Benzion live-blogs from KHOU
by David Benzion · 11/04/2008 6:15 pm6:14 PM
I am now at the KHOU newsdesk, having been screened by the liberal Mainstream Media gate-keepers, found to contain sufficiently defeatist attitudes, and tagged with a GPS tracking device so that my movements can be carefully tracked through-out the night.
Want me to say something on-air?
Probably won’t, but your best chance is to leave it in comments.
7:12 PM
Like a well-oiled machine.
7:17 PM
Woo Hoo. Did anyone see that?
7:38 PM
I just turned around to watch Doug Miller talk to Gerry Birnberg and Jared Woodfill… and realized that I was visible in the back of their shot, looking like a dumb-ass.
Sorry about that.
Have now turned around and am typing into computers, moving mouse, doing visibly “bloggy” things.
9:08 PM
The segment we were about to do has just been bumped.
THEY’RE SUPPRESSIN’ MY MESSAGE!
9:27 PM
Behold the power of the blogosphere!
They say we’re coming again in about 5 minutes.
We’ll see.
9:43 PM
OK, I think that went well. Was able to get my “all you can do is shake your head” line in.
I’m a giver.
10:00 PM
I’m told we’re coming up again… this might be on the “main” Channel 11.
10:08 PM
Not on main channel, maybe around 10:25
10:24 PM
John McCain is a class act.
11:16 PM
Congratulations to President-elect Obama.
He said he’ll work to be the President of those whose vote he did not get and whose support he has not yet earned.
I sincerely hope that’s true.
May God protect and guide him to wise counsel.
11:45 PM
Initial thoughts on the Obama victory speech.
Already he (necessarily, because he can’t possibly square the circle of his campaign promises) starts in with the weasel-words.
“The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even in one term… There will be setbacks and false starts. There are many who won’t agree with every decision or policy I make as president. And we know the government can’t solve every problem.”
Translation–any time President Obama fails or can’t deliver or betrays a constituency or fumbles, we warned you.
This is another iteration of his campaign tactic of flipping on an issue and then explaining that you were just too dense to understand what he initially thought.
Clever, no doubt. We’ll see how long folks are willing to accept excuses.
While the Democratic Party has won a great victory tonight, we do so with a measure of humility and determination to heal the divides that have held back our progress.
As Lincoln said to a nation far more divided than ours, we are not enemies but friends. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection.
And to those Americans whose support I have yet to earn, I may not have won your vote tonight, but I hear your voices. I need your help. And I will be your president, too.
I truly hope so.
‘Cause the eyes of the liberals I see on TV are looking pretty hungry for a revenge they think is long and well-deserved.
12:13 AM
We’re done for the night here; thanks to all for tuning in, please continue the conversation in comments.
Hunker down; I fear the obnoxious ecstacy of Obamaniacs tomorrow is going to be Ike-like.

