Boy did that video bring back teenage memories. Has any memeber of the former Led Zepplin, besides Bonham, dine anything lasting since te band? Plant’s solo career didn’t last too long. Page’s was even shorter. John Paul Jones I think did a lot of fill ins for other bands. Seems like it’s only when they’re together that they do memorable stuff.
for some readon, this forum rejects every other post i put up, even when thre’s no veiled cussing!
Anyway, if you come see these guys Saturday at the HoB, come say hey to me at the lighting booth… you can’t miss me- they call me Tumbleweed… (I’m not with them, I have a house gig there)
the dude who played drums on that Page/Plant thing passed away this week-
Word of advise: If anyone gets an offer to drum for Page and Plant together, say NO!!!
From Wikipedia:
Benji LeFevre (who had replaced Richard Cole as Led Zeppelin’s tour manager) and John Paul Jones found him dead the next morning. Bonham was 32 years old.
From Al’s article link:
Drummer Michael Lee passed away yesterday morning (Monday, November 24). Lee, best known for his work with ROBERT PLANT, LENNY KRAVITZ, THIN LIZZY, THE CULT and THE QUIREBOYS, was just 39 years old.
You wanna see weird, look at the history of keyboard players for the Grateful Dead:
March 8, 1973: Ron “Pig Pigpen” McKernan, keyboardist and vocalist with the Grateful Dead, dies of liver failure.
July 23, 1980: Keith Godchaux, former keyboardist for the Grateful Dead, dies of injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident.
July 26, 1990: Brent Mydland, keyboardist with the Grateful Dead, dies of a drug overdose.
June 2, 2006: Suffering from depression, Vince Welnick - who served as the Grateful Dead’s keyboardist from 1990 to 1995 - takes his life. He is the fourth of the band’s five keyboardists who has died.
I am very disappointed in your ignorance of the continued music from Led Zeppelin. Plant continues to release albums every three years or so, and they get better every time. Jimmy Page and Robert Plant got back together in 1994, which is where the video starting this post comes from, and they also relased a new studio album with all new songs around 1998. Jimmy Page toured with the Black Crowes in 2000 and released a live album with them featuring mostly Led Zeppelin songs… along with some old blues numbers as well.
Next time you see talk to me, ask me about all the work they’ve done both seperately and together since 1990. The original band broke up in 1981 after Bonham’s death. There are many bands people think just went away when in fact they still release new music regularly. FM radio does not play it, and neither does MTV or VH1. You’ve allowed the media to shape your understanding of where Rock N Roll is today. *Smack*!!!
LOL. Smacked I’ve been. I went and bought Now and Zen and Jimmy Pag’s solo album released about that time. I got tierd of the quickly and never followed their careers thereafter. So, ignorant I’ve been. Led Zep was my all time favorite band during my high school years (the main reason I bought Plant and Page’s solo works) I just didn’t follow them afterwards.
Jimmy with the Black Crows video from Big Jolly was good music, jammin’ keyboardist (hopefully NOT to take the road of Grateful Dead keyboardists, that IS spooky), Satisfaction Guarantees from The Firm (since hamous mentioned them, I do remember that name now and Jimmy Page being part of it; but I remember not being terribly impressed with them), Jimmy’s onplugged-style playing on Midnight Moonlight (even using the bow which Jimmy didn’t start but made famous), the Krauss/Plant duet, though there’s some good stuff in there, they just don’t do it for me the was Led Zep did. Not even close. Mind you where I’m coming from. Although I liked Zeppelin, I always looked forward to The Loop “Getting the Led Out”, I was never a Blues fan. Big Jolly’s previous post on Seasick’s “Clip My Wing” was really good. I liked that; but I’ve never been into the Blues. It puts me to sleep.
So what was the “magic” of the original band that did tit for me? Creativity? The bow thing at that time was very fresh. To repeat it does nothing for me. Neither playing the guitar with an empty beer bottle on one hand. The wide variety of Led Zeppelin song styles invoked interest in me as well. But that “magic” to me has never been rekindled. Take the original video post. That song, Thank You, flows seemlessly. It has energy as well as calmness. It invokes imagination in me. It makes me think of my past, people I love, etc. Both the music and lyrics in that song bring this out in me. No other musical accomplishment posted here comes even close in doing that for me.
Oh well, probably just me. I’ll just take my smacks and like them.
Aretha sings Willie.
Uh, may I cut in…..?
Knopfler can swing, too.
Having been accused of playing too much “old music” by Smacktle,
here’s a swinging tune by some Rejects from Oklahoma,
just for him.
He’s been gone almost a year now. This song remains one of my favorites. Rest easy Dan.

Whew. Darren10 has been, rightfully, smacked!
One of my faves:
And there was this band.
Plant and Krause singing Prine.

Will I ever again? Heaven Knows.
I would agree that the various solo careers and other bands never came close to the original. Still some good music, though.
Hamous iterated what I was going to say.

Cary;
What was that instrument you told me about? The Hochtie Cootchie, Hoggi Yogi, or something like that?
