nation, but we sure are sickly:

I was having a drink with Prince Charles and the Queen
When Winston Churchill stepped into my dream
His head it was heavy, his voice was shakin’
He said, “Look what they’ve done - it’s the death of a Nation”

I followed his shadow right out of the bar
And we talked all night ‘neath the light of the stars
He said, “This used to be a cradle of civilization
Now look what they’ve done - it’s the death of a Nation”

Everything’s illusion now, nothing’s what it seems
Money isn’t everything, when you’re turning your back on a dream
I held you together when you were breakin’
You can pull down the flags- it’s the death of a Nation

Don’t say goodbye, don’t say goodbye,
‘N we’ll never die, no we’ll never die
Don’t say goodbye, don’t say goodbye,
‘N we’ll never die, no we will never die

Regrettably, it was John McCain’s race to lose, and he did. Numerous opportunities were handed to him on a silver platter, and he frittered them away until it was too late. Presume he keeps his seat in the Senate. And Alaska still has a super Governor whose career will continue to advance. At least the Senate hasn’t become a 60 seat prize for the Dems. Joe Lieberman will have to cross that aisle and vote with the Pubbies more often, as the Dems sure won’t want him now.

Yea, Pete Olson has beaten the usurper Lampson. Now to start the rebuilding of Reagan’s party in Texas. Need to get a true conservative Gov–not KBH, Rick Perry, or Dewhurst. How about Ted Poe? How about Paul Bettencourt taking Ted’s seat in Congress?

I’m reminded of an old joke…

What are the four scariest words in the English language?

    “I’se-uh Bee Yo’ President!”

Hey, it’s not mine; it was told to me by an old friend, who graduated from the Air Force Academy in the mid-90’s. I don’t know if he went career, but I sure hope he’s still in the USAF, because Obama is fixing to be his boss.

Adee let’s start the movement. ST and I have already talked to Poe once. Come with us next time. Bettencourt to take Poe’s seat? Doesn’t he have to live in that area?

Listening to the Obalama acceptance speech I have but one question. Does that man even understand what he is saying ? His silver tongue got him in office. NOW WHAT ?

Again I fear for our country and our children.

And I am almost afraid to go to sleep lest I awaken and find a new

Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.
    H. L. Mencken

I held a drink until I would hear Lincoln being mentioned by President-elect Barak Hussein Obama. I was not disappointed. Obama did not win. The neo-cons and their take-over of the GOP lost.

Now we are going to get it good and hard. Maybe, just maybe, eyes will be opened …

but I am a Christian. I know better.

PS: My lovely wife just, while laughing with a really good laugh, informed me that it was good that I inserted the “it” in “Now we are going to get it good and hard.”

I think I’ll fetch me “anotherer” drink. Feeling playfull.

PPS: No, I did not vote McCain either.

Bah give everyone four years to see all the hope and change Obama is bringing…mark my words if he is as bad as everyone thinks people will be flocking to the polls to vote for the Republicans next time.

So….Jared Woodfill has officially squandered the GOP’s tenure in Harris County government. Will we be receiving his long overdue resignation tomorrow?

“The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even in one term… There will be setbacks and false starts. There are many who won’t agree with every decision or policy I make as president. And we know the government can’t solve every problem.”

Uh, wait a minute, didn’t you promise the opposite of that the last two years? He didn’t waste two minutes before making excuses!