Good evening, David. It will be a long night I predict, so I hope they have lots of coffee on hand.
Direct TV does not recognize Ch. 11.2 and can’t show it so it is back to the over the air set to tune in.
CBS? Aren’t you guys the ones that used to have that Dan Rather guy on every night? The one with the throbbing fake-but-accurate memo, right? I remember you guys now!
/yeah… I know you can’t say that
I can’t watch live because I have a Cub Scout meeting to help run. But I’m DVRing you for later viewing. Look sharp Benzene and congrats on the gig.
David, I have not heard or read anything about the Blue Dog Dems who got elected in 2006 because they were conservative leaning in conservative states. Where will they fit into an increased Dem majority, and can they be allies with the GOP to stop the excesses of the socialists run wild? They surely know they won’t be re-elected if they toe the leftist party line now.
You could admit that the GOP exists to “conserve” power for the established economic elite and to keep the working masses down.
That would be a breath of fresh air.
Check yourself for boogers and don’t slouch…
David
The only thing I want to hear you say is “Mack Won”
I’m about to head home. I’m picking up subway for the family, beer for me, and watching a good DVD. I won’t be watching any political coverage tonight, and I won’t be on any blogs. Sorry, Benzene. Somebody call me when it is over.
Damn, MSNBC has already called Pennsylvania for Obama. That was quick.
I’m about to be on.
No wonder DB didn’t take me up on the wager.
DB - conGRATS on your opportunity tonight!
I cannot watch Ms Perky without alcohol………bb inna bit
David, I hope you ate a big bowl of beans, it will serve Ch. 11 right to stink up the studio after the hatchet job they did on Bentoncourt.
OPS, I just ate a big bowl of chili w/beans. Big bowl.
Gonna hurt me in the morning.
Tug on your ear like Carol Burnett and I’ll wink back at you.
The Rockets play Boston at 7:30pm
CBS is now following MSNBC’s cue and calling PA for Obama.
95% of black voters went with Obama in PA. Unreal.
# 17
And you didn’t expect it ?
Gimmie your reactions to how the results are rolling in so far… how do you feel?
I am taking my blood pressure medication before I retire for the evening. I spoke with a conservative anglo woman at a Chinese restaurant and she is saddened that so many of the younger voters (she has college age and older children) are going Democratic and for Obama. She said she thinks it is their way of rebelling against her and her husband. She says this is very disappointing and I told her she can’t do a thing about it except let them vote their conscience since they were of voting age. That’’s life.
#19 I’m thirsty.
Boss, I’m actually feeling pretty good. Looks like Texas is going to stay conservative, I was really worried about that. Not much we can do about the rest of the country.
bobarchist42, you will note that I didn’t fall for your bet.
Ed Emmett and Paul Bettencourt races are already tight… these are both individuals with strong Name ID and favorability ratings that transcend the “typical” Republican.
Not a good sign for the rest of the ballot, frankly.
As I mentioned last week when I early voted, I fear for the Repubs in Harris County. I’m just glad that the state as a whole looks like it is staying red.
#24 db
Why aren’t those positions non-partisan?
Now Bob Schieffer is dissing Palin.
The HC early voting doesn’t look good for Repubs.
http://www.election.co.harris.tx.us/Cumulative/cumulative.htm
LOL, Channel 2 has Orlando Sanchez on as their ‘conservative’ expert. Ridiculous, especially when paired against Eric Andell, who is kicking his ass.
Personally I am watching the numbers and fear for our country.
Obama is not only taking the massive majority of the black vote he is sweeping the youth and younger voters. The RNC has lost not only this election but a complete generation of conservative voters.
It appears to me that the Democrats are going to sweep this entire election. I think that the democrats are about to be in a fool proof, philibuster proof majority and the American people are heading into 4 long years of higher taxes, bigger giveaways, and I only hope it only takes the next 4 years to prove to the people what has happened.
I also think we are about to see an Exodus of large corporations fleeing the country to avoid the taxes.
I may be wrong but I doubt it and am going to mix a drink and get ready for bed.
Just finished wrapping things up at precinct 070 in memorial and on my way to dinner with some of the LST gang.
according to our numbers looks like McCain won handily in this precinct.
He he.. The anchors just wondered why they were “missing 2% of the vote” in the Cornyn/Noriega race.
Don’t believe the numbers the MSM is throwing out/projecting. Lots of voting still going on out west that they would love to smother. Exit polls mean nothing because more Dems and Repubs are willing to talk to the pollsters so they’re unevenly weighted, and lots of folks gladly lie to the pollsters.
Florida panhandle polls are on Central time and have been closed for only an hour–all depending on how may are yet to vote if they were lined up at closing time. The MSM calling Florida for Gore in 2000 suppressed their vote before their polls had closed, and we all know what a mess ensued.
CBS is calling OHIO for Obama. Gonna be a landslide of historic proportion.
Good news, CBS just called it for Cornyn. As expected.
More good news, MSNBC is calling Mitch McConnell the winner. Like him or not (I don’t) he is a Repub and will help block Obama’s leftist platform.
New Mexico goes Obama.
Landslide.
Yawn
Oh btw
So much for tossing the “conservative” base away to chase the elusive undecideds.
Oh btw again.
Conservatism is dead huh? Anyone besides me notice how many “conservative” ideas Obama “promised? Ya know like tax cuts for instance. Now we know that is just BS on his part but there is more that he used. In fact every time McCain slipped into conservatism Obama trumped him.
Well anyway have a nice four years.
Please wake me up when the EV count exceeds 300.
Well, there’s not much left to say, is there?
DB, you might as well give me a plug while you’re on TV
I’ll buy DB a brew if he if he can say “Two gay bears and a homeowners association” on KHOU.
#36 bigj
All we can really hope for is 41 Senate seats to at least be able to put some brakes on this disaster in the making.
#38 squawk
I imagine that there’ll be quite a few Reps who get religion. Hopefully, there’ll be a lot of new ones that we can build with.
We’re about to go on again after 9pm.
I think the closest I can get to a plug is “What can you do but just shake your head.”
I just got home from a stint as a.J. in a “predominately democratic” precinct in Harris County.
66% voter turnout.
2% of the party-line votes were Republican. Guess where that leaves us, boys and girls…
WB, I think Repubs are going to be able to hold 43 seats in the Senate. Not good but not as bad as it could be.
Texas overall is looking good, Harris County aside.

