The waning days of presidencies can be famous (or in Bill Clinton’s case, infamous) for the list or criminals set free by the Chief Executive on his way out the door. Though our current President has been more sparing in his use of this absolute power than most, he has reportedly pardoned 14 people and commuted the sentences of two others. So far, Border Patrol Agents Ramos and Compean are not on the list.
Those pardoned include persons convicted of crimes such as tax evasion, bank embezzlement, drug dealing, and violaition of conservation and bald eagle protection laws.
There was some hope that Bush would commute the sentences of Ramos and Compean, even if he declined to pardon them, and release them from prison as they pursued their appeals of federal felony charges. Hope is not lost, though, as these are likely not to be the last pardons granted by the President - he has almost a month left to yet make the agents objects of his beneficence.

He won’t do it. His friendship with Johnny Sutton comes before everything. If he does anything for them, it might be construed as admitting Sutton is a no good DELETED.
Dang Dammit! Rick you beat me by 3 minutes, I just sat down and found the link on Drudge! Why am I NOT surprised!
BTW, Who is RickG? Has he posted before?
SuperDave yes, RickG posts here frequently. You must have missed him. I posted the link on open comments two minutes before Rick, so that makes me first, but not a headliner! hehe

If you had had that second G&T, like I did, your reflexes would have been quicker and you would have won.

That means you must have been on your third G&T.
Rick it would never be g. ugh. pine needles taste. ewww. I would have been faster if Jose had been my friend tonight!
Seriously Rick, do you think there is any chance Bush will pardon them?
And He might think that Ramos and Compean are right where they should be.
#5 RickG
I don’t do Gin but the two Buds should have been enough. ;=)
William just to let you know, and not that it matters one whit…….. that’s the last post I will ever read from you.
I’m afraid that since Mr. Bush was in with the former Presidente of Mexico Vicente Fox………………. And that before 911 He was ready to jump on some kind of gift to Mexico. . Then after 911 with all the security stuff and the selling of our freedom, in part, for the finer points of the ‘Patriot Act’; the border was left WIDE open.
I think it unlikely that the guys will get out
. The deal has already been made. The FIX is in!!
Bush & Sutton are buds so no pardon…
A doggone shame.
The list reads like a bunch of two-bit criminals. He can pardon them but people like Ramos and Campaen and Scooter Libby won’t get a first look let along a second. Two much politics involved and not enough good legal work done.
I’m extremely skeptical myself for a pardon or jail release for Ramos and Compean.

Shame on President Bush for not pardoning the two BP agents or at least commuting their sentences. Johnny Sutton is the reason - in other words he doesn’t want Johnny Sutton to look as though his prosecutorial skills were not up to par.
It ain’t over yet.
And there’s always Obama, Democrats have looked favorably on Ramos and Compean.
I have to explain myself to my friends many times however I will say it here and now.
I voted, no I campaigned for, beat the bushes for and walked to get W elected
And I am very sorry for the performance that W put forth in his lame duck term
El Presidente Boosh will not pardon Ramos
El Jeffe Jorge shall not pardon Compean
Jorge Boosh does not understand or represent his people
Boosh has destroyed the GOP, and he will refuse to do what is right
This is getting a bit over the top people. I certainly believe that R&C’s sentences ought to be commuted but they ARE guilty of a crime, and if Bush doesn’t pardon them, he’s not Satan Incarnate.
jimb says
Whew! Good thing this is on a thread from a prior day!
How about a Thanksgiving pardon/commute for Ramos+Compean W. ?
As you know Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean sit in prison for defending our borders despite questionable prosecutor charges at best.
Every thanksgiving, the president pardons people and he has done the same this week.
Now, the president has said he will not pardon them, but there is no reason that he shouldn’t commute their sentences.
So, if you have some time; please send the white house an email: comments@whitehouse.gov, or give them a call 202-456-1414 and let them know that this is the very least that the president can do for these two men who chose to protect the United States.
I emailed my senators and reps….as I have before. Unfortunatialy, I received the same results…..non/nil/’I'll take your views under consideration” and other such non-responsive answers as to their actions. What a bunch of whimps!
jimb: go do their job, then tell me they are guily of a crime. I’d give them an accomodation, not a jail sentence. But, maybe that’s just me.