All the bright, shining faces are about to get hit in their bright, shining faces with the wet towel of reality when they have a hard time finding a job. They will be among the first to discover that the US govt has been writing checks it can’t pay.
I heard a report on the radio that Pelosi wants to pass a $500 billion ($1/2 trillion) “stimulus” package. The best thing any of them could do at this point is to stop throwing money at the problem and let it settle on its own.
“What can you do but just shake your head at two gay bears and a homeowners association”
Come on! you can do it!
OK,…I’ll bite where was Benzine? I’ve clicked back and fourth all night and he’s not been on?!?! Am I missing something?
#43 db
When you gonna curl up in the corner, cry, and start sucking your thumb?
I just want to know how so many people in our country can be so incredibly stupid as to elect this man to the Presidency.
And the dance-floor on the Titanic is barely an inch deep in water, really.
#50 astro
He’s so dreamy….
Can we secede yet?
Y’all might be looking fairly good down there in Texas, but up here in Colorado it is BAD. Ugh.
Oh well.
Boss, don’t be such a defeatist! Texas is still red, the US Senate is not controlled by 60+ Dems.
We will live to fight another day.
Al Franken???
Time to start planning a comeback. (think like a democrat, anything goes)
Bettencourt is barely hanging on. Doesn’t look good.
2%? Sounds like the standard libertarian support level. Musta went to the hand puppet.
Good news for my ‘hood, Mike Jackson and John Davis are cruising in the early totals.
Culberson is closer than he should be, but looks like he’ll make it.
CBS is calling Murtha a winner.
Those idiots in Pennsylvania reelected that jackass Murtha.
Okay, I’m officially tired of remote shots from Howard University and Ebonezzer Church.
America has been overtaken. It will no longer a free nation. It will be governed by exteme liberalism. Capitalism will die. A sad, sad day. So many voted without knowing what they were voting for. Race was the main reason and to be a part of history making. The youth voted because it was cool and they could. I doubt they know or understand the issues at hand and their ignorance may lead us down a road of great regret. Now was not the time to throw away America based on race. It happened though.
KHOU has Culberson with a comfortable lead.
My barrio is split between Queen Sheila and Mean Gene Green. They always cruise. At the state level Mario Gallegos and Jessica Farrar always skate in. I’ve been Too Long in the Wasteland.
Looks like Dems will win the DA and Sheriff’s race in HC. No big loss for Repubs there, Lykos is a loser and Thompson always relied on the party apparatus to win.
Too bad Cornyn’s gonna win. I guess he didn’t get the message.

I’ve been told we’re next

Actually who needs to get religion FIRST is the Republican electorate. Y’all done been duped with the old elect and forget lines. You know the lines, the time to change is during the primaries and all that junk. Y’all need to re-establish a direct connect to the elected officials….. including the demorats. They are your elected officials too. You gotta chip at the stone to even set the dynomite. Look what the democrats did this time.
Many of us worked our finger to the bone to bring Republicans into power, got all happy and went about our merry old way. The elected did what comes naturally when the bosses leave the scene.
Don’t get me worng, the corporate Republicans ain’t got no one to blame but themselves. They did not even give themselves an honest evaluation after the 2006 drubbing. So now the beating goes further. Their fall guy has already been cast in the form of Sarah Palin and GWB. So I doubt they will give themselves and honest evaluattion this time.
But hey I am just an obstinate @$$, what do I know anyway?
Haircut on khou yapping about difference in strategies between McCain & TOWBWF. No mention of the money involved.
Cheer up Sunshine. 2004 was said to be a “realigning election” for Republicans with two straight gains in the congress. In two short years they managed to screw the pooch and hand it all back to the Dems in 2006. The Democrats are now saying 2008 is a realigning election. There will be no excuses in 2010. Benzion’s VMG are a fickle, schizophrenic bunch. They won’t be feeling so hopey changey when unemployment and inflation are at 10% and they can’t afford to run their a/c because Barry has bankrupted the coal power generation industry.
“I’m sure hoping I can be the chairman of the space committee next year.” -Nick Lampson
The only space Nick has to worry about is cleaning out his office space in the Cannon building.
Benzene you looked stiff but did good. AND Benzion gives kudos to Headshaker by talking about shaking his head lol.
#74 hamous
Well, they say karma is a cruel, harsh, mistress. All the hopey-changers are about to learn all about that when they start getting brownouts and their electric bills are more than their rent/mortgage.
I was just on.
Is ANYONE able to see this stuff?
#76 smack
Did he say anything about gay bears and neighborhood associations?
#78 db
All I’ve seen is the insufferable Kutie Kouric.
Headshaker and I have a cross-promotional product-placement agreement
Are you recording it so we can laugh at you later?
I watched him on channel 310 on cable. He did good. Talked about shaking his head.
Boss, I’ve suffered through Katie all night and NO, I didn’t just see you. In fact, I haven’t seen you yet!
Ain’t seen no Benzion in Cut-N-Shoot. Just Kinky Katie and her boring arsed droning voice.
BTW I am watching on Dish network.
I’ve been watching the online stream here.
But seriously folks…

#85 squawk
She’s approaching record levels of smug, though.
Is he selling Gay Bears now?
#77 wagonburner - in four years you will be hard pressed to find 40% who say they voted for Barry tonight.
#91 hamous
Why? Will it be too dark?
LMAO! I’m famous!
I guess it’s time to announce our 2 new bears - the Obama Bear and the Benzion Bear. They come packed 69 to a master carton.
#91 We may not have the right to vote in four years. Scarey thought huh?
ok, I’ve finally got the right codecs installed so I can watch video at bob42’s secret libertarian link.
When’s the boss gonna be on again?
calling “murtha a winner” is a oxymoronic sentence in a politcal sense
At least Lampson’s getting fired. His ads just reemphasized what a toad he is.
Way to go boss. You managed to stifle the sobs.
btw - Why is a reporter from a CBS affiliate talking about MSNBC’s projections?
I’ve had this Ian Hunter song playing in my head all night. Couldn’t find a video for it. And no, I don’t think this is the death of our nation, but we sure are sickly:
I was having a drink with Prince Charles and the Queen
When Winston Churchill stepped into my dream
His head it was heavy, his voice was shakin’
He said, “Look what they’ve done - it’s the death of a Nation”
I followed his shadow right out of the bar
And we talked all night ‘neath the light of the stars
He said, “This used to be a cradle of civilization
Now look what they’ve done - it’s the death of a Nation”
Everything’s illusion now, nothing’s what it seems
Money isn’t everything, when you’re turning your back on a dream
I held you together when you were breakin’
You can pull down the flags- it’s the death of a Nation
Don’t say goodbye, don’t say goodbye,
‘N we’ll never die, no we’ll never die
Don’t say goodbye, don’t say goodbye,
‘N we’ll never die, no we will never die
Forget Florida! Check out this Church Sign.
The bad news is that TOWBWF and a bunch of bolshie Dems won. The good news is that politicians rarely accomplish most of what they promise. We can only hope that trend continues.
How many more crying crowds can they dig up tonight?
Is Jesse Jackson crying because he’s happy or because he’s not the one that got elected?
Now he’ll never get to cut Obama’s nuts off.
As of 9:14:
Bentencourt = 50.44%
Trautman=47.50%
Source.
Anybody have a list of all the promises Obama has made? We need to keep track of them and remind him when he falters. Maybe we will also learn how he is going to implement all those promises.
McCain lost. He is giving his speech now wishing Obama well.
Ted Poe won with almost 90% of the vote. KHOU isn’t even bothering to show that race. I wonder why?
Matt
Oh I dunno.
#106 dude
He was unopposed (other than the Libertarian).
#108 What??? You mean 90+ % of the voters are idiot duopolists?
Pretty much.
Actually, isn’t that true of just about every election in this country?
99 Hamous
I dunno - I’ve had THIS song running through MY head.

David, all I saw was the back of your head! A few of us women from LST, got together to eat and discuss. A young lady of the group worked one of the polls, had an uncomfortable situation with a judge, so we met for dinner and to make sure she made it home ok. We watched the states turn colors from the Cadillac Bar, and no we didn’t drown our sorrow.
Regrettably, it was John McCain’s race to lose, and he did. Numerous opportunities were handed to him on a silver platter, and he frittered them away until it was too late. Presume he keeps his seat in the Senate. And Alaska still has a super Governor whose career will continue to advance. At least the Senate hasn’t become a 60 seat prize for the Dems. Joe Lieberman will have to cross that aisle and vote with the Pubbies more often, as the Dems sure won’t want him now.
Yea, Pete Olson has beaten the usurper Lampson. Now to start the rebuilding of Reagan’s party in Texas. Need to get a true conservative Gov–not KBH, Rick Perry, or Dewhurst. How about Ted Poe? How about Paul Bettencourt taking Ted’s seat in Congress?
I’m reminded of an old joke…
What are the four scariest words in the English language?
…
“I’se-uh Bee Yo’ President!”
Hey, it’s not mine; it was told to me by an old friend, who graduated from the Air Force Academy in the mid-90’s. I don’t know if he went career, but I sure hope he’s still in the USAF, because Obama is fixing to be his boss.
Adee let’s start the movement. ST and I have already talked to Poe once. Come with us next time. Bettencourt to take Poe’s seat? Doesn’t he have to live in that area?
Listening to the Obalama acceptance speech I have but one question. Does that man even understand what he is saying ? His silver tongue got him in office. NOW WHAT ?
Again I fear for our country and our children.
And I am almost afraid to go to sleep lest I awaken and find a new

Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.

I held a drink until I would hear Lincoln being mentioned by President-elect Barak Hussein Obama. I was not disappointed. Obama did not win. The neo-cons and their take-over of the GOP lost.
Now we are going to get it good and hard. Maybe, just maybe, eyes will be opened …
but I am a Christian. I know better.
PS: My lovely wife just, while laughing with a really good laugh, informed me that it was good that I inserted the “it” in “Now we are going to get it good and hard.”
I think I’ll fetch me “anotherer” drink. Feeling playfull.
PPS: No, I did not vote McCain either.
There, fixed it for ya, shuuug!
Sorry I missed the whole ordeal. I went out with some friends of mine tonight. Can you believe that Matt couldn’t twitter 5 women who were wanting to be twitterd tonight?

Squawk: I HOPE YOU TAPED IT! I HOPE YOU TAPED IT!!
Nah seeing Benzion once is enough. No really, once is enough. I checked the rule books. Yup. Once is enough.
Bah give everyone four years to see all the hope and change Obama is bringing…mark my words if he is as bad as everyone thinks people will be flocking to the polls to vote for the Republicans next time.
I’m done here for the night; thanks to all for tuning in and joining us on LST.
Hunker down.
So….Jared Woodfill has officially squandered the GOP’s tenure in Harris County government. Will we be receiving his long overdue resignation tomorrow?
Uh, wait a minute, didn’t you promise the opposite of that the last two years? He didn’t waste two minutes before making excuses!
